Tumbledown Farm in South Staffordshire

We have previously eaten here when visiting my son and daughter in law so chose to eat here again. However, our experience this time now ensures we will never set foot in your restaurant again. We were rushed to our table, and was sat for 20 minutes before anyone came to take our food order. Our food order was then taken and we chose olives whilst out starters were cooking .... they arrived with our starters.... food was good and we were looking forward to the rest of our meal.... we ordered more drinks, which was another 20 minute wait. Then it all went to pot...... 1 hour and 50 passed with no Main meal and after many attempts to talk to the staff, I went to find a manager. I was assured that someone would come and talk to us,oh and she did!!!!! Not only did she raise her voice to us saying it wasn't her fault that her chef had walked out but she was extremely rude and obnoxious in her attitude. Not once did anyone come and tell us there would be a delay or give any updates, and the most annoying thing about all this.... people were coming in after us, orders taken and having their food at their tables whilst we were waiting for our mains. Communication was abysmal, the manager didn't manage and service was shocking.

We visited this restuarant recently as have always had lovely meals and fabulous service over the years and was looking forward to a meal out. The greeter was very friendly and welcoming and as we were early we ordered drinks from the bar fro a friendly bar tender. We sat down and our order was taken very promptly. The table next to use was dressed in what looked like to be a red cover that that you would see at a children's party or on a dining table to protect it whilst a child was sat there doing crafts. We then realised it had to be set up for people who had booked the Valentine menu. It looked very cheap and taccy. Come on EGO make more of an effort if you wanted the table to have a theme or don't bother it is a restuarant not a wacky warehouse. Our startes came ot prompltly but we waited a considerable amount of time for our drinks order. We could see other dinners leaving the table and going to the bar themselves this was probably why as they were sick of waiting. Starters were well presented but the quality and taste wasn't up to standards that we have had in the past but were edible. We waited and waited and waited the best part of an hour for our main course. This problem was also happening to a large party and another couple in our area as a member of the large party asked about their wait. Our meals finally came. We were asked if we required and condiments and these never appeared and the lady who brought our meals not dressed in an EGO top but not the greeter was was taking meals to other tables. Half way through a meal it was noted that the pitta bread which should have accompanied the kebab hadn't arrived. This had obviously been forgotten along with the condiments. Our designated waitress apologised for this and for the further wait for more drinks. The bill was brought over promptly when asked. We sat in this restuarant over our alloted time slot of 2 hours for meals for two people due to the long unacceptable wait for our main course. The restuarant had a steady flow of people through so didn't appear overbooked a tables were vacant for long time periods. As we ate our meal we did remmber saying that last time we came the service was very slow but that was not long after lockdown restrictions had lifted and it was a known fact that the hospitality service were suffering with staff shortages. I did feel sorry for the staff as they were trying their best in the given circumstances. After this experience we shall not be visiting again and shall have to travel to other towns for an EGO experience. It is such a shame as Cannock lacks restuarants in this price range and beautiful well kept venues.

Food is good but wow is the service terrible! 50 minute wait for our main, we did not have starters. Empty glasses not taken off the table so crowded. An age getting plates cleared before someone asked about desserts. Getting the bill was hit and miss trying to grab someone's attention and then a wait to pay. If they were more efficient they could turn tables around quicker, get more people through the door and have happy customers. Will not go there again due to the time every stage takes. And to add to the suffering, since M&B bought it, they can no longer serve Glute. Free food safely as they no longer have a separate prep and cooking area. Shame on you M&B.

Never again long waiting times and below average food

I took my fiancée for valentines, and could not fault the food and service and the ambience we did go late on the evening so it was very calm and relaxed atmosphere, will go again soon!

We went to Ego for our Valentine's dinner and had the set menu. We were very pleased with the choice on the menu. The food is top class, very tasty! The service is prompt and the servers friendly and polite. They are quick to respond and all of out three courses arrived in good time. We shall visit again!

Where do I start... booking online was easy, even if a relatively sizable deposit was required. We dined the day after valentines. For context: vegetarian, table of 2 adults, eating off a set menu. The staff were, simply put, run off their feet. One would assume that around major events eg valentines, that all staff would be working. Especially in busy periods aka Saturday nights. We waited almost 30 mins for our drinks to arrive. Again nothing outrageous. A beer in a can, a mocktail and tap water. These had clearly been sat waiting for a while, the ice had begun to melt. Now while this may be a strategy to incentivise clientele to spend, this certainly didn't instill confidence in me. Our cold starters took nearly 60 mins to arrive. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but cold starters don't need any cooking , and can easily be prepared prior to service. So why, I ask, does this take so long? There was only 1 vegetarian main course option so we selected this, mainly as this was the only selection available. This arrived 1.5 hours after we sat down. The butternut wellington was the driest heap I have ever tasted. Presentation- 3/10 Taste - 2/10 I had 4 bites and gave to my husband. He only ate it as he was so hungry having had to wait this long. The only saving grace of this dire meal was the dessert selection, which arrived approx 15 mins after order taken. The service was only redeemed by the member of bar staff who was bringing drinks and taking payments, finally with some decent customer service skills and a smile. We also noted similar experiences and comments from other diners in close proximity, with comments of untimely service, food arriving cold, tasteless and bland. Whilst we can all appreciate hospitality is a rough industry, there are expectations and targets that should be maintained. The evening out was sullied by this experience, and like an airport, I am announcing my departure and reluctance to return. If this passes for acceptable, I dread to think what a bad day looks like here at Ego, and I have to wonder if other branches across the nation have diners with similarly poor experiences.

Big works party (26 people) and the team all did fantastically. Food was all on point and with no big wait times between courses. Service attentive without being overbearing and atmosphere was relaxed. Would recommend.

Had a lovely meal tonight to celebrate our daughters 16th birthday. We were seated straight away and as we'd pre-ordered we were served our food pretty fast. Staff were very accomodating and nothing was too much trouble. Must give a big mention to Kanye for his above and beyond service. Service with a smile always goes a long way. Extra accomodating for a member of our group who has a food allergy. Thank you!

Visited Ego for Saturday lunch with our daughter who is Coeliac. What a great experience. Our waitress Nerissa greeted us with a gluten free menu as I had noted on the booking. The service was excellent and the food tasty, hot and good value. We will definitely be back.

The food and location are lovely. Our waiter however made us all really uncomfortable! It seemed like an attempt at banter, but it was awkwardly overfamiliar to the point that we dreaded ordering anything!

Food was okay chicken could done with more sauce after mains a different waitress to one we had asked jf we wanted pudding had waited 15 - 20 mins for no one to bring it back so in end paid tje bill about 10 mins after a bill the same waitress came back here your dessert menus i said paid already as waited long.

We met up with some friends there that we hadn't seen for a while so had a lot to catch up with. We didn't feel rushed, the food was excellent, the atmosphere was good, not overpowering and we were very well looked after by all the staff there, especially Tonya. We will definitely be coming back, hopefully soon.

My son opted for this place for his birthday meal. The staff was polite and very accommodating, no issue there. Understanding personal needs; be it accommodating me as a war veteran or my my youngest and his “hangriness”. As far as the interior; very tasteful decor. The pricing is what warrants a certain expectation when it comes to the food. Here it was rather disappointing. Be it on flavour, presentation or portion size. The King prawn cocktail was true to its word, it was A KING PRAWN cocktail. Consisting of one anaemic king prawn. My Moroccan Style Lamb had two pieces of lamb cubes in along with some badly over cooked vegetables. You want to charge the prices you do you need to deliver to a better level. Shame

Was very disappointed. Myself and a few of my family went her one lunch time. Some of our food was cold and side orders we had to wait way after we received our mains.

Been a few times booked for a 60th birthday what a let down not enough staff a meal missing when I told them all 14 meals a month in advance asked for some water twice never came we had drinks that very slow at arriving spent nearly £500 pound there not again I fear

Setting is nice staff are friendly.. we both had sirloin steaks… Food was nice meat was terrible we left half of it.. I know steak is hit and miss sometimes but seriously it was like rubber and full of fat…

Me and my husband went her for lunch on the steak day. The atmosphere was nice. However the steaks we received were really chewy, we had different cut of meat cooked as suggested and both were not great. The staff didn't seem to smile much either adding to this 3 star review. Very disappointed.

Of the three Ego’s I go to unfortunately this was the worst, not bad, food still good but service was slow, one meal came or 8mins after the other three, I know doesn’t sound long but it is when three people are waiting to start and the food is going cold. Same happened with the first round of drinks, we had to chase it up 3 times, they weren’t busy either! We will not return in a hurry unfortunately, Lichfield or Maregreen in future 👍

Roast dinners unfortunately wasn’t great. Gambas pill pill was lovely. Great service from John Paul. For the money they need to definitely up there game on food.

Amazing experience here tonight the restaurant was so busy and yet the service was phenomenal. We were served by Nerrisa who was both attentive and friendly. She even added a special treat to my dessert as it was my birthday. Lovely atmosphere and fabulous food. Highly recommend!

We were part of a group celebrating a 40th Birthday on 11th January, a very busy Saturday night. My daughter had made the booking for her husband as a surprise having been let down by another restaurant. The staff were so accommodating even from the initial booking. We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant. The food was served without any delays meaning we were all eating together, no waiting around. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone commented on how lovely their meals were. The service was impeccable, nothing was too much trouble and a special mention to Stephanie who was so kept smiling throughout. I could not fault one single aspect of the evening. The whole experience was absolutely superb, you all definitely deserve a big shout out for making our night so special.

Kayne was our waiter and he was wonderful especially considering how we had awkward people on our table who insisted on keto swaps. Most pleasant.

We took my daughter out for her birthday today.Disappointed in a few ways Room not very warm and the food was not up to the standard of last time.It wasn't exceptionally hot the beef was a bit tough so the knife wasn't to good .Roast potatoes were a bit hard and the cauliflower cheese which was extra was tasteless and hard .Overall it was so disappointing we never complained as my daughter would of been angry with me .when you spend over £100 I'm not happy .Never again

This was our second visit after having a positive experience the first time, however when we arrived we firstly waited to be seated at the entrance whilst the waitress seated another couple ahead, was not acknowledged at all which is fine, but she returns to the entrance to grab some menus but ignored us stood there. We then must’ve waited at least another 10 minutes just at the entrance, we then had enough and decided to get a drink at the bar to be told we couldn’t have expresso martinis as they have no ice so could not make the cocktail. I then had to ask a different passing waitress to seat us. We were seated and the table was not laid correctly as missing a fork - the manager of what I can gather then came to the table and explained the ice issue and said we can have cocktails but they’ll be warm with less of a head etc, she left and we must’ve been waiting another 15 minutes before we had to ask a different waitress attending the table beside us to take our order. Once we’d ordered another waitress came to take our order but realised this had already been done,when our mains arrived we asked for water for the table which we were given but then shortly after another waitress came with another jug of water - an obvious communication issue with the waiting staff. We received our starters which tasted nice, but we both had the mixed paella for mains which were bland and mushy. Very disappointed overall - clearly needs more management to identify stock issues and implement effective team communication and organisation.

It saddens me to write this poor review. And looking at others the theme looks the same. Large booking, ridiculous wait times and cold food. We waited 1 hour to be seated, a party of 9. Arrived at 4. Left at 7.20. Mains arrived after 2 hours!!! 4 hanging kebabs 1 missing all accompaniments, which arrived 15 minutes later. 2 meals cold. 1 was returned and still came back cold. Plates from starters were still on the table when mains arrived. We requested water that never came. No glasses were cleaned from the table. Ordered drinks which took ages to be served. I have visited ego many times over the years and notice that 1 in 3 visits are poor. A group of 2 or 4 is usually a much better experience but larger groups always seem to result in long waits. The standard of food is usually very good when it comes. The waiting staff friendly but often understaffed. So the blame must go on the company/ management who just don’t seem to be able to adequately staff or run this restaurant which is a shame. A discount was offered, which I appreciate, but I’d like to attend in the future and just get the service you’d expect from an established restaurant.

Have been here before and always had great food and service so booked to bring 12 people for my daughters 18th …and NEVER AGAIN…. Food never came out together sent children’s meals not adults… food missing from order so had to wait again… service was terrible food was terrible steak not cooked…. Then other steak was over cooked like eating a rubber tyre and was sent back onion rings that were full of grease absolutely ruined the evening couldn’t wait to leave had guest leaving hungry as food was not able to be eaten will not ever be returning not even worth the 1 star rating drinks left sitting on the bar 15 mins plus had to call staff over to ask them to be brought over to our tables NEVER AGAIN

Good food and atmosphere but the night was made special by our server Nerrisa who was attentive and fun.

Went today in a party of 21 people. We all had festive menu. At end we were given total bill with surcharge of £72. I went to pay mine and my husbands separate and they still put a £12 surcharge on so I said no I will pay what I want to pay. Staff are abrupt rude and do not smile. I have had better food at Hungry Horse and Toby, needless to say will not be returning. My tip for the staff is you are quite clearly unhappy so look for another job
