Tulsi Tandoori in Brighton and Hove

An update to my previous review from a few months ago. We have ordered several times since the first review was left and whilst the food has always been really, really good, we have had to wait nearly 2 hours for each order despite ordering around 1800 each time. No apology when I called to check where the food was and nothing from the driver dropping off the food. No updates during the process and we had to call twice to chase our meal before it then finally arrived. Appreciate it is usually a Friday or Saturday when we order, but when it states 45mins for delivery that is then confirmed as 1 hour at point of order, that then takes 2 hours, the order really should just be cancelled or at least a courtesy phone call to update. Will think twice about ordering again from here, despite the great food. Disappointing as the food is really awesome, the service just doesn't match. (Previous review - Superb meal delivered last night. The best takeaway Indian meal we have had in a very long time, having tried a few others locally. Definitely recommended and will be ordering again soon 👍)

Ordered a takeout meal from Tulsi Hangleton Hove , food has gone downhill big time most of the vegetable dishes undercooked what I would call al dente , no flavour to dishes and I think they should get the cook book out and learn how to make onion barges instead of onion stodge , I do try to support our local business’s but the food they serve is terrible not edible.

I ordered a Lamb Tikka Balti which is described on their website as 'spicy and creamy'. The sauce was creamy but also completely bland with zero spice, or any depth of flavour at all. I was expecting green peppers in it as described, but there were none. The lamb was a bit chewy too. Chicken tikka starter was pretty tasty with at least some flavour and a good amount of onions, but the 'mint' yoghurt sauce it came with tasted of nothing - not even a hint of mint. The side of Saj Bhaji was just ok but again lacked any real flavour. I ordered a garlic nan but it tasted very much like a plain one. Friendly service ordering over the phone and the delivery guy was very polite, but overall the food was sadly disappointing.

A little bit pricey but worth it as the curries were great. Sauce had the right thickness and were substantive, aromatic and flavourful.

Unfortunately our delivery took almost 2 hours to arrive last night despite being ordered at 18.50. They should have been honest and said they could not full fill the order as they were busy. The offer of a free popadom does not suffice. Very disappointing as it disrupted our evening. It’s great you’re busy however please look after your customers. I had paid in advance over the phone so not a lot I could do.

My family and I have been using the Tulsi for years now, I can honestly say we haven’t had a bad takeaway meal from here. Extremely nice people, very polite and great service always. Five Stars, we look forward to our next takeaway. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Never been here before, ordered a chicken pathia which should be sweet and sour,and quite spicy,but it was none of these,very boring,no taste,no heat,more like a chicken casserole,never again,very disappointed.

Delivery came promptly and the food was hot, generous portions and tasty. Highly recommended.

Quite the best Indian meal I have had in a long time :) It was lovely; spicy tasty and, most importantly NOT swimming in grease.

We plan to have take away food and thought to get in Tulasi but for takeaway restaurant the price is equal to dine in. Prices for Nan and paratha they are charging £ 3.40 which is very expensive and size is not so big and average chapati size. We spent £18 one curry and three bread-kemma paratha . I believe if they revised the prices they will get more customers because definitely I will not got second time to buy the food it is not worth to spend. We order lamb tikka rogan, Curry is average taste and lamb is not soft and not cooked well. To be honest we felt the it taste like onion and tomato curry. My rating for this restaurant 3/5

The food was amazing! Really tasty, spicy, definitely cooked from scratch (which so many Indian restaurants don't seem to do anymore). Would highly recommend it.

Very disappointed. Tried this place for the first time. Chicken tikka masala was lacking flavour and had a strange texture. What a shame, I had high hopes this would be my new curry house - unfortunately not.

We always use these guys for a Friday night take out. Very quick service, good tasty food and polite delivery people. We did try a different place one night, in Patcham, cold food, watery food and slow delivery.

I have quite honestly been coming here for the last 10 years as it’s my local takeaway and it’s probably the best takeaway Indian I’ve ever had! The food is well priced and incredibly delicious, the portion sizes are good and the staff are really friendly when getting your food delivered or picking it up! I really recommend this takeaway and wouldn’t go anywhere else when ordering in Hove!

Such a brilliant experience here, the food was delicious and came very quickly. We were served by two lovely ladies Molly and Kelly. They were so friendly and treated us like family. Myself and my friends felt so comfortable and the lights in the restaurant were beautiful. Would highly recommend for any type of dinner.

Usually use Hove Tandoori, but just moved and thought I try local. Won't be going back to Hove Tandoori if only a few of their dishes are as good as my lamb pathia with Bombay potatoes.

We had a takeaway delivered from Tulsi Tandoori this weekend as our usual Indian takeaway had gone downhill the last few months. The Ceylon Curry was spicy (as required) but really tasty & didn't leave you unable to taste anything else. The Tandoori Chicken was also really good. The Poppadums we're the best ever and not at all oily. It was great quality, great tasting food. We'll definitely order from here again.

A friend Mark bought me a curry from Tulsi Tandoori yesterday the quality of the food was brilliant can definitely reccomend this restaurant if you want a delicious curry. Will definitely be purchasing from Tulsi Tandoori again!!!!

I really like Indian food, but this place wasn’t good…

Always absolutely delicious food from here , hot and so tasty, bread, rice,and curries were so so good, we over paid the delivery man by a pound and 2 mins later he knocked to bring it back!!! Obviously we told him to keep it as it was part of a tip, but we thought this was so sweet of him, best Indian around

King prawn puri tasteless, Biryani was mush and tasteless. The whole meal was awful although hot in arrival so not a delivery issue. Just all the food was horrible.

Just had an amazing chicken tikka biriyani, well done tikka with a few green chillies, and with the rice I can see the care taken in the cooking, waiting is the only downside. Definitely see you again soon. Syed

Finally!!!! An Indian takeaway that everyone in the house likes - even the notoriously picky tarka Dahl enthusiast. Good choice of dishes, food arrived in good time , was nice and hot and smelled fantastic. We had a range of veggie and meat dishes and everything was spot on. This is now our go-to Indian takeaway and will be a regular destination from now on.

I had a really good veggie curry from here it's well priced and the staff are really nice too. Definitely worth a try 😉

Simple: the best Indian take away in town

Absolutely amazing, always have the king prawn madras with my partner having chicken tikka and mushroom Baji..... honestly so beautiful that most weekends we have it both Fri and Saturday. Friendly service, food always the same high standard. Love, love love this place

Ordered from here a few times lovely jubbly food you got to try the Chicken Dansank and special Nan! Though they must not have paid the phone bill as mailbox is full will have to order from Shaan Tandoori tonight need me a curry

I can honestly say that was the best curry and the best service I have ever had. The guy who delivered was so sweet and nice. He turned up with such a smile .

I only ever order off Deliveroo and it can sometimes take a while, but it's worth the wait. We both always have a dhansak, so can't comment more widely than that, but it's as good as any I've had. Highly recommended

Very tasty food, Peshwari Nan is my favorite and it never disappoints. Chicken Biryani is one of my favourite dishes and it comes at a good price too as it is served with a side dish.

It's spotlessly clean with an open kitchen. The food is great and the staff go out of their way to help. I like a really mild curry, so ordered a chicken Tikka massala, which is rich and creamy with big chunks of tender chicken.

Great food at a great price, quick service and very polite counter staff.

They make amazing food and are really nice people. The customer service here is outstanding - when talking on the phone they are polite and positive and they always hold the door when I'm leaving. I recommend anyone in the area to try it out. The food is absolutely amazing and they often give away free food and drink gifts. I go here often and will continue to do so because this is an excellent takeaway.

Not a lot of flavour and lamb not cooked for long enough. On this occasion unfortunately it was a pretty poor experience

ordered at 17.15p.m received a text saying would receive at 18.20 at which time i received a call saying they were running late so would be 5-10 mins food arrived at 18.40 I would not mind but we live within a mile Food was disappointing my husbands dish was tasty but cold and my chicken biriany was also stone cold . Vegetable curry was the only hot dish and it was totally tasteless y ou usually get a mint sauce and salad but none of this . Shame

We have used this takeaway for a couple of years and recently it has gone very down hill, last night we had 2 items of our order missing, no offer of them bringing them and when I asked I was told next time we would get them free (even though they were paid for tonight so not really free 😢but we needed them last night not next time.. also the naan bread we pulled it apart to start eating it and a load of flour fell out and dry ingredients, extremely disappointed

Service very very slow, food cold, not very happy. Not cheap either. Rang several times to see when delivery would be and kept being told ten minutes.

I would strongly recommend not to order here for delivery! Been waiting 2+ hours and the delivery address is only 10 minutes away! This was supposed to be for a birthday meal! Avoid.

As ever Tulsi always delivers top quality tasty food. I love the biriyani and madras curry. They also add a free veg dish and poppodoms if you spend over a certain amount. Delivery is always on time.

There's was very little flavour and meat. One of the dishes I ordered was a king prawn Korma. The sauce was really pale, had hardly any flavour and there was virtually no king prawn, just a few cut up tasteless pieces. Both me and my son had an upset stomach for the next 24hrs. Really disappointing for what is supposed to be a 'treat'.

Staff can't be bothered, rude to customers and overpriced. Food is, to be fair quite good but the people yof have to deal with leave a sour taste in your mouth.

We got a takeaway from here, they got our orders wrong. The food was stone cold & the meat was very pink inside. We certainly won't be using them again.

Pedimos una dansak de pollo, cebolla bhaji's, naan keema extra y arroz a 5,43 h. Me dijeron que teníamos que esperar orden en 45 minutos. Después de llamar dos veces para preguntar si el orden era, la comida nos salió a las 7.30 pm, casi completamente frío sin más arroz incluido, que después de un mayor llamada, llegamos a 7,45 pm también frío.

La mejor comida asiática, estado yendo desde que abrió sus puertas y nunca me ha decepcionado, estupendo personal, cocina abierta, como vino todos pasaron tiene sabor diferente pero para mí Tulsi éxitos el lugar

We ordered a delivery take-away.Had to wait 90mins before having to call them and ask where our food was. Neither knew and no helpful info given. Another 60mins went by and then arrived after 10pm,by which it was too late. No apology forthcoming, will never use them again.AVOID or place your order a day in advance!

So I've been using this place on and off since it opened (many years ago) and my family use it very regularly. Normally it's fantastic. However this evening I was really disappointed. We ordered for delivery and told it would be within the hour. 1 hour 30 mins later it turns up. ITS STONE COLD. We had to microwave it. I had my usual which was tasteless and salty. It was basically a pot of oil. My partners tasted okay so carried on whilst I rang Tulsi back. They said they would send another, no apology and thirty minutes later the same tasteless dish turns up, but at least it was warm. It went straight in the bin. 25 quid and still hungry...never again! They mentioned having over 50 orders queuing and maybe this would account for why the quality dropped. Stay away on Saturdays!!!

The food portion size is great it actually fills the container whereas most Indian takeaways only usually half fill them so its very good value for money! Its very very tasty & the delivery time is good. This is the best Indian take away I have had for years and I have been through a few in the hove & portslade area !

We've been using this take-away for a number of years which tells you that we like it - normally. The last couple of times though the food has been a bit bland with a lack of spicy bite in the mains. Last night my partner and me both had what should have been fairly spicy dishes. Neither, unfortunately, had any spice at all resulting in two completely different bland tasting dishes which left us feeling a bit frustrated. We'll give it one more go and hope that these recent experiences were temporary blips.

This takeaway has been at the bottom of my road since I can remember. I've not been in years but last night grabbed a quick chicken tikka masala and some nan bread and was amazed at the portion size! Not only that it was pretty tasty too. A little bit hotter than I remember it ever being, but still, fantastic value!

We love Tulsi Tandoori! Have been regulars for 10 years now and it has never disappointed us! Lovely food and service! Thank you!
