This is the worse fish and chips that I have had been to and I have tried many. The chips was fried to brown and same with the fish. They have used the oil for too long and subsequently the food is brown with a stale taste and the oil cannot be heated to high temperature and the chips became oily and soggy. Their portion size was atrocious, purchased a large size for £4.95 and the size was similar to a regular size elsewhere . Stay away if you don't want to get ripped off. I honestly don't know how they had managed to get those good reviews, BELEIVE ME WHEN I SAY STAY AWAY! SEE THE ATTACHED PHOTO, WE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS OF THE FISH.

I haven’t been here for a long while as I was carer 24/7 for my wife she passed away in June unfortunately.i am able to get out more and her sister and husband came to see me and we booked a table and we all agreed that was the best fish and chips we have had for a long time and service was excellent.

Have not been in shop for about two years but went in today ordered hake and chips twice well I can only say it was the best fish and chips I have ever eaten the fryer is first class and the rest of the staff do a great job

I stopped at this Fish and Chip shop on the way home after a busy day out. Right on the main road through Roche, I was able to turn into the side road running beside it. There is a car park at the rear of the shop. I popped in just for one fish and chips for myself for tea. Friendly service and when I got back into my car I happily tucked in. The fish and chips were gorgeous, beautifully cooked and hot. The portion size was just right and the price good. A very good fish supper and I highly recommend.

Didn’t end up getting our takeaway, as it was clearly an inconvenience to dare to order half an hour before closing. We were ‘greeted’ by two staff, one male one female. When I say ‘greeted’, I mean some ‘grunting’ and grumpy faces. We then asked for our first order of fish and chips- met with a collective sigh from both staff. The second request was for gluten free fish and chips, which was met with an audible comment of ‘for f**k sake’ from the male. When asking the female server if this was too much for them to make, she said ‘no’ very abruptly and the male server then sighed again and rolled his eyes. Needless to say, we left without our food and Trebonney will not have our custom again. We will be speaking to management, as the service was past appalling, it was downright unacceptable! How dare we ask for food that they serve, in a timely manner?!

Delicious crispy batter encasing a perfectly cooked chunky cod fillet, a great mug of tea and a mixed platter with again perfectly cooked fish, scampi, chips and tender squid rings. Two very happy customers eating in, in the bright clean restaurant. We loved the harbour picture on the wall and our waitress had a great sense of humour. Thank you Trebonney Fish & chips.

We were staying locally in a holiday cottage and just arrived so decided on fish anc chips for supper rather than go out and what a delight they were. The best ever tasted, the fish was plump, fresh and fabulous with a good portion of fresly cooked delicious chips. I would travel a distance for these fish and chips and wished i lived nearer. If i go back to cornwall again i will make a point of visiting Trebonney fish and chip shop

After travelling down from the Midlands, we visit here as all the local restaurants, even where we were staying! were fully booked due to 1/2 price eat out diner offer. What a treat - enter via one door place your order then vacate and food cooked to order brought out a second door to you so no chance of customer cross over contamination. Food was piping HOT and beautifully cooked 👍 would definitely recommend this chop shop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

popped in here as we were staying at travelodge up the road. Food was great. Ordered and got given an order number and needed to wait outside and then collected at another part so well distanced. Food was really good. Thank you

45 minutes for 1 cod and chips. 2 orders went out and were returned in that time. The cod was tiny and the chips were over cooked. Avoid this place like the plague.

Been here a few times now in preference to 'others', found it to be all good so far! Dont mind waiting a bit for things to be fresh cooked as has been the case on all our visits, at least you know its not been reheated or been sitting around forever! Friendly service and as reasonably priced as most other places. Cheers folks!!

This is our local and have had takeaways from here on numerous occasions with no issues, on this occasion we decided to have a sit down meal with family in the restaurant section, very polite staff and clean restaurant but we were very disappointed by the small child size portions and bland taste of the food.

I had dinner there today and asked for a large chips with my meal, was told this will cost extra and I said that was fine. We both got child size plates of dinner and a very small portion of chips, the fish was half the size it has been every time we had been to Trebonney before over the last few years. We told the waitress and she didn't apologize and just got the manager, the manager also did not apologize and explained they don't do a large chips - I explained that the waitress said she will do it for me. In conclusion, they have lost a few customers and know they will lose more. The food was average, portion sizes are child like and the staff were shockingly rude and unapologetic.

Have been using for many years now and have always had very good food chips have always been terrific . On Wednesday lunch time I had chicken pie and chips it was the worst meal ive ever had soggy greasy chips and the pie was so over cooked it was cremated .

On entering the shop I was welcomed by a lovely lady very friendly and chatty. The food was reasonably priced and tasty. Thank you.

Fantastic fish and chips, always freshly cooked and piping hot. Staff are always very friendly. We visit every Tuesday lunchtime and cant wait for the following week to enjoy their fish and chips.

We visit quite often and always use the take away. Never eaten in but the restaurant part always looks clean and welcoming. Always enjoy the chips and our children love the sausages we have tried from other local fish and chip shops but they always say these are the best. Fish is always good and I love trying The Mess ask the staff about it. You sometimes have to wait quite a while but that said at least your food is freshly cooked and not been sat around for a while. They offer a telephone service where you can order in advance and collect at your chosen time if you don’t like having to wait in the shop sometimes. Great food.

We came in as a family at a weekend. Where we was made to wait unfortunately a long time. Had two separate orders where my friends husband ordered just two portions of chips he waited over 25 minutes for his and I waited over 30 minutes for mine. Was a very long time to wait seeing as it was not very busy I thought. Wasn’t worth the wait as it wasn’t anything that special. I use this food bar a lot but would rather just come in on a weekday as I usually do and not have to wait over 30 mins to sit down and eat

Come in most Thursday nights as I’m often working away. Fantastic food freshly cooked fish which is the best I’ve ever had. no waiting times and very well mannered staff that work.

Once again we have gone back to this chippy although I usually drive to st Austell for a chippy there and I live in Roche as it’s quicker 39 mins my wife waited for chips Should of known better as same thing happend in summer This time I will never ever put foot back in there again So if you don’t mind waiting 35/45 minutes for a bag of chips then this is place for you

Very unhappy orders kebab meat got so little on top of my chips no salad half time to and shred price of onion travelled from trethowel aswell heard was gd food obviously not miserable staff so need to sort the place out preparing food on the till area will not be goin bk food is bad

We live in st columb major, where we have two fish and chips shops, but we always make the journey here for our fish and chips. Both fish and chips are freshly cooked and they are delicious. Never mind waiting for something this good, well done to all the great staff, keep up the good work.

This place is a bonus find. My wife is gluten free and its difficult to find suitable food when we are on holiday. I didn't want her to spend all her time cooking so I did a search for gluten free in the area, we were in Pentewan so 18 mile round trip, but oh so worth it.

I was staying in Roche on business and had a real craving for fish n chips. I asked my hotel receptionist where to go and she recommended a chippy in Bugle. When I got there it was closed so I headed back to Roche and found this place; and I am so glad I did! Without a doubt the best fish n chips I have had in years!!

Called in for take out meal for 4 and we all agreed that it was good value, as well as great crisp chips. Recommended and would partake in a return trip to Roche.

Have been there on numerous occasions now and it is still excellent. Its a toss up which is the best cook, brother or sister !! Thin crisp batter with beautifully cooked fish and golden chips. Extremely good value for money and the staff are so friendly. We actually go most weeks now.

Waited 15 minutes for this.. meat dry, the outside burnt. The sauce was a joke. Didn't even get my onion rings (to which was specified on the picture ) .. do yourself a favour, McDonalds is 5 minutes up the road! .. and the guy next to me who waited 15 minutes for 1 portion of small chips !! Poor.

I have gf here and have never been contaminated, food always cook fresh and is always great. So far in the years I have been visiting have never had a problem. I make the visit from saltash often as their g f is superb.

Car Park behind shop meant no difficulty parking to visit shop even though on main road.We all had cod, chips and mushy peas.10 minute drive to house. All food still hot. Fish was beautifully cooked in light, crispy batter: chips were best I've had from a chip shop: mushy peas were still hot and very tasty.My first visit to this fish n chip shop whilst visiting family, but will be back! I called in Roche chipshop today the chips were fine but I could not eat them as the lady who served me had an apron on that was once blue and white . was totally black with dirt .while I waited for my chips she was talking to the person frying and the whole time she was digging her ears with her fingers and scratching her head then she rearranged the Chile on the paper with her hands the chips went straight in the bin and I bought some more from bugle which I ate.

I haven't had this fish and chip shop for years, and me and my family wanted something for tea so decided to try it out here again as we haven't been in years.We ordered large portions as we didn't know what the portion size was like and omg we shouldn't have! The food was delicious and the portions are amazing! Not many chip shops give you a decent amount of chips but this one gives you a good amount for what you pay for. Happy customer, will definitely be returning!!

Best chip shop ive been to in cornwall . OIL is changed every day and all food is cooked from order. You wait a little longer but you know where the time went as soon as you taste the food .

Top quality fish and chips,served by cheerful, friendly people.My friend and I visit almost weekly and have never had a bad meal. The price is very reasonable and we see the same people most weeks, which again demonstrates the quality of food and service. The shop is quite small but personal and has recently been decorated.A very good local service.

I have been buying food from these guys for 13 years. Good quality food and good portions the only drawback is service can be slow.Definitely worth a visit.

The fish and chips here are amazing. The chips are always done brilliantly and the fish always cooked to perfection. The batter is crisp and tasty and that goes for my gluten free batter too! Plus, on top of that, the folk here are always lovely and provide an excellent service.

i have been using this chip shop for over a decade and was mostly ok,but when i visited today the food they served me was not good at all,the cod roe they sold me was putrid tasting and smelling and was obviously not fit to eat and the curry sauce was barely warm.i wont be using again and will be ringing trading standards first thing monday.there are much better restaurants in the area such as rexs in bugle which are better value and much better quality food

This is the second time I am writing a review for this establishment. I would like to ensure too everybody I do not know or am I affiliated with any staff or the owners. After reading a previous review I also had large fish on the same evening, and yes I had to wait for some time. Unfortunately for me there was an order for 9 fish and chips before me. The wait is worth it, it is the best Fish and chip shop in the area, and the locals should support the establishment, lucky we have such a place on our doorstep.

The food is excellent and I am a fussy eater, the service is very good freshly cooked to order and well worth any wait. Highly recommend.

I live a 5 min walk from the chippy and have done for 10 yrs, I cant say how many time we've had take away, but it's at least once a month, the waiting time has become shocking over the last few months, but today took the biscuit...... I placed my order (large cod with chips and 2 battered sausages) - we were sharing!!! With that a family of 4 came in with special order due to gluten free... Then another guy had cod and chips. They ordered after me, but got food quite promt.. I'm still waiting, so, ask if I had been forgotten, but get told they're waiting for battered sausage,,, I can see 7 on shelf!!!, turns out when I question, they say they're waiting for chips, (make your mind up)oh so the chips you just gave the others, A few minutes later they served it up, all from the shelf , which I've been looking at now for ages. You have lost local custom today. The only reason why you didn't get a 1 is because the food was at least ok.The young girl on till was polite, and just doing as she was told by the older lady.

I visited here whilst passing through Roche. There was no queue system or guidance from the staff at the counter. It was busy and a lady like me unaware of the queue system had her order taken then the very solemn waitress quietly asked if anyone was waiting to be served.I placed my order and waited. And waited some more. My order came and was incorrect but by this time I just needed to get going.Food was average. Maybe I was expecting more because of how busy it was, but regrettably was underwhelmed. Please people a smile does not hurt! Should have had my sushi!

After being diagonsed with coeliac disease a month ago I went to Trebonney fish and chip shop with my family. I enquired if they did gluten free fish and chips which they did. They looked good and tasted amazing. They used separate utensils for mine and mine husband's fish. And the staff although were really busy were still friendly. Would definatley recommend for coeliacs. Also have a small seating area if you would like to eat in.

As I live in Roche the fish and chips are great but the only down fall is that you don't get a lot of chips with your meal staff are always friendly always happy to help you

I visit regularly, the range of take away meals are very good. I don't know what oil they fry their chips in but I visit take aways around the county and haven't tasted better

Despite repeating order several times, they kept getting wrong then overcharged me and I found out when I got home order still not right. Asked for a chicken burger (amongst other things) but got the worst cheese burger I have ever tasted!

Happened upon this place when the one we were looking for (from another trip advisor review) was closed and we weren't disappointed. It was delicious, good size portions (And we are a bit of a family of piggies) nice curry sauce too :) Tho the satnav sent us totally the wrong way when we tried to find it again so don'r rely on that (we drove around until we found it we wanted it again that badly) Look for Tregarrick Road instead!

We found this place by accident although we were looking for it initially, because the directions take us to a completely incorrect area. Thankfully when we gave up and were searching for another shop we stumbled across it. I've added a photo of the road that's next to it and the pub as it may help to locate it if you are sent the wrong way by google maps like we were.The portions are HUGE but so delicious that they're welcome! we were only in Cornwall for a week but managed to visit twice and will definitely be back when next around. Be prepared for a wait as they cook everything fresh and get very busy but it is definitely worth it.

Clean, efficient and friendly service. I often get delicious haddock and chips from here, and the portions are generous. My only complaint is that they don't sell cans of Dandelion and Burdock or Bitter Shandy. Nevertheless - five stars! Worth travelling outside of St Austell for. Yum, yum, pig's bum!

My wife and I are staying locally in Bugle on a short break. We were recommended this fish & chip shop by our b&b host. We decided to eat in the restaurant and ordered the meal deal of fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter with a pot of tea. Very reasonably priced, freshly prepared and served. It was tasty and just what we wanted. Lovely crispy batter on the cod and excellent chips with nothing greasy. The premises are clean and you can see the cleanliness of the food prep area. Friendly staff and we would recommend to anyone touring the area.( Parking at rear or side).

the restaurant has been nicely refurbished. Such a friendly welcome by the female cook and staff. The service was excellent and our meal was freshly cooked, the fish had a lovely thin crisp batter and the chips were a golden colour, it looked and was appetising, Plus.....the price was very good..We will most certainly be going there again.

What a brilliant little chip shop. Was working away from Truro when I stopped by on Thursday night and the place was buzzing queued out the door with more people coming so I can't be the only one with a batter craving. Loved watching how busy the staff was and how what seemed to be the leader taking charge on the till making sure everything went okay. Brilliant food and good money for what you get. First review and only because I have your trip advisor card. Well done. One satisfied customer.

I've visited here twice whilst passing through Roche and it's OK I'm not going to butter it because it isn't brilliant and it isn't rubbish... The take away area is tiny really really tiny and the rest of the shop is taken Up by a HUGE eating area which I've never seen anyone in there... The staff seem to take orders and make it, rather than clear the queue and make everyone's order one after the other, long waits even at peak times and be prepared to queue onto the street if the tiny waiting area is full oh and they close pretty early so if your hungry after 8:30pm this one is closed

This chippy does gluten free food! Since new owner have taken over! It's not the same standard as before. I watch them cross contaminated my fish by putting other non gluten free in the same deep fryer. So don't eat there if your Sensitive..

This is our Local chippy, which we visit on occasion. The Portions are a good size and it really feels value for money. Fish is always fried well, sometimes a bit too greasy. The chips seem fresh, and always well cooked, really excellent chips. If you order Onion rings or something they cook them fresh to order so prepare to wait a few minutes for these things, as they obviously don't want to leave lots of things in the heater to dry out and then throw away! I only drop a star because on occasion when it is a bit busy, the person taking the order wouldn't take my order as he thought I had been served! All in all a great chippy and we will return!
