Visited this restaurant as it offered gluten free breakfasts. I am a coeliac so have to avoid gluten which is found in wheat, oats, barley and rye. All coeliacs know what happens when you eat gluten so I will spare readers the details suffice to say it is akin to food poisoning. After I left the restaurant I was unwell. When I contacted the restaurant later they insisted their products were gluten free and fell back on the old excuse that they do their best to avoid cross contamination but cannot guarantee it. They obviously did not take my complaint that I had been either served gluten or been given a dose of food poisoning when they glibly hoped that it would not deter me from calling again. I think that indicated to me the care taken to avoid this kind of situation. So for all you fellow coeliacs out there - just be aware.

We dropped by Norfolk Lavender on spec and decided to grab some lunch. It was really excellent! Roast chicken dinner was delicious, with constituent parts (including a fluffy Yorky) all very good, and everything cloaked in a generous amount of delicious gravy. Seemed to have been prepared with care and a desire to turn out a plate to be proud of, despite the rather obscure location. The ploughman’s was also very good, and lavish in size (note to management - the portions could easily be smaller - half the cheese, half the ham, half the bread - and I’m sure no-one would accuse you of stingeing!). Too full to try the cakes, but they looked great. Service friendly and efficient - a real little gem, in my humble opinion. Well done!

We arrived at 1pm today for Sunday lunch with my Aunty & Uncle - they only started serving as 12.00 & they advised us there was only one Sunday lunch left. We then had to order from the normal menu. The meals took a long while to come & when they eventually did my Aunty's salad had an insect in it. We took it back they said they would change it- yet another long wait & we had to chase it so that she wasn't left eating on her own. No real apology or compensation for the inconvenience- won't be rushing back

We have visited several times over the years, first visit in the 90s so have seen the changes over the years. We knew to come here for lunch and the tea rooms did not let us down food was lovely, the children's menu great too. We had a walk around after, was a little disappointed with the shop I wanted to stock up on goodies for home but was very limited stock compared to previous years.

Visited last year and had to leave a negative review regarding the facilities for visitors with dogs. Please to say there has been a massive change and visitors with dogs are made very welcome in the restaurant. Only 4 Stars as dogs not yet welcome in the shop - we would love to browse the gifts on offer as a family - not with one left behind with a coffee. Maybe next year!

I was very disappointed with the fish and chips this lunchtime. The fish was awful it was just hard crispy batter with a thin piece of fish inside that was inedible! I took the plate with the batter back to the counter and was confronted by several members of staff telling me how good their food was. It was NOT. Even with the evidence clear on the plate they were rude and aggressive! I was told I should have taken it back straight away without cutting up the fish!! Disgusting behaviour displayed by the staff members. I had to leave without eating lunch and with the dreadful behaviour of the staff. Training wouldn’t go amiss here. Also a tray with dirty cups on was on the table and when the”food” was bought to the table the staff member left it there. Not a good experience and no refund offered. Shocking.

What have you done? We are regulars all year but the latest changes are dreadful. Why is the main seating area now dog friendly instead of the smaller area? Weaving between the tables without tripping over dogs is dangerous, to say nothing of the hygiene issue. Tumblers now cheap plastic instead of glass and many more downgrading issues. Thank goodness the food and drinks are good, if a little overpriced.

I arrived for afternoon high tea with my elderly in-laws, on being shown to our table we were shocked to be seated in the dog area of the restaurant. We enjoyed the high tea despite being surrounded by dogs. However when we paid the bill we mentioned the problem to be told by the manager that we should have requested a table in the non-dog area of the restaurant when booking. I along with my in-laws adore dogs and have many dogs in our extended family but don’t expect to be surrounded by them whilst eating afternoon tea, furthermore don’t feel we that should need to mention on booking that we don’t want to eat in a dog area. I would assume the non-dog area would automatically be the first choice. When did dogs become more important than paying customers.

The staff were polite and friendly, the children's meal were plentiful and the fish and chips were the best I had in a while ( and that's from someone up north) - fresh fish, batter were cooked to perfection and enough to fill you up. Food wise, dreadful. Everything came out of a packet and was clearly shop-bought. Waffles were terrible, probably bought from Lidl down the road. This cafe is the equivalent of a motorway service station. Coffee came out of a machine meaning you could not have any alternative milks. Full English was small and disappointing, very basic and all out of the freezer except the egg. Cheap silverware and trays that were dirty, and exceptionally long queues.

I had the best fish and chips I've ever had here. The batter was perfectly light, crispy and tasty. The fish was perfectly cooked and moist and flaky. The chips were thick cut, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. I had mushy peas too. I would have preferred less mint in them but that doesn't take away from the fish and chips. After a visit to Norfolk lavender we stopped for lunch. So I want to say the staff were very nice. I made them aware my mum has a dairy allergy and asked the till staff to ask the chef what the options are for food. I was told the chef is happy to do few options but the fish and chips sounded really good so it was unbattered fresh fish which I ordered. Unfortunately there was a few issues. There was no dairy free alternatives so they served dairy milk despite being told. Luckily it wasn't drank by my mum. Then the food comes out and it's battered fish with buttered bread and dairy sauce. I told the waitress and she did apologise coming back with a drink to apologise while the chef made another. But again brung dairy milk! The staff were nice but did lack basic listening skills. The ploughman's which I had was very nice. The lavender tea also.

The full English is £10.50 and for that you would expect exceptional. But it’s only a 5/10 I asked to swop mushrooms and tomatoes but they don’t swop despite allergies. Coffee is just from a machine and is mediocre but charged at costa prices for small cup, so Costa would be cheaper! Mushroom Benedict had about two dessert spoons of sauce. After coming here for over 10 years we were very disappointed to find that the Barista coffee machine has been replaced by a push button coffee maker. Not a good move. Flat Whites were weak and we may as well have had an americano with milk for the same taste. No skill or service put into making the coffee. Also over priced. The cafe was chilly and we had to keep our coats on inside. One improvement is that dogs are now allowed in an area of the cafe. Would not bother patronising again due to the sub-standard coffee and overpricing.

Attended today, not very busy, breakfast finished at 11:30 but asked for beans on toast for our 4yo who has special needs and a rare genetic condition and said she was a little fussy, waitress asked the chef which we saw and chef straight out said no, they sell beans as a side so wouldn’t take much to put on a piece of toast, very unaccommodating and unhelpful! We ended up with a bread roll and side of beans! They have to toast tea cakes, they sell bread as sandwiches so really not very good. Lovely place let down by unusually high priced drinks. If you're wanting a tea and scone you're fine. But a "large" pepsi max was post mix, almost £2.95, and was no bigger than a 330ml can. Which would currently costs no more that 42p. I wouldn't consider that a large, and certainly would say that was proportionally priced. Everyone is in business to make a profit and they should be able to make some money, but I feel that this is highly disproportionate.

Our daughter purchased a voucher for our Golden Wedding Anniversary almost two years ago. Due to Covid restrictions we never got round to using but the Lavender Lounge still honoured it, which was lovely. The tea was delicious, finger sandwiches, warm fruit scones with clotted cream and jam, various small cakes. And a never empty tea pot. The staff were lovely, very busy but still made time to check that we were satisfied with everything. We would recommend this place highly, but for afternoon or high tea you have to book at least 24 hours in advance. This place does get very busy, the restaurant has an extensive menu. For our first wedding anniversary, the White Horse was the perfect place. A warm welcome and little touches to make our dining experience great, such as the happy anniversary card on our table. Wonderful food followed.

I agree with previous review this restaurant has no ambience or atmosphere and I agree is lit like a bright cafeteria. Dimmed lighting and candles on tables would create a more intimate setting. Two young waitresses one was very quiet but pleasant, the other had an unpleasant attitude. Food was very lacking. We had cheese afterwards which was fridge cold-we asked for butter and 2 wrapped pats of butter arrived in the waitress’ hand not in a dish. Wine served in a very water stained glass-clearly no steaming and polishing of glasses here. Told waitress we were not happy she said she would tell her manager, we then went to our room. Breakfast was included in our room rate but we couldn’t face it the next morning, so went elsewhere. On check out we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay-says it all. Lack of management and poor staff training.
