The coffee at Michelle’s is not only really good but is served with lovely Vintage China mugs which seem to compliment the coffee very well. And you get a homemade shortbread biscuit too ... mine was gluten free & I didn’t even have to ask ! My partner really enjoyed a zingy lemon cake - whilst I had a gluten free black currant crumble slice.

This was my 2nd visit - came back because the coffee is so good. It’s by Red Box of Edinburgh.... a brand I’d not tried before & now I want more! Taste is a high roast but not bitter or acidic ... important if you drink it black. Comes with a delicious complementary gluten free shortbread biscuit. I also had a gluten free scone with black currant jam (other choices available). They do a loyalty scheme - so now I’m looking forward to a 3rd visit.

We were travelling down from Scotland back to Wales and we stopped at Kendal as My Mother in Law lives there. She had already suggested we go to Michelle's for lunch as she had been in the past and recommended it. Also we had our two dogs with us and could take the dogs into Michelle's as its a Dog Friendly Establishment. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by who I believe was Mark, one of the owners, who showed us the available seating. The Menu had a good selection of starters, main meals, vegetarian options and puddings along with A Specials Board all reasonably priced. If my memory is correct I think there was also a children's menu.

Michelle's is a lovely cafe on the edge of the town centre that does a range of traditional cafe food and home made ice cream. The bacon baps were delicious and the tuna sandwich came with crisps and a salad, making it a hearty meal. Tea is served in pots with at least four cups each and you get an egg timer to ensure that it brews for the right time - a nice touch. The tea is served with short cake biscuits. But the star of the show is the home made ice cream, served with sauce and biscuit fingers. Our favourite was the mint choc chip, which the owner makes with chopped After Eight mints -scrummy! Service was attentive and friendly. A nice way to spend an hour.

There are several chain coffee shops in Kendal and lots of individual ones but they don’t come better than Michelle’s. We had lunch here. There was a bit of a wait because all the food is prepared and cooked to order but Mark is prompt with the drinks and the shortbread biscuits are to die for. All the cakes and slices are home made and it doesn’t take any imagination to see that the home is that of Denise and Mark. The other clue to the fact that this is one of the best in the area is the numerous locals and regulars who are in the cafe. We’ll be back some time.

This place looks lovely inside and had such HUGE potential. The service was good and attentive but the food was of the cheapest supply possible. I understand a new business needs to make a profit but to compete with the likes of baba ganoush, two sisters, brew brothers etc, they really need to change the food they serve. People will pay more for good food. I ordered a sausage sandwich, and the sausage was a cheaper version of what you’d get in a chippy, horrid, and had me running to the loo. The bread was again, a cheap white bun. People want nice food and the culture nowadays means we pay more for it. I still see pictures of the cafe trying to promote themselves, and the food is still the same quality, cheap sausages, cheap baked beans, cheap truck style cafe sauces etc. It just can’t compete unless it ups it’s game. I don’t want to see it fail but I really feel they need to reinvent their menu and advertise locally sourced produce, good bacon, proper beans. Spend more to earn more! Until then I won’t be back.

Recommended this cafe on my first visit to kendal , by the owner of Anything Technical (was having skis + bindings+ skins fitted) just round the corner. After a friendly welcome by the owners I sat down to a really tasty bacon and egg bap with a nice hot pot of english tea served in china cups. Surveyed the menu (and the local map =£1 out the wall machine at St Abbotts car park), ordered a cake - lemon drizzle - v. nice . Could have had a Breakfast - bacon, eggs, chips, toms, or hot/cold sandwiches. Prices were very reasonable - my lot came to £7.50. Not bad considering the prices that most of the other (and there are many) eateries in kendal charge. They are open 7 days a week . A family run business . Having runa family business for 30 years, all I can say to them is ' Well done , and the best of British!'

We stopped for lunch. The lasagna my daughter ordered was almost inedible. I had goat's cheese and caramelised onion tart. It had obviously been reheated in a microwave and the pastry was soggy. The caramelised onion overwhelmed the taste of the cheese so I scraped most of it off. My friend's cottage pie was mostly potato, so overall not so much scrumptious as very disappointing. It looked nice and wasn't expensive but the best thing that can be said is that when I complained about the lasagna the lady who served us didn't charge us for it. Sorry.

Due to the trip advisor recommendation, myself & partner thought it was worthy of a visit. We ordered chicken/ mango & Turkey /cranberry sandwhiches. This was served with a small plastic pot of salad, which was colourful & decorative to the plate. The sandwich was just a tea cake! The turkey was nothing more than thin slices of reformed meat packed together & folded as you would get from the supermarket! It was also debatable whether it was Turkey or Ham. We also ordered chile crispes..... Which never arrived. The black marble type table top, was streaky & looked dirty & the menu was poorly put together in a cheap plastic cover. On the plus side, we had different coffees, both of which were pleasant but not enough hot milk served in the jug for two caffeters. The two sandwiches and two coffees came to £16.40. We felt it was rather expensive, for what it was. Just a little note, there toilet facilities, although not inside the premises, were very clean & tidy. But that won't be encouraging us back for a coffee & sandwich

Came here with my partner for breakfast the other day. Looked amazing from the outside but as we entered I felt like stepping into a little Chinese restaurant sort of place. The pink walls were a bit intimidating, the black fan on the ceiling was completely out of place and the cafe was just packed with things. It was a bit too much considering how small this place already is. The staff seemed polite but not once did we get a smile and to be honest I did not feel very welcome. My partner loved the poached eggs with smoked salmon on toast but I thought it was quite average. Also, I did not really get the decoration on the plate - a piece of lettuce with a slice of radish in the middle, surrounded by the salmon. In my opinion, if you decorate your plate, then come up with an original idea or don't do it at all. Less is more. Also, as I was cutting my food, the plate would move due to the smooth, slippery surface of the table. Not very comfortable. On the front of the menu it said something along the lines of "welcome to our new menu 2011". They could at least update that. Our table wasn't very clean and I thought the cutlery and tea pots felt a little greasy. Will not be coming back. I just think that if you want to run a unique little cafe/tea house then at least do it properly.

Needed a refuel on a big bike ride and this was the first place I encountered after taking the ferry over Windermere.I arrived about 1.30 in the afternoon and asked if a full Cumbian Breakfast was still possible, which duly turned up about 10 minute so so later - excellent quality 2 each of sausage, bacon, black pud (just small quantity perfect for me), poached eggs, toast and mushrooms, plus beans came in ramekin which kept them piping hot. Perfect. I received good service had my bike bottles filled up and got back on my way feeling ready to complete the ride.Great value, service and quality.

Can't recommend this place enough. Stopped here on the way into Windermere and so glad we tried this cute looking cafe.Best tasting (and most reasonably priced - i'd put your prices up if I made food as good as that??) meal i've had anywhere, seriously worth a visit if you're ever anywhere near.Shame the place is fairly small-medium sized as the quality of the food/service I'd say it could fill out a much bigger cafe!

This is a real gem. We stopped for brunch on our way to the Scottish Borders having read previous Trip advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We had the full Cumbrian breakfast and the poached eggs were exceptional and definitely competition for any 5 star hotel. Our only disappointment was to find that they were closed on our return journey on Easter Monday! Will definitely call in again when we pass by.

A lovely cafe with fab food. We stopped in for breakfast and it was lovely local produce. Even a glass of tap water came in its own bottle at no extra cost. Attention to detail very evident

Stopped for a late lunch and had a truly superb meal for an almost ridiculously cheap price. You have to give this a try. Can tell the husband & wife owner of this place take huge pride in the quality of the food and would recommend it to absolutely anyone.

We visited here for a Saturday lunch after seeing reviews on TA and were really pleased we did. The food was all as it says on the sign - Truly Scrumptious! Delicious-sounding choices on the specials menu, we chose the squash and pea risotto, and the pork and apple sausages with mash. Everything was presented very nicely and really yummy - my partner wanted to ask for more sausages! The salad that my risotto came with was also very varied and tasty. We both had hot chocolate drinks, which were really rich, creamy and chocolately. We thought the prices were very good - restaurant standard food at lower prices than they would charge. The decor is cheery and has a shabby-chic retro feel, and the service was friendly and quick. We will definately go back next time we're in Kendal. Highly recommended.

Amongst all the lovely places to eat in Kendal this is a wee gem. Pleasant staff, prompt service, lovely baking and tea, good menu and reasonable prices. Even the toilet has the WOW! factor! - Discreetly tucked up in the adjoining yard it is clean and bright and very PINK! Hope to return on my next visit to The Lakes.

My husband and I popped into this lovely little cafe and once again were not disappointed. He had a huge freshly baked scone and homemade jam. I had cake. Both were excellent quality, someone can certainly bake! Good quality coffee was also served. Will definitely be going back.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.
