This place was awful food was cold drinks were watered down and management didn’t seem to care at all.i would have rather went to Red Lobster.Only good thing was the server Lexy which was so embarrassed by the way the manager was blaming her.I told her your not cooking it or the bartender so don’t worry about it.

Drinks arrived promptly and food also reasonable wait time. Some veg nice but others a bit al dente! Meat was a weird texture, as if it had been shredded and then put in a mould. My daughter was handed a very hot plate and the table was cleared as I was eating my last mouthful, so we decided against a dessert as we were obviously outstaying our (lukewarm) welcome.

From the street level you head upstairs to a spacious, bright area with comfortable wicker style seating around good sized tables. We were allowed to bring our dog in with us . There were tables outside too which looked lovely for a good weather day. Service was friendly, polite and relaxed but efficient. There were 5 of us and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our food which ranged from fresh, hunky, thick sandwiches one was steak and the other chicken, bacon and avocado to burgers which were super saucy and juicy. Had a lovely, welcome cuppa tea amongst other drinks including a gorgeous cocktail which was a kind of Toffee Apple Crumble - can't remember the name. Very much enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. Thank you for a great little family holiday memory x

I stopped by the Boathouse for an afternoon drink since I had the day off, and I was drawn to the menu by the Boathouse burger. It was cooked to perfection and topped with slow-cooked brisket and a rich gravy sauce. While it originally comes with blue cheese, the friendly waitress was happy to swap it for Swiss cheese. I can’t emphasize enough how delicious this burger was—kudos to the chefs! The manager on duty was also warm and welcoming, as was the lovely young waitress who took my order. I’ll definitely be coming back. This is hands down the best spot in Charlestown!

We come here regularly and never had a problem the staff are wonderful. Unfortunately We had sea bass, have had it before and was very good, This time the se bass was so hard it was standing up in plate in bits. I could not cut it let alone chew it, there was no taste and mostly skin, so hard. We didn't complain but in hindsight we should have discreetly. Spoilt our anniversary. On the bright side weather was lovely and starter was great

My husband and I visited here for a later lunch yesterday (Sunday). The restaurant had clearly been very busy as even though there was only one table eating when we arrived, the staff were still busy cleaning and moving tables back to their correct positions. We shared the bread, hummus and olives for a starter which was very nice. I then had the chicken burger and my husband had shoulder of lamb Greek style - both of our mains were well cooked and delicious. We then shared a dessert - strawberry and raspberry meringue with toffee sauce - this was also very good. The staff were very friendly and a lady called Sarah was very helpful with some local information we enquired about. We will definitely return - thank you 🙏

Was staying with an Australian friend in St Austell and we chose to go to the Boathouse on our first evening for dinner. I spoke to them and they advised it was full apart from seats outside. When we arrived they suggested a couple of low sofa chairs and low table just inside the door which was perfect. Fabulous tasting food - I had the mussels and the feta and watermelon starters which complimented everything perfectly. A lovely rose complimented the meal. In fact we returned 2 days latter for dinner and I chose the same combination as it was so good. Lovely staff, and fantastic decor - and great if you want to eat in the garden too. Thoroughly recommended.

Booked to come on Friday night with some friends. Atmosphere inside the restaurant was good (though the music was quite loud so difficult to hear people on the other side of the table) The food we had was really tasty and I love the choice of food you get in the Boathouse. Living locally, it’s always a top choice to go for dinner when in Charlestown. However, my party and I were quite shocked by the attitude of one of the waitstaff. Throughout the entirety of the night, she appeared grumpy, fed up and completely like she didn’t want to be there. There was no friendly greeting or conversation at our table at any point during the night, just a “yeah?” when she came to take our order. No niceties at all. I understand it’s the height of summer but we were made to feel like such an inconvenience, and when we were paying over £200 for dinner, it’s nice to feel valued. She also missed off one of my friend’s dishes, despite counting the orders when she took our order, so one of our party had to sit and wait (fair play to the kitchen who got the dish out speedier than we were expecting!) and we were understanding, but we didn’t even receive an apology from her for the mistake (another waitress who didn’t take the order was lovely but again, it wasn’t her fault bless her.) I should also mention that at one point, this staff member was walking down the stairs to the kitchen, loudly swearing. Something along the lines of “I couldn’t F*king believe it” It was certainly loud enough for our entire party to hear and didn’t particularly fit with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall, I love my visits to the Boathouse but I do not feel keen to return with this particular staff member there. It didn’t feel welcoming and we almost dreaded having our order taken! We are normally keen tippers as lots of our party work in hospitality and understand the stresses of the job, but didn’t feel we could tip after this meal - it just wasn’t a pleasant experience. Which is a shame, as without this service I would have said it was a 4/5* venue.

On holiday visiting from Scotland, and had been to the Hangloose adventure at Eden, wanted to find somewhere to eat by the sea. Quick Google search and up popped the Boathouse. Not realising the regatta in Charlestown was on, we worried we may not find anywhere. Luckily The Boathouse was able to accommodate us outside with cover. Staff were lovely, made us very welcome, food was great. I had the seared sea bass, which I am told has just been added to menu. It was delicious, and felt very nutritious. Treated myself to a wee French Martini, definitely made perfectly, 5*! My Husband and daughter really enjoyed their pep talk pizza. After watching thd regatta parade, took a walk to let dinner settle we wandered down to the harbour which has a stunning view. Charlestown itself was so charming, the little arts and crafts shops are so inviting. If visiting Cornwall in the future would definitely pop it on my list.

Although they were busy the kind waitress said they could do us a table in the next 45 minutes which was fine with us. We asked if we eat outside which was no problem. Waitress was really kind and helped me select a mocktail and took our food order of 2 pizzas and sides. Food was delicious and side salad contained olives. I was invited last minute to join a friends leaving do at The Boathouse. And I have to say I was immediately excited to try it. My excitement stopped there. My friends had informed me that the restaurant had been particularly difficult when requesting the extra chair, and the waitress who looked after us seemed to make it her mission to make me feel as uncomfortable as possible. The rest of the party had preordered, so a menu was pushed into my face to decide on a choice. She clearly had a problem with our party as we watched every other table she went to she was lovely. A table next to me wanted to order the Pork Belly (that I had ordered) and the waitress loudly announced that because I was an extra member of the party they no longer had that dish available. I mean really? What was she getting from this?! And complaining at the bar that it’s “f*****g busy” when the bar is in the centre of the restaurant isn’t the best thing to do! The food was ok, but unfortunately good food can’t make up for service like that. I stayed because of the company of my friends. What really topped the whole experience off was when it came to pay. It took 4 attempts to actually get the bill to start with. We then all worked out what we had - to try and make the wait staffs life easier! What a mistake that was! We were then demanded to go up to the bar so that she could work out what each of us had so we didn’t leave anything short! This felt like an accusation that we were going to leave without paying the full bill. I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for the last decade as an award winning pub manager, and now I train and develop others in the industry. I have never been treated as awfully by a restaurant as I was last night, nor would I ever dream of myself or my staff treating paying guests as such. With the new Harbour Beer House and Pier House reopenings this month I really hope people vote with their feet on this one!

Both the service and the food were a mixed bag, unfortunately… FOOD: Mostly very nice, but one meal was very poor - a clearly burnt burger and overcooked fries were inedible and left uneaten. We mentioned it to a waitress, who was genuinely apologetic, but by this point we didn’t want to make a fuss or wait for a replacement. However, when it came to paying the bill, we deliberately weren’t asked the standard question “was everything ok with your meals?” and neither were we offered any form of refund, which would’ve been appreciated. We didn’t bother to ask either, we simply won’t go back… SERVICE: We booked a table online, but it wasn’t ready when we arrived (slightly early). No problem, we sat outside and were told we’d be called in when the other diners had left. However, I had to go inside twice to check whether it was ready - the second time, the table had recently been cleared but we hadn’t been called inside to sit down. No big deal. But this did set the tone for generally slow and unattentive service for the rest of the night. The staff were all friendly enough, and we regularly got asked if we wanted extra drinks, but when they were ordered they sometimes took a very long while to arrive (despite the bar not being busy by this point) and there didn’t seem to be any sense of urgency. We genuinely thought they’d forgotten to take our dessert orders (despite two waitresses coming over to ask if we wanted more drinks), and we were almost going to just give up and leave. It’s a shame, because the restaurant itself was nice, as was most of the food.

Was in the area for the weekend and was looking for somewhere nice to eat..Googled and found this cozy little restaurant. We had bread and olives to start and I had a hot chocolate. 👌🏾 My husband had a double burger with pulled meat( can't remember what meat it was)which he said was really good. I had seafood linguine. It was nice but needed a little extra so I added parmesan. I however, was a bit annoyed because I couldn't finish eating my meal because of the starter and hot chocolate I was filled up quickly. I asked to have it taken away so I can obviously eat it later...I was told I can't take it out of the restaurant as its seafood and that's their regulation. I eat seafood alot and usually take my food away if I can't finish it.....such a waste of food and money for something so silly! In all my restaurant visits I've never heard this before! For that I would give 2 stars on service because why would you rather have me waste my food and money...felt like I was penalised for not being able to finish my food.....

what an experience! booked for my partners birthday lunch and we have arguably had the worst service and food we’ve experienced! where too start, we arrived 25 minutes early so we can have a drink before hand, got greeted by a semi smiling chap behind the bar who told us to “find any square table” we opted for the comfy chairs 2 metres away from the bar as we had a large golden retriever and didn’t want to disturb anyone else in the main restaurant. A good 15 minutes later he came around to get our drinks order for a further 10 them to be delivered. This was now 12pm other than 2 other tables who arrived after us and got their drinks before us we were finally celebrating. Moving on a further 35 minutes later and being invisible to all staff we had to order our own food at the bar dispute it being table service and everyone else was getting service. The starter arrived at a speedy rate credit to the chef and FoH team. We were actually surprised by the semi smiling bartender as he came and got more drinks for us only to find out he came back to say they’ve ran out of lemonade but I can have soda however it won’t taste nice for the shandy. Honesty I guess. Starter was nice but wouldn’t order again, waited a good 35 minutes for our starter to be cleared which we had to let a waitress know of this. 25 minutes later we finally got our mains. I must add tables that were walking in got their mains before us! a simple roast beef which was greeted by the phrase “ROAST” with zero emotion. Which was poorly plated and poorly executed by raw vegetables and unseasoned everything. Followed by mussels and a side of chips. Mussels were still dirty and didn’t taste fresh which shocked me considering you’re right by the sea. No check backs from anyone, wasn't offered pudding menus or anymore drinks, poor! Had to get up and get the bill with the semi smiley bartender who again didn’t even acknowledge us, ask us about the experience just took the payment didn’t even say bye which we both thought was just rude. Atmosphere gets two stars for the dogs that we see in there. ALL FOH and BOH staff need training on food safety and service. Zero management. Won’t be back.

The batter on our fish was fluorescent yellow, soggy and oozed grease (see photo) we felt unwelcome as soon as we walked in and our drinks took 26 minutes to come out (glass of water and a cappuccino), awful toilet access, cold undercooked fries, miserable staff, slow service and had terrible heartburn for two days afterwards (May or may not have been the grease but that's what I put it down to, enough to write this review) - actual location was lovely but the venue was not

Don’t understand how this place gets good reviews! We have tried it several times over the last few years on our visits to Charlestown, and have been consistently disappointed. Thought we’d give it another go for lunch as it’s local & how bad could it be? But we were reminded why we avoid this place. Each time (including our most recent visit in March ‘24) it seems to have inexperienced front of house staff with no management or strategy. We were told we didn’t have our table for long, and were then left for over 10 minutes without even being brought a menu, and even longer until we could order, which resulted in us having to move outside to finish our food. Having agreed to serve us lunch within a tight timeframe, they were then responsible for ensuring they delivered, instead they left us sat down unattended. Several tables around us were also chasing for menus and for their food. There was ineffective communication between staff, who either seemed to ignore each other or be very indiscreet, talking loudly behind the bar in annoyance about who had said & done what, showing their confusion. They were not unfriendly, just disorganised and chaotic, which perhaps is a reflection on poor direction and guidance. Food arrived and as always, was on the whole very underwhelming and below average. We were still charged full price, when we had to go up & ask for the bill ourselves. We have learnt our lesson and will definitely not be returning. There are much nicer places to eat in Charlestown.

Great place in Charlestown for lunch or dinner. We stopped in for lunch. Quick and friendly service, and lovely food to go with it all. They have indoor and outdoor seating, we sat inside which has a lovely open atmosphere. Thanks for a lovely lunch 😊

I can safely say I have never had such abysmal service in a restaurant. We were told to find a table and wait for a menu. Ten minutes later we were still waiting as two groups who had come in after us received their menus and ordered. When we eventually went up to ask at the bar, we were given short shrift by the clearly disorganised barista. Our menus were finally brought over by a waitress I can only kindly describe as 'distracted'. She took our order for three coffees and wandered about a bit, scratching her head, before returning to the bar. Nothing happened for a further ten minutes but eventually my (by now cold) coffee came, but with no sign of the other two. Five minutes later we confused the waitress by asking about them, and asking for water while she took our food order. This was a mistake. Another five minutes and my wife went up to the bar to ask for the coffees and again got a black look from the barista. They eventually arrived with the accompaniment of a hearty sneeze from the waitress, who kindly directed it over the table next to us. The couple sitting there were not too amused by this. She then sneezed over the two glasses of water (we'd asked for three) that were waiting at the bar, before stopping for a chat with a friend on her way to bringing them over. We had by now been waiting for our food for over 30 minutes. The couple next to us left in disgust having been waiting pointlessly for their order for even longer. We foolishly waited a further ten minutes to no avail before leaving. We had wasted well over an hour in total and been charged nearly ten pounds for three cold cups of coffee. I think by then the waitress was having a lie down and we received no apology from her. We drove up the road to Niles Holmbush cafe where we had quick, friendly service and an excellent breakfast. It's not rocket science.

Visited The Boat House over the last 8 months at least for one meal per week and have enjoyed the atmosphere and the meals. Have not had a disappointed meal in all the time I have visited the restaurant. Very good service delivered with a smile.

Had a lovely evening meal here. We called in without making a booking and was fortunate to get a table. Food was so good and the staff made us feel very welcome.

This place has so much potential but lacks a lot of basics for a good restaurant. We were plonked next to a very draughty window and the radiator below was switched off. We were not the only couple who wore our coats. The place was freezing. Service was okay but not brilliant. Food was okay but that's about it. We won't be returning.

Crispy calamari’s as a starter was good. Fish and chips was crispy crunchy on the outside and succulent inside. Good chips with very pleasant white wine. All round an enjoyable evening and grateful they ‘squeezed’ us in.

Had a fantastic evening celebrating our anniversary with a few drinks and a meal. We booked in advance to ensure getting a table as we didn't want to leave it to chance. The restaurant itself had a lovely cosy atmosphere, especially with it raining outside. The staff were friendly and took our drink order while we decided what to eat. I chose the boathouse burger and asked to change the blue cheese to Swiss which they kindly did as I'm not a fan of blue cheese and my wife had the fish and chips. The burger was amazing although I did make a bit of a mess of myself eating it, highly recommend trying it if you like burgers. The fish too was delicious I'm told and we followed up with some lovely desserts, I had brownie with cream and my wife had the crumble. Will certainly visit again if we are in the area as there are many things I'd like to try on the menu.

We went here for our aniversary dinner. We loved the food, great portions. Well worth the money. I love real coffee and I could drink it here. Special mention to a black hair lady, she was super busy with taking orders, making drinks, cleaning tables etc, all on her own! And she served us with a smile- what a star!! Overall great experience.

We go here regularly for food and drinks, and this place is always fantastic. We've lived in Cornwall for 16 years, and this is the only restaurant where I can say that every time we've been and every person we've been with, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, coffee, wine or cocktails, every single time everything has been great. I once had to add a little salt to my starter. That is as close as I can get to a criticism. The seafood sharer is to die for, and amazing value for money. I have no idea how they make the mixed salad side for the price they do, it's packed with delicious marinaded olives, home made coleslaw etc... I have to order it as a side regardless of my main. I always go for the cheese board for a pud with a glass of red. Heaven!

Fabulous vegetarian restaurant. Even my hubby who eats meat was a bit reticent about coming here… however he loved the food and revisited with me. Lovely menu, food is delicious and service is good .

When holidaying in Cornwall the bush pepper should be a top tier priority your list. There are many things to enjoy on the menu but in my opinion you must always try something new. For example their kangaro was such a unusual but delicious dish. It doesn't have that gamey beefy iron taste to it, so you really can season it however you like. The menu said it was Cajun but I felt it lacked that spicy element. The port and red wine reduction was lovely. And the sweet potato wedges really complimented the kangaroo. My wings were fall apart melt in your mouth. However, it said it was BBQ flavour I think it needed a bit more of a smokey depth to it. The sauce felt a little confused. But still delicious. The people who served us were a delight Jasmine and Sian. Two sweet & Stella servers who make all the correct check backs at the appointed time. They had great banter. They really did look after us. Check backs really mean alot to me as a customer and you can always tell if they are genuine. The portion sizes as you can see are spot on. Just an all round amazing time. The owner must be proud.

The four of us disappointed and left hungry after spending over £100, Flavours were good. Very stingy small portions, literally one prawn one scallop, very expensive. Not even a whole chicken breast with my jerk chicken. Bucket of treats was a cup of treats one each. Won’t be returning, if you want good value and decent plate of food go somewhere else.

We hired a beautiful field on the Cornish cliffs with the most spectacular views. So lucky to have found such a hidden gem for our perfect wedding venue. Absolutely wonderful owners and extremely helpful. Could not have had a better day! Thankyou so much for allowing us to use your stunning wedding field. It was one to remember! X

We called in for a drink, not food. Pleasant atmosphere. I loved my latte, which was really well made.
