Try Thai in Manchester

One of my favourite Thai restaurants, service is efficient, the food is good, love the soft shell crab. The interior and toilets could do with an upgrade.

Absolutely dreadful manners from staff. My child was still eating, yet they started clearing the table. No cutlery provided until asked. Ordered chicken spring rolls, provided veggie ones not once but twice even after been told. Asked for cutlery, she just dropped it on the table. Mains were cold. Starters were actually ok. Asked about service charge, the rude waitress asked ‘why what’s your problem?!’ Told her I’m not paying for rubbish service, she slammed my card and started speaking in her language to the staff and laughing. Disgusting behavior and managers. Do not go here.

The food here was nice! Not remarkable, no risks or anything adventurous to be found. But they do some traditional Thai dishes well and there is something for everyone here. It is very much to their namesake, Try Thai!

Great place ! Defiantly recommended the sweetcorn cakes as a starter and the Thai milk tea - lovely staff and even lovelier food! ขอบคุณ 💛

Went for my stag do and were very accommodating. Food was delicious, nice and spicy and having now had Thai food in Thailand on my honeymoon this was just as good as the real thing!

A variety of Thai dishes to choose from, we had the green curry, pineapple fried rice, 3 flavour beef, curry prawns, mussels, tom yam, morning glory. They were efficient and quick to serve even though it was peak hour of between 730 to 8pm, we were 8 persons, didn't have to wait long.

Slow service and food was expensive for what we got. Ordered tofu in one of the dishes and it was fried to a crisp. We ordered two main dishes and the second dish didn’t come for ages. Waited for so long that we ended up sharing the first dish and nearly ate it all before the second arrived. Really disappointing experience.

Great place to eat and suitable portion sizes. It does get quite loud and booking is vital otherwise you can’t ever get inside. Hygiene is a concern, I found a small hair in the jasmine rice and I’ve seen this is a frequent issue.

Horrible food with watery curry. Horrible staff, no manners and not accommodating at all. We have had thai food all over the country and we know how it should be. They try to tell us that we are wrong. And served us very very water like green curry. Not worth it to argue with them. Would never go back. They all Should not be in service industry.

The clue is in the name - so I tried it! This is the first Thai meal I’ve eaten in Manchester so I did a bit of Googling before deciding on TT. Nestled in Chinatown, TT is a well-established joint run by friendly servers. The menu offers Thai classics which, we tucked into. The chicken satay skewers were the winner. The fish cakes were good however the pork belly was a little over cooked for my liking. The beef red curry and chicken green curry both were tasty and spicy. Sticky rice and Singha beers to accompany. All in all, good but not remarkable.

Unfortunately had a very negative experience. My friend and I ordered from here through UberEats. There was a short dark hair inside the rice container. This was obviously alarming and should’ve just stopped eating, but thought I’d at least eat my vegetable curry. At the bottom of the container there was a small piece of chicken. The presence of the hair had already made me feel queasy and I ended up being sick (don’t think it was food poisoning! Was just pretty revolted at that point!). We tried multiple times to flag this on UberEats and sent photographs of the hair and piece of chicken, but didn’t even receive a refund for our £30 order. I’m not sure how this could have happened, and recognise that sometimes it’s just bad luck or a mistake, but it was really concerning and very unpleasant.

Been coming to Try Thai since it opened many years ago - its one of those rare places where the food and service quality are always at the same (high!) level - would highly recommend to anyone.

Service was a little slow but the food was nice.

Tried the happy hour 2 course menu on Tuesday. The portion was generous and we could not finish all. It tasted good and not too spicy as I had expected. Staff are friendly and responsive. Would recommend it.

I ordered grilled pork noodle soup and Thai milk tea. Taste good but not the taste in Thailand.

Pad Thai was nice and stir fry noodles with barely any noodles was way too spicy. All the waiters seem to suffer from severe depression as they had no life in them left. Aged 3 years while waiting for a) get served b) get the bill c) get the change and probably could’ve left without paying; They kind of forgot about us, alongside with everyone else in the restaurant. The pair next to us were essentially yodelling for attention from the waiters. Overall food was okay but the service was slobbery.

The food and service were good. The atmosphere depended to the location.

Booked in advance for Happy Hour meal pre- theatre. Food was excellent and was surprised that there was a great atmosphere too.

Really good Thai restaurant! Generous portions and incredible flavours - would definitely recommend. We had the green curry with vegetables and the try Thai mango crispy sea-bass. Have been back since and had an equally great experience!

Food was ok, service was a little slow and the staff didn't seem too happy. Overall an average experience.

Love this place!! Delicious dishes every time and service is impeccable. It was my good friends birthday which I am sure I didn't note on the booking, but what a lovely surprise to receive birthday cake and a candle at the end of our meal. Amazing place, big thank you!

Five star top notch authentic Thai food, but service bit lacklustre. As long as your expectations are pitched accordingly then absolutely well worth a visit. Will definitely return myself.

Beautiful food and staff friendly

Lovely authentic Thai food made fresh everything. I can recommend the papaya salad and pad thai, yo can customise the papaya salad with more chilli and fermented fish sauce so it is how it is in Thailand! The staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is nice too.

If you have or haven't been to Thailand, this is the place to taste the food from there. Outstanding and very attentive service. Very busy with the Q outside.

I ordered the crispy pork chili paste and sweet basil stir fry with egg fried rice as a side dish. The food was delicious! The pork was crunchy and the sauce was so flavorful it took me back when I went to Thailand last year. The service was good. I would have given 5 stars but they gave me a wrong bill which they corrected anyway when I called it out. It was not really a big deal but it’s just me being picky. The atmosphere was definitely Thai. I loved the interiors with Thai decors!

Went on a monday evening as a walk in, by and it was packed! Really nice food, with excellent service and great atmosphere.

we had luch at Try Thy, i was really looking forward to eat there. but got dissapointed. Pad thai with chicken was worst i have ever had, with shrimps which tasted that they have PAST theyr fresh time ,didnt even finish the meal…other meals were ok,but from Thai restaurant I would expect more flavours.

Great choice on the menu and reasonably priced for a city centre restaurant. The annoying thing is they put a 15 percent service charge on the bill and some customers may not notice that and I feel for 4 people eating you choose if you are paying a tip not the company. I would eat there again

(Small portion with rice and noodles but toppings are a large potion (3.5:6.5) Ratio ) Price is reasonable and semi pricey. Depends If you are fancy a low carbs meal, if so this is a place for you. Very small portion of main like rice and noodles and toppings are relatively much larger in a ratio 3.5:6.5 (Main: Toppings) Services are good very friendly and helpful.

I have been today to Try Thai with husband and my 2 years old baby. The food was amazing and the service outstanding!

Nice restaurant, the service is quick, the plates delicious in the china town in the center of Manchester we recommend.

Staff were happy to let us in at 20:30 even when the kitchen was about to close at 21:00; last round of drinks was served at 21:30 yet we were able to leave by ourselves towards 22:00. Of course, they were cleaning around us, but there was no hurry, and the atmosphere was friendly. Oh yes, and the food was nice! too!

It should be oke, but we were four families, 20 pax together and was charged for boxes to go. if we were 5 pax asked 7 boxes you could charge, but we were 20 pax.

Ordered initially a beef dish and vegetable. But then later told the waitress to change the beef to pork. Order came wrong still as beef and the waitress insisted we changed to a vegetable pork dish. Common sense is for the change of the beef dish to pork. They refused to change the dish. Service poor.

Had a brilliant birthday at TryThai. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff that were on top of everything even when the restaurant was fully booked. Most importantly the food was absolutely amazing. Best Thai food I’ve tried and not too expensive either. I highly recommend this place if you want a great experience

Het eten was oké, niet speciaal.. Het was lekker, beetje weinig, maar wel goed qua prijs. De sfeer was heel druk, er was veel lawaai en weinig rust.

Interesting selection of Thai dishes, and great presentation. In terms of the quality of dishes, there is room for improvement. But I would definitely visit again!

Enjoyable atmosphere and service. Try Thai offers a good range of Thai dishes. We used to go regularly for the lunch menu, but visited more recently in the evening. They have kept the same standard for many years and are positioned in a good central location in Manchester's China Town.

Food is great! Pricey though as curries come without rice and you need to order them separately. Starters are also on the higher end for the prices but they taste good! Service is fantastic! Very attentive, friendly and lovely servers. The atmosphere is good but bit noisy as well.

Best Thai restaurant in Manchester. Been 3 times now. Staff always smiling and friendly. Prices are mid to high but portions and quality of food is excellent each time we have been.

Staff no friendly and no manner. I just ask for my drink can served first or not ? But staff ( short hair girl) she just raises her voice to me say “ you have to waiting for bar! Can or not ? “

I don’t know who made the food but compared to how the standards used to be, this restaurant has gone down hill. It’s not authentic Thai food. It’s catered to the white palate for sure. I’m not sure if there’s a new chef because 2 years ago I would’ve recommended this restaurant. Now it’s basic and bland food. Also it took over an hour for someone to ask us for our drinks (or food) order after being seated.

It's interesting on how one of the most authentic Thai restaurant located in the middle of nowhere. The kual tieuw num tok is to die for. Cheap price and delicious food. The place is super simple and no heater in the winter, but everyone are super nice.

Unhelpful staff but good food - wouldn’t accommodate request to change a dish despite wanting a similar priced option… not everyone likes seafood! Please communicate your service expectations to your team so that they deliver your expectations. Other than that an enjoyable meal. Update 26 November 2023 Just came here, despite better judgement. Arrived & was given a lunchtime special menu at £14 per head that we were selecting from. Another waiter came over to take or order then took that menu from us and replaced with a similar menu but different times & increased price of £18 per head. This is rude & bad form - we left. If you are going to issue menus to customers at least let them order from them & abide by listed prices.

There was a waitress inside who had a arrogant and unreasonable attitude.

As much as I love to eat in there I hate their delivery. My food cost £31 And this is what I have received It is does not make any sense! I have to order my rice separately. Never order again. Never

Overall good but crispy pork belly was basically too dry. And charging for basically 2 tsps of chilli oil is not nice. I d come again but wont be my first choice

I had the red Thai curry for lunch at this Thai restaurant in Manchester, and it was absolutely delicious. It tasted just like the authentic flavors I remember from Thailand. I highly recommend it - friendly staff, delightful food, and quick service.

Received horrible service from waiters and servers Would rate lower if possible Was told there would be a student discount but upon paying was told that we couldnt remove the service charge from our bill if we're getting a student discount We were told if we were to remove the service charge we couldn't get the student discount Honestly defeats the purpose of the student discount When i requested to speak to the person in charge He was absolutely rude and would not let me speak when I was only trying to seek clarification He said and i quote " I don't care You have no choice just pay and goo" With the reasoning that it was their policy When ask to show their policy they said they did not have it Eventually a bunch of the other servers ganged up on me and my friends and were absolutely rude and yelling at me Did not receive any apology, only threats Many of the servers took turns claiming to be the "person in charge" Clearly lying and trying to deceipt me Last person that dealt with me said that the service charge is only £5 just pay and go dont make a big deal out if it The rudest and unkind service I've ever received and probably motivated because they thought we were students and we could not defend ourselves I hope the restaurant manager takes action on all the servers involved especially the first guy that claimed to be incharge the crumpled the receipts and took them away He also singled me out from my friends and told me only to not return and my friends could with alot of attitude This took place on the 7th of November 2023 on a Tuesday at 5.15 pm

Absolutely wonderful! Really enjoyed the food, the flavours and varieties in spice levels was delightful and delicious. The service also was very pleasant - we took our toddler who they adored and made him smile many times. He also loved the food! Look forward to coming here again.

Visited for the lunch meal deal. Very nice food & a good selection on the lunch menu. I had the Sweet corn cakes starter and Chili & Holy Basil fried rice main - very hot!

Good proportion of food served, quick service, loved the pineapple rice.. beef was very crunchy and full of taste.

The Thai food is so transitional and good. The only things I would like to comment is the waitresses, don know they are so busy or I’m only ordering a tape water. You will only get a cup of water after third attempts.

I had a lovely birthday here with great food, service and atmosphere and it was pretty busy. To my surprise it was happy hour so I got 2 cocktails for the price of one. They played happy birthday and brought out a slice of cake with a candle in to the delight of my 8 year old granddaughter. All in all a lovely evening.

First time visit didn't have a reservation but accommodated us ..went in at 5 pm quite busy...had Satay chicken as a starter and chicken Pad Thai as main dish very tasty...reasonably priced...would visit again

I really used to like this place. However, we've just requested to change 1 main order on the Rose banquet and been told no, even though its the same price, both are £15.95. Then when we changed it for a meal that was priced £2 CHEAPER, well that is all ok. Hmmm. NOT HAPPY. Explain to me please owners how this is the situation? Never used to be an issue. Extremely disappointed customer 😡
