I’ve tried the pierogi, the breaded pork, among other things multiple times….the friendly owner always delivers. Cute, quaint, little restaurant I found out about because of the television program, Check, Please! Just like the panel of reviewers, I love this place. Check it out!

It was closed! Went for dinner at 6pm. On May 5 and it was closed, looked like not open for weeks? A neighbor of place was near by, so I asked about it. He said it's been closed for months! And their website says nothing about closure. We called too and had to leave VM. No return call... Very odd.

The food and service were wonderful!

My family of 8 (6adults/2children) went there for lunch today for the first time. The gentleman behind the counter started clearing a large table off for us. He did it haphazardly, and never finished. My husband completed it. There were dirty dishes on other tables as well. We waited for 20 minutes while he hung around the counter, looking at his phone and drinking something. When my daughter went up to ask him if we could order, he mumbled yes, but never gave her the menus. He just kept staring at her. She smelled alcohol on his breath. We all noticed that he was slurring his words and she saw that he was drinking a White Claw. He was unsteady and inebriated. We left immediately. So disappointed, as we had read great reviews and were eager to try the food. We won’t be going back.

Delicious Polish food and friendly service. I got the Hungarian goulash stuffed pancake. The atmosphere was lovely. It was 20 degrees out and I felt like I was in an Alpine lodge!

We ate at this restaurant for the first time a year ago. We have been P. Agnieszka's clients since then. Last Sunday, after a long absence, we stopped by for lunch. As always, I ordered the same: meatballs in the set and my husband - mushroom soup and cabbage rolls with buckwheat, mushrooms and mushroom sauce - It was fantastic !!!! I really recommend this restaurant: fresh and very tasty food, large portions, lots of choice and a very nice atmosphere.

The authentic Polish food there has always been delicious and plentiful! We have been going there for decades.

I read about it 2 months ago and went to try the pork with mushroom sauce today; that was an excellent dish. Perfectly seasoned, and the flavour was amazing and went well with the salad. I bought a takeaway of breaded pork medallion and mash and salad, and that was greatly appreciated at home. Highly recommended if you enjoy wholesome food. Good service. I went on a Sat just as it was turning 12 pm, and didn't need to book a table as it was quiet, but when I went back to collect my takeaway, at around 13:45, it was very busy and nearly all tables were occupied.

Absolutely spectacular food. Everything was delicious. When asked, the owner/server offered enlightened recommendations. Food was delivered aesthetically and with outstanding timing (not too quickly, not too slowly). Generous portions. Comfortable tables, chairs, and lighting. Warm ambiance. Free parking just outside the door.

I ate here with a group of friends! The interior décor was cozy and it was immediately apparent that the restaurant was a "mom n pop" business. The server barely spoke English so I knew we were about to eat some authentic Polish food! Service was slow and our orders came randomly to the table. By the time the last of us got our food some of us had been done for a good 10 minutes. We all ended up just sharing our food instead of eating our own orders. The food was something one rarely experiences in a lifetime! Anything off the menu will be sure to leave you stuffed and satisfied! My recommendation is to get an order of meat perogies for the table and then the Silesian dumplings and the veal cutlet. The dumplings had an insane pillowy texture that left me stunned for a moment since I never believed such a light texture to be possible. I can not say it enough, these dumplings almost left me insane with how fluffy and tasty they were! These dumplings are so much better than any other dumpling I've tried from any other cuisine! The veal cutlet also destroyed any belief I had that Italian veal dishes could not be topped. My only regret is that I was not able to thank the chef for the food personally. Do yourself a favor, go to Smak-Tak! It will be a euphoric experience for the pallet that will leave you wishing you could live next to the restaurant. They allow you to bring your own wine so make sure to bring something that will compliment the rich flavors.

I love Polish food- I lived in Poland most of my life and started feeling homesick. And I wanted my partner to try some good Polish food. It was good, he really enjoyed his meal but my food did not seem to taste as good as what I grew up on- it might be the American ingredients or me not being accustomed to someone else makes.

Horrible cole slaw, bland cabbage rolls nothing special about daily special kapusta pierogies, no sour cream or apple sauce offered, sullen waitress ... I'm Polish and foundnothing to praise here except that it was clean ... we will never ever return or recommend it. Sorry.

Just yum. Go. Have dumpling, perogi and whatever. All really tasty. Pretty simple place so don't be expecting 5 star service but the food is really good

Decent food but don't get the breaded chicken breast meal. Lacked flavor and was too chewy. Also the manager/waiter had a terrible attitude. I asked if he served beer and got nothing but attitude from him. Never going there again.

Just in again today, this woman has got some serious taste buds, never had to season my food here. The pork fillet with mushroom sauce is to die for. This is well above and beyond most food I have eaten in many pubs and restaurants. This deserves to be in the top 10 in Swindon, massive portions and exceptional quality. At £15 there is enough food for 2 people, most take some home as too much to eat in one sitting. Seriously advise everyone to make the initial visit, it won’t be your last. Please try the shredded carrot and cream salad, best carrot dish I’ve ever had, oh can’t forget the mushroom soup, the flavour, well again it’s the best I’ve ever had.

Good Polish food at nice prices. It is delicious! Update: Why are they closed during supposedly open hours? Maps says open, sign on door says open...but it was locked and dark. 3 times in a row!

The food looked amazing, however I'm not sure what was worse, the host's constant blowing his nose without washing his hands, or the cold bland food. I will not be back.

The cafe was open and clean with a open kitchen. Prices where great and portions huge. Also had a latte which me and my wife enjoyed as we like our coffee. My wife had Bigos and I had roast potatoes alongside a salad and chicken breast. I seen it prepared in front of me. All for the price of £13 for my meal. Cant argue I need to go back with family and taste more!

Hands down best tasting polish restaurant in Chicago right now!

Amazing food, 1st time being there. After driving by for several years. Last night I decided to check it out. Generously large portions. I had ground veal with mushrooms. It came with coleslaw and dill cucumber in sour cream. My girlfriend had the stuffed cabbage rolls which came with the same sides as mine. Very tasty simple food that's filling. Also we took cheese blintzes to go had them for breakfast today they were delicious 😋🤤

Update: 4.1 stars...potatoes were a bit dry and no gravy. Ground veal was a bit bland. Heavy, filling and tasty Polish food. Reasonably priced. Soups are huge. Great polish rye on table. Cutlets are plate sized. Highly recommend this place for comfort food. Borchst soup is ok, but others better. Bathroom plain but clean. Probably handicapped accessible, entry threshold is about 3"...byob. Dinner for two was $36 w/tip.

Huge portions of tasty food. We popped in for an early dinner on Saturday evening and didn't leave disappointed or hungry. The 2 waitresses were friendly and helpful which contributed to our relaxed meal. The only slight downside was that we waited quite a while for our food but this was only because everything was freshly prepared and cooked from scratch. We could see our dinner being prepared and cooked as the restaurant has an open kitchen (which always fills me with a little more confidence in the hygiene of a place). The prices were very reasonable given the portion sizes (we had alreadystartedeatingin the pictures). We will be back!

Fanciest place? No. Best Bigos? YES! Everything we ordered was outstanding! How have I missed this place when eating Polish in this town?

We waited over 3 hours for our takeaway just to find out that even though our order was confirmed , no one bother to actually prepare it for us! We find out after calling the restaurant that they are having two private parties and they were to busy to let us know that there is an significant delay in our order. 30 minutes later from complaining we received our order that was missing 30% of the ordered meal! It was cold, smelled old and looked disgusting. I called the restaurant immediately and asked for the refund but Clearly the owner wanted to get rid of the leftovers from someone else’s table for the horrendous price of £45!! The restaurant added 10% of the tip; you wanted or not, you have to pay!! I took pictures of the old and moulded fries and old and cold potato dumplings that was green inside, the goulash was sour (goulash shouldn’t be sour unless is dodgy!) After sending images to the owner I find out that this is normal that the meal stem up like this when it’s freshly cooked!! I never received a freshly cooked takeaway meal that would be stone cold!! I do not recommend this place. Clearly the owner is greedy and does not follow the safety food standards by selling leftovers from the table.

I was craving a taste of the food I grew up with and so glad we stumbled upon Smak-Tak. Soups were hearty and filling. Entrees were fresh, filling, and cooked to perfection.

My favorite place in Chicagoland. Soups & main dishes are amazing! Cheese-filled Silesian dumplings are out-of-this world when on the menu. One meal is like two and pricing is affordable and realistic. Red Borsch is spectacular! Service is wonderful

This little joint is probably the best polish food in Chicago. For sure the best on the NW side. Nothing here disappoints. If there was anything to complain about...it would be in a lager space with more wait-staff.

Nice decor. Nice people. Food was mediocre at best. It basically tasted as if the food was pre-cooked at heated up. I had kielbasa with side dishes. Very dried out and tasteless. The borscht soup was just sugary beet water. I didn't like any of the meal. They were not busy either. That shows you something. If you want really delicious Polish cuisine there are much better options.

Our first time there. Service was great. Restaurant was super clean and they sanitized and washed tables quickly after someone left. Food was very authentic and delicious. I didn't take any photos but was well laid out food and plentiful. We will try again next time visiting for sure.

The peirogi aren't my grandfather's but really great. Can't give a higher recommendation then I'm working my way through the menu. 6 orders, 4 entrees, some have to be repeated!

This place is so good! I wanted to try some authentic Polish foods (for the first time), and this was on the must-try list for Polish food in Chicago. It was a winner for sure. I’m from Louisiana, so I’d not been exposed to this type of restaurant before. I had the chicken cutlet with mashed potatoes and cabbage salad. It was to die for! The chicken was the most moist piece of chicken (cooked any way) that I’ve ever had in my life. It was so moist that I reheated it in the microwave the next morning in a microwave for a quick breakfast and it was still moister than all the other chicken I’ve eaten that was freshly done. I wish I knew how they do that! The cabbage salad was perfect, too. It was like cabbage with a vinaigrette on it. Would totally eat that again. For a southern palate, the potatoes could have used some cream and seasoning, but they were definitely freshly made. I also ordered the mushroom soup, and I have been craving it ever since! It was the only broth-based mushroom soup I’ve ever had and it was amazing! I did add a little salt, but on Cajun, so I’m not surprised I needed that. It was brothy and just the right blend of earthy and seasoned. My husband ordered a Polish sausage dish, which came with two versions of sauerkraut (hot and cold—has no idea that both even existed!) and some beets. Despite miserable experiences in my past with non-natively made versions of those, all three turned out to be pretty dang good. I would even seek out the cold sauerkraut again or attempt making it. The polish sausage he had was phenomenal. I normally can’t even eat most types of sausage, but this was totally different. So, so good! If I’m ever back in Chicago, I will definitely return to Smak!

This was my late father's favorite polish restaurant. We would take him there every year on his birthday. If you want to eat wonderful authentic polish food on the north side of chicago then this is the spot.

Here's the place to get a plate of authentic Polish fare. We had the fried pork cutlet and chicken gizzards. I also ordered Borscht and potato pancakes. The borscht was so good! The main dishes came with two salads, one being a wonderful cucumber salad and the other a mixed vegetable salad. The main dishes also are accompanied by mashed potatoes and fresh bread. Give this place a try. I loved the service and of course I loved the food!

So glad we found this hidden gem by chance! The food was so delicious and the atmosphere so unassuming, it's no wonder they filmed Check Please! here. We ordered the cabbage rolls and the breaded pork cutlet. The portions were incredibly generous, the sides were equally delicious and our server was kind. We had a great time and will be back for the famous pierogis!

Friendly service and great Polish specialties in a cozy place that looks like a little mountain cabin. I'm a big fan of the bigos here, and the mushroom soup, and the huge cutlet, and the delicious Polish bread. And the goulash. Really nice place to eat really good food.

We celebrated a wedding and a birthday party at U Agnieszki for a hundred guests. The hall was decorated beautifully for the occasion, which was a lovely surprise as we did not expect the restaurant to organise this. Pani Agnieszka said that our guests would not go hungry. How right she was. The portions of freshly cooked delicious food were mountainous. I would recommend the chicken breast stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. Yummy! The staff were friendly and efficient. Prices very competitive. The restaurant is also opened for lunches. I would book this restaurant again for a party.
