Unfortunately, our visit to the Duke's Head for an afternoon tea experience wasn't quite what we were hoping for. On arrival, we were greeted by a sign asking to "wait to be seated" and wait we did for 15 mins before a member of the restaurant staff appeared. This would have been understandable had there been a busy service in progress, but there were fewer than 4 other tables occupied. On eventually being shown to a table, by someone anything other than what you could describe as a "Maître D", we were given menus, signalling that it was clear that it was not obvious that we had booked for afternoon tea, which was equally demonstrated by the waiter not being able to find our reservation initially. Our afternoon tea was eventually served to us and for the most part the food was satisfactory, albeit the shortbread sweets were soggy, rather than crisp and the tea had tipped over to the point of stewed. At no point during our service, did anyone check if all was in order or if we required anything, as for practically the duration of our visit there were barely any staff present. Other tables were also left unattended and had to actively seek out staff in order to place their order. At a mid-point during our service, a moderate sized party of guests arrived for their booking and without any tables being previously arranged to accommodate the number of guests, their tables and chairs were very clumsily dragged and thrown around noisily, without any elegance, ruining what little atmosphere that existed in the restaurant. At the close of our service and on the request to settle our bill, again, I had to be asked our booking name, as our entry could not be found. Following a further 15-20 minutes of waiting for the bill to materialise and expecting to be billed as part of the hotel's promotion of 2 for 1 afternoon tea (as booked in advance), this caused further confusion and another 15 mins passed, before we were ushered down towards the main reception area for investigation. At reception, during the course of the conversation, we were either told that our booking couldn't be found or we was given conflicting information. As there was no reference to the promotion on the booking, I was asked if I could supply the booking reference/email, to which I did. However, as the promotion was not listed on the confirmation, this was completely dismissed and we were told that we were being billed for the full amount. In addition, it was insinuated that it was my error, as I was unable to produce any proof or voucher code (of which there was not one, as it was a direct booking on the hotel's website). I explained that all I received was what the hotel had issued me in confirmation of the booking. At this point, we were told that the promotion was in August and the system shouldn't have allowed us to book our selected date, which I didn't feel was our error. Later in the conversation, we were then told that there hadn't been a 2 for 1 promotion since February. Lastly, we were told that it was likely that there was a 20% discount saving, but we didn't receive this either. The whole conversation was awash with arbitrary decisions and ambiguous stories. Consequently, the staff were completely dismissive and were only interested in us paying the full amount, which is what we were forced to do. During all of the above pitiful exchange, we were witness to a couple who were locked out of their accommodation and were left waiting to gain entry and another dining couple were also complaining that they had not received their meals as promised. A member of the restaurant staff who was actually trying to make amends was asking what I assumed to be the duty manager, if he could just bill them for what they had received and provide them with a good-will gesture soft drink, to which he replied, "no, don't say anything to them, I will speak to them, as they need to pay the full price". Sadly, these examples perfectly epitomised that the hotel was not adequately staffed and there was insufficient organisation or customer service. The facial expression and reaction of the assumed duty manager led me to believe that this was not a rare occurrence of events. We have had a number of positive afternoon tea experiences in other establishments that leave you feeling that you had received an attentive service with well presented and consumed refreshments. However, sadly, this experience left only a bitter taste and is not one that will be repeated again. I can only conclude a shocking service and poor attitude from a hotel that given their longstanding presence in the hospitality industry should know a great deal better, especially as what we ended up paying for was definitely not of equal value to what we received.

I recently booked a table for 2 at Turners restaurant at the Dukes Head Hotel. We was greeted at reception and shown by our server into the restaurant which was tastefully decorated for the Christmas season. Our visit was on a Monday evening so the restaurant was pretty quiet which was to be expected. Our waiter Mark was very attentive and made us feel comfortable. The food was brought to us in a well timed and very well presented fashion and tasted delicious. There was nothing to fault. They also have a very good drinks selection which we chose from the varied options for wine. I have lived in Kings Lynn for some years now and have never been to Turners, something I regret not having done before now as it was a very lovely evening. Something I shall do again very soon and will definitely bring other family and friends with me.

Pleasant tasteful décor and tables well spaced out. Nice touch is the pure linen serviettes. Looks like plenty of choice on the menu but they appear to have a supply problem and run out of some of the choices and once its gone its gone. We had the last of the crab which was excellent and very well presented. Service is good and the staff mostly helpful and pleasant. For us the only down side was that the restaurant seems to have a fly problem but then most of the restaurants we went into in King’s Lynn appeared to have the same problem. Reservations are recommended during busy holiday periods especially at weekends.

I'm as turned off as you are by reviewers who tell you all about what THEY were doing at a place ("Night out with the girls", "Dad's 60th birthday", etc.) rather than about the place itself. This entry may read like one of those at first, but it's not. The preamble IS relevant. Bear with me if you can. We had booked a room at the Duke's Head, a hotel in King's Lynn. Looking around for a place to eat, I saw that viamichelin, the website of the celebrated guidebook, recommended the restaurant of that very hotel. What Michelin says is worth quoting at length: "Turners Restaurant uses locally-sourced ingredients to put an inventive spin on traditional British fare (...) A King’s Lynn dining destination of distinction, the Dukes Head brings Norfolk’s plentiful produce to your table with flair. Our talented chefs know exactly where to find the season’s best, working with local suppliers every day to source the freshest and finest ingredients, and, paired with the perfect vintage, they taste even better." At this point, you're probably thinking what I initially thought: this was obviously cooked up by the publicity department of the hotel chain in question (note: "OUR talented chefs...") But something in me said: surely Michelin doesn't do fake write-ups; they may have borrowed a few words of corporate bilge from a PR trainee at Surya Hotels, but a real person, perhaps some heavily accented gastronome, must have gone there. I was wrong. Or rather, I was right the first time. I'm not blaming the fine people at Turner's. They don't pretend to provide anything else than standard pub fare at standard pub prices, or not much more. Our starters were characteristically tasteless - the only departure from your local Wetherspoon was the uncooked noodles that oddly adorned the asparagus and poached egg. My lamb came with the usual potatoes and peas spiced up with BBQ ketchup. The French pinot noir was indifferent, but at £25 a bottle it didn't masquerade as vintage stuff. The service showed the same refreshingly lack of pretension. Smiling behind her facemask, the waitress greeted us with a friendly: "How you guys doing?" Again, we're not blaming Turner's. But we blame Michelin for misleading us into believing that we were in for a special treat. The next night we went to Nando's across the street: it was predictably cheap and cheerful. And the starters did come with uncooked noodles.

We visited here for an evening meal. The food was great, pigeon breast, curried parsnip soup, plaice and fish and chips. However, I found the lounge type seats uncomfortable as I prefer to sit more upright when eating a meal. Pre-dinner drinks were slow to arrive and when I asked the waitress where they were she told me they were short-staffed (they weren't - there were two serving staff on and very few customers) and that they had to "travel" a long way to the bar. A simple acknowledgment and apology that we had been waiting would have been better. The drinks arrived shortly after, followed by the food just a minute later. Whilst courteous, both servers had an annoying habit of asking "have we decided on our starters", "have we finished out meals", "have we chosen our dessert". I would recommend the food but I won't be eating here again because of the above issues.

We had a reservation in the main restaurant but when we saw their was only one table occupied we decided to have the meal in the bar instead which was marginally busier. I had Scallops to begin with which were cooked perfectly, however, the accompanying Bombay potato was a bit bland to my taste. My main of lamb rump was cooked well although I thought quite a small piece of meat for the price. The sour cream mash was OK but nothing special and the char grilled courgette really didn't have any snoky charred flavour at all. The guy who served the wine just put the wine on the table and didn't even remove the screw top, let alone ask me to try it! Probably deserved 3 and a half stars but you can't give that on here!

Whilst pleased that the restaurant was open, we were disappointed that the website did not represent what was on offer. No fine dining napery, restricted menu and a much shortened wine list. Perhaps not surprising in the current situation, but not what we had expected. Having said that much of the meal was excellent. Pigeon breast for starters was spot on although the second dish of scallops with Bombay Potatoes was strange - excellent scallops but the potatoes were far too bland and added nothing to the scallops. Main course rump of lamb was excellent - pink throughout and served with a side of fine green beans as good as any I have had - squeaky, piping hot and dressed in ample peppery butter. Desserts, cheesecake and trifle, we adequate but in no way sparkling.

We could not resist using the last of the 2 for 1 vouchers for Sunday lunch. It was busy and service a tad slow but all the staff were very apologetic and when two of you get three courses of good quality food for just £14.95, there's little to complain about. But I will...the Yorkshire puddings are not good - need more seasoning and I suspect, more defrosting since mine was stone cold but like I said, at that price you have good value. So much so, that we will probably keep coming here at the full price. That's the genius of making irresistible offers - you increase your customer base.

We were a group of 6 who went for Sunday lunch. We were seated in a smaller room opposite the restaurant which lacked ambience. The waiter insisted we ordered all three courses at once - probably so they had time to get desserts out to defrost! There were no water glasses on table, nor were any offered. We were not invited to view the wine list (we may have had wine) but equally, wine glasses were not removed from the table either and were just in the way. There was limited cutlery (for one course only) on the table and no condiments. Food was slow coming out and disappointing in presentation, size and taste. Frozen prawns on iceberg lettuce for prawn cocktail - please! The main course, the roast, when they eventually arrived were all luke warm at best. Broccoli too hard to get a fork into, 2 small roast potatoes with a cold yorkshire pudding on top - although the beef was delicious. We had to ask for apple/horseradish sauce, these were not offered. 5 desserts arrived, but we were waiting for cutlery before the last one arrived - which could have been an Iceland £1 cheesecake - it was small and definitely not homemade. I suspect only the fruit salad was "homemade" but this was uninspiring. We moved to lounge for coffee but after 15 minutes had to find someone to take our order. I am sure if we had left without paying they wouldn't have noticed... for a while. We had a voucher from the local paper so I am guessing they are trying to drum up business for the restaurant but they certainly won't fill their restaurant with this kind of food/service. Disappointing at best.

I normally try and avoid hotel restaurants as I find that they are generally overpriced with average food. Not Turner's restaurant which is located in the Duke's Head Hotel, King's Lynn. The service was very good and the food was some of the best I have ever been served. I started with the smoked trout which was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection, followed by Chicken and Chorizo. The chicken was succulent and the dish very well presented. I can recommend a side of sweet potato chips.

The doorman at the Hotel did not know that Turners restaurant was situated in the hotel, but thankfully we did. Our reservation was lost but there was a spare table. In fact a lot of spare tables for a Friday night. The menu was really interesting and we enjoyed our smoked chicken starter... well presented and very tasty. A bottle of Malbec was also very good and priced reasonably. We should have quit whilst we were ahead and gone to one of the chain restaurants on the square at that point. The cod main was tasteless and unseasoned (perhaps when we enquired about the dish to our waitress and were told “well it’s cod” we should have taken note. The meat in the steak and ale pie was delicious but the pastry was almost inedible and reminiscent of (poor) school dinners. The vegetables were poor and the sauce cold and “set”. When we were asked how the meal was there was no apology when we feedback our concerns. Dessert was another tactical error and we should have ordered the cheesecakes at Iceland. Over sweet and really quite unpleasant ( the apple accompanying the cheesecake was lost in the sweet goo). Oh dear. We won’t be back. A shame as others seem to have had a good experience. When it goes wrong it would be nice if the hotel could just say sorry!

My immediate family and I (a group of seven) decided to treat ourselves to the £70 a head Christmas Day lunch. I am so angry we paid so much money for a second rate lunch that for the first time ever I felt I had to write a review to warn other folk not to make the same mistake. My starter was a mess of green salad leaves upon which was placed clumps of black pudding and about five small rubbery scallops. The beef for my main was good, but the potato Rosti was inedible and like rubber-how on earth it was made this way is a mystery. Others had turkey and said it was too dry.Desert was cheese and biscuits, I don't have a sweet tooth, but this consisted on an assortment of cheap crackers, with some grapes, sticks of celery, a sweaty piece of rubbery cheddar, a passable small piece of Brie and an almost melting piece of Stilton, half of which was the outside rind! Others has a Christmas pudding served with custard! The standard of the food was simply unacceptable for the money paid. The service was also not great, a young chap tried to make us choose bread rolls whilst we literally were trying to sit down round the table. We had to ask for a wine list even though the mains had already been served, had to chase another waiter for the wine when it did not arrive, and then got delivered a white Rioja instead of the red we ordered. Cheese and biscuits were served without any knives appearing and coffee for seven came with no milk. Asked the waiter to bring milk which he eventually did in a teapot. At least we all laughed at that.I would have spoken to the manager but no one seemed to be around and anyway none of the waiters were interested in whether we enjoyed our meal or not. Ended the experience by going to find our own coats which had been placed in an upstairs room on our arrival. Will not return here and urge others not to waste their money.

Service was haphazard with two well-intentioned members of staff both asking us same questions and with neither of them seeming to have specific sole responsibility for our table. Had to remind them about our wine order when they served our starter. Tired dry cold bread served as we waited for starter came with butter and, not olive oil, but sunflower oil with balsamic for dipping. Had the bread been warmed it would have been much improved. Chose a starter with caramelised beetroot but there appeared to be nothing caramelised about it. All food was well presented but it all looked better than it tasted. Sorry to leave this review as front of house staff worked hard and did their best to please but more organisation required and kitchen needed to 'up their game' on the night we were there.

We ate at Turner's as part of a Superbreaks deal where we stayed at the Dukes Head. Without the deal, our dinner for two would have been £70+ including a bottle of wine and a tip. I had the tempura prawns followed by the calves liver and with chocolate brownie for dessert. My husband had the seafood trio followed by the calves liver followed by sticky toffee pudding. The food was delicious, although we had to ask for lemon wedges to squeeze on our starters which would have been a little dry without. However we were astonished by the portion size of the mains. It was ENORMOUS. To be honest you could halve the quantity and it would still be huge. The staff were very friendly but we struggled to attract their attention to ask for more water. Food great, Menu extensive and fresh and offers good choice. Service on our visit was appalling and we were ignored for over 25mins before I had to ask for someone to take our order. When our finished plates were not collected after such a long time we actually left without our sweet course on a 3 course set menu.Good luck if you try for yourselves.

We had a table booked for 7:30pm on a Friday night as part of our Groupon two-night stay deal. The restaurant was already quite full when we arrived and so we expected service to be a little slow. We were seated quickly and given our menus and then there was a delay before our order was taken and bread, oil and butter delivered. However the starters (Carpaccio for me and the Ham Hock Terrine for hubby) arrived very quickly and were absolutely delicious. We did have to remind staff to bring the wine (a very potable Portuguese red house wine) so we could start drinking it with our first course but it was only a gentle prod. The main course arrived in very timely fashion too - lamb for me and pheasant for hubby. Again the food was gorgeous and also very generously sized. Our server then said he would leave us a little while before taking our desserts order. The little while stretched out a bit longer than we would have liked. In fact, if my husband hadn't (accidentally) knocked over his glass of water, the delay might have been even longer. The desserts came soon after the order was taken (creme brûlée for me and cherry bakewell for hubby) and although the brûlée could have done with a bit more "brûling", they were very tasty. The staff were friendly and coped well given how busy the restaurant was. The price for three courses would have been £25 had we not been on the Groupon deal and I think this represents very good value for money indeed.

Had table booked for half eight. Arrived early for pre-drinks in the bar and to look at the menu. Was told we would be shown to our table. In the end the bar man had to take us. Ordered our food, waiter didn't know what fish was inside the fish cakes, then told because of a party of 11 before us they didn't have the steak that we both wanted. Ordered something else. Had to ask for the wine list and some water- which was not iced or had any glasses to drink it from. although the wine was excellent. Starter arrived, mushroom soup with truffle oil, this was very hot and tasty. Then had to ask for rolls to accompany the soup. This came with no butter! Main meal came, I had lamb, my husband had the plaice, both were luke warm and bland. With the plaice you really could not identify the fish from the mash as there was so little of it. The chips we ordered as an extra had a musty taste to them. Spoke to the restaurant manager about our disappointing meal. He took £5 off the price of the bottle of wine and took a pint of beer off our pre- drinks order and didn't charge us for the dessert we shared. I think this was inadequate as we still had to pay £67. We won't rush back there which is a shame as we have had many pleasant meals there before. It was also our wedding anniversary which ruined the night for us really.

We went for tea and coffee this afternoon. We waited for someone to take our order and then when there was no sign of any waiting staff went to reception to ask if we could order. Some 15 minutes later someone turned up to take our order of 2 coffees, 1 Earl Grey tea & 1 Darjeeling tea & one piece of cake. Another 10+ minutes passed and the order appeared - no Earl Grey & no Darjeeling and the coffee was frankly un-drinkable. At this moment we decided to cancel the order of cake. We finished our drinks and some time later as we prepared to leave the cake was brought. I don't think any of us had ever experienced such poor service resulting probably from poor communication between employees. The hotel looks very good & inviting but don't be seduced by appearances.

Booked Christmas lunch for the two of us, as our preferred choice local Hotel/restaurant (King's Head, Great Bircham) booked up for Christmas Day in September. The pre-lunch champagne was really excellent, as were the "sea-food and vodka" shots. Starters were pretty well OK, but the turkey, particularly my wife's, was very dry and getting extra gravy required a number of requests (we then got it twice) and cranberry sauce (three lots eventually). The Christmas pud was just a small disc with some brandy sauce.I cannot really blame the hotel for the lack of atmosphere - it is not their fault a lot of people hadn't. like us, anyone to share Christmas Day with - although they used three rooms for dining and I think the people in our room drew the short straw.A pity. We have stayed in rooms at the hotel and eaten breakfast their in the past and it has been excellent.

I came here for a meal with my friend . The service is usually a exceptionally high standard but whoever was wearing the suit in the restaurant tonight was awful. Granted it was Christmas Eve but to mention to guests that he couldn't wait to get home and that Christmas wasn't very Merry for him as he was working - is just out of order. He just looked like he didn't want to be there and it showed. The only thing he did do right was sort out our incorrect bill. I don't care whether it's Christmas Eve or not. I am still paying money and want good service . I don't want to end up feeling rushed , just so you can go home early.

Having previously visited the Dukes Head in May 2012 for a Murder Mystery evening and having enjoyed other subsequent visits to the Gryffens cafe, I was excited to attend a Christmas party at the venue. The party started about half an hour later than advertised, but the food was tasty (the goats cheese starter could have been warmer, but that's a minor niggle - the tofu red pepper main was delicious). I was a little surprised that the staff did not, on any occasion, ask if the food was OK and if we needed anything else - it was very regimental in service, and not as relaxed as the previous event I had attended. The party was enjoyable with a DJ playing a mix of songs from the 60s through to now, however, at the end of the party, we were missing a pair of spectacles which had been left on our table, with our drinks. It was quite obvious that these had been cleared away and put in the bin with rubbish from the crackers. Management staff were quite unhelpful, leaving one of the waiting staff to search through the rubbish bag solo, not finding the spectacles. These were a) expensive and b) crucial to our driver getting us home, as she could not drive safely without them. When the waiting staff said they hadn't seen the glasses, we were informed that the manager, Amanda, had said to leave our contact details and they would be looked for. We reiterated that we could not leave without them, and that there were far more valuable things such as mobile phones on other tables - a pair of specials prescription spectacles would not be high on any thief's list in comparison! She then came out and asked one of the female waiting staff if they had seen the glasses; they said no and, in full view of customers still at the venue, she stormed to a double-doored exit muttering loud enough for us to hear 'for [--]s sake'. This kind of attitude made us feel like we were an inconvenience, when we were adamant that her staff had not been vigilant and had simply put the glasses into the bin.The same friendly waiter who had gone through the rubbish bag on his own allowed us to rummage through the rubbish bag for a second time, thoroughly with him. Surprise, surprise - there were the glasses, in amongst all of the rubbish from the tables. We thanked him for his help, and Amanda came over and spoke to us. When we politely said that we had heard her swearing after speaking to her member of staff and that she hadn't been very helpful in assisting in the search for the glasses, she informed us that she was not referring to us or about us or about the situation, denying what we had seen with our own eyes and heard with our own eyes. She was very rude, I politely asked her not to call me a liar as I had seen exactly what happened, and said that, even if she wasn't specifically swearing about the situation or us, doing it so publicly was unprofessional and poor customer service. She got very stroppy and rude and started talking over me, at which point I informed her that the conversation was over and that I would be mentioning her attitude on here. Her entire stroppy demeanour was entirely unhelpful in a very stressful situation, as was the inaction on her behalf to do more than offer to take contact details. This was not the end to the evening we were hoping for or expecting, and really spoiled it.

As we are local people, we decided to have a pre christmas meal in the hotel restaurant along with four other friends, two of them stayed overnight as they live away.We all met up in the lounge for a drink, which has nice decor and furnishings to relax in, we then went through to the restaurant which is called "Turners" we were shown to our table and handed the menu's and wine list by pleasant and friendly staff. We all decided to have three courses consisting of a good choice of starters, mains and sweets, as well as a good and reasonably priced wine selection. All our courses from a varied selection was cooked to perfection, and nicely presented. Also our two friends who stayed overnight also commented that there room was very nice, comfortable and very clean. So to sum up, as locals our evening was very good and would recommend to others to try the restaurant, food and service was first class.

Beautiful building looking onto an historic market square. Food and drink are good with hard working staff but their management is poor. One can sit in the well appointed lounge awaiting service and the staff may find you if they haven't got more on the hands than is usual. They are then "on the ball" but the poor individuals cannot see the customers if they are at the bar, in the kitchens or "out back". With the opening of exterior seating alongside the renovated square one wonders how they'll manage. If one has any disability, the problems are significant. If one parks in their car park then there is no access from nearby. The lane to the front door is often completely blocked and the 5 minute diversion not simple if in a wheelchair. Getting the chair up the 2 steps at the front is difficult but there is a side door with simple access from the car, however, there is no communication from there to the reception to allow egress through this emergency exit.

We have just had a lovely meal at Turner's, while staying at the Dukes Head Hotel. The decor and ambience were lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. We opted for 2 courses for 21, which was amazing value due to the quality of the food. The chicken liver parfait was delicious. The pork was very tender, and served with Savoy cabbage & pancetta. The lamb my husband had, was again beautifully tender. We enjoyed our meal so much we decided to have a dessert, both opting for the lemon tart, which was just divine. The raspberry sorbet served with the tart, was truly delicious. 3 courses for 25 is just great value, the food was amazing, and exceptionally presented. We enjoyed a really lovely meal here, many thanks to Turner's for such a great experience.

We took up the evening table d'hote menu that offered a modest choice for all three courses. The food was excellent for five out of six of the items chosen and fine for the 6th. Visited Sunday lunchtime and the restaurant was very quiet with little atmosphere. Fairly limited menu but the food however was very good value and very tasty. Particularly recommend the home-made fish cakes with lots of fish and not too much potato. Soft drinks slightly more expensive than I would have liked. Go for the hot food which is much better value than the sandwiches.

This was the second time my partner and I had used the Restaurant for a Pre-theatre meal -very well priced I might add. The first time was excellent. This last time when I had another guest was a disaster! The service was dreadfully slow, even though initially we were the only ones in there. It got to the point where we had to forgo our desert in order to get acroos the the Corn Exchange in time!! To top it all, my steak had been overcooked and there wasn't time to get it changed! Admittedly we got some money off from the course we didn't have time to eat, but that wasn't the point!A poor showing for such a gem of a hotel!

The second room was just as nice as the first but with the added benefit of being warm.We had a drink or two in the bar then enjoyed a lovely three course meal in the restaurant, waited on by very polite staff.Breakfast the next day was also very nice with a wide & varied choice. My colleague and I ate at this restaurant since we were staying in the hotel. We didn't book that was fine as it wasn't particularly busy at around 8ish on a Thursday evening. The menu was interesting with the theme of something-i-knew-vaguley accompanied by something-i-didn't-have-a-clue-about which suited me fine.I went for a starter of "Quail Pithivier, White Onion Puree, Morel Mushrooms, purple Sprouting Broccoli and Quail Jus". Sounds exciting eh? It was tasty however what arrived definitely had a feel of "Greggs 89p chicken and mushroom pasty" about it, to be honest I wouldn't have known the difference. Also the accompanying morel mushrooms looked/tasted distinctly like field mushrooms and my broccoli was definitely not sprouting but was in fact rather ordinary broccoli. It was pretty big for a starter too (literally pasty sized!) but that didn't bother me too much. The main was better, here I had gone for "Roast Fillet and belly of Norfolk Pork, Sage and Hickory Smoked Sausage Roll, Date Puree and Thyme Jus". My sausage roll was slightly spoiled by my having just had a Greggs pasty but it was still very very tasty, the belly was delicious too but the stars of the show were the fillet which was cooked to perfection and the thyme jus which was really full of flavour. This was again a very large portion and I didn't manage to finish even half (there were also potatoes and vegetables) but I rather there is too much than not enough (and my colleague ate all of his).I was too stuffed to have a pudding but the dessert menu looked very enticing too.Service was a little slow at times but overall the experience was a good one and I would go back.

We came home with a great selection of apples and pears from the orchard, some we had not heard of before, they are all the same price by weight so you just make your own selection into a bag. We will be batch-baking apple-crumble for the freezer. They also have a nice butchery selection and local cheese amongst other edible. Not so keen about Gurneys the fresh fish shop as they didn't seem to want the custom they shut up early. The Fish and chip shop had a gluten problem which I will review separately.
