Absolutely amazing chippy, our favourite in Bude. Absolutely delicious fish 'n' chips, great portion sizes, fantastic staff.

Every town needs a good chippy, and I now know Bude has one! We got a regular fish and chips and a large, 2 drinks, 1 peas, 1 curry sauce and a bread bun and it was £32, which I think is very reasonable given the amount of food we got! And not only in quantity, but quality too. The chips really lovely and the cod was chunky. I loved it, especially since it was from one Teessider to another 💗

Proper chips made from scratch on the premises and fried to perfection. Superb affordable oap specials. Fabulous battered fish. I can't recommend it highly enough ... absolutely perfect!

Fish great wonderfully fresh but chips find hit & miss

Went in for fish and chips whilst my family were on holiday in Widemouth Bay, well worth the 3 Mike drive to get them, good portion size, chips cooked the way I like them, and the service was quick even given the high number of customers that were there. Some more ire of my family the next night, and were equally impressed.

I would recommend this place to my friends and family because of the service is great and they don't take long to come. Food always cooked fresh to order.

I like a good fish and chips. Unfortunately this was not it. Soggy chips, soggy fish, cold burgers.

They gave us battered fishcakes when we asked for normal fishcakes

Absolutely delicious fish & chips. The chips were fresh and tasty (no old oil taste) and the batter was exquisite. The fish was fresh and beautifully cooked. Fish and chips is our go to meal on our days out - and these were the best we've had this year!

Don't eat here unless you want food poising.. We got a portion of cod and chips last night to eat at home.. when eating the fish it tasted overly fishy but thought it was because it was fresh..all through the night up vomiting .. a guess the fish was frozen and not cooked properly or it was just off.. will be reporting to Cornwall council.

Friendly little chippy serving excellent traditional fish and chip dinners with lovely crispy batter and very little grease. All at sensible prices too. Recommended.

Had fish and chips from here to take home. Fish was shall we say smelling very fishy,thinking this was because it was fresh.. how wrong can you be! Up all night vomiting, it must have either been rotten or cooked while frozen.. avoid this place it's just rubbish.. I will be reporting to Cornwall council..

Chose this chip shop after reading good reviews. Whilst the chips were lovely the mini cod was complete waste of money. It was all batter and was tiny, 3 mouthfuls of cod. You get more cod in a fish finger. The large chips was also much smaller than what we get back home. Sadly wouldn't use again.

Have visited this shop everytime we come to Bude. Never disappoints. Fish cooked to order and portions are very generous. Good polite service. Best fish and chips in town!

If I could give no stars I would. Worst chips I have ever eaten. They were the only chippy open and looked busy so thought they must be good. But how wrong was I. The most gross food I have ever tasted. Won't ever be returning, complete waste of money.

we had Cod and chips and I can honestly say they were the BEST I’ve ever had! Light crispy batter on a nicely cooked Cod and the chips weren’t soggy but also very crispy on the outside. Amazing. Thank you

Went here with a couple of friends whilst on holiday. All the food was great. Between us we had cod, haddock, battered sausages and chips and it was all fantastic. Would definitely recommend them.

Really good chips. Nice peppery saveloy and good gravy. Jumbo sausage was a decent one too. Happy cheerful service as well. Definitely doesn't deserve the bad reviews.

A little fish and chips near a beach. There is plenty of road parking outside the shop. A decent fish and chips . Good portions and a lovely crisp piece of fish.

Ok, so these are REALLY nice chips!! Many fish and shops sell pale and soggy, chips that you think you want until its too late and your feel stodgy and horrible. These chips are golden in colour, taste fresh, and are soft on the inside and a little crisp on the outside. Well done team!

Best chip shop chips I've had in a long time! Service is well organised given how busy it gets and we didn't have to wait long at all. I'm vegetarian so had the breaded mushrooms which were so tasty and the rest of my family had fish and said it was also excellent.

Went here recently with my other half after smelling what seemed to be nice food from here, how desperately wrong we were. Ordered nothing but sausage and chips & tried their mozzarella sticks. We opened the box of chips to find that every chip was brown & very over cooked, some still being raw. The box our food came in was dripping in sweat and grease. The battered sausage we had was vile and inedible, batter was undercooked, soggy and wet. Sausage is the most processed meat I’ve ever had. As a local of Bude for many years it’s upsetting seeing this place go so downhill recently as a few years ago it was lovely. The staff here are very rude with no manners or respect for customers or the food they make. The mozzarella sticks we had were actually edible to an extent, however tasted like something you would purchase frozen from Morrisons. Overall experience here was terrible and if I could give a zero, I would. I don’t recommend going here at all.

Terrible chips, very greasy. The boxes were soaked with oil. The batter on the battered sausage was very thick and undercooked in places and also very greasy. Used to be a lovely chip shop but has gone downhill very quickly recently

made the mistake of ordering a large cod chips & peas when i got home and unwrapped it GOD it was a whale chips and peas it was a massive piece of cod too much for me next time i will get the small but all the same it was delicious thank you pete.and all your great staff

I can not see how this place has a single bad review. Large cod was huge, barely fit the tray, crispy batter, soft white flaky cod. Chips were perfect and the spicy curry sauce was delicious. In and out within 10 mins. Worth the drive, will be my new local.

This very much a hit and miss chip shop depending on who is cooking, tonight it was definitely a miss, the large fish was well over cooked and at over £9 would expect it to be all fish when I cut into it, there was a lot more batter at the end than fish, the chips were crispy and a lot of scratching.

Stopped off here for a couple of portions of chips for lunch. They were absolutely delicious. Piping hot and with salt and vinegar on as that's what I asked for. I cannot wait to come back here again when we revisit in April.

Small portions at premium prices, not particularly quick. Ordered a large portion of chips and got given a regular with the contempt of how dare you order just chips, it smells like a chip pan mate so it's chips I'd like thanks 👍

Not the best fish and chips. The fish was ok and it was hot but the batter was dripping with oil. The chips were very crispy with many scrappy bits.

Best chippie in Bude, as the long queues testify. Worth the wait, as far better than the others, in terms of food quality and portion sizes.

Got chips from here today they were awful, soggy and all you could taste was oil. I could hardly taste the potatoes, I'm a local and normally go to Francine's in Launceston which are always amazing, These made me feel sick had to chuck way shame but will not be coming here again

Excellent fish and chips and great service! We had the cod and the fries were amazing - be sure to get them salted and with the malt vinegar. We came back an another day for more!

Best fish and chips we've had in a long time! We got takeaway cod and chips for a late lunch. All freshly fried up. Crispy and delicious. The ladies in the shop were also very lovely!

The best chippy in Bude, the chips are crispy and delicious and the spicy curry sauce is 10/10. If you love a battered sausage, theirs are the best! Crispy batter and a very big portion. Doesn’t look much from the outside but trust me this is one of the best chippy’s going.

Just come back from holiday near bude and on our first night after travelling on holiday we stopped for fish & chips 🍟. I have to say they are the best fish and chips I've had . Chips were crispy and fish was delicious 😋. I always like the idea of fish & chips but normally disappointed but not this time . Would of gone back for more but ran out of time .Hope to be back soon for more

Tried here after reading mixed reviews on here and also as it appear's to be the only proper chip shop that open's at 12. There were 3 people already in a queue infront of us. You have to stand outside until they are ready to take your order and then go and wait outside again until it is ready. Waited till 12.05 for them to let us in and then finally had 3 lots of chips 15 minutes later. Not sure why when they open at 12 they haven't already got at least some chips ready to go. Dread to think of the service when it's busy! Never had to wait outside a chip shop like this before. A really bizarre way of ordering. Have to say the chips looked better than they tasted. They were hard, tastless (even though asked for salt and vingegar, there wasn't any) My Son said they were too crispy and hard and struggled to get his fork in them. Also had one pot of gravy which was runny as and tasted like watered down bovril. I guess for £3.90 the portion size was okay. Wouldn't dream of paying £9.75 for a large fish, that just seem's too much! Won't be returning as there are a few other chip shop's to try in Bude.

Hidden away at the top of Bude is not the most salubrious looking chip shop but don’t let that put you off. Very good fish and chips, the fish cooked to order but the short wait was worth it. So good we went twice during our week in the Bude area, simple food executed well.

It's gonna be a bit of a wait but the fish and chips is good maybe not amazing but solid, so was happy with food even after queuing for 20mins.

Bought fish and chips, the quality of the fish was good, the fries were absolutely soaked with the frying fat, the fries actually only tasted of fat and salt, poor price-performance ratio

Absolutely lovely fresh fish and chips! There is a que, but that's because the food is so good!

They told us there was a five minute wait but we waited more than 40 minutes for 2x chips and gravy. It tasted nice but I think they must cook 1 order at a time from scratch as there were only 9 orders ahead of us and 3 staff members working. If you're not in a rush then it's OK but it wasn't worth the very long wait for a simple order.

You'll queue whatever time you go. Chippy was recommended by a local. Waited for about 45 minutes for chips. They were lovely but not sure it was worth the wait.

Found the portion size or chips to be small and they were hard and greasy, we were attracted by the number of people waiting outsides but we weren’t impressed

Recommended here by our taxi driver and he went wrong, the queue was literally out the door and I can see why the fish came was excellent and the kids had mini fish which they all loved

Delicious takeaway for 12 people, ordered haddock, cod, chicken burger, chips, all perfect. If there’s a queue it’s worth the wait 😊

Disappointing. Ordered and paid but then told no haddock left, so opted for cod (cheaper but no refund) which definitely wasn't the freshest. Also ordered scampi which came as 6 tiny overcooked pieces, and a chicken burger for which we received a beef burger. Only discovered error at home. Food quality wasn't great, so doubt we will be returning.

Tasty fish n chips usually after that meal the fish is swimming in my gut but here I was sound it was very tasty however when asked for scraps they was missed off but still tasty non the less very reasonably priced for 4 adults n a child spent less than £30

Food was great. the service was friendly but the queuing system was a bit all over the place. Possibly not to much they can do in regards to where people stand outside but a sign might help?

The best fish and chip in Bude. The fish just perfect

Extremely disappointed with the food, having read previous reviews, we decided to try the mermaid, big mistake, we had regular cod which must have been filleted by stevie wonder! Loads of bones and zero taste , the batter was undercooked and soggy, the fish cake was also tasteless, the chips were very crunchy and scrappy, on a good note the mushy peas were fine.

Updating my review as I have to say the chips were delicious on my most recent visit! Very fair portions and just the right amount of crispiness. It's nice to have battered cod where the batter doesn't completely takeover the fish - no empty chunks of batter. Expect a queue and quite a wait on a weekend as it gets very popular but clearly for good reason! Would certainly return.

A busy chip shop on a Saturday evening, but for good reason. Everything was prepared and cooked to order. Between us we had cod, haddock, battered sausage, chips and curry sauce, all was hot and delicious. The staff were all helpful, friendly and efficient. There was a long queue of people, but orders were taken quickly and we soon moved along the queue. We will definitely come here again the next time we're in Bude.

8 of us had meals from them on a busy Wednesday night. Lovely staff, best chips I’ve ever had from a chippy and all of us thoroughly enjoyed all of the food. Very good price as well, 8 of us eating for £66 complete with sides & meals.

Expect to queue outside, this is a good sign that the fish is fresh and good food. Friendly staff. Worth it.

I knew we had to come back here again for our second visit to Bude! It sets our holiday up nicely with freshly cooked Fish and Chips. Even though it gets busy, there isn't an incredibly long wait. I see it only as a bonus that it's busy as it's obviously sought after. The food portions are VERY generous (which I'm not complaining about at all!) so I was suitable stuffed after a regular portion. Staff were friendly and patient! Prices are affordable and for what you get is more than reasonable. Thank you for being reliable and kicking our holidays off with a great start 😊

I visited the mermaid on my holiday to bude. It was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. I could barely finish the large cod but it was to good to waste and their spicy curry sauce was delicious. Very fairly priced and from what I hear they are the cheapest in bude. Definitely recommend to all people visiting bude.
