Good portion size cod & chips. Fish cake had my two year old’s approval. Nice family meal. Cash only = problem in 2022, particularly for a tourist who doesn’t know where nearest cash machine is. And difficult car parking in middle of narrow town centre. Good food and service from the staff though.

Had to wait for about 5 minutes..the chips were cooked to order. In most chip shops you hear a sizzle as they hit the oil. Not here….it sounded and tasted like the chips were being boiled. The oil was also old…you could smell this and see black specks on the soggy chips. Not the cheapest or the best. Also only takes cash.

Nothing wow or stands out like other chip shops around the area. Food is average. There portions of chips used to be huge.now not so big. There chicken nuggets used to be fresh breast. Now reformed chicken nuggets. Its merely ok and does the job.

Excellent fish chips would have given it 5 but cash only (couldn't work out the bank transfer) so had to go to find ATM

This is a bit hit-and-miss, some very good points although accompanied by very bad ones. The good ones first: > The portion size is probably the biggest of any chip shop in the Bideford, including surrounding area. The fish sizes are also massive; > A wide selection of fish can be cooked, to order. An option few other chip shops are able to provide locally; The bad: > CASH ONLY. This is very strange, I don't really carry cash, so I need to make a special journey to get some. It's really annoying. > Doesn't seem to be open on Friday evenings (as of 3/2022). This is total madness, they're probably losing a good portion (get it?) of their weekly income by not being open now as I write this. As this is my (and possibly others') fish and chip night, I need to look elsewhere; > SOMETIMES the chips can be very greasy indeed. More like boiled chips than fried. It's as if they load them from the fryer straight into the bag without the essential drain/dry step (this does save time, but creates greasy chips). This isn't always the case though, and when it's not the chips are good. Conclusion: This chip shop has been going for a long time, in the 90's and early 00's the chips were legendary. Parking outside isn't ideal, but that isn't their fault so I haven't listed it here. Sadly, the quality has become variable and unpredictable. When it's good, it's very good. When it's bad, it's a meal-breaker. Try them once, if you get lucky you won't regret it. Possible Things They Could Try™: > Get a card machine. It's 2022, even contactless Big Issue vendors are a tried and trusted technology. Companies like iZettle offer some reasonable packages. > Let the chips drain and dry, for longer! I don't really care if it adds a few minutes to my waiting time, the chips taste better. > Be open on Friday nights. (Obviously they might have a good reason why they can't be, and that's fine.)

My son just came in an ordered x2 battered jumbo sausages and medium chips twice salt and vinegar curry sauce large cheesy chips and kids meal burger. For a start it says sausages not sausage so only gave us one each the chips were hard the cheese was awful and the kids burger was over cooked we are normally regular customers but we won't be anymore

Ordered a large Fish and chips. The chips were soaked in grease and soggy. The fish was really salty. Poor attempt at a fish and chips. However, if quantity is your thing this is the place for you .

Very nice chips lovely and hot and it's nice to know they are open 7 days a week including Bank Holidays

Awesome place! Closest to where we live, massive portions, amazing staff member even though she was on her own, she did extremely well considering there was 5 of us to serve and cook for and a load of people came in 2 minutes after we had ordered as well! Tasted amazing, I would highly recommend 👍🏻

Friendly staff. Good quality chips and the large cod resembled a whale. Only downside is that they used to make their own large fishcakes which were a ball of fish and mash potato loveliness, but they no longer do☹️

Great place to go really nice food

Visited today and bought sausages, fishcakes battered burger and chips for the family. We got 3 large chips between 6 us and that easily fed us a good portion.. Batter was golden and crispy, chips were lovely 😋 (new potatoes)... Will definitely visit again..

They got the order completely wrong there's no onions in my my burgers and if that's what they call a large portion of chips well a large portion of chips is now looking like a small portion of chips totally disappointed won't be going back there again my partner could have done better at Iceland I think we'll be going to Iceland's next time for burgers and chips

Good portions, I had a fish previously it was full of bones, but that was the only negative review I can give, staff are quick to serve you & the staff are polite.

Visited this place on our recent visit to Devon, and food was delicious, but no haddock on our visit but the cod was very nice

its a great place which is open most of the day. Be prepared to wait for your takeaway as food is cooked fresh. The fish and chips is delicious, one of the best around. The eating area is clean and roomy and service is friendly and good. For a good old British fish and chip meal you won’t go wrong here, plus there is a fairly good extended menu too.

Freshly cooked food and plenty of it at reasonable prices if you're not happy they will listen best in bideford but not a lot of opposition me chips get custom because of ease of location

Found it by accident as we were looking for a takeaway for tea. Ordered 2 sausage and chips meal deals and 2 fish and chips light bites. 4 meals with drinks for under £20! Decent portions and yummy chips! Would go again if we were looking for chippy tea!

Good food and friendly service. Shame they still use polystyrene and plastic packaging...would put me off going back.

It was okay food, fish and burgers were nice sizes. Chips seemed very soggy and not fresh - batter on the sausages seemed undercooked and very very oily.

We had a large order for 10 people. The serving ladies where very friendly and efficient. The portions very large and were cooked whist we waited. 1st class throughout.

Was recommended to visit here from work colleague! As i was staying on my own i didn't want to venture too far. This was without a doubt the best fish and chips id had in a long time. Huge portion but at the price with a cup of lovely tea it was worth it. Definitely needed the walk back to hotel to work it off. Lovely place lovely girl serving.

Visit this takeaway regularly. Ladies serving are friendly and helpful. Food usually cooked fresh. Wide variety of meat meals, could perhaps do with serving more vegetarian food? Only 1 veggie burger available though it’s tasty and served in delicious fresh bread roll and salad always fresh. Great value.

Couldn't fault the food or price but proprietor sat right behind us and continuously played a phone app game with very irritating sounds. Not respectful of his customers. Please consider your customers next time.

Amazing food for quite a good price no complaints

Good fish and chips but they put chips in a paper wrap and chips stick to bottom so I think they should change the packaging.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, the place was empty, but we were welcomed in and we sat in the restaurant section. Really decent plate of fish and chips, freshly cooked, batter was crispy, fish well cooked, definitely worth seeking out if your in the area.

As a fish and chip shop, it does the basics. It seems clean and tidy but the taste of the chips is not up to the same standard as Mr Chips on the quay.It has one thing going for it - there is very rarely any queue unlike MR Chips which is often very busy. Also, the owner is never the friendliest when serving you and is very protective over his toilet. Even when ordering a takeaway, he wouldn’t let my 8 year old use the toilet! As it’s for restaurant customers only! Couldn’t be bothered to argue but will be using Mr Chips in future.

Trawlers is to anyone frequenting Bideford an excellent safety a super chippy where you can eat in or takeaway lovely fish 🐟 and chips 🍟or choose from a satisfactory selection of hot 🔥 or cold drinks. On the day we came there the staff were friendly, attentive & exclusively female, which is never a bad thing.

Nice clean looking looking restaurant, inside was very clean BUT the proprietor needs to be more friendly & treat his customers better & be more civil.Our fish & chips could only be described as below average, portions were good but the chips seemed to have been kept warm for too long.During our 40 minute lunchtime meal only one other customer called in to the shop.seems the locals give this place a miss.

Restaurant area to the side. We had pie and chip lunch. Guy was OK, though not overly friendly. Meal OK but pies could have been hotter - it was straight after opening. Place seemed clean but functional rather than inviting.

First Ate here many years ago. Stopped for lunch this week. As good as we remembered! Well cooked fish, delicious chips and huge portions. Friendly service.

It was quiet when we arrived on a very hot sunny day in July 2018. Myself and my husband opted for the Deal of the Day. Which was Cod and Chips with a slice of bread and butter, portion of mushy peas and a cup of tea or coffee. They did let me swap my cup of hot drink for a cold drink.

Went here this evening, as the only time we go to eat in fish and chips is on holiday. Was impressed with the portion size and I was allowed to swap my cup of tea for a diet drink on the deal of the day order. It only loses a star cause there were so many mushy peas on the plate....and I don't like peas. The piece of code stretched the length of the plate and was tasty too. Was surprised to see this was only 77 out of 110 places to eat in the area. I would put it much higher on the list

If it wasn't so conveniently located I wouldn't use it. The food is a bit hit an miss an the foreign guy that I think might own it is really quite rude. If you have the energy, walk to Mr Chips, it's better

This place is great if you are really hungry. The portion sizes are good. On busy times expect a delay. Also if you're ordering a lot of food expect a delay. This applies to most establishments anyway. Food is tasty. Has a restaurant which is open throughout the week. Best to ring them to see whether the restaurant is open or closed. Take away is usually open from midday. See their website or Facebook page for opening times. Toilets are available for patrons of the restaurant only.

I'm not very femiliar with Bideford and this place looked alright from outside. There were people eating inside so we went in and ordered to take away. Fish was excellent, crispy and juicy. Chips bland, undercooked and dry inside. Very large portions. Curry sauce delicious but bit watery. Now the biggest disappointment...... Mushy peas... Or smoothie. Watered down so much. Tasteless.

Another visit to trawlers ..quite a long time after my first review. Very polite staff.. food was yummy and all cooked fresh. Very good portion sizes (when u are feeding a big family...big bonus!) Very clean & tidy. I will be back.

Fish and chips, a memory that lives forever, reinforced on a visit to Trawlers. With chips to spare and "Moby Dick" cod I could not have been more satisfied.

This chippie has been here for a long time - certainly before I moved to the area over 20 years ago.

Trawlers is a nice clean looking restaurant, it has plenty of seating and a good sized take away area. The food is usually to a reasonable standard, occasionally the food does seem a little more greasy than I would expect. A couple of times recently during busy times an item has been missing from my order, so just make sure everything is there before you leave.

Place and chips, plus cod chips. Nice food. Fish little greasy but nice. Our first visit to the area so no idea of where to eat before hand. Will be back. Waterfalls large clean eating area, and good for family with pram or pushchairs

Horrible avoid..refunded straight away but fish dry,batter burnt.Tasteless cod.The Fryer said there was nothing wrong with it but the taste of burnt batter was horrible.Went straight to Mr chips round corner.

Southern fried cod pieces just wow love this place

After having two previous fish and chip meals here recently, which were very nice, we took home another today and were extremely disappointed.

Call in today service was slow nobody else in the restaurant. The toilets was out of order and the girl tryed to over charge us by £10 food was ok

Así que pedimos 5 grande cod y patatas fritas para llevar y 35 minutos más tarde que es lo que conseguimos. El servicio era maleducado y no hay disculpas por los larga espera. Interesantemente, varios otros clientes vinieron y nos sirve mientras estábamos esperando nuestro gran orden. Era caro, alrededor de £8 por un gran bacalao y patatas fritas. Habiendo dicho eso. El bacalao era enorme y tenía un montón de sobras. Creo que no están configurados para grandes pedidos. Esperaba más por el precio en términos de sabor, era claramente de la media y que no volvería. Intentaremos Chips Mr la próxima vez.

Large portions and great value for money!

, I ate a few chips then went subway instead ! Naff forks and what appeared to be pepper sprinkled on my chips, probably to make them taste a little desirable. Basic crappy plain wet chips with no flavour. And the "chef" seemed like he was at a funeral ! No thankyou, just a 20 min wait for CHIPS! And sauce was 35p ...walk down the road they are 20p in the local bakery :) I'm not posh , but never trawlers again!

High quality prices but low quality food. The 'chef' was flat out rude. I will say that the place was clean but that's pretty much the only + i can give it. Much better places not a massive walk away.

Primera impresión, muy limpio, Segunda impresión, donde son los clientes? Sábado almuerzo y bien estaba lloviendo pero más personal de los clientes es ridículo. Pedimos el "especial" sí pensionistas ya sé que no pero estoy tan viejo. Un viaje rápido al retrete mientras espera la comida para llegar y de nuevo, impecable. Las patatas guisantes pescado especial es y una taza de té o café. Servido con una taza rápidamente grandes de agua caliente y una bolsa de té, así que puede preparar a la fuerza que quieras, perfecto. Me esperaba una pequeña porción por el precio, pero no, este era amplio. Bueno, la pasta de pescado era un poco grasiento, prefiero la mía en miga pero esto es rara vez una opción en Devon y reales de pescado era precioso. £17.20 para esta comida representa una muy buena relación calidad-precio y sin duda volveremos y lo recomendamos. Aprobado todo

Después de haber visitado el miércoles 10 Bideford mi amigo y yo decidimos cenar fuera. Conducimos alrededor y encontramos "Arrastreros". Parecía agradable. Fue agradable dentro y fuera, pero era un poco caro.

I visited Trawlers today for a take away cod and chips for an elderly friend the staff were very unfriendly and miserable looking if i had not already paid i would have left, the piece of cod was tiny although the chips were fine i will definitely not be returning.

El pescado y las patatas fritas en el Quayside, es bastante caro, así que fuimos a una calle que corre paralela a los arrastreros y me pareció, y me alegro de haberlo hecho. Hacen un especial para pensionistas a £5.20, que incluía té o café, y este no es el típico café instantáneo en la mayoría de cafeterías, sirve pero realizadas con café con leche adecuada en una máquina italiana baja. Ahora a la calidad de la comida, todo lo que puedo decir es que estaba recién preparado, muy sabroso y más que suficiente para mí y para mi esposa. Teníamos dos piezas de pescado cada, y no extra pequeño, las patatas fritas eran crujientes por fuera y suaves por dentro. Otras cosas nos sirven aquí también, pero no probamos, pero si vas por la calidad de los peces, me esperaba que fueran tan buenos. Los arrastreros estaba muy limpia, la señorita que nos servía era muy agradable, y nos dijo que ella era de Portugal, su inglés era perfecto. No tengo duda en recomendar este café, y sin duda vamos a volver allí la próxima en Bideford.
