Ashoka in Brighton and Hove

It's very hit and miss here, sometimes it's the best curry ever other times it's just really mediocre

I had an excellent experience at Ashoka. The food was very tasty. They offered a great variety of dishes, there's something for everyone. Trust me, you'll love it there. Also their service is excellent. I'll visit again whenever I come to Brighton. Cheers!

The best curry in Brighton! Been coming here for years and it’s consistently tasty food with Friendly attentive service and the most delicious dal and chilli nans I’ve ever had.

Food is amazing, we ordered a lot of different things suggested on my flavour palette. Staff are very friendly. Have gone back 2 times and will go back again!

Mixed starter contained some kind of offal. Possibly kidney but not sure. Certainly wasnt what was claimed. The lamb balti was decent but a bit too sweet for me. Good portion size and came with salad. Tarka dall was more of a dall soup but was tasty

Excellent food and service. Booked a table for 6 came in and was all ready set for us. Brilliant waiters accommodated us so well. Food was perfect. I will definitely come here again. 10/10

So walked in and was told table not ready,be 10 minutes, then came back and changed to 20 mins.Said we could stand at bar have drinks, but still wanted us to pay for them so we ended up going next door to Ganges and from the start service was amazing and food excellent every meal cooked to perfection. So just to let you all know will never return to ASHOKA shocking way to treat customers

Appalling service!! We arrived for a dinner reservation which was booked for 8 people at 8pm to meet up with friends who were visiting from Australia. We were on time but our table was already occupied. The waiter was unapologetic & told us to come back in 20mins. We got the impression they couldn't care less. Not what we were expecting. Luckily we left & went to another indian restaurant called Ganges next door who couldn't have been more accommodating & the food was amazing. Shame on you Ashoka, we will not be visiting again,

A simply lovely place to go for a curry..I had a balti which I thoroughly enjoyed with authentic Indian music in the background and friendly staff this is a good place to go for a curry in Hove xx

Ordered a delivery and was disappointed. Bland, tasteless and my king prawn biryani was burnt!

First visit here for a couple of years but the food and service was very good here, as it has always been. Not too busy, but that's to be expected for a Tuesday evening especially with football on the TV. Recommended.

The very best quality Indian food you’ll get - consistent every time. The chef here is clearly very experienced and refined their dishes to perfection. Highly, highly recommended.

The positives: chilli masala was hot and tasty. The Tandoori chicken in the korma curry was lovely. Onion bhaji’s were spot on, crispy, flavourful. Negatives: chicken korma sauce was overly sweet and splitting. The sag aloo lacked any flavour at all. The peshwari nan bread had a lovely flavour but was very small, the size of a small pitta bread. None of the dishes came with rice which hurt the value for money - all of the dishes lacked any real punch. Overall: pricey and underwhelming. 2.5/5

I ordered a take away korma and rice i started eating and noticed a watery liquid in the bottom of the bowl, this put me off I called and they offered a replacement I didn't want to have another curry from the Ashoka I packed the curry back up so they could collect and see for themselves. Annoyed they didn't offer a refund and basically made out I wasn't telling the truth.

I was really looking forward to trying Ashoka but was sadly disappointed. We ordered for a late dinner. The food was bland, not spicy enough, and felt overpriced for the portions. Also arrived cold. Perhaps I need to eat in.

Very dry and burnt onion bahjee's I have ordered from here many times but always seem to be over fried. No seasoning in the food.Always have to add more salt and pepper. Plus no flavour to the food (spice wise)

Weakest chicken tilkka masala I have ever ordered. Food was with driver for 20 minutes so wasn't particularly hot.

This was our favourite but never again. Everything was bland. Absolutely no taste. Such a disappointment. No depth, no flavour, nothing. Sad.

A great curry. The Chicken Shaslik (sic) was fantastic, as was the Keema Nan, Sag Bhaji, and the rice, of course. A little bit pricey, but it was a great evening out and friendly people. Well done.

Really lovely Veg curry and Lamb Biryani but onion bahjee's VERY hard.Would buy from Ashoka again but not the Bahjees.

Lamb Biryani and vegetable curry was excellent but the Bahjee's were rock hard and nearly broke my teeth.

Previously had a great curry from here, but this time it was disappointing. The motor paneer in particular was very poor and did not taste nice, and the CTM had crunchy vegetables in it which was not expected.

Love the Ashoka, always had a good time there and good food. The staff are very nice and always remember me even though I only go maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Also, unusually for an Indian restaurant, they sell bottled ale, which is important for me on a special night out

I met three friends for a meal whilst our wives met at another restaurant nearby. I couldn't fault the place. The food, service and atmosphere were excellent.

The people are fantastic, the vibe is great, but the food is a little bland; I got a fish curry and had to ask for a spicier sauce. Fish was a little overcooked, and even with the extra heat, the depth of the flavours just wasn't as deep as I'd like. Overall, unless you're British and prefer a more bland meal, I might avoid this place solely based on the food, everything else was perfect.

Terrible food. The worst curry I’ve ever eaten. Tasteless, dry chicken, over cooked King prawns. I will never, ever order from The Ashoka again.

Vindaloo was very nice but the onion Bhaji’s were over cooked and appeared as if they had been reheated

last 2 orders have been really good. last nights was very disappointing could just taste powder . we find this typically happens with curry T/away starts off great then goes downhill

Went here for a close friends leaving Dinner, the guys are always amazing.. service was great the food was great and the company was good. The starters I had garlic mushrooms and this was lovely and the salad on the side was lovely. For my main I had the tandoori mixed grill this came piping hot a a sizzler plate was so delicious I had this with the garlic naan and that was beautiful. Dessert I had the mint ice cream and it was divine.. it’s a must visit. Everyone else had a variety of curries and rices it was all really good.

We have come to Ashoka’s for years and love it. The Paragoan chicken, Bahar chicken and chicken Almashriki are our favourite mains. Super delicious. We always have good service and return regularly.

2nd time here and was impressed as first time, food was really good. Service was brilliant and prices were reasonable.

Fortunately remembered to order Popadoms this time (WARNING: unlike other outlets who give freebies to big spenders, these guys DON'T!!). Food was good as usual and was enjoyed much more this time round. Will definitely continue visiting albeit just occasionally.

I would contend that Ashoka is not only one of the best Indian restaurants in Brighton, but Probably one of the best in the country. The chefs here really are a cut above. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, wonderful ambience, all in all a beautiful restaurant. I highly recommend.

Just perfect, although I totally forgot that they don't give free poppadum like most other similar eateries - even for 3-figure sum orders! Must make a note to order them next time!!!

Gave it 2 stars because of sharp practices by waiter.Chutneys and poppadoms were placed on our table without being ordered, we thought they were free but checked, only to find out we were going to be charged for them. Curry was delicious but rice portions were tiny.

I’ve been many many times and I’ve never found any issues with service or the food. My friends come down to Hove often and we always go to Ashoka, I always ask if they’d like to try somewhere new and we never do. Says it all really.

Please guys, do't get fooled by Indian name. This restaurant I found after 2 hours of rigorous search in brighton to have good food. The food is no where in line with any indian dishes. No salt, no taste at all. Think of this restaurant as if they are serving British food in Indian restaurant for keep locals happy since i noticed a lot of local people(not indians) eating curries and chips while we were unable to gulp anything. Indian songs, indian pictures were beautiful though.

Always though Ashoka was v good but food was very poor, overcooked king prawn, lacking in flavour and heat from Spice. Wouldn’t order from here again I’m afraid.

Really disappointed with our order, it was lukewarm, and tasted of nothing. I have never had to season an Indian before but I had to. They also missed out items from our order. Extremely overpriced, £11 for a passanda with no rice, and with no flavour. We rang the restaurant, they weren't apologetic at all or particularly polite on the phone. We will not be ordering from here again.

Dined in as a group of four. Everyone was very satisfied with the food and the service was very swift, however we did come in whilst it was quiet. A few issues with quality of the service stop me from giving 5 stars. Would still recommend based on the great taste of their dishes.

I have come here for years now, my family eats Christmas dinner here every year, the food is great, the people are lovely, I can't recommend it enough.

The taste of the food is rubbish I don't recommend it at all

Lovely food arrived hot and fresh. A lot of the oils and juices from the food had spilled but all contained with in the bag, so not a major problem. Delicious.
