Food and service were OK..feels like work in progress Still. . Still early days..we will try again in a few months

My partner and I had breakfast there this morning and it was fab, and it's very reasonably priced, lovely friendly staff too, very relaxed environment. We will definitely be going back 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

After 35 years of pubs this is the worst experience I've had. Had to return beer because it was sour and off, but the food was woefully dreadful. Never going here again. Ever. Unless new management

Dog friendly, thank you, but resident dog is over friendly and pesters dogs.

Landlords, Simon and Hannah are very friendly and welcoming. Food was tasty and cooked to perfection. The ambiance in the pub was good. Highly recommended. Dog friendly.

We popped in here by the off chance and met some lovely people and the staff were brilliant. We enjoyed our evening here particularly and vowed to stop off when ever passing in Devon. Great atmosphere, loved the vibe. Currently renovations are taking place due to this the kitchen is limited to what is being served (april/23). Best check their website for the menu or calling ahead.

Booked a table to watch the England game. Had a great table in front of the screen. The food is exceptional, I think it is better than the local Indian restaurants and I have tried them all. The pub was packed but the service from Theresa was excellent, especially as she had a couple of rowdy tables to deal with! Highly recommended.

very small restaurant at the side of the pub. It was fine. Food was good but service was strange. They brought the prossecco but the waitress said she couldn’t open it so we did it ourselves (although sue said she would get someone who could)!. The 2nd bottle she brought it already opened. The band arrived in the pub so it got a little noisy but it was ok as we knew there would be a band playing that evening. The food was good.

Very nice meal at the Back Horse - food and service was excellent. Our waitress was clearly working very hard and did so with good humour throughout. The only downside was that we were in an annexe room adjacent to a table of 20+ guys who'd clearly been on the booze for some hours, hence we couldn't really hear ourselves think. Didn't spoil the occasion (and not the venue's fault obviously), but we would have stayed longer for post-match drinks had the ambience been a little more 'relaxed' :-) No matter, we will definitely go again!

Very poor customer service and food quality was appallingly. We would never go back again. Staff are rude, have no customer service skills and know nothing about making customers feel welcomed and looked after.

I booked a table at Divo’s at The Black Horse for myself, my partner and our 4 year old son for 6pm. We arrived and were told they were fully booked and had no space for us. The lady who we spoke to was extremely rude and simply said ‘Open Table isn’t up to date’ - however, when you book a table via your website you are automatically direct to the Open Table website. If this ‘isn’t up to date’, I suggest you look into using a new booking system. We then had to leave as there was no space for us - despite having booked a table 5 hours in advance. The customer service we received from the staff was horrendous and my son left in tears. Is this how you treat your new customers? Why are you using Open Table if it doesn’t work? I also had to enter my card details in order to book a table so please ensure these details are deleted ASAP. We didn’t even receive an apology; just a woman saying ‘nah, no space’ - how rude and disgusting.

Lovely local find. Great indian food and great system in place to keep all safe. The staff are second to none, we were looked after through and through- it makes all the difference. A few other places could learn a thing or two. Keep up the great work. Look forward to our next visit. Thank you!

Food wasn’t as good as i remember it to be here. Staff was a bit thick - simple maths isn’t a thing. Quite slow process getting a beer glass. Overall quite poor.

Temperature taken on arrival, plus you’re asked to leave details or scan on the app. Escorted to table and table service all evening. Food was delicious and the staff were very attentive.

Did not feel that safe, staff walked round wearing masks incorrectly if not at all, was not reminded to scan the track and trace app upon entering and noise level in the back part where we were sat was through the roof could barely hear each other. I wouldn’t return.

The food was fantastic. Absolutely no social distancing in place. Our table was crammed right next to another table in a small room. Table was less than a metre apart so not only were we worried about social distancing but it was hard to have a conversation too.

Pathtetic. Will not recommend anybody. Service was poor. We waited for food for almost a hour and food quality is appaling

It was a lovely hot evening and we sat in the garden which looked lovely - we could almost imagine we were abroad. The food was excellent - lots of choice and superbly cooked. We will be back.

Don’t go here if you want a warm welcome from landlady who is totally without human skills .. not the bar staffs fault I might add but if you have a complaint it’s not met with the response you should expect .. Sunday Roast was dissapointing and cold

A good tradition no nonsense pub - good selection of beer - friendly staff and although we didn't eat, the menu looked good and they seem to take the food seriously.Low beams and harshly plastered walls makes for an authentic rather than over comfortable place - I personally would lose what appears to be a bubbly gum machine awkwardly positioned in the corner of the side room. If I were to imagine a pub in Great Torrington it wouldn't be too far off the Black Horse.

Had a burger off the specials board. Amazing. Good size portions and a friendly atmosphere. Well supported by the locals . I would highly recommend

Arrived here after going to another pub in the area which was disappointing to say the least,this place was a transformation and very atmospheric everything was homemade and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we left feeling very happy and shall definitely be returning when next in the area

Average food and extremely poor service. When we complained about the time it was taking for the food to arrive, (the chicken tikka masala arrived and then the naan arrived 20 mins later!!) the girl that was serving us said... “I don’t control what comes out of the kitchen and I don’t know why you’re making such a big deal about...” Not the response we had expected!! We complained to the manager and he said that he had “received several complaints!” I will definitely not be going again.

Food was very good, would certainly visit here again. Only drawback was that it was in a room away from the live music, would be nice if you could have both!

Traditional pub in the heart of Eastcote serving indian food of a high standard. Staff are friendly and inviting. Worth a try!

The food is good with no skimping on portion size and a really good range to choose from. I was in Torrington two nights and went back on my second, both nights I got one of the only free tables even though it was midweek in November! Obviously a week loved local pub, catering for those who want a friendly drink or a slap up meal.

We were passing through on way home to Kent, the landlady/barstaff were extremely friendly and very accommodating as we had our dog with us, the roast lamb was superb and extremely good value for money. I would not hesitate to call again and can recommend this pub/restaurant to all. Thank you, BS from Kent

We found this not to be a very welcoming pub. The food was reasonably priced but very average and the service was slow. It was also very noisy.

Visited here a couple of times for evening meals whilst on holiday in North Devon. The beer was good and the food delicious; generous portions and all cooked fresh. There was a good atmosphere and the staff were both friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend.

First class eatery and nice well stocked bar, and worth a visit

Enjoyed a nice meal although there was a bit of a wait due to large sudden influx of customers which we were warned about. Would go again.

A lovely friendly little pub enriched in history. Also an eating house and holds mediumship evenings.

We stayed in room one and had a ghostly experience. Something tried our door then we heard footsteps in front of us then into the bathroom then past past the bed. Very interesting as we were the only ones in the pub. Apart from that, the room was cosy the food was well cooked and tasty. We recommend the delicious and filling breakfast. The owners were very welcoming.loved the dog

What a surprise when you walk into the pub and then into the restaurant it’s like a Tardis. Old world look and candles on the tables. Service was very good and meals were excellent. When in the area we will visit again well worth a visit.

Well organised for food, food decent enough

We arrived in Torrington and didn't fancy cooking. We got a taxi into Torrington and was recommended the Black Horse pub. Staff were really friendly and welcoming, the children were no trouble and were given pictures to colour in. Nothing was too much trouble. We did actually go back and had dinner a few nights later, it was as good as the first time.

Had Sunday lunch there the menu was very poor and there where a couple of vegetarians in our group and it was Embarrassing to say the less, I will not be going there again in a hurry, and this is not the first time I’ve been disappointed here. Sadly I can not really recommend anything about this pub.

The oldest pub in Great Torrington with a lovely "local" atmosphere serving a good selection of ales, wines and spirits and very good food. Situated right in the middle of the town with limited free parking

Popped in for a quick meal on arriving in Devon for our holiday. Clearly a locals pub, and they were all really friendly . Food was great and reasonably priced.

Awful food and terrible service. Wouldn't go back again. Was expecting a lot more. Shame.

Poor service - got our order wrong multiple times, food took 90 minutes to arrive, waitress was rude when asked where is the food, the response was “in the kitchen”, cucumber for gin and tonic was soggy and shrivelled with growth on it, there were mistakes with our booking and number of people. Would never go ahead - this was for my husband’s birthday dinner which was a complete shambles.

Good place - middle of Torrington. Lovely atmosphere, historic location. Well worth a visit.

Lovely, town centre pub with lots of heritage dating back to Oliver Cromwell's time.... Topped of with a good lager and even better food...

Expensive and very poor customer service.

Good food served on hot plates. We had steak chips, mushrooms, onion rings and peas and it was lovely. A large cafeteria between two was more than enough for 2 cups each. Lemon roulade ended the most enjoyable meal, and all for under £10.Lovely staff and service, we will be going back while we are on holiday.

Popped here with a friend when we were in the area on holiday. Super food and service and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend the red lentil lasagne.

Excellent chicken roast lunch served by friendly staff in an oldy worldy pub, and at a good price. As usual I had a deco at other meals being served and they all looked delicious.

The indian food was very good and the draft beer excellent.

My Uncle-in-Law went every day to have lunch here until the day he passed away. He was always treated superbly. The visiting family not only stayed in their three rooms, but also had a superb breakfast (and yes it was big!) a family meal for eight in the evening and a sumptuous wake the following day. They really did us proud.....oh and yes the beer was pretty good too.

Rude member of staff!! We had a party of 6, we we’re advised by a member of staff that we were making too much noise! We were talking and laughing. Really don’t know how that was too much noise! We were enjoying our starters when the member of staff shouted “WOULD YOU LIKE A RECEIPT?” And turned around to look at us. We were shocked and were silent for a few minutes. I then said I think she was quite rude. The staff member then came over and said she had said it as a joke. We asked to speak to the manager and were told that the manager was not there. We spoke to another member of staff and asked for the bill as we did not feel comfortable continuing our meal at Nico’s. When asked why we explained what had happened, she said that she had said to the other member of staff that she didn’t think we had been noisy. We ended up going to another restaurant to finish our meal. The food at Nico’s was great. Shame about the member of staff.

A superb and authentic pub with really delicate food and a very kind stuff. But most of all we appreciated the extremely nice people we met there.

We are locals and use the Black Horse regularly for food. Specially on a Sunday if we can't be bothered to cook. The roast is plentiful and very good value for money. There is a warm welcome, and the lounge bar is comfortable with a good atmosphere. The best pub in Torrington by far. Come and visit and see for yourself.
