We’ve just arrived home after a wonderful 2 night stay and couldn’t wait to praise this super hotel! We visited as a family of 3 with our 4th member a little pug in August 2022 and were very much looking forward to returning! We were not disappointed! It was simply lovely . From the moment we arrived when Lily greeted us we knew it would be an enjoyable stay! Our room was perfect and very clean and any requests were dealt with quickly and professionally! Special mention to the lovely day from housekeeping who made sure our 13 year old daughter’s stay was catered for - complete with robe and slippers! Sarah looked after us for our initial breakfast and she was so friendly and kind- nothing was too much trouble and you could tell the staff took a real pride in their roles! The food was extensive and delicious and freshly cooked - another win! The same on day 2 for breakfast when we were looked after by lovely Valerie who remembered us from our previous stay - another little touch which meant a lot and makes it feel almost home from home! All in all we were so very happy with our stay. This review would not be complete without mentioning Sue. She really leads from the front and is a great role model for her staff and a true professional with her customers. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant on our final evening and we were so well looked after by Sue and her team! What a great stay we’ve had with some lovely family time and memories, so thank you to the formidable team at The Ship for making that happen for us - see you soon! You were great! Woofs from Binky too 🐾

What a gem of a find. Having never been to North Norfolk we booked a three night stay and can honestly say we have had a fab time - so much so we have booked a return trip for 2025! Great pub, super rooms, fantastic food but more importantly amazing staff. Sue, Becky & Bev are a credit to your team even on the Sunday night when there was an unexpected crowd arrive they made sure we were looked after. Little super stars

Called in for food mid Sunday afternoon. My wife and I both had the Sunday roast beef. The Yorkshire pudding was large and good but there was one carrot, two roast potatoes, some cabbage and unidentified puree and two very thinly sliced pieces of beef which was described on the menu as being cooked medium rare but which, in reality, was well done! Very overpriced at £22.50 each. Not good value for money but probably priced to suit the holiday home owners in the area!

Real shame as nice place. All I ordered was a bowl of chips and some beers. They charged us £2 service for a £4 chip bowl. No warning on menu and we ordered at the bar so not even table service. The chips came and were not as menu states but were fries. Why have chips and fries on menu if there is no difference. Beer was also not good and flat. There is no excuse for adding service charge with no mention. As we paid by card at the time of ordering this was not noticed until after payment so we could not have refused to pay.

We have been regular visitors to the Shi p for years and have always enjoyed the food, atmosphere and wonderful service. Sadly things seemed to have changed somewhat - it’s hit and miss on service now depending who is working that day. On Monday 12th we had a fantastic lunch in the garden , there were 6 of us and some chose from the indoor menu and others from the outside menu- the young lad at the bar was fantastic and our food arrived at the same time served by a lovely friendly member of staff. However , today (Sunday) we called in for lunch and despite the friendly welcome we were very disappointed with the food and service . Our order was mixed up and came at different times, food from the main menu was great and came served on plates but the food from the outside menu was not as listed, wasn’t as good as previous visits and came on paper plates. We were told the issue was basically our fault because we ordered from different menus. Hadn’t been a problem 6 days before. We miss the wonderful service we used to get and the boundless energy that the previous managers had, it was always so nice to be greeted by them and they provided a really special atmosphere . Sadly disappointed.

We have stayed at the hotel as a family on 3 occasions now, this time we had the captains cabin, previously we were in room 4 which is the family room. Both rooms have a large double bed and double sofa bed which are both comfortable. The rooms are always spotlessly clean, bathrooms stylish with luxury products available. Tea making and coffee machine facilities. We ate out in the evening but the menu is appealing and food looked great. Breakfast was excellent, a good choice of hot dishes and buffet selection and fruit juices which catered for all our needs. The staff are always friendly and accommodating, the breakfast waitress is excellent she even remembered our daughter’s toy dog, that’s service for you! We look forward to future stays at The Ship.

Came here last September & it was buzzing with fantastic food. Based on that we returned this week. Wow what a disappointment! Mid August on a Saturday night and it was dead. The bar staff were indifferent when we arrived. Pleasant serving staff but slow & clearly not well trained. The food was below average, considering the price we were paying. The fish dish was minuscule & we are astonished when it came out wrapped in tin foil!! This is clearly a kitchen trick to keep it warm, which we did not need to see. We couldn’t believe it was served & no one said anything. The Ship feels like the captain has abandoned it & no one appears to be in charge. Such a shame as probably doesn’t need that much input to turn it around with an interested from the owners. We will however not be visiting again this week & will read the reviews next time!

The staff were very friendly and helpful (even carrying our suitcases up the stairs to our room for us!). We also ate in the restaurant - the meal was fantastic - I had the Teriyaki glazed tuna steak on noodles and it was bloody lovely! Nice vibe/decor but very slow service, Sunday roast was only pork or nut roast. Not many vege options, the roasted beetroot salad was ice cold and inedible. Waitress didn’t care when we returned a full plate, nobody asked if we had enjoyed our food. When I went to pay waiter was talking to a regular customer when taking my money, handed me my receipt saying “ok, yea” then turned to next customer before I could say anything (Wanted to say was disappointed with ice cold salad after waiting an hour for it) no thank you or interest so not left with a nice feeling. Awful place. When we arrived the bar was stacked with a mountain of unwashed drinking glasses: the barman, although extremely cheerful and helpful, had only one rather grumpy assistant, and they were both rushed off their feet. The bar chap, obviously embarrassed about the prices being charged, told us the fish portion on one of the main dishes at £27.50 was "tiny" so I opted for the crab thermidor at £28.00. Equally disastrous-the usual half crab shell full of crab meat, on a bed of samphire with a chunk of unappetising bread, Total rip-off. If you are looking for value for your hard earned bucks don't go near the place.

We had pre-booked a table for 6 people to have lunch at 2:15pm. We arrived on time and were shown to the table, which had only been set for 4 people which meant we had to pull a further 2 chairs up to the table, and had to request a wine list. We ordered a round of drinks for the table which took c. 15 minutes to arrive. We were waiting a considerable amount of time for a food menu. Eventually we called a waiter over to order some food and were told that the kitchen we no longer serving, despite having booked a table for lunch and not being warned of the kitchen closing time. The staff told us to be quick in ordering however took a further 10 minutes to come and take the order. The food eventually came and the waitress didn't even put the food at the correct place, she merely put them on the table for us to distribute accordingly. When the bill eventually came, we politely requested the *optional service charge was removed from the bill as we did not feel that we had received adequate service to warrant a tip, to which the manager began shouting that it as "shocking" that we wanted to rightfully remove the tip. He went on to say that the kitchen staff had stayed over time to prepare our food. My question to the owner is this... if your chefs are unwilling to work over their hours, why are you offering a reservation close to closing time whilst your staff are incapable of processing the orders to the kitchens in the correct timescale and working hours. If we were told that the kitchen were closing soon, we would have cooperated with the staff to help them work to their time scales.

Despite the best efforts of the friendly and efficient bar staff, I would recommend you give the Ship a miss as there are many other pubs/restaurants in the area that offer u much better food and better value. My Cromer crab baguette was particularly disappointing -as you can see from the attached photo there was barely any filling. It was so unsatisfactory that I bought it to the attention of the bar staff who offered to give me more crab - which I declined as the crab I had tasted was barely recognisable, and the bread equally bland. With the standard now so high along that coast, I won't be going back.

The restaurant at The Ship is second to none. We visited for dinner, as a family of 4 with our 16 & 11 year old daughters. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly host, who immediately asked how our day was and when we said we'd seen The King at Sandringham, dived into conversation about recent visits to the restaurant by local famous people. We visited for Sunday dinner and they offered a Sunday lunch menu which is always a bonus later in the day. The roasts were amazing, probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant, with tender beef, roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes which melted in the mouth and a top notch Yorkshire pudding. Our daughters chose the risotto and the sea bass, both beautiful dishes and cooked to perfection. Deserts were delicious, affogato, chocolate tart and ice creams were perfect. We had such a nice evening, the staff made the atmosphere welcoming and they were the right level of attentive. Thank you!

We had been walking and ended in Brancaster so decided to get a beernl and a bite. Beer was well kept, of course the prices were high, sort of expect that at this location in the coast, also a star for the bar staff who were very friendly. Attractive bar in a good location seriously let done by the food. We decided bar snacks were the way, and ordered a couple of baguettes. Again every pricey, the ham and cheese was about £10 and the Prawn Marie Rose approx £12. Rolls were cheap nasty things that I would have been disappointed by in a meal deal. Obviously bought cheap from the supermarket and for that price I expect something decent from a bakers. Filling was a bit so so, cheese obviously bought grated in a pack and the ham was a bit bland. Prawns were standard faire. Served with a few crisps and a bit of salad with balsamic dressing. One note to the good were the chips, bought a side order for £4.50 and they were good. We did comment on the quality of the food (when asked) and the staff member looked a bit lost and that was it.

Stayed at the ship on a couple of occasions and eaten here often , we came for Sunday lunch last Sunday and as usual it was excellent. Only negative thing that I could say was that the service was slow . This is in no way a reflection of the staff , they work so hard and are so friendly they are a credit to the place. It seems to me that they are very understaffed and the owners should invest in extra staff instead of putting the current team under so much pressure.

We visited The Ship between Christmas and New Year 2023 and were greeted by wonderfully friendly and helpful staff - this was a theme throughout our stay. The bar, restaurant and rooms are beautifully decorated, cosy and warm and overall the environment is lovely. The food is a slightly mixed bag to be honest - we had fantastic fish and hand cut chips, a superb salad and a brilliant burger. On the other hand, the skinny fries were undercooked on two occasions and lunchtime rolls were bland and a bit disappointing. The main problem during our otherwise lovely stay was that The Ship was clearly understaffed. The staff that were there were very helpful and friendly despite being rushed off their feet and most were doing everything that they could - this isn’t their fault, it’s clearly a timing issue. I have to say that with a slight correction to a couple of food issues and a couple more staff on at all times, our stay would have been perfect. We will come back in the hope that things will have been corrected.

So I booked a table for 2 inside and the way in was clear and we were immediately greeted and taken to our table. This restaurant not surprisingly is strong in content for fish dishes. Following some good advice we shared a focaccia bread and oil. Two helpings would have been excessive. Also following some excellent advice and help from our friendly waitress, we only opted for one portion of carrots and one portion of green veg to accompany our sole. The veg was well presented and tasty buy one portion is more than enough for sharing. We both opted for the sole which was for us a real change and we were not disappointed. Nice beer available, I opted for the relatively local Lacons. No room for a dessert sadly. Highly efficient service. You exit through the door you entered and note that the service charge of 10% is applied automatically which I personally prefer. Total bill just under £70. Dogs allowed and all were really well behaved.

My wife is dairy-intolerant.Some years ago we had a very disappointing meal at the Ship when their supposedly dairy-free menu(on a separate sheet) listed most dishes as containing milk products. We were persuaded to give the Ship another try, so booked for Sunday lunch last week. Spinach and sorrel soup, listed as vegan and therefore a safe option, on further questioning contained milk!To our surprise both the roasts, beef and chicken, also contained milk as an integral part of the preparation. They were noted as doing so but why does a roast lunch need milk?Needless to say there were no dairy-free desserts but that is not unusual.Responding to our complaint as we left, the front of house manager did not appear to understand the concept of veganism and the head chef was too busy to speak to us.If you suffer from any dietary intolerances, I suggest that you be prepared to question the allergy codes on the menu in detail, or simply avoid the Ship entirely.

We decided to share a seafood platter (£25.00) for lunch which was a big mistake. Poor quality, lazy presentation and the fried items, that were supposed to be crispy squid & scampi were soggy, dubious and tasteless. We asked for fries instead of the industrial potato salad and (Lidl?) coleslaw but were told chips would have to be an ‘extra’. OK but £4.50 extra for probably one lukewarm, greasy, soggy, sliced potato is a joke. The worst bit was finding a small lump of something soggy and white in the tasteless old salad leaves. I asked the waitress what it could be and she said probably crab. However crab was not one of the dish’s ingredients so it must have come from another plate. I’ll leave you to think about that! We were offered a 50% discount on the platter and couldn’t be bothered to argue with the unfriendly staff. A medium glass of unremarkable Picpoul de Pinet was £9.50.

My husband and I decided to have a day at Brancaster beach with the dog and made a reservation here online the before as they offer fog friendly tables. We had never been here before and did arrive a little earlier tan out reservation time but were welcomed warmly and shown to a nice covered area that was tastefully decorated. My husband had the rump burger with han cut chips which he said was really good and I had the chicken and mushroom pie with mash, mush pies an extra gravy which was delicious. The pastry was thin and crisp with proper pieces of chicken in it and when I commented how nice it was the waiter advised it was home made which you could clearly tell, just what was needed after a long walk along the beach. As my husband was driving I had a couple of Pimms and lemonade which came out looking great. To finish off I had the creme brulee which was lovely. We enjoyed our meal and will be back.

Reservation made on the 28th September for Saturday 19th December. 10 WEEKS later they rang to cancel the reservation on the evening of Friday 18th, barely 24 hours from our reservation. They cancelled on the assumption we were travelling from our home address in Tier 3. No conversation to establish any other facts - "Hello Mr Maloney, your home address is in Tier 3 therefore we are cancelling your reservation" and pretty much hung up before I could get a word in!!Arrogant and unhelpful. I would recommend they try engaging in conversation with your customers to establish some facts, had they bothered they would have learned we are travelling from PE31. Thank you for spoiling my wife`s birthday.

Staying in the area and booked dinner on Saturday night with our puppy. Very welcoming friendly staff and felt very COVID secure. The food and service were both excellent. Lovely atmosphere inside and they have gone to a lot of effort to create a stunning outside dining area. Thanks for a lovely evening and for being so dog friendly! We will be back again soon.

After a recommendation from a local friend, we visited on the first night the pub reopened after lock down 2. Dining as ‘separate households’ we were able to follow the rules and sit in a fabulous outdoor space. A canopy covers the whole area and there are ceiling heaters and gas burners. Different seating areas for drinking and outdoor tables for dining. Beautifully decorated with twinkling fairy lights and planted troughs and tubs. Absolutely stunning! The food is ordered by phone app and yes it’s a bit of faff but straightforward. Adding to a basket and paying for the meal at the end would be better and having a notes box for ‘one pudding two spoons and extra plate ’ etc would be good but staff will sort anything when they bring the orders. Fish pie and simple green veg was to die for- really excellent! We run a business locally and had not dined here for a very long time. Absolutely spot on, great decor and loved it.Providing safe, beautiful outdoor space is the way forward and The Ship have just got it so right.

I know that since covid many restaurants are using smartphone apps to take orders, but not everyone (especially we older people) has smartphones, which is why every other restaurant I've been to offers some alternative. Not this place. I was told that the owner insists on the app so any potential customers who don't have smartphones are not welcome. (They claim "it's to protect our staff" but the waiting staff have to come close to serve and clear tables, so that's nonsense.) The app also means that you have to pay in advance when you order - great for the owner, not very nice for the customer. Fortunately my friend did have a smartphone so as it was getting late we did have an ok lunch, not bad but nothing special. We wanted a coffee afterwards and a waitress happened to be standing right by our table - but she told us (looking embarrassed) that she couldn't bring us coffees unless we went back into the app, found our way to the coffee part and paid first. We felt about as welcome and valued as a coronavirus.

After ordering and paying for a meal and bottle of wine we wanted to order a plate of cheese to share. We did this by adding on to the mobile QR order. A waitress turned up 5 mins later with another bottle of the same wine which we hadn't ordered. She insisted that we ordered it at precisely 8.15pm. It seems that the basket is not emptied after each order and after you pay, thus if you add one plate afterwards you pay for it all again. They realised we didn't want the 2 main courses again so didn't bring these but thought we might want more wine! This happened to an elderly couple at the table next to us the following evening when the waitress insisted that the man take the pint of beer he hadn't ordered. It took 2 days for the refund to come through. There will be a lot of people out there who have paid twice for a meal or who have accepted extra food/drink they hadn't wanted. Have written to the manager to ask that they get this resolved. Apart from this we had a good stay but when these things happen it colours your visit.

Stayed for one night during a socially distanced half term. Very welcoming, particularly for dogs where the welcome treats and bedding went down well with our four legged companion. Beds and room were really comfy and well decorated, so relaxing was easy. We had a room on the front but were not disturbed by road noise. Breakfast the next day was heavenly! Staff very friendly and efficient. Good price for what we had!

We stayed here over 5 days in two different rooms so got quite a good view of the hotel. Overall impression was very good. In more detail: Room 6 was preferable to (the more expensive) room 9 so that’s a tip. Both were stylishly furnished, had comfortable beds and great bathrooms (though bath towels could have been bigger and fluffier). Good TVs (internet connected) and WiFi.Staff very friendly and helpful. But the absolutely best feature was breakfast: the “full Norfolk” will see you through till teatime and was excellent quality as well as generous.

Arrived a bit early, politely taken to clean table, we knew the drill re the app and ordering on line as we've been before, still found it a struggle, relieved I didn't suggest it for my elderly mum and her friends let week, there is no way she would manage. Starters were good , got the bread (particularly good bread) with my prawns this time, didn't last time. Soup was excellent, mussels ok but the sauce didn't have much wine, mainly cream therefore a bit tastless. Then we waited 35 minutes for main course, had to ask. Instantly regretted going for the vegetarian option of falafel and 3 bean salad. Really not good at all. Falafel hardly cooked, three beans was just that ....3 beans , OK maybe a few more.Tastless salad leaves and possibly half a beetroot and quarter of an apple. I'm a slim woman, I resorted to eating the teens leftovers from their burgers (which were good). It was £15!! Can suggest you splash out on some pitta to accompany and even some taztiki. Hubby had a mains of mussels which was not the most generous of portions. I have to say that the staff are friendly and safety in terms of covid very thorough. But why do their vegetarian options always underdeliver on size and value?

Food was OK without being brilliant. Wine was well overpriced, but mostly the ridiculously complex online ordering system was overbearing and spoilt our evening. We like to discuss the food/drinks with staff and not waste so much time fiddling with mobile phones when bar staff are a few feet away.

We stayed here last year. Very good experience and extensive menu. Not the case this year. Stayed in the Captain’s room v good and clean and staff attentive. However, ridiculously complex online ordering system. Have to input card details every time you pay with no option of PayPal single payment. Staff cannot serve you directly with food or drinks. No atmosphere and poor service experience. Menu, very poor choice for such prices and very average quality. Only choice of six main courses burger and chips, scampi and chips both £16! , or a steak for £27. Etc no fresh fish, lamb pork etc. Did not realise how limited the menu was until we had too much to drink to drive somewhere else. Cancelled dinner for subsequent evening went to the Orange Tree in Thornham much better experience and a burger and chips there is worth £16.

My wife took visiting family to The Ship because it’s a nice place. It also has a good Covid system for customers to use.......... when it works and here is why it get a 1 out of 5.The mobile signal was poor (not the pubs fault) but the WiFi system is very poor and doesn’t extend to all area of the pub. All my wife and guests wanted was three coffees but the Covid system (scan QR code, book order on line and pay online) didn’t work even after multiple attempts. Instead of helping the staff just said “walk around with your phone somewhere else to see if it works”. The staff did not verbally take an order and allow payment by contactless so my wife and guest left without the coffee. This system is a great idea if the pubs technology works but it doesn’t. The Ship will not be on our place to visit because you can’t order and staff were not helpful. Avoid! Please bring back some common sense in these difficult times

The Yorkshire puddings were faultless [and I'm a Yorkshire woman!]The ordering system is done via a mobile phone and that worked well for us. The online ordering system is not the easiest or what you want to be doing on an 80th birthday meal, to much time spent looking at phones and not feeling you are valued by the restaurant. The staff where very nice and helpful but they just deliver the food and clear empties, no input as to what is on the menu or specials. If you forget something you start all over again and pay again, no tab pay at the end.The food was well cooked and very tasty

We visited the Ship on many occasions over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have waxed lyrically to friends, encouraging them to go there. But our lunchtime visit yesterday was a thoroughly disappointing occasion. We had booked and arrived at the appointed time. Having checked in with the NHS App we were shown to the table and told all the instructions were on the card on the table. Order over the internet was the only option. It took us sometime and the menu was more limited than we remembered. It was a far from pleasant experience. After a false start we did manage to get my bank payment approved. All through the process the very pleasant waitress kept popping back to check on progress and said this was the only way to order. We persisted and drinks and food arrived. Meanwhile a fellow diner was having the same difficulty but his phone couldn’t complete his order. The manager attended but confirmed there was no alternative to internet ordering and they left. We have eaten out on a number of occasions during the new Normal and whilst the experience has been different to normal times, nowhere has anywhere near as bad. To not be able to accept manual orders and be happy for customers to leave disgruntled and un-fed is unbelievable. The food was fine.

We loved our stay at The Ship from Sunday 27 September to Wednesday 30. We had booked for Sunday lunch before checking in. On entering the pub we sanitised and checked in with the NHS covid app. We then ordered our food via the online ordering system - yes it was frustrating to have to enter our details each time over the 3 nights we were there but they are working on improving this and the system is still only a few months old. The food and drinks arrived in record time and all the food we had over our stay was excellent quality nicely presented and very fresh. Our cavapoo came with us on this trip and he was made v welcome with ‘pooches’ dog biscuits, bed, water bowl and towel. He loved his dog biscuits so much we have ordered some from the local business that makes them! He was also offered a breakfast sausage each day - he had never had a human sausage and of course couldn’t resist them! Having worked in hospitality for many years I don’t think some people understand just how difficult for the staff it really is - a lot of them are on reduced hours or having to change location to just stay working. We thought all the staff were lovely and helpful and the interim manager is trying hard to improve everything - we believe the rooms will be renovated in the New Year but we found them v comfortable with lashings of hot water. We will be back in the new year to see the changes but to all the staff at The Ship we say a big thank you for our staycation and a big woof from Cooper

I suggest that the designers of the drinks and meal ordering system actually try it for themselves and they'd soon see how frustrating it is to use. The excellent staff are put in a very awkward position to explain this mad system to confused customers. Needs a complete rethink.

Nothing wrong with the food but their ordering system leaves a lot to be desired. Phone would not connect to their system very easily. When it did it froze on the payment screen. We asked could they not just take our orders themselves like everywhere else in the area but apparantly they are not allowed to!! Waitress brought us a tablet to use and again it froze. Part of our party were ready to leave by now as this was becoming a farce. The same thing happened and their tablet froze. You have to order everything in advance and then pay. This may be ok at Weatherspoons but not here. We didn't bother ordering any dessert or more drinks as it was such a hassle. The staff did let on that they'd had a lot of complaints and fed them onto the owners. I notice that similar negative posts on here have not been responded to by the owners. If you want somewhere good to eat locally go to The White Horse (restaurant) or The Jolly Sailors (pub food). Both have great Covid systems and believe it or not their staff are allowed to write down your order. We will be avoiding The Ship until things change.

We had a dinner here one evening which was great. Food was all delicious - they had one vegan salad option. I would love to see more vegan options on the menu as they didn't have a starter or dessert. Had to order online for food & drinks due to covid but was fine. We did pre order a prosecco for the table as we went for a birthday... but this was not there on arrival as the message had not been passed on, which was a shame and ruined the surprise. Overall a nice place to go and would return (if they had more vegan options on the menu!)

The management has lost the plot. We were given menus and a tablet and had to order our food separately from our drinks On the tablet and pay in advance. It was so tedious that our charming waiter had to help. We got so fed up that we didn’t bother ordering puddings or more from the bar. This is a place we visit every year but never again. I felt so sorry for the staff, who were on the blunt end of people leaving because of the ridiculous system or being shouted at. We have been to several pubs and restaurants since Covid 19, all with different ways of dealing with the problems and this is the only one to have got it so wrong

Always visited this restaurant when in the are but never again. It used to be very good. The only restaurant we have visited in the area over the last week that was not really interested in customers. Rude and full of own importance senior staff. Not flexible, not helpful. You use the QR system to order and pay by credit card upfront before you see your meal. Think this is discussing when you are spending £75 for a meal for two. What if the meal is poor.................what happens then?In our case we never got that far, we entered our credit card info and the waitress said we needed an authorisation from the bank, she fetched a senior person who just asked hadn’t the authorisation come through yet, card holder hadn’t got their phone with them and I had not brought my card!! We offered to pay cash and they refused so we walked out. The credit card has been used in every other restaurant this week with no issues and no authorisation needed!! It’s a meal for goodness sake not a large electrical item or holiday.Boris Johnson has been asking us to eat out to help out but with some places it’s impossible..................they are making it impossible.

Discovered this restaurant two years ago and had a great meal and same again last year - but so disappointing tonight. The menu is now just pub grub. We sat in a tucked away room - felt like the cheap seats! Ordering through the app is a pain. Food very mediocre - fish wet and batter under done. No one asked how our meal was. Had dessert as hungry having left most of main course - bit of a rip off - brownie with raspberries. If you put together the deconstructed raspberry you might have made one! For great fish and chips go to The Hero far superior.

We'd been looking forward to a Sunday lunch at The lodge for a long time. The trip had been planned months in advance. The service we received was warm and prompt. Very friendly. The food, however, made us wish we had eaten at the Le Strange Arms hotel we had stayed at down the road. The pork my wife had was a massive steak (rather than slices from a roasted joint) and the fat was not rendered at all. The pork steak looked like it had been flash fried and was so underdone it had to be left. The roast potatoes tasted like they hadn't been re heated enough. Clearly not freshly made. The roast beef was so tasteless I wondered what meat it was. The Yorkshire pudding was clearly reheated but not enough. It was not crispy nor was it hot. All in all my wife and I agreed that it was one of the worse Sunday lunches wed ever had. We had considered staying at The Lodge, but after eating there we have vowed never to return. So sad, as we had SO looked forward to eating there.
