Hinksford Arms in South Staffordshire

A disastrous Christmas Day Dinner. We waited once seated, for an hour and had no service despite reminding the waiting staff that we hadn't had our fizz and warm breads. Our table wasn't laid properly and there were 5 chairs strewn haphazardly around it. No napkins, crackers and the cutlery was dirty and not correct for courses. The table cloth was dirty and the salt and pepper pot had been placed over a huge splodge of cranberry sauce in a bid to hide it! The waitresses were struggling and it was clear there was a huge issue. I saw people leaving halfway through their sitting. On speaking to one couple I was told the service had been dreadful and the food was shocking - stuff burnt, veg uncooked and the list went on. I was told the 2 chefs had walked only a week earlier after being treated terribly. I had only spoken to Kirsten the Tues, the week before our Christmas meal and she could have told me then that there was a big problem. So many people could have been saved from this experience if the Pub owners/managers had just been upfront about what was going on. Instead theg allowed guests to arrive and be subject to a very unprofessional service. There were no more than 4 or 5 staff working and one was the Manager who was doing the cooking. We had our money refunded as we left and hour and 20 mins after being seated and not being attended to or served with anything. The waiting on staff were visibly upset by the situation as they were having to manage the the whole fiasco. The photos show the state thd table was in as we sat down. Apparently, this was 'ready' for us!

Complaint - hinksford We went for Christmas dinner as a family and was utterly disappointed. We had “warm” bread with butter as an appetiser and bread was cold like it had just come out the fridge and raw. The starters weren’t anything special and below average on what you would expect for £60 per head!! Our mains didn’t come out until 14:40 even though we sat down at 12:20. Carrots and sprouts were raw and solid, roast potatoes cooked too much and could barely get a knife through them, Yorkshires were over cooked and store brought, turkey was nice but dry, lack of gravy (which is a shame as the gravy was really nice). Pigs in blankets were over salted and burnt, and stuffing was overcooked. No one checked in with us while eating and cleared our empty glasses while halfway through eating. Desserts took around 40 minuets to come and custard was cold on our desserts making them taste horrible and we didn’t touch them after this Extra info - no napkins, wine glasses dirty, awful table service, no ice in drinks, wrong cutlery for a soup, ignored my 88 year old grandad by a waitress, no salt and pepper on table. Just want to mention that it was not the waitresses fault that the service wasn’t great, they were all overworked and manager was no where to be seen…… VERY disappointed

The worst experience in the world! We booked to go for Christmas Day, table was booked for 2:45, we received our ‘starters’ at 3:30, they brought out burnt garlic bread for my 6 year old child. The waiter who brought out the garlic bread after complaint stated ‘alright no need to speak to me like that’ The pigs and blankets were burnt to a crisp! We had no drinks or warm bread on the table. Having trying to speak to the manager we were told by the waitresses that 2 chefs had walked out last weekend so only the manager was the chef. The staff were so rude and unhelpful, to the point that the manager simply refunded my dad £300 in cash. Why we were not informed about this prior to Christmas Day is beyond me, we could have made arrangements elsewhere or cooked for ourselves. We weren’t the only ones who experienced this, others were walking out!! Ruined Christmas Day and we will never be attending this disgraceful establishment again!!!!

Booked the pub on a recommendation from friends for our Christmas Day lunch. When we arrived it was clear there were some issues with tables not being ready. We were seated 15 minutes after our allotted time. When we sat down I moved the salt and pepper to find a massive cranberry sauce stain all over the tablecloth. By my partner's elbow there was another. There were no napkins and the cutlery was dirty and not appropriate for the food we had ordered. 45 minutes later we still hadn't had the advertised fizz and bread, despite reminding the staff, and no explanation as to why there was a delay. There were very few staff serving, and the couple that were were fighting a losing battle. We started to see people leaving having not finished their meals. We spoke to a couple of them who said they were leaving as they had waited so long between courses and their food had not been pleasant. We found out that 2 chefs had left in the last week. At that point we decided to leave. Really disappointed that the establishment thought they could a) ram so many bookings in in one day rather than just have two sittings which would have been far easier to manage and b) didn't inform customers that they didn't actually have any chefs to cook meals and offer customers the choice to cancel and get a refund. Our Christmas has been ruined as we fancied "treating" ourselves this year to a meal out. Instead we have had a Christmas Day with no Christmas lunch. We would like to mention that this was not the fault of the waitresses who really were trying their best and were visibly very upset with what was going on. They bore the brunt of a lot of very unhappy customers and probably had just as miserable Christmas Day as the vast majority of people who frequented this establishment today. Would not recommend this establishment at all.

Absolute carnage is the only way I can describe what we experienced today, Christmas Day 2024. We found out that chefs had walked running up to the festive season and the remaining team.....a skeleton staff were left to puck up the pieces. We waited fir an hour and a half and received no service at all, whilst watching others being served.......and then spotted another group of people leaving halfway through their meal. At this point we made a decision to leave also. We had had no food so cannot comment on this but was told by the family who were leaving midway through meal that the food was very disappointing as wasthe service. The 2 young waitresses were left to deal with the chaos and stream of complaints we witnessed and caused them to become tearful and frustrated. Management were conspicuous by their absence from the scene and were 'cooking' in place of the chefs. This was in no way the fault of those waiting on and we felt so desperately sorry that such a farce was unfolding that we insisted that they take the healthy tip we handed them as we left to get a drink and to thank them for their best efforts to make the most of a dire situation. The tables weren't changed between guests and ours was soiled with gravy and cranberry sauce. Some of the cutlery wasn't clean and it wasn't correctly laid; there were no napkins and there were chairs scattered around the area we we sitting.

Christmas dinner was ok but the service by two very young unexperienced staff which had no idea how to serve. We saw how upset and stressed the young girls were but the owner/chef is to blame here NOT the young girls who clearly has had no training or much experience. I felt sorry for them, we waited quite long for the meal no potatoes and carrots were undercooked but to be honest for £60 each for Christmas dinner for what we had can’t demand a refund really, the room/pub was very hot to point where we could not stand the temperature of the room anymore and none of windows were open, all windows was steamed up and basically the room was over heated and stuffy and hot. Would I return next Christmas, probably not.

We hired the restaurant for a club meeting and asked for a buffet. The food was perfect with a good variety of sandwiches, sausage rolls, nuggets, salad and chips. Drinks were readily available at the bar and we're served with a smile. Highly recommended.

Fabulous tasty steak and ale pie ... But it was 1 pm on a Sunday...we went for Sunday lunch but it wasn't available. We were told it may be available in about an hour ... We ordered and enjoyed our pie .... Other customers were still trying to order Sunday lunch and being told it wasn't ready !!!!

One of the best vegan mains I’ve ever had in a pub! Mushroom and tarragon pudding served with mash and peas! Every element was delicious! Will definitely be returning to try the other vegan options 😋

Comfortable local pub with decent food selections. We came in for lunch and enjoyed the warmth from the wood burner and the selection of real ales. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the southern chicken wraps. A nice local pub, with a visit.

Five of us had lunch. Service was quick. Desserts were lovely. We felt it was reasonably priced.

Wasn’t sure to start with. 12.30 on a Friday lunchtime and car park virtually empty. Never a good sign. Went in and staff seemed stressed and overworked. However food was great…. Always a good sign when for a steak sandwich, they ask how you want your steak cooked…. Really very nice and excellent value. The longer we were there the more the staff (landlady/owner) got friendly and ended up being a pub I would really want to return to. When we left the car park had filled up too

There was a casino club on so noisy The food was really very poor 1 Couldn't tell me what was in the £12.99 offer. If you can't provide it don't advertise it. 2 I had " bruschetta" which was 2 very small pieces of barely toasted bread. 4 slices of tomato & a smattering of red onion. No oil or dressing cost eye watering £5 2 Main I had chicken & bacon salad for £12.99 I was presented with a few leaves red onion & a tiny chicken breast sliced Pointed out should include bacon, croutons & a blue cheese mayo. Came back with burnt bread topping & a hot blue cheese sauce I assume usually used with steak? Only 2 staff on bar / clean up & a young chap serving food. If I hadn't been with my pregnant daughter in law & paid upfront I'd have refused to pay full price. Never Again Were the chef & managers on holiday???

Awful experience. Each of the four staff declared they were the only one on tonight but were unable to prepare our meals within 50mins. We were told there was a backlog in the kitchen which seemed strange as we were the only ones in the 'restaurant'. The 'food' duly arrived and the waiter legged it! We found vinegar and brown sauce which was unable to soften the pastry in the pie. Also: how do you burn peas? There was no one to complain to and when I asked the barman for a pen (to write a complaint) he said he would drop one off when he had time. Eventually we left (couldn't eat the food).

Have just been for food, waited 45 mins for 2 meals, when I went to the bar they said they had a backlog of meals which was hard to believe as we were the only people eating in the restaurant. When the food arrived there was a small portion of tiny chips and my husband had a pie that was so overcooked he couldn't cut it let alone eat it. We left our meals and went to local chip shop where we purchased a much better meal for a third of the price. Needless to say we will not be going to this pub again and would definitely not recommend the food or the service.

Had lunch at this lovely pub today my friend and I food was lovely lady serving very nice and very proffetional the chef was a really nice guy and a very good cook all for £10 each you should try it sometime you won't be disappointed

Visited here recently whilst on a canal boat holiday. Had a few issues with offer prices not working on the till, so check your prices. However we were promptly given a full refund before we left. 10 of us visited and ordered food(3 courses), we wouldn't hesitate to visit again based on the food we had. Only mark cooking and he did a fantastic job, all the food was delicious especially the garlic mushroom starter. Brandon also handled a very busy bar brilliantly, even when the tills wernt working properly. They both deserve some recognition for their hard work.

Not sure whats happened to this pub since take over, but I was bitterly disappointed in the behaviour of some of the young lads during the England match on Saturday afternoon, and even more disappointed in the lack of management actually doing anything to combat such behaviour. Broken glass all over the garden because they were being thrown about left right and centre, and also a chair thrown from one side of the garden to the other, resulting in yet more broken glass, but more importantly, narrowly missing a baby in a pram, can't believe these young lads have not been barred, or at the very least, spoken to about their behaviour. Management probably not aware of the situation as they were nowhere to be seen during, and only came out afterwards to clean up. I understand that it was busy and tensions were high due to the match etc, but there really is no excuse for that behaviour, it puts you off wanting to go into the pub, shame as this used to be a nice place, but seems now as though its run by young mouthy lads, who are disrespectful and clearly unaware of the families with young children. I don't necessarily like to write reviews based on how the customers are acting, but I really think this behaviour needs addressing.

I visited a couple of times whilst I was moored on the canal. The food was very good and very good value. The pub has a nice atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for letting our football team celebrate the end of the season. We all had a wonderful time. Many thanks for having us. One star taken off the 'atmosphere' category as one member of staff was really unfriendly and made me feel really uncomfortable each time I came to the bar....so I stopped buying drinks. Everyone else made us feel most welcome and the pizzas were delicious 😋 thank you again 😊

A canal side pub in pleasant county surroundings. Without doubt the most welcoming public house we have visited in a long time. A very friendly local pub with good food, well kept beer. A first class pint ! Highly recommend. Give it a try don't pass bye. Bridge 38.on the Staffs and Worcester canal. Enjoy

Popped in for afternoon drinks in the garden area. Very pleasant surroundings. Drinks were very reasonable prices. Food looked good value, but we had already had lunch

Arrived as a first time customer with a friend. Went inside and immediately saw a group who included a female bar worker, shouting loudly and swearing ! She went outside, and shouted again that she was going to stay there all night ! She appeared drunk and abusive. The management did nothing about the female bartender or her abusive manner. I would definitely avoid this pub especially if children are with you. It was quite unnerving and very weak management

Service was a little bit slow but was well worth the wait. Food was very good ,one of the best pub meals i have had. My new favorite local for food.

Venue 5* Food 5* Service 5* Drink * Toilets disgusting, its not that they aren't clean its more that they badly need refurbishing, it looks like it rains inside, hole in the ceiling plaster off the walls, i considered visiting the hospital for a tetanus booster shot the next day just in case, we will come back but only when the toilets are on the same standard as the rest of the pub.

Locals have stopped using the pub no staff resulting in long queues beer not good , host not welcoming to the point of ignorant enough said

Absolute shambles! 2 staff on a busy busy bank holiday waited for food when it came it was awful even the bar maid agreed it was bad I appreciate you are looking for staff but if you can’t provide a good then don’t offer one. Maybe just concentrate on bar for now

went to the Hinksford for dinner today 6th may was told we could not eat outside and there where only a couple of staff the kitchen was closed so people went without food . This was a bank holiday so it would be obvious to hire enough staff for the day

Kitchen closed before 445pm on a Sunday after booking a table! Booked a table for 515pm on a Sunday. Arrived at 445pm only to be told the kitchen was closed. Very disappointing after going out of our way with two hungry children. Had to leave and struggle to find somewhere else at that time on a Sunday. Wouldn't risk booking to go back again after this experience.

What a terrible experience. We’d been for a nice walk along the canal & thought we’d pop in for a coffee. Very frosty welcome when I asked for coffee as the coffee machine wasn’t ready. This was turned 1.15pm & they’d been open since 12. While we were waiting for the coffee machine to be prepared my husband noticed a lunch deal which said from £6.50 although there didn’t seem to be anything on it priced at £6.50. We ordered 2 fish finger sandwiches & 2 soft drinks & when put through the till the price came up as £17.98. When I queried it the member of staff fetched the owner who gave me a load of flannel about the brewery’s pricing. One fish finger sandwich came out whilst I was still talking to the owner. We then had to wait for the other one. When they came they were very underwhelming. Needless to say we won’t be frequenting this place again! For a pub of this size in this location with a large car park it should be full to capacity & a little goldmine. There were about 5 men in that’s all. The ladies toilets need upgrading too, door sticking, toilet seats not fixed properly & cistern push broken. Save your money people & go elsewhere!

Live locally so thought we would give it a try. Called ahead and booked a table and was told it was the last table . Arrived and restaurant was empty - not a soul in there. Was led to a table which was dirty with ketchup and crumbs left on there by a waitress who looked very annoyed to have to wait on a table. She said very little and facial expression never changed during our visit - constantly looked peed off. Ordered our meal and drinks and waited around 30 minutes. I had lasagna which was tasty and paid extra for the garlic bread which was dry. Came with salad which was the smallest salad I’ve ever see and contained two sad half slices of cucumber and one slice of cucumber on a bed of cos lettuce. Both kids had sausage and mash with a stingy portion of gravy. Hubby had a mixed grill which was small but he enjoyed it. When plates were delivered we were never asked if we wanted anything else like more drinks or sauces. She dropped the plates off and walked off without saying a word. Waitress never returned during our meal to ask if everything was okay - in fact she never returned at all. We ate our meal and resorted to going to the bar to pay and then left. During our entire visit not a single person arrived at the restaurant to dine which made us sceptical it was indeed the last table left for the night ! Never experienced such poor and uninterested service! Food was okay but there was no atmosphere and zero service . Considering the waitress had only one table to serve I was shocked at the lack of interest in working on our table. We normally tip everywhere but we did not tip on this occasion. Spend your money elsewhere

I thought as I had used the car park whilst fishing on the canal, that I should repay the Hospitalty with a meal and a drink. I ordered the Lasagne and aside of garlic bread.The Lasagne was very small, the salad was some Cos lettuce heart, 2 slices of insipid tomato and 1 slice of cucumber halved. No dressing. £13!! Garlic bread wasn’t sourdough. The beer was good, I was very disappointed in the meal, especially after waiting 35 minutes. So thanks for the car parking, but I won’t dine with you again.

The barmaid was amazing. The chef walked out before we got our food order so nothing to comment on unfortunately. We were refunded. Bar busy. Restaurant area not so busy. Saturday 30 March @ 3pm.

Waited over 40mins for food , only table of six off lunch menu , nothing fancy , Wasn’t busy and I can see why . Food was over priced and small portions , upgraded fries for chilli ones and it had a sprinkle of something on top , fish finger sandwhich was normal breaded toasted not bloomer with the fish being manly batter , loaded fries was small and for £8 what a joke . Was all still hungry after so got deserts else where to stop being ripped off more , won’t return .

Had a nice meal lady what served us was really lovely , just two points Both mine & husbands meal just had a few gem lettuce leaves , could really have done with just a bit of onion and tomato! ! Made the meal look bare . I had lasagne. & was very surprised to have to pay £3 for two very thin slices of garlic bread to go with it where other places it comes with it !

We hadn't been to this pub for quite a number of years, the owners have only been there since September. The pub is cleaner and smarter than I remember. We were aarge group of 25, but the staff coped admirably. We got food one table at a time as a result it was piping hot. My Halloumi was so crisp and my husband's pie and mash was tasty. We would happily make a return visit.

Only dropped in for a quick drink after a long walk along the near by canal. Very convenient for people who walk along the canal. The female toilets however were out of use. Which I can only assume was a temporary thing.

Great pub, excellent customer service, looked a nice menu but didn't eat. Quite a selection of beers. Lovely walks along the adjacent, picturesque canal

Remember it as a kid. Then taking my kids. Now there taking me. The pub has recently been taken over. The new landlady is a whirlwind. Very friendly, beer is still good for real ale lovers, but plenty of choice for larger drinkers. Eaten there three times and although generally pub grub. It's good quality and tasty. On the whole a very good transition. Can't wait.for the lazy days outside when the summer comes.

Booked Sunday lunch, nice pleasant staff snd surroundings, ordered lunch in a almost full seated area and waited around 45 minutes for food; initially thought portions were small, we both enjoyed our meal but felt the restaurant should have been more prepared and have cooked food in abundance to eliminate waiting time. Good value.

As a table of 18 for our works do the room was lovely and the food was excellent.Everyone came away saying how they enjoyed the evenings Definitely come back again

Went recently for a family meal on a Wednesday evening, when it was fairly quiet. Good menu, food and service. Kirsty, the owner was attentative and is working hard to increase the variety of functions there. Will definitely go again.

Excellent and friendly service. It was my dad's birthday and we put a pre paid tab behind the bar to be used after our fishing match. All the staff and manager remembered it was his birthday and wished him well. This meant a lot to me and my father. Thank you to all at the Hinksford Arms.

Very disappointed there were no chips on offer as they had run out. Not told until after we had ordered our drinks so no way back. We all had mash with our meals of which three were ok but my wife`s fish was almost completely missing under the batter. My steak and ale pie was much better than my last visit , this time it had meat in it not just gravy as before.

Really nice friendly pub - thanks will call again when next that way

Would not return, myself and my partner contracted food poisoning following eating a meal here. We were ill for three days following the visit and after complaining to the owner it was completely disregarded and brushed off. The owner advised the chef uses a temperature probe to 75° in all dishes and fills out a chart to prove this on a regular basis. :Reported to Dudley Council.

Went for a meal with my family and out two dogs. We all had a wonderful time; the atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming (for us and the pups), the food was gorgeous and the prices are great too. Thank you Kirsten and your team for a lovely visit. Looking forward to seeing you for more visits in the future :)

We booked here as we have had a meal here a while ago Doubt we will return The room was really cold The portion size was very small we had three courses and we were certainly not full!! Two of us had the prawn cocktail starter it had 4 prawns in it and a teaspoon of sauce which cost around £7.95 very poor The waitress that served us was really nice and provided good service

Great location and we have been before which was fine but this visit was not good! There were seven in our party and the food and drinks were ordered no problem however upon re-ordering our drinks on two separate occasions these were forgotten. After twenty minuets we had to remind the waitress which isnt great. To make things worse myself and my partner contracted food poisoning unfortunately too from the vegetarian dish which is a first for us. We eat nothing after the meal as we felt fairly bloated and full and by the middle of the night we were both being sick. We were ill for three days following the visit and it was an experience we do not wish to go through again. This was reported to the manager of the restaurant but we haven't had a return response, compensation or apology. The manager said that all food has its temperature tested. Lets just hope they clean the probe between all dishes!. Would not return.

Called in on a Tuesday lunch time and had a meal from the lunch menu. The peri peri wrap with chips was fabulous, portion was good for a lunchtime meal. Good service with friendly staff and was good value for money. I will be recommending to others..

Good local pub with a good pint and decent pub food. Good atmosphere and there is allways sport on the big screen. There is an outdoor play area for the children. Also inside there Is a dart board which is nice too see in a pub these days.

Service 5*. Staff was friendly. Pub is lovely. Meal was nice. Steak was cooked perfectly. My burger was ok. I've had better but had loads worse. Fish and chips and onion rings was a bit greasy. But saying that I would definitely go back but chose something different from the menu

Food excellent, good variety of Ales

Just popped in to be nosey really as we heard it has just undergone a refurbishment. Looks lovely. Hubby had a real ale( nice selection) and I had a g and t. The staff are very welcoming and can see it's a dog friendly pub too. Will be back soon to try the menu

Booked for sunday for 5 adults and 4 children. Food took over an hour to come out. The children had to wait for the hour for their food too (pizzas and sausages - not exactly difficult to cook) and were becoming very agitated! Very few veggies options. Will not be returning unfortunately.

Over priced junk food, ordered 2 pizza, no taste, we had 2 drinks 2 pizza and the price was £28. The choice of food is very limited and certainly not worth the price. It was nice to sit in the sun and the staff are...

Went for the American car meet up. Pub itself is very nice. Calm and nice atmosphere. Prices are around the average for the area. Service is great and staff are friendly and welcoming and like to have a laugh with you

I do not recommend. my 4 year old sister visited this pub with the family and was greeted with the up most rudeness. We went to the bar and the waitress asked what we wanted. My sister said she wanted a fruit shoot and the waitress said in a rather aggressive tone, looking right at her, ‘what one.’ we asked and my sister said ‘the purple one.’ The waitress looked my sister up and down with the most appalling, disgusted look - i am aware this sounds unbelievable, because it is!! I do not recommend this pub to anyone who wishes to be treated with This is not acceptable, certainly towards a 4 year old.

Rubbish… ordered a burger and wasn’t told til after it was put in front of me half the stuff that came with it was discontinued so was just a dry burger, was told I could reorder but already waited half hour to be served so...

Booked in for Sunday lunch today. OMG the Food was amazing as always. Couldn't fault the staff or service either. Always have a good time at this location. Staff friendly and helpful, food brilliant, drinks reasonably priced. Thank you for looking after us

9 of us went here for lunch on Sunday and what a terrible experience it was. It was freezing cold in the restaurant and we asked if they could put some heating on which they didn’t, so consequently we all ended up eating our meal...

Nice relaxing atmosphere with friendly staff and decent food.

Great beer. Food disappointing. Mixed grill was overcooked and dry. Salad on starters was dry,flat. No dressing. Grandsons burger bun was burnt but still served. Kitchen issues ,but staff are good

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. We eat here regularly and have never had any reason to complain - food is always top notch. Must be the best pub in the area!

Wonderful country spot for a little light walking along the canal and a drink or food afterwards.

Had a lot of atmosphere but felt awkward if your face didn't fit the 'regular' crowd. Steak was really nice and that's about it

Booked a reservation to have a meal in a ‘dog friendly booth’ in the restaurant to be told on arrival that my reservation can’t be found and that dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant ..? Waste of time. Staff don’t know what’s going on and couldn’t give me a solution.

Cosy pub which welcomes dogs. Nice lil poker game there on a Thursday.

Sunday lunch for Mothering Sunday .AMAZING !! Food was excellent, serve couldn't do enough for us !! We definitely be back

Went for Sunday lunch today. My first visit here and definitely not my last.....me and partner took his mom, the food was absolutely amazing and the staff were lovely. Kelly was our waitress and nothing was too much trouble for her...in fact this was the case for all the staff...Kelly went above and beyond in helping us choose a lovely ice cream dessert. We'll done everyone. We will certainly return. The bar staff were also excellent and treated us like we were regulars.

Really enjoyed the food !! Four cheese melting pot was delicious!! Intended to have a dessert but couldn't manage it after the gammon and eggs !! Service was very good too !! Would definitely visit again .
