I can remember camping nearby with family and going to the Tredrea since the seventies. The area has remained amazingly unspoiled after fifty years, but even here change is inevitable. The Tredrea has closed and will be missed by us, good memories of having a pint with that wonderful view. I hope the area continues to change as slowly over the next fifty years to preserve this magic areabas long as possible.

The Tredrea has been permanently closed since last year unfortunately. Its a crying shame as it had the best view over Porthcothan Bay and is sorely missed as there is nothing else within at least 2 miles

Found this absolute diamond of a cafe/restaurant/bar at a time when there was very little open or available due to Covid. Super food and great friendly service with excellent views of the surrounding countryside, beach area and sea. It also has free wifi which in this vicinity is a very rare thing!!

Absolutely incredible fish and chips. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food (curry, chilli, burgers). The staff also cared that we enjoyed the food. Don’t be deceived by the decoration, it probably needs some attention, but we were outside, the view of the beach and valley difficult to beat and I would recommend.

I would never write a review unless I thought it was very bad, and this is one of those occasions. I had gammon egg and chips for £14 and hand on my heart you would get better at whetherspoons. I’m not sure how they get away with charging prices like that for abysmal food. The gammon was mostly just fat. The chips were very very undercooked, the fried egg was the only okay thing about it. I just thought you’re the only restaurant within the porthcothan area right next to a very popular beach, and you’re happy to either just serve rubbish, or the products are just really bad bought in stuff at the cheapest price. I understand you need to make a profit margin. But you can still do this without buying awful food. I really don’t like writing bad reviews but this is honestly the worst meal I’ve ever had in my life. Nice staff though and great views just wouldn’t go there for a meal next time. (If there’s a next time).

The views are the biggest selling point at the Tredrea Inn. Although outside was lovely it was pretty windy and we asked to be seated inside. The impression given was that of a youth club hall, with two tables surrounded by metal outdoor chairs. After ordering a lager shandy we returned this four times asking for lemonade to be added before the waitress finally checked the pump and realised it needed replacing. There were plenty of options to choose from, however the food was by no means impressive - semi decent pub grub. We ordered garlic bread and the chicken liver pate for starters. The pate was tasty however the garlic bread certainly had no garlic, we had three plates of it and agreed it tasted of rosemary. The vegetarian chilli main course was warm and tasty however was presented like a school dinner and the ‘Special’ of King Prawn linguini was disappointing. One of the three had only two prawns and all three plates were so small we thought we had been given starters by mistake. Although we queried this with the staff they were adamant that there had been no confusion. We left disheartened and still slightly hungry. Would return for drinks outside but not for food.

We thought the inn had closed when we approached it as the sign was overgrown and the car park was empty and looked a bit rough. However, decided to walk round the side of the pub to check and found it to be both open and bustling . There was an open fire when I went it to book, and the staff were welcoming and friendly . We paid a deposit (which is very a very reasonable request in such uncertain times) and went there the following day for my son's 26th birthday lunch. We also took my mother who is 98. They could not have been kinder and more helpful, for example when we deserted the indoor table to sit in the sun outside. The service was cheerful and very efficient and the food was excellent - hot and fresh. They brought a tray out for my mother as the table was a bit high for her and in general, I cannot fault the service or food or view in any way - it was a memorable lunch in every good way!

Called in unplanned as we came across the place whilst out for the day, sat outside for drinks with amazing views over the bay. Staff were friendly and the place seemed busy but predominantly locals as everyone seemed to know each other. Once inside for our meal the place was clean but overly appealing! It was a reasonable menu under the current climate and a little strange we had to pay for our food as we ordered it, not a big issue but a bit out of the ordinary. Once the food arrived it was very nice, all four of use cleaned our plates and a couple had desserts which again were very good. Worth calling in if your passing.

Having read the great reviews for the fish and chips at this establishment, I was extremely disappointed at being served a huge piece of fish that was nearly cold. Despite being sent back to the kitchen to be heated, it returned barely warm and unappetising. The other strange thing was the requirement that our meal was paid for before we'd received it. The very unconvincing reason was the payment machine was linked to the kitchen. I thought it was liked to the bank!. Needless to say a very underwhelming meal with no offer of recompense.

This pub was perfectly located for where we were staying but a little disappointing. A bit vacuous and lacking in atmosphere with uncomfortable tired looking metal table and chairs in a slightly cold draughty conservatory. I got the impression the food is frozen & not cooked fresh. My husband asked for the curry & we were told it wouldn’t come with rice because it would take 20 mins to cook & basically they couldn’t be bothered...??? He was happy enough to have it with chips but I didn’t think it was a descent enough excuse when it’s on the menu!! I ordered the fish & chips... everything was crispy enough but lacked flavour. My husband and I enjoyed our meals which arrived at the table after only a short wait - I had the ham, egg and chips while my husband had the double veggie burger. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals which consisted of good, wholesome food - the veggie burger was accompanied by some onion rings which was a nice addition! My ham and eggs was tasty, the only complaint if any, was that there was too much of everything - one large slice of ham would have been enough with the two eggs and generous portion of excellently cooked chips. I think it was ok value for money :)

The tradgedy of the Tredrea is that is is in the best location for a pub with fantastic views of the ocean and the Portcothan valley. It used to be a great little pub too but in recent years it has become an absolute dump. The decking overlooking the fabulous view is being allowed to rot while the inside is being filled with horrific slot machines. There’s a pool table but watch you don’t end up in the bottom left corner because you’ll be shoving your elbow into Noel Edmonds’ head as the table is boxed by an Edmonds bandit.

After walking the South West Coast Path from Padstow, we were hungry. From where we were staying, it was a further mile to walk -- down and then up. It only made us hungrier. I was delighted to learn that food was served all day, so that our arrival at 5:00 PM as ok. Spacious place with views. Friendly staff. My wife got the fish and chips (it was huge), and I ordered the vegetarian lasagna. We were both quite happy. Modestly priced. And the mile walk back to the b and b went by quickly.

Pulled in here on a very hot day for a nice cool drink. Instead of just a drink I had one of their Cheeseburgers. Let me tell you it was scrumptious. The meal also consisted of salad, chips and onion rings. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had and would thoroughly recommend you stop in here if you are passing by. Steph was behind the bar and she was very welcoming. If it's a nice day I would highly recommend sitting outside, the view is wonderful and you can see right across Porthcothan Bay. All in all a very pleasing experience.

I live in the area so I call into the Tredrea fairly regularly and I always get a warm welcome from the staff there, whether it's deserted or high season.

Last year I seem to recall giving the Tredrea a 1* review. This year I'm glad to see they've improved, but there is still a long way to go.

Whilst a little dated and certainly not somewhere to visit for a special occasion. The 'tred' can be relied upon for a good basic meal after a day at the beach.

Have been coming here for years to enjoy the views, though that used to be all it really offered. After sitting indoors in the rain on repeated visits and saying it needed to ditch the curtains and give it a coat of paint, they've done exactly that. Have heard they've now got a pizza oven but will have to wait until next year to try that. Also, WiFi signal is very good now if that's important to you

You won't find a better view and place to sit out in all of Cornwall. Just wonderful for enjoying a beer or two after a hard day fighting the waves on lovely Porthcothan beach. Food basic but fine, building could do with some TLC - but that's not really what you'rhe going for, is it?

Fantastic views from this pub over Porthcothan Bay. A great pit stop after a day on the beach. A good selection of Cornish drinks - Rattler, Tribute, Korev. We enjoy sitting outside with our children who have a play whilst we have a drink. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food but worth a visit for the view alone.

Went on Sunday early evening. A little bit anxious as the building is really tired ..but needed to eat as walking a bit of the SWCP. However, the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the views are stunning. We had fantastic weather and ate a marvellous meal outside, 2 sea bass, 1 linguini and a mushroom pasta. No need to go to 15!..Do not be put off by the building!

Went here on Saturday night and sat out in restaurant section. Fantastic views. Service was good, had the lasagne that was very nice and hubby fish and chips that was a large portion and very tasty! Better than Mr Steins! Yes simple menu and a little shabby but if you want a reasonable easy meal with great views then would recommend it! We will be back!

I ordered baked cod and my personal preference would just be simple, - cod in herb butter with a handful of new potatoes glazed in butter and maybe a few carrots and peas. The cod was fine but I don't think many people would have been fussed by the pounds of unseasoned, unglazed veg. I wasted most of it which I don't love me to do. But it just wasn't tasty.

An ok dinner experience was brought down by the general manager being a little too sharp with ‘jokes’, complaining about hours worked and lack of staff and being too busy, felt like we were a burden and not paying guests. Food was good, nothing out of this world. Restaurant felt a bit like a function room. View was amazing but you cant see if from the restaurant except for a few tables on one side.

Stopped off here for a couple of portions of chips for lunch. They were absolutely delicious. Piping hot and with salt and vinegar on as that's what I asked for. I cannot wait to come back here again when we revisit in April.

We hired a beautiful field on the Cornish cliffs with the most spectacular views. So lucky to have found such a hidden gem for our perfect wedding venue. Absolutely wonderful owners and extremely helpful. Could not have had a better day! Thankyou so much for allowing us to use your stunning wedding field. It was one to remember! X
