The Rathskeller in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

We held our wedding meal party here and it was amazing, the food was fantastic and the staff couldn't have been more accomodating and helpful.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had our wedding reception here, and it was absolutely perfect! The table layout was excellent, creating a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. The food was simply outstanding—every dish was delicious, and our guests couldn't stop complimenting it. The communication with the team was seamless from start to finish, making the planning stress-free. Everything came together to create a perfect day, and we couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to host a special occasion. Lovely food, fantastic service, and a flawless experience!

Fantastic service, shame there wasn't any seafood platter or steak available as it made the menu somewhat limiting. However, I wouldn't let this stop me visiting again although I'd want a firmed up full menu on offer next time.

Very welcoming from start to finish ..the lad serving us was fantastic couldn’t be more helpful ..chatty ..good sense of humour..we had a starter and the vegan roast ..it was very tasty ..couldn’t fault anything ..we had a lovely evening ..will definitely return

The venue was as described and the staff was welcoming enough. The menu was very limited. I should have guessed that with only one other couple on a Saturday night was very promising to be disappointing. The food was very greasy, the atmosphere was very quiet. Both the two course and the main were dripping with fat. I suggest that it is not a dining venue and the photos etc of the so called menu are not a true reflection the choice to appetite. In short it is not ready to serve food to a reasonable standard as yet. There is a lack of completeness of what this place is aspiring to achieve, therefore a 2/10 rating is top end.

My friend and I had a fantastic experience when we called in for lunch. The food and drink was amazing and the service was absolutely perfect, friendly, nothing too much trouble. We will be visiting again. Thank you so much 🥰

Stayed very close to the Rathskeller in the South Quay area of King's Lynn. The Football Euros were on and they had a large screen TV outside so we joined the masses and went for an England match. As you can imagine, it was very rowdy despite the horrendous weather but I though the pub and the staff organised and managed the event very well. We did go for a drink during the day when it was quieter and obviously it was totally different (as was the weather). Not sure why there are so many bad reviews as I thought it was a good place to go and would definitely go again if back in that area.

I can’t comment on the venue just yet (thought I’ve heard brilliant things) but they way our query was handled today and the level of service we’ve received / help with our issue was outstanding. Some of the best customer service I’ve ever received and really responsive and helpful today. Thanks so much to Ben!! Looking forward to rating the actual experience soon too 😁

Enjoyed a great sunday afternoon at the Rathskeller as we were staying at Hanse House whuch is a 2 mins walk .My husband loved watching the F1 outside on the massive screen .We then went downstairs to see the Soulful Sunday singer and DJ it was fantastic lots of friendly locals and a great atmosphere. Would definitely Recommend

Quite a mixed experience here on Saturday the 8th of June at 17:00 hours; it's a lovely looking pub and the service was good. However, it's very disappointing that they currently don't have any veggie or vegan options on their menu. At all! On special request, they raided their salad draw and put together some onions, Slightly Soggy® salad leaves, olives and peppers with a side order of chips. Disappointing and somewhat insulting in this day and age. On the plus side, I won't need to get my teeth clipped this week...

Great stop for breakfast during the Rebellion Way. Got there before they opened but happily took us in to get fed! Great quality bacon sandwiches

The Sunday roast set that we ordered was absolutely devine.The pork that I ordered was just falling apart and it tasted so good with the apple sauce.10/10 for me regarding food wise. There is plenty of seating available and luckily for us when we went for our lunch there were no other customers except for us.

With the name Rathskeller we was expecting German beers and maybe a German theme going on with the decor… Instead it was just a large rectangular room with a small bar in the middle offering the usual bog standard lagers. Very disappointing! Could be so much more!!! We left after one drink and went elsewhere. The only good point was the very friendly barmaid. Shame as this seems like a missed opportunity…

Staff Christmas party - huge expanse of white tablecloth on a round table without festive decor, no salt/pepper, no water and the smallest dish of cranberry sauce for 8 people. Starter was ok. Turkey dinner was horrible with undercooked roast potatoes and a frozen Yorkshire pudding. It was so tasteless I literally had no idea what was in my mouth. Thank god for wine. The mousse dessert was less mousse and more mud. The bar was a table in the corner. I asked for water which they had none. I was so thirsty I bought a coke which I normally avoid for the sake of my teeth and diabetes. The staff seemed stressed and miserable - we know that some of them were not being paid. We went downstairs to the ‘dance floor’ which was a sweaty corner of the room and was soon too full to even do a side step! Another staff party soon claimed the tiny space as their own and so we shuffled out with some of our party going somewhere else whilst the rest of us went home to contemplate why we had politely paid for the disastrous food and vowing to go McDonald’s next Christmas. Email complaints have been left unanswered.

Came for a Christmas party with my work. Hands down the worst meals I've ever had. The turkey main had very few vegetables (which were over cooked) and the meal was cold. I had rice pudding which, omg was absolutely awful. The atmosphere was terrible with grumpy unhappy staff, whom some looked like they were on the way to the skate park in their goodies and trainers. Several of us complained to staff who just grunted at us. Also I have emailed about this and didn't want to leave a bad review but I have had no reply. In these difficult times it's awful you take money off people for such terrible service and food.

2/12/23 The Worst Christmas Party Night I have ever been to Starter - Prawn Cocktail Bit of chopped iceberg lettuce with couple of spoonfuls of prawn cocktail no bread on my plate and you only got 1 triangle of bread Main - Beef Beef so tough couldn’t eat it Mash Luke warm Veg so over cooked Yorkshire pudding definitely not homemade Glad I didn’t have dessert Bar in corner if you could call it a bar No Atmosphere Downstairs was the music which was rubbish no atmosphere down there either. So we left and went elsewhere I left a Birthday present there and couldn’t phone until Wednesday to ask if it had been handed in. Spoke to manager who said he would ask his staff but had no phone call back to let me know if it had been handed in. Would not recommend

I wouldn’t even star it, it was that bad. Prawns were so cold only just defrosted. Fish had one mouthful and couldn’t eat anymore. It was a Christmas party night, an atmosphere was awful, left early. I will never go again

We came for the Xmas menu. We both had the Turkey main and Choc moose with shortbread. Arrived and was seated in one of the function rooms. Food came within 10 mins. Very very nice. Good atmosphere for Xmas parties. Though I think because we were a small party of 2 is why they forgot about us and 45 mins after dessert, we finally got our coffee and mince pie. The staff were very apologetic though. We would come back again as the staff are friendly and the food very good.

Where do I start??!! So we booked The Rathskeller for our annual Christmas Party for Saturday, booked in advance and pre ordered our menu choices as instructed. We arrived at 6:50 but unfortunately some of the party was running late. The staff came and asked the rest us how long they were going to be and they happily waited for them to arrive. Starters started to arrive but waiting on some more to come out. 10 minutes went past and we asked where the rest of our starters are, to be told "we don't have anymore to come" to which we disagreed and showed the staff our order that we brought along with us. Finally the rest of our started arrived. We had some wrong starters brought out also. One member of the party had Crayfish cocktail (similar to a Prawn cocktail) to find her crayfish was still frozen. We ordered a bottle of white wine which was served warm. Mains arrived. We asked for salt and pepper to be told, they were on a plate in the middle and they were sachets. We then asked for salt and pepper grinders instead. Most of our vegetables were over cooked. My plate had carrots that were old, white and wrinkly. Desserts were okay. The vegan dessert was tasteless and watery. We then made our way to the lower floor to have our entertainment which was part of the package. We made out way to our reserved table. The DJ wasn't playing the best music, more like background music but it was nice to be able to talk. Further on in the night, when most people were quite merry and wanting to dance. One of my team went to request a song from the DJ who basically told her "on her bike" (a polite way of saying it) The girlfriend who had come with the DJ then got involved and wanted to have a fight outside. THEN one of the staff member while working came up to my staff member as she made her way out of the building escorted by another team member... PUSHED her full force where I had to catch her and so did another team member so she didn't fall to the floor and bang her head. On that we were all asked to leave, including other parties that were there. Another party, also commented on how much a joke the DJ was and the girlfriend and that she had been causing issues all night. One of the waitress, keep apologizing to us all and she was commenting on how much a joke the DJ & his girlfriend were! DJ was very unprofessional and was topped off by the girlfriend drama. Quite embarrassing really for him. Overall, the worst christmas party we have ever attended. Such a waste of money and obviously trying to take advantage of the time of year. Who goes to a Christmas party to be assaulted by a staff member?! Went in Friday evening to try their Christmas menu, with main and dessert costing £28 each with a coffee and a mince pie to finish off. Food was nice and thoroughly enjoyed, service for main and dessert was good, but we were forgotten about for the coffee and mince pie and had to end up reminding them. In their defence they were busy but being pre-booked management should prepare for this.

The 1 member of staff before 6pm did brilliantly in a busy bar. Great selection of drinks helped by the ability to sit outside in glorious weather by the river.

Nice place. Shame they inflated their prices when the speedboat race was in town.

Food in this place WAS good 2 years ago, gone downhill rapidly, food is not worth the prices they're trying to charge now, The Rathskeller burger is a big let down, burger didnt look overly appetising with the Hockey puck "burger" patty inside, I had to cut the burger up like you would a cake to take a bite of the thing, just gonna cut it short now and say the best thing about my visit was my pint, so that's something I guess ? Not impressed.

I visited the venue on a work night out on the 28th January 2023 at 6pm.On arrival thought entrance was very shabby with floor tiles peeling up, caught my foot in one. Was seated upstairs, which was very cold. Only 2 radiators covering the whole area which was a large area. The menu was rather sparse, on choosing the burger meal, which I thought was the only dish I'd want. When the food arrived, everything was fine, but thought the plate looked somewhat empty. When re checking the menu after eating, found there was onion rings, coleslaw, side salad oh and bacon from in the burger all missing!! The waitress asked if all was fine to which we replied yes. Of all the 8 people on the table, no one would return. On leaving, had to use the facilities, to which were also of poor decor/cleanliness. Would not be recommending The Rathskeller...

I realise its tricky serving a group of 20 people, but this was one of the worst Christmas meals I have attended. The quantities were very meagre (one slice f smoked salmon for the starter and the smallest ever posset you are likely to see for pudding!) but the worst issues were the fact a lot of the meals arrived cold (the roasts had to be sent back to be microwaved to a luke warm state) and several people weren't brought their main course at all. At least when it arrived it was warm, but most people had finished their mains when mine arrived. ...and it had to be requested- the waitress staff didnt even realise or check everyone had a plate! Very disappointing and definitely wont be visiting here again. At £30 per head more is expected.

I never expect a lot food wise with a works Christmas party but this year I was pleasantly surprised. The choice of courses was good and main meal of traditional turkey was lovely! The Bar was busy but the staff were still very attentive getting us extra sauces and gravy. An extra bonus was that there was live music on once we had finished our meal which was really good. All in all one of the best Christmas parties we've had locally.

Poor service due to un-trained staff, kitchen taken on too much, to cope with, Wine outrageously expensive, food passible. would have been cheaper to go A La Carte, but a colleague said her's ordered this was was vile.

We hired the beautiful beamed room for a family private dining and Murder Mystery evening. There were 10 adults and one child , we could select our choice of meal in advance, there was a wide selection and everyone was happy with their 3 course meal, the wine is good and fairly priced. Rebecca and her team looked after us impeccably throughout the entire evening and we all have no hesitation recommending this venue / restaurant to anyone else !! We have just had the most depressingly awful meal of our 30 year marriage. Atmosphere of a prison cell. The food came out of packets; the fish poured oil out as you cut into it. The final insult was no vanilla icecream - who wants sticky toffee pudding with strawberry ice cream......and we had been so looking forward to it having seen great reviews on line and in the KL Magazine

Restaurant is a short walk from an ncp car park down a narrow cobbled road, it is alongside the river but no views of said river from inside. We entered through the bar downstairs and were shown up to the tables, all of which were available. The menu was limited but had something for mast tastes. The staff were friendly. Food was excellent, and reasonably priced.

We sat outside in the evening sun (which we’ll be a rarity although there were a lot of outdoor benches). Beer and wine good, food simple (not a lot of choice) but very good. Staff very helpful and attentive.

Absolutely awesome!! Held a surprise birthday for my fiancée last night and it couldn’t have been more perfect, the cellar bar is spacious but cosy, and makes for a great atmosphere! We had live music which they accommodated so well, the buffet was genuinely really nice, everyone commented on the food, and the bar staff were great - couldn’t do more for you! Can’t recommend enough, Rebecca you’re a star :-)

This is 2nd time I've been to the Rathskeller, the 1st time was pre pandemic. The food was excellent on both occasions. This visit i had the Toulouse sausages which were lovely and my wife had a steak that she said was beautifully cooked. The presentation was excellent as was the service. The restaurant was very quiet which i thought was odd for a saturday night. So if you're in Kings lynn and you fancy some great food give the Rathskeller a try, you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I booked the restaurant as we were staying in Lynn for the night. It was easily found and we were nicely welcomed. The restaurant decor was rather bland. Yes, there are exposed beams, but the walls are empty of shelving and pictures. The restaurant has no character and we felt underwhelmed. The menu was limited which was disappointing. I had the sirloin with chips and my wife had Coq au vin. My chips were massive wedges and my sirloin, although cooked medium rare, had very chewy white vascular tissue - not fat. My wife's meal was nice, but too cheesy. I've not come across cheesy coq au vin. If it wasn't for the service we would have complained. We will definitely never go back.

I ate here a couple of months ago in the bar and chose from the main restaurant menu, it was proper food cooked by a proper chef. Great quality and cooked fresh. I returned tonight and there is now a different menu for the bar (restaurant menu not allowed), it was awful. I travel all over the UK for work and haven't been that disappointed with a meal in a long while.

Soulless atmosphere, what should have been a beautiful building was completely lacking in any sort of charm and very utilitarian. This wasn't helped by the fact that at 7pm on a Friday evening we were the only ones there and it remained that way for the whole evening. Food was very average, seasonal veg was just kale which I don't like but there was nothing else. House wine was good. Staff were pleasant enough but overall a disappointing visit. The restaurant next door was completely packed both floors. Perhaps The Rathskeller needs to find out why they were empty.

Due to a booking mix-up elsewhere, our group of eight had to book last minute into the Rathskeller and it turned out to be the highlight of the day. Food & service we're both outstanding and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Fantastic visit to The Rathskeller for dinner. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly. We finished our meal with the panna cotta which was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Worth the visit, highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

We had our wedding buffet made by the wonderful chefs at the Rathskeller. All of the food was amazing and we had numerous guests say how wonderful the food was. The staff was fantastic very warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Absolutely fantastic and would recommend to anyone getting married in the future

Had dinner here only two days after the restaurant’s opening after COVID lockdown. The food was first rate as was the service, and at a very reasonable price. We would thoroughly recommend it. The venue is part of the only remaining Hanseatic house building in England.

Very limited on choice of beers, although probably more of a cocktail and spirits place Good music and large outdoor space. Unfortunately, no photos on this visit.

Nice setting, great food and staff very helpful

This establishment is trying to be what it is not in my opinion. The pictures on the website are not representative of what you get. Furthermore, the quality of the food was very poor. We had Sunday lunch and the beef was almost inedible - gristly and tough. The portions were too large to manage and the 'head' waitress was very offhand. Glasses were not clean and the whole atmosphere was poor. No wonder there were not many people there! No a place to visit.

Great place for drinks with friends

We went yesterday around lunch time. Tried to book but couldn't get through so chanced it and was luckily enough to get a table. Took a while to get a drink order but totally understand that it was busy, the staff couldn't apologise enough. The whole experience was amazing. Tried some of their cocktails. The best espresso martini I've ever had. We had starters and mains. It was beautiful! We will definitely be going again, bringing the family along too!
