We had booked a table for dinner here and were left sitting there for 1h 30mins before receiving our food including being asked to swap tables to make room for further guests who then received their food before us. Multiple tables around us had been waiting 2h and left without getting fed. Food itself was average and a bit small on the portion sizes.

This was easily the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had. We arrived at 6:45. Waited 30 minutes to order - nobody came despite my repeated efforts to get their attention. Went to the “bar” to order, only to wait another 15 minutes. Unfortunately this was only the beginning of our wait time. After (finally) ordering food at 7:30, we were told it would be a 30/35 minute wait. At 8:15 we asked how much longer the food would be. We were told the waitress would check, she did not. We tried to get her attention several times after that, but were continually ignored. After over an hour of waiting for the food we decided to leave. I am APPALLED by the behaviour of the staff and how we were treated. No apology, no communication, nothing. I genuinely cannot believe I spent almost 2 hours waiting for food that never arrived, and not even a “sorry” could be mustered. A disgrace. Staff repeatedly told lies to new tables about the wait time. We made friends with other tables in the restaurant over a shared disgrace of the situation. Nobody could believe just how awful it was.

Unfortunately I would have to leave a negative review as I had to wait 30 mins to be served the appetizer. And 45 mins to be served the main dish. Good food nonetheless.

Wish I could rate Tribe with more than 5 stars. Food was excellent but the service was amazing with super chilled and relaxed atmosphere .

We recently moved to Oxford and were searching for a great Indian restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. After reading positive reviews, we decided to try Tribe—and it absolutely lived up to the hype! 1. The food was incredible, with superb quality and generous portions. 2. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so it’s best to reserve a table in advance during peak times. We went on a weekday evening and were able to get a table easily. 3. St. Clement’s car park is just a short 2-minute walk away, which made parking convenient. We had a wonderful evening and highly recommend giving Tribe a try! We’re certain you’ll have a great time too. Big thanks to Rohit, the owner, and Chef Gill for making our night special!

Favourite restaurant in Oxford now. We've been several times, including with friends & family, always delicious. Recommend the paneer, Uttapa and Parotta especially - yum. It's a really nice touch that they provide a few 'palete cleanser' type bits between, including crackling granita! Service always with a smile and you feel very well looked after

Tried this joint in Oxford and the food, service and ambiance - all enjoyable! Ordered set dosa, lamb, parotta, paneer makhani, butter chicken and chole. The chole had a tinge of smokiness to it and all the flavors in all the curries were really good!! The lamb, for folks who ate it, was considered hard and chewy! The mango lassi was yum and not overly sweet. The menu has standard items and limited choices but looks like all those were perfected!

Fantastic food and service. We were a party of 14 and were looked after very well. The food was incredible!!

We had been there for dinner and ordered Uttapam, Set Dosa with chutney (1£ was charged for the chutney that too for a very small portion) and surprisingly the coconut chutney was served hotter than Dosa. When asked the waitress, she was completely clueless and said it could have been microwaved. Uttapam and set Dosa were ordinary. However, paneer starter was delicious. A small request to the restaurant that when they knew they were out of chutney they should inform the customers before serving Dosa. Not recommended for South-Indian food.

Food was delicious but we had to wait a very long time for our main course. It's a good place to go if you are not very hungry when you arrive.

We shared a very magical Evening and though we only ordered one main each there were so many lovely appetisers offered to us and lovely restaurant and comfortable atmosphere friendly and delicious and not Crazy expensive. Worth a special time again on Cowley Road Joolz

The food was yummy and delicious to crave when you miss the spice and taste of Indian cuisine. We tried some of the items (given in photos) and all of those were mouthwatering to grab again.

Terrible, terrible servicio - no volverá. Asistimos a Tribu con una reserva para 4 personas. Estábamos sentados rápidamente y el servidor tomó nuestro pedido de comida y bebidas. Y entonces... la comida simplemente nunca llegó. Otras mesas iban y venían, y a pesar de las repetidas consultas con nuestro servidor sobre el estado de nuestra comida nunca llegó. Cada 15 minutos aproximadamente nos traían un pequeño mini aperitivo para aplacar / retrasarnos. Cada vez, el servidor nos dijo que la comida estaría fuera en cinco o 10 minutos. Después de c. 90 minutos sentados les dijimos que nos íbamos y que pagaríamos nuestras bebidas. En este punto, el servidor comenzó a discutir con nosotros y nos dijo que no nos fuéramos, etc. y que a pesar de sus mentiras anteriores durante los 45 minutos anteriores, la comida supuestamente realmente venía esta vez. Nunca nos presentaron nuestra comida o una factura, así que dejamos caer un billete de 10 libras sobre la mesa y salimos. Terrible, terrible service - will not return. We attended Tribe with a reservation for 4 people. We were seated quickly and the server took our order for food and beverages. And then… The food simply never came. Other tables came and went, and despite repeated inquiries with our server about the status of our food it never came. Every 15 minutes or so they would bring us a small mini-appetizer to placate/delay us. Each time, the server told us the food would be out in five or 10 minutes. After c. 90 minutes seated we told them we were leaving and would pay for our drinks. At this point, the server started arguing with us and told us not to leave, etc. and that despite her previous lies over the previous 45 minutes the food supposedly really was coming this time. They never presented us with our food or a bill so we dropped a 10 pound note on the table and walked out.

Such a beautiful restaurant. We loved the food, and the service was amazing-Rohit was so lovely. 10/10 recommend.

My wife and I came up from London for a short trip and tried a few local restaurants. By quite a long way, Tribe was the best experience we had, both the food and the service were exemplary, would highly recommend. First place on our list when we next visit!

I was here on Sept 15, 2024. The food was simply excellent, and tiny 'amuse bouche' surprises came between courses. Loved it.

This restaurant actually makes the effort to cook good traditional Indian food not the generic curry made in almost all other Indian restaurants in the u.k. So you might have to wait a bit longer but the food is great here. Recommended the chicken lollipop. I will probably go back here to try other dishes to make sure my review is accurate. The thali was nice but a little bit on the pricey side I would say.

Lovely food! Tasted brilliant. HOWEVER, by the time our mains had arrived after waiting a whole 1 hour and 58 minutes, which was quite excessive, tummies were truly rumbling. The array of complementary “pre-starters”, to pass the time as we waited, at first seemed rather pleasant. However, we soon saw through this charade, noticing at complimentary tidbit number 4 that the number of extra plates seemed to coincide with the duration of time spent waiting for mains to appear. As the famous Harry Truman once said, “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”. Simply improving wait times would however suffice. Of course this is not aimed at the chef, whose food was tasteful, but providing them more support may help. Once again, taste is great.

Went this evening and food was superb!! Amazing flavour and we could tell it was quality ingredients. Service was friendly and excellent and we were brought so many little appetizers and extras throughout the meal. It wasn't expensive. We would absolutely go again if we come back to Oxford. An awesome little gem of a restaurant.

we booked Tribe for a group dinner of 43 people. They booked the entire space for us. Their entire team came together to ensure the best experience in terms of their food, taste, service, and variety of food. For the whole two hours, we did not feel like we were in Oxford. Their ambience was cozy and welcoming. The owner Rohit and his team were fabulous throughout. If you are in Oxford, TRIBE is a must try. :)

I love tribe! The interiors are great with Worli paintings all over the walls. The food tastes fantastic, and has a good mix of punjabi, maharashtrian + South Indian options. Price is fairly reasonable. Definitely my favourite Indian restaurant in Oxford

Loud music, felt a draught during meal so had to keep coat on. Took 30 mins for beer to arrive and it wasn’t chilled, 40 mins for starter (a samosa) to arrive, 1 hour for main to arrive. Food was good when it came but this was too long to wait for a table of 2.

We really enjoyed our visit here. Wonderful flavourful food with fantastic service. One of the best Indian restaurants we’ve been to. The staff were vey attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed the extra little extras between each course. Can’t wait to return.

You must improve your service,we felt that your staff didn't have any experience ,although very polite but walked past our table many times without removing our empty plates We had to stop and hand it to them. Food was good but a better bread choice is needed.

Not your standard curry choices but soo worth trying. The curries are very tasty and the layered flatbread bread is delicious. Service was slow on the night we visited but Isheta did a great job to cover for the missing people. The ambiance is lovely inside with the wall paintings and fairy lights.

The food took forever to reach our table. The lady host with specs was very rude. Was not ready to understand our concern. It’s not always the money, it’s the behaviour that matters. I hope you improve your service manners.

As other reviews have said, probably not the place to eat if you are in a hurry however, presumably this because the dishes are all cooked to order and why they taste so good. I cannot wait for an opportunity to go back.

This is a lovely, cozy restaurant with fantastic food. The friendly staff brought out several surprise complimentary courses - soups, deserts, and appetizers. Nice small menu with delicious dishes, genuinely unique flavors. Will be returning.

Delicious food but def not a 4.8. Main reasons are: you have to wait 2 hrs for your food. And they need to do something about the cleanliness, everything is sticky, the floor, menus, tables, toilets.

Wow. I’ve eaten at many Indian restaurants as I’m sure a lot of us brits have and this really blew me away. Completely different experience to what the norm is. The service was fantastic , an owner that is clearly passionate about giving his customers the best, being very informative about the menu and accommodating to our needs. The food was 10/10 and I’m not just saying that! As a chef I am hard to please I don’t usually get this excited or happy about eating out because most places are bog standard! The food here was so flavourful, fresh and cared for. You can can tell the chef is passionate and proud of what he puts out. The menu was a lot smaller than most places which is great , making you try something different and be pleasantly surprised. Please please try tribe if you’re ever in Oxford, I won’t say too much, I want everyone to be as happy and blown away as I was ! We will definitely be returning!!!!!

Took kids there as last treat before term starts Excellent service and lovely touches like a little juice and a potato ball to start, some soup after starters and sorbet at the end Mango lassi was sublime. Starters very good,spicy cheese was ridiculous,as were all starters. Big fan of popcorn chicken Mains were good, favourite sag aloo and the paratta although all were excellent. FINALLY A GOOD CURRY IN OXFORD I’ve always struggled to find consistently good Indian food in Oxford. Tribe was a restaurant I hadn’t really registered existed until someone recommended it to me, and I was not disappointed. The food was brilliant, we shared the chicken achari and the lamb chettinad, both of which were full of flavour. It was a busy evening and the food took a while to come out, but we were given a couple of amuse-bouches to keep us from hunger. Really good, I’ll be back very soon!

Small, somewhat busy business. The staff is still learning a bit, I wiped the table myself, then they brought the cutlery twice, but they are trying. The food is a bit different from the classic Indian cuisine, but it's certainly interesting to explore slightly different directions, in this case I mean the origin of South India. The prices are reasonable, so if you don't mind a little cramped spaces and a higher noise level, it's definitely a nice experience.

The food is very amazing, owner is too good and understand the taste of customer. I would love to go next time. Moreover, I will never say "No" to Tribe's food.

The best curry I have had on Cowley Road. Absolutely delicious! Everything is freshly made, so takes time to prepare but it's well worth the wait.

We went to Tribe after a Birmingham friend said it was the best curry they had ever had (a solid review from a B’ham lad). Got a table near the bar at 2pm on a Saturday and as they close at 3.30 (before reopening at 5) we thought this perfect. The lovely waitress gave us a rose flavoured shot to start (on the house) then we ordered. Went for a prawn starter and two chicken dishes with aloo gobi, lemon rice and a paratha. As everything is cooked to order, it’s not quick service, but definitely worth the wait. Another diner had been to a lot of places in India and was saying how this was truly authentic. Really great food and with a bottle of wine the bill came to £69. Amazing value. Go !!!

Delicious food, fresh and hot. Service was quite slow because the restaurant was so busy - but this was only a testament to how lovely the food was.

Booked a table for 5 to celebrate a family birthday. When we arived on time for our reservation we were directed to a table for 4 and the staff offered to add a 5th seat on the spot but they had clearly not remembered our reservation. I understand my birthday may not be that important to other people, but it is to me, and I'd like to have a seat at the table I booked to celebrate my birthday with a few elderly guests... We decided to pass on the offer and get one of the other tables for 4 outside as it was a very sunny day. Out of the things that were in the drinks menu, the two we wanted were missing and we asked for something else they had as it was used as a cocktail ingredient but they said they cannot sell it to us. We've had no choice but leave. It's quite disappointing as we've heard many good things about this place and would have loved to try the food.

The food is absolutely exceptional. The smells that greet you at the door will lure you in and the flavors of your plates will make you come back. Kudos to the entire Tribe team. Just an A+++ dining experience.

Food was delicious, and arrived promptly. However After asking to pay we had to ask a second time before the bill came and then no one brought the card machine, after waiting for a while we had to go up to the staff to finally pay.

The expectations were high but tribe was most probably the worst Indian restaurant I have ever visited anywhere in the world The food was disgusting and the rice was cold ( had to send it back ) The cocktail was undrinkable and expensive the prices overall are not cheap here for the standard of food and service they provide The decor looked different to other Indian restaurants that’s the only positive I would not recommend this restaurant

I used to recommend Tribe to Oxford visitors, but I can no longer do so. They used to be slow, but now they are unbearable. We got our first starter after an hour of waiting, and it wasn't even a busy time. The server accidentally gave one of our dishes to another table and never re-made it, despite promising it was coming soon. After waiting over an hour and a half, we gave up and left. Sadly, we also had to explain what had happened twice before they removed the never-served dish from the bill. Don't get me wrong, everyone working here is kind, but they lack professionalism. I wouldn’t have written this review if the food was as good as it used to be. The lollipop chicken, one of their signature dishes, is no longer crispy on the outside and juicy inside; it tastes just like any other chicken. The parotta used to be savory and chewy, but now it’s bland and hard. The curry was alright, but it was never their strong suit. The signature dishes have lost their merit. Overall, it’s still not a terrible place to go, but I don't think it’s worth the price or the time.

Fantastic lunchtime vegetable thali great value

We ordered for Oriental Panner & Chicken and Chicken fried rice and Chicken Hakka Noodles, first of all order was delayed by 45 minutes to deliver and the food was so bad in taste it really ruined our dinner. We did order it reading the reviews and content but totally disappointed.

Restaurant very clean tidy authentic atmosphere. Food absolutely amazing really fresh proper authentic and tasty the best Indian food I have had in Oxford the food is definitely miles ahead of other restaurants comparable to Dishoom. Only reason why I wouldn’t give it 10 is because of the first half of the service we received, we pre booked on the phone for 8.45 and when we arrived we were rudely told we hadn’t booked? And then made to wait 10 minutes to be seated which was abit unwelcoming. Then we were seated and again it took a good 20 minutes to be asked if we wanted a drink etc by the rude women waiter who wasn’t welcoming and made the first half of the experience very disappointing I think this needs to be reviewed. However this was made up for by the lovely professional owner taking time to rectify this poor service by making the second half of the meal absolutely brilliant fast service and as I mentioned above amazing food. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend best Indian food in Oxford by a mile.

Seriously good. I rarely review Indian restaurants but this one is special. Some of the best food I’ve had. Great service too. We were given several different palate cleansers in between courses. All really tasty. Highly recommend.
