What a lovely 😍 pub!! Fabulous food, excellent service and the staff, plus the landlord were attentive and friendly. I had the mussels, my husband had the catch of the day. Both dishes were so lovely, we nearly licked our plates clean!! Would definitely eat there again, a much better menu than the Red River Inn up the road. Good value for money.

Superb ribeye steak, staff are fantastic, possibly the most helpful I've ever encountered. (Chris went above and beyond). Well worth a visit.

Our family of four went for Sunday tea at 6.30pm. Roast beef and pork or Gammon still being served. We each had something different: Roast pork, gammon, dressed crab, and beef burger with chips. All dishes were very, very good and generous in portion. Drinks too were very good. If you like darker ale, the St. Austell 'Hicks' is great. You pay the going rate, but it's high quality and plenty of it. I would definitely recommend the Turnpike Inn. 😉👌🏼

Outstanding Food! I wasn't quick enough to take pictures of our food and we have left nothing on our plates. I looked for a nice place to take the family for dinner while on holiday, and so lucky we have found this gem. Quick to book a table and been greeted super friendly by the lovely waiter. The atmosphere was magic. The menu had plenty to chose from but not too much, kids menu options also. Once we've orderd it didn't take long for all of our food to arrive, 7 people, 8 dishes and it all looked perfect. We had the catch of the day, a Greek salad, the pork belly, a burger, some artisan bread and more the kids loved the food, us adults were amazed by how good the food was. Honestly an absolute highlight of the holidays this year. Will definitely come back when we're down Cornwall next time and super affordable aswell. I would pick this place out of all restaurants we've ate ever down there so If you're up for a nice meal with or without kids this is the place to go. Thanks again to the staff and the kitchen for making our evening so delightful.

As a family we came here for dinner last night, whilst visiting Cornwall for a week, we returned again this evening for dinner. The food was really nice, wholesome pub food, couldn’t fault it either time. On top of lovely food, the staff were lovely, very accommodating to us very quick service and they remembered us by name the next evening when we returned. The atmosphere is one of a lovely family pub, music was good but also at a volume we could here the songs but they didn’t interrupt the conversation, the kids menu is great with a good range. All in all I wish I could take it home and make it my local! We will probably be back before we leave. Great work to all the staff, very well run pub

Gorgeous pub with lovely staff, particularly the gentleman who went out of his way to make us comfortable. Lovely, tasty food, with the carrot and sweet potato soup being the nicest soup I’ve ever had! Will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Lovely evening spent here the staff were friendly and attentive and the menu had a good selection of dishes. The portions were very large and everyone's food was excellent. Everywhere was clean as well as being a open and airy atmosphere. Would recommend this pub to anyone for a evening out.

We phoned at 8.45 on a Sunday Night for food as our friends had recommended the food We were not let down even though they stopped serving food at 9pm Sunday we were made very welcome. The food was superb the atmosphere was great I have no hesitation in recommending this pub

Hands down - one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve eaten in some time. Host is a lovely bloke who made us feel very welcome. Great beer selection, and the Sunday carvery was just superb. Hats off to the chef! Recommend highly!

A fabulous roast dinner from our holiday 'local' with excellent service

We had dinner at the Turnpike Inn twice during our holiday. The food and service were excellent. In particular, we loved the Thai style curry (both the seafood and vegetarian versions) as well as the mussels.

Nice pub close to home. Lovely beer garden.

Just visited and had a superb Sunday Lunch at the The Turnpike Inn on Sunday 23rd June 2024, a sitting for four, excellent choice of meats, Beef, Gammon and Turkey all very high quality along with a delicious selection of vegetables and condiments to match. Top class service from the front of House and the whole team. We wholeheartedly considered the meal to be excellent value for money considering the quality of the ingredients which is certainly evident with the skill of the Kitchen Team and associated front of house service, definitely a class above. Ambience is excellent. Definitely deserves the credit. Do try you if you would like to treat yourself to a first class meal you will not be disappointed. Just please leave room for us on our return which will be very soon.

Absolutely fantastic meal! The vegetarian wellington was delicious! Lovely to see a pub serving multiple vegetarian options that aren't just nut roasts! And served with a excellent array of sides. The carvery had multiple meat options and generous portions. The service was great with very attentive and friendly staff. The decor inside was modern with traditional features while being lovely and bright inside. A wonderful dog friendly pub ensuring the dogs are as looked after as the owners! Would highly recommend.

Excellent all round experience. Best ever carvery meal (Sunday lunch) I’ve ever eaten. Perfectly coked meats (beef, turkey and ham), great Yorkshire puddings and good, fresh selection of vegetables. Good sevice, drinks orders taken and delivered to the table. Not the cheapest but well worth the money (£17.95 per person) and highly recommended.

Popped in here for a drink earlier in the week, thought we would return for a meal on the last night of our holiday. Food was really lovely, service was excellent. We will definitely return on our holiday next year.

My wife had her 66th birthday today and we stopped off at opening time and had the small fish and chips as I only have a third of my stomach and my wife had ham,egg and chips both meals were absolutely brilliant, lovely and fresh, nice and hot, brilliant service and would definitely recommend the Turnpike

We have been twice now for Sunday dinner and the food has been excellent. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere great. If you have children there is also a garden at the back and outdoor seating at the front if you just want to pop in for a drink. I would highly recommend it and will be trying out the weekly menu soon.

Comfortably the best carvery we've had in Cornwall. Lovely meat, loads of tasty veg choices, excellent roasties. The only thing that could possibly be improved is the stuffing, but that's being picky. Friendly, attentive and quick service. Not the cheapest but well worth it!

Booked for Sunday lunch. Table in "the conservatory", which is really a thin porch on the front! No atmosphere! Indoors looked lovely though! Very friendly, helpful staff. Beef tough as old boot! Turkey lovely! Veg very nice! £18.50 pp. Not sure it was worth it!!

Called in on the off chance for Sunday Roast. Very welcoming and friendly. Plated roast, lots of choice. Cooked to perfection. Not the cheapest we had eaten but lovely.

We're so glad we stopped off here. The landlord gives particularly attentive service and there is a nice comfortable feel to the pub. We'll definitely be using the Turnpike whenever we're in the area

Amazing pub. Landlord and lady are so welcoming and friendly. As are all the staff, nothing is to much trouble. The sunday roasts, are so so good, beef was cooked beautifully and there is so many vegetables to choose from, all cooked perfectly and the Yorkshire puddings are enormous and so delicious. Great selection of meats and the chef cuts the meat beautifully. We have been there several times now for Sunday lunch and will continue to go to this amazing and friendly pub. Marie

Visited yesterday for Sunday lunch having not been for probably 18 months,the pub has been refurbished and is looking lovely.however we could not believe the hike in prices for a carvery and only one size to choose from £17:95 , for that price you would expect something spectacular it certainly wasn’t!!

Amazing food, amazing service. We had the carvery and I was pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian options available. I had the Beet Wellington, it was divine. Love a nut roast but this was a fabulous alternative than the normal veggie offering. We will be back. Can't recommend highly enough.

When here for a Sunday Carvery at 2pm. The best roast I have ever had and the puddings were to die for, amazing service and just all around brilliant. Had a chat with the chef as he cooked some of the vegetables so deliciously that I actually changed my mind on some previous vegetables I disliked and now love them. You gotta try this place.

We came here as a last minute decision to have Sunday lunch together, as we were in the area. It was definitely one of the best carvery dinners I have ever had. As I don’t eat meat, I had the choice of not one but two interesting veggie options, I chose the cheese and potato pie which was tasty. But the star of the meal was the vegetates accompanying the main item - 4 choices and all absolutely delicious and cooked In interesting ways. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding was heavenly too, and I was treated to a generous portion of veggie gravy. Ambience was great, staff very attentive and drinks beautifully cold. Friend had roast beef which looked beautiful. Highly recommend!

Really enjoyable meal. So good, we came back for a meal on the last night of our holiday! Great food, lovely drinks and the team working in the pub are incredibly warm and friendly. A proper pub with outstanding food.

We’ve eaten at The Turnpike before but this was our first Sunday Lunch. There’s good and then there’s this! Presentation? Excellent. Quality of the food? Excellent. Taste? Excellent. Staff? Excellent. No apologies for overusing the word EXCELLENT! This is far above the standard Sunday roast with standard veg. A whole host of unexpected deliciousness! And then we were talked into a pudding, a rather delicious cheesecake.. In case you’re not sure, this is excellent!

Went to Cornwall for a little couples break to celebrate our 8th anniversary. After doing some google research, we came across this place. It did not disappoint. Food was absolutely incredible. The hand battered fish was the best fish I have ever tasted in my life! And if you’re a craft beer drinker, get a big Wednesday in you! Staff are so so lovely, couldn’t do any more for you! I would highly recommend going. The food, the atmosphere was on point. It’s a cosy beautifully layed out pub and if I lived closer than wales this would 100% be our local. I just wished you was open for food again before we left, we would have come back for more fish and chips :) Thank you for the beer the second night. It really did go down an absolute treat! Until the next time!

I've reviewed Turnpike before, but I feel compelled to do so again!! My mum and I visited on Thursday evening with our two dogs - we visit every time we're on holiday, but this time was exceptional. The food was the nicest we have ever had at Turnpike (it is always lovely, but this truly topped previous meals) - generous portions, and clearly homemade. The lady and man working were really nice - very polite, efficient, and genuinely interested in making conversation with all customers. I would definitely recommend eating here if you get chance - if I could give our experience ten stars, I would!! We're already looking forward to returning in November.

My wife and I together with our family went to the Turnpike for a carvery on Mother's Day. The food was generous and extremely well cooked and the entire family thoroughly enjoyed the meal. That, coupled with the kindness and efficiency of the staff, made the day a real treat and I highly recommend it.

Had a Carvery here on Sunday and have to say it was one of the best I had in a long time. The welcome and service were good and it had a nice atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back to try the alacart menu. If I have a slight criticism, the tables are I bit too close to each other, but this won't stop me trying here again after so many years away.

Popped in for lunch with the dog, ordered burgers, my partners was well done, which is what he asked for but service was so slow & not busy, my burger was pink inside/ raw, it was sent back, waited an age for mine to return, my partner had ate his by the time it was returned, staff were pleasant enough & apologised & said my drink would be free... J20 a free J20..insult, last time I ate there the beef on the carvery was tough as old boots..should have learn't from the last visit..

We used to visit regularly before it was recently refurbished so this evening was an impromptu visit. The staff still very friendly and attentive. The menu has significantly changed and for the better I understand new chefs have been recruited. The food quality was very good and ample portions, far superior from previous visits. Dog friendly environment which is a big plus and a very welcoming wood burner adds to the ambience. We have booked for the Sunday carvery this weekend. Highly recommend.

As soon as you walk in, it’s a warm welcome from all the staff. The atmosphere is second to none. They have a wide selection of beers/spirits and the food is incredible. Dog friendly too which is a bonus. Highly recommend.

Eating out at the Turnpike Inn was recommended by friends and we weren't disappointed. This was the best meal we have had for a long time - friendly, helpful staff, very comfortable seating and excellent food. Thoroughly recommended.

3 of us went for lunch and the food was lovely. I had the pork belly which was a proper treat, really tender and tasty.. Beautiful pub with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Looks like it has a nice beer garden out the back so looking forward to returning when the weather warms up.

Went to turnpike today it was short notice but the land lady and her husband was brill the food excellent the service brill the staff fantastic highly recommend

The restaurant was busy with a large group which turned out to be bad news as the service was slow. The menu is a generic pub grub menu with little fresh or original food offered. Worryingly, the burger ordered arrived cold and raw inside having probably cooked from frozen. We sent it back to the kitchen and it was returned in a better, cooked state but without much of an apology. There are better places out there to eat, avoid this one.

Went today for a family lunch, the carvery was superb, unfortunately they was out of Lamb and Beef so ended up having pork, it was delicious, service was good and we all enjoyed it, a special mention to Chris, who I believe is new to The Turnpike, he was fantastic, and made our lunch even more special, thank you Chris and thank you Turnpike 5 star.

Had Christmas lunch here with my family. First time we've ever eaten out Christmas Day and they made it a wonderful experience. Well worth the money with a drink on arrival, a starter, our main course, a pre dessert then our main dessert followed by a hot drink and mince pies. All the staff were lovely and waited on everyones needs. The food was fantastic. Best Turkey I've probably ever had. The table was laid out lovely as well. I've been before and the food was always great. Thank you for making our day feel like a family day at home

I run a dog rescue group here in Cornwall and today we had a meet up with adopters and their rescue dogs. Phil and Brigette and the barman Jamie went above and beyond to make our visit extra special. Nothing was too much trouble and they even came and petted the dogs. Wonderful people and great food and most important to me great animal lovers.

AVOID!! Horrible food, overcooked vegetables and raw meat. Over priced and the landlady is so rude and the staff were miserable! Will never go there again.

Just returned from a totally delicious Sunday lunch carvery. The pub is improved on what is was before, and the service was superb, friendly and attentive. The carvery was fabulous, lamb that melted in your mouth, and beef slightly pink and oh so tender. Good selection of vegetables and a really delicious gravy. £16 for one course, slightly steep in our carvery experience but the whole visit justified the higher price in the end. I hope it does really well, it deserves to.

I attended with family following a tour of the Christmas lights. We wanted to arrive 30 minutes after the kitchen closed which the pub were happy to accomodate. Staff were very friendly and the food extrememly tasty. Portions were a more than adequate size. We were all very impressed. Fantastic pub grub. We will be back.

I've not been to this pub for years but visited today for lunch with my parents. We had a delicious roast, served by friendly, attentive staff in very pleasant surroundings. Will definitely return again soon as we were very impressed.

Had fish chips &peas me & my partner the fish was no bigger than my class case at £17.50lwould of expected a decent piece of fish absolute rip off won't be there again

Amazing service, Such lovely staff, can't fault the attentive skills with offering condiments prior to food being delivered. 2 Star's as the minced Aberdeen Angus burger was under cooked and rare, we both did mention this to both staff and finally on giving the bill we reminded the server, we were told because we left the raw meat behind and ate the chips no offer for under cooked food would be taken into account. Wouldn't recommend eating here, only recommend drinks.

After popping in the other day for lunch and being very impressed with the food, service and new refurbishment, I thought I'd return with my husband to try an evening meal. We were not disappointed! The home cooked food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and polite. The new decor was very warm and inviting. It was excellent value for money and we will be returning with the family soon to try the Sunday carvery. I would definitely recommend!! Well done for turning this pub into a local gem!!

Had a lovely meal here today. Staff were so friendly to both us and our two dogs. We arrived just before the end of the lunch service and they were still willing to serve us! We were so lucky as the food was lovely!

Meal booked for 5.30 - pub busy with lots of locals enjoying the sun. Excellent steak and chips ( don't get the salad leaves though ). My wife's Scampi was excellent as well followed by a shared sticky toffee pudding to die for - the best ever !! Great waitress service. Outstanding

Wonderfully friendly staff, and beautifully presented yummy food. The outside really doesn't do this place justice. The warm atmosphere inside and family friendly/dog friendly dining made for the perfect evening for our family gathering. All the staff; bar, waiting and kitchen took time to come and greet us and have a chat. Even the lovely chef came out to ask our opinions on his specials, which were delicious and well priced. My 6 year old has now decided she wants to work for them and my one year old spent half the evening pottering about getting to know some of the locals. Wonderful evening had by all.

Had lunch here on the way back from St Michael's Mount. The squid starter was tender and tasty with a light batter. Mussels in a cider and leek sauce were delicious and fresh. Friendly service and reasonable prices.
