Came here with some colleagues after visiting a customer in the area, the portions are not massive but the quality is spot on, also the service is quick and friendly, will come again.

Great service from our helpful and friendly waitress. Disappointed that we weren’t able to leave her a tip but we had no cash (who does these days?) and there was no option to add it to our bill. We especially enjoyed the cod in batter, which was fresh, hot and not at all greasy.

We try to support local businesses but I’m afraid we won’t return here again. We ordered a large chips. Very disappointed with the semi cold chips which had obviously been sitting there for a while. They tasted awful and as if they had been re cooked. Not a good experience

First class Fish & Chips. Very nice starter. Long man beers. Under new management. Alex and his team doing a great job bring Trawlers reputation as a great restaurant back. We'll be back.

Having re-read my somewhat scathing review of Trawlers after my last visit several years ago I thought I had better post a new one pretty, damn quick. I vowed I would never go back after enduring sloppy fish, refried chips and a cold reception from tired, uninterested staff. So I knew it could only get better. Now we have Alex from Madeira in charge and he is the son of the gentleman who has run the Holiday Inn fish emporium at Eastbourne for many years in such good style. And this is a very decent effort. Alex has served his family apprenticeship and, a few months ago, took over Trawlers in Seaford which once had a fabulous reputation one for tasty fish but then nosedived with a succession of new owners under-performing. Imagining I was in the Holiday Inn, I placed my usual order of grilled plaice with salad or chips but it seems salad is not available yet. However, the meal was was very good indeed, just like Dad produces in that place a little way up the coast. To celebrate I added an order of Golden Syrup Sponge in custard for dessert and a bottle of pop. All good value at about £16. Apparently, steak and burgers are also available for non-fish lovers but the full menu is not yet complete. Service is good and the staff friendly and young. So well done, Alex. Dad should be proud. He's proving a 'chip' off the old block.

When other countrys look at our obsession with the great British chip shop they must surely wonder why...and unfortunately after eating a polystyrene encased offering of the chips from this once great south coast chippy I'm inclined to join them.

This was the best fish I have had for years. We used the fish and chip take away, not their restaurant . There was a big queue, but well worth the wait.

Alex and the team were very welcoming. The philippino waiter (apologies but we didn't get his name) was exceptionally welcoming and attentive. Good value fish and chips, and of a generous portion. Would highly recommend this restaurant

Visiting our friends with our grandchildren, it was suggested we went for fish and chips in the Trawers fish and chip shop. What a little gem, staff were exceedingly friendly, nothing too much trouble. The owner came and spoke to us, what a delightful young man, very hard working. The fish and chips were fabulous, the nicest I’ve had in ages, the kids enjoyed sausage and a steak burger, empty plates at the end. Hubby had scampi with salad, beautifully presented again clean plate. What a brilliant place to eat

SCAM: AVOID! We ordered two Trawler’s Specials and a kids meal, and were charged an additional drink and entire kids meal as part of a scam. After confirming we weren’t local, throughout the ‘waitress’ kept offering us ‘extras for free’. She gave my toddler daughter an extra fruit shoot (‘don’t tell management!’) and my wife a coke instead of the complimentary tea (‘don’t tell anyone!’) That turned into an extra drink and whole kids meal on the bill! They also cut the ice cream for my daughter that was part of the kids meal. When I complained, the ‘waitress’ confessed surprise and said this was just the fair charging of the restaurant! Ok, if anyone believes that I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. I’m sure if you’re local this won’t happen to you, but please please stay clear if you’re not!

Following a change of ownership we were wondering how this would be, after eating here for over thirty years. It was superb, no question. Very busy but food arrived quickly with great service. The fish was perfect!

The costumer service was very good, cooked the scampi and chips and also the two jumbo sausage in batter and chips from fresh, batter was light and crispy. Tasted lovely with thick curry sauce would definitely have again.

We visited Trawlers for Friday lunch. We received a friendly welcome and service was quick. We both had cod and chips, which were great. Trawlers is a good place to visit for traditional fish and chips.

Couldn’t have been more warm and welcoming to us on a horrid wet eve and very quickly delivered us freshly cooked delicious food. Proper traditional very good value fish and chips. Nothing lot to like! Def will be back regularly

Visiting Seaford on business this week, my daughter fancied fish and chips. As we had a long trip home in front of us and knew dinner would be very late, if at all, when we arrived home, we decided to give Trawlers restaurant a go. Due to our afternoon meeting times, we visited early at midday. Lovely lady welcomed us and offered us a choice of two tables. Hand sanitiser offered (and used) just inside door. Our immediate impression was that the restaurant was extremely clean. Orders taken quickly and efficiently. Beautiful cod and chips for my daughter. The fish was well cooked a with glorious crispy batter, spankingly fresh, beautiful large pearly white flakes and very tasty indeed. She also ordered a side of onion rings which were delicious - real rings of onion - but a very large portion indeed and sadly some were wasted. I asked if the whitebait starter could be made into a main meal and they did this for me with no problem. I suspect the little fish themselves were probably frozen but they were lightly floured before frying and were crisp and delicious. Having had a very unpleasant takeaway experience with Trawlers a couple of years ago, I am very pleased that the restaurant was able to provide such a lovely lunch at a very acceptable price. I will certainly visit the restaurant again when in Seaford. Covid precautions pretty good but I do wonder about re-usable menus Perhaps they could attach a paper version on the wall by each table so they can be read easily without needing to be handled.

This restaurant fully met my expectations; good food, excellent value, friendly and efficient service. If I ever return to Seaford, I will gladly come here again.

We had hoped to eat in the restaurant but it closes at 8 pm so at 7.30 pm sadly could not have a table. However, we instead had a take-away supper - pensioners fish and chips (2 small cod, 1 chips and 1 mushy peas) for £8.50 and extremely generous portions We add a piece of large grilled haddock - so tender and lovely to have the option of battered or grilled fish. Friendly service and highly recommended.

We visited Trawlers whilst visiting family. The menu was excellent with both battered and grilled fish options. Decor and seating was good and very clean. Portions were huge and all freshly cooked. Excellent value and will definitely visit again..

After an enjoyable couple of hours litter picking on the beach (which was practically litter free !) my friend and I worked up an appetite and asked some people to recommend a good fish and chip restaurant. We were directed to Trawlers where we had a superb meal. My grilled haddock with herbs was really succulent and the chips were really crispy. I had a reasonably priced glass of Muscadet. My friend really enjoyed her battered plaice, which looked delicious. Friendly, helpful service too. Would definitely recommend !

Our group enjoyed our lunch here, with really nicely cooked fish and chips and a good selection of drinks (it's also licensed). The restaurant is modern and clean and had the usual covid precautions (sanitiser and distanced tables). I was surprised though that the menus were re-used and the staff weren't wearing face coverings or visors.

My sister and I called in and ordered the set menu which the waitress took. She came back and said they had no rolls which were included. My sister ordered Earl grey tea. Again the girl came back and said they did not have any. My sister said don't worry just bring me a pot of hot water as I have some with me. Another lady came over and said you cannot use your own. I explained that as they were unable to provide what was listed, surely we could use our own. She was so blaze and said oh we will have to get some in. They made no apology at all, just said bakery closed today so no rolls. Surely they should have crossed all this out on menu before we were allowed to order it. I live in Seaford and will never go there again. They have lost out as have lots of friends and relatives that visit, and will not be going there.

My family and I have been ordering from Trawlers for a number of years - we always eat the grilled cod plain, the grilled haddock with herbs, mushy peas and chips. I have never been disappointed with the food, but this evening’s meal was so good that I was moved to call the restaurant and leave this review. Wow, compliments to the chef!

2 small chips and 1 steak pie and chips cost £14.90! Called the shop when we got home and they couldn't remember the order despite it being 10 mins before closing and only 30 ago since we were there. Tried explaining again and again and again, asked for prices for pies and/or chips. Just went round and round in circles. They couldn't remember the order/no order was placed. Offered to return to shop after we described ourselves ... Then the order was remembered!Plenty more chippies in Seaford... Will go elsewhere in future.(price should have been about £11 which is still pretty steep tbh)

We'd had a bracing walk and rushed back to Seaford just before Trawlers closed. Nothing was too much bother we were warmly welcomed and settled into a cosey table at the back. Both had the cod and chips special. Swapped cold drinks for the tea and coffee offered... again no problem. Choice of mushy or garden peas. Beautifully cooked and presented. High quality meal. We came here to eat lunch in the restaurant. It’s very popular with a lot of regulars, so best to reserve a table at busy times. They have a very good meal deal on the menu whereby you get a small pot of tea, roll with butter, cod, chips and peas all for under £10. My partner chose to have haddock and chips which wasn’t part of the meal deal. I expected my meal because of the price to be smaller than my partners but in fact it was the larger of the two, with a really thick piece of cod, portions are large here, but they happily put my leftovers in a box for me. Both the fish and the chips were really good, just a little under seasoned for me, however, there is salt provided on the table. Fresh lemon was a nice touch on the plate as were the little bowls of ketchup and tartare sauce. However, the tartare sauce tasted like a cheap catering one and wasn’t very nice, it’s a shame they don’t make their own which would be vastly superior. We would definitely come and eat here again whenever we fancy fish and chips.

Took my 2 kids for a Saturday lunch treat. Overall, I thought it was really good, very reasonable in price and good portions.We all had cod and chips, it was all cooked fresh and to order. The refurb is good, gives it a modern fresh feel. Will certainly be going back.

This was a big disappointment, unfortunately. Trawlers rightly had such a good name when I lived in Seaford 12 years ago and I expected to find it a great port in a storm when I unexpectedly on a Tuesday night had o drive my wife to another venue for a meeting and then find somewhere to have a solo meal. Choosing Trawlers over the neighbouring curry house (or is it Thai ?) I was encouraged to find they had rebuilt the old cafe-style eat-in part and turned it into a pukka restaurant but once inside I began to have some doubts. The door was difficult to push open, it was dark and sombre and I had to go to the counter to attract attention even though two tables were already occupied by customers. Eventually a young chap came out and did his job, asking me if he could get me a drink, showed me the menu etc. But I didn't really fancy how the (apparently) chef was handling lemons and other foodstuffs behind the scenes (yet within sight) and after I had ordered grilled plaice and chips plus peas with a bread roll and butter my worst fears were realised. How can you muck up fish n'chips ? Very easily, it seems. The plaice was thin and weedy with a durable skin and rind but no flavour. The chips appeared to have been warmed up, not freshly cooked. The peas were green bullets in a separate bowl. The glass of Merlot was Ok. The waiter was efficient and friendly enough but clearly dying to go home (at about 7.30 pm). I couldn't blame him. The bill was £14- odd all in, not too bad but double what I would have paid for an altogether superior take-away (minus the wine of course) at either the Holiday Inn (Carlisle Road, Eastbourne) or The Best Fish and Chips (Coast Road, Peacehaven) The owner of Trawlers should have a look at those places. My regret is I didn't complain when I should have done and accepted the mediocrity because I was hungry - and embarrassed. Shan't be going back.

Awful place, food was not edible, chips looked and tasted as if they had been cooked multiple times, fish had so much grease it literally ozzed out, we would have gone back but had taken it away to 'enjoy' on the seafront. Staff were not friendly to busy mouthing off about eachother and one guy who had recently lost his job by the sounds of the loud conversation, he went behind the counter into the cooking area in normal clothes...................should have left then.ADVOID.

First and last time. Ordered medium fish but so much batter it was a job to find the fish. Very little fish and dark brown in places. Chips far too greasy and lots of tiny brittle bits. Seagulls were happy though!

The worst fish and chips we've ever had, extremely greasy and bitter from over frying, black coloured, probably fried earlier and heat up throughout the day about a million times. Poor service by the staff, they offer what they have at hand and not what you want or have just ordered (!?). 'Who's the customer?' - one of the questions they can't answer for sure, but the worst thing about the place is the bad food. If there was less than a ZERO we'd probably give them that. We would never go again and do not recommend them to anyone.

Came across this place upon a break away with my other half last night. The young male waiter was absolutely rude. The lack of politeness was diabolical. Although the place is lovely itself it's because of this young 'gentlemen' we will not be returning.

The upgrade to this place is really good. Comfortable and fresh with a real seaside ambience. Smiling staff and a good selection of Fish and drinks. Not at all over priced. Since my last visit there is a marked improvement in the quality of the chips and my Hus was cooked to perfection. Much better all round and well worth a visit.

This is possibly one of the best fish and chips restaurants in the area. After recent refurbishment, the restaurant has great ambience and is a must for all visitors to Seaford.

Can you walk into Trawlers expecting to buy two medium sized cod? No...

We popped in to the Trawlers Fish & Chip Shop last Thursday and purchased a large and a medium chips. It was 1.15 pm so they were quite busy. The chips were so greasy that when we inserted the supplied wooden fork the grease just oozed out, and the oil also tasted really rancid indicating that they do not change their oil very often. Once we got outside and tried them we just put then straight in the waste bin as they were disgusting. They were the worst chips we have ever tried and I would give no stars if I could.

We travel somewhere between 60 and 70 miles one way a couple of times a year for a day out to Seaford with fish n chips lunch at Trawlers. However this time we were sorely disappointed. We saw the same lovely, friendly front of house staff who have been there for years BUT our lunch left a lot to be desired. The fish portions were smaller and consisted of mostly batter with little fish flesh and the chips were not nice at all, they were over-cooked, fatty and tepid in temperature. We will still visit Seaford for days out but it’s time to find a new venue for lunch. Something we feel very sad about as Trawlers had become a tradition with us. :-(

My friends and I stopped off here after a hike along the 7 Sisters. We were greeted by Kirstie (I think) who was very friendly and told us about the specials they had on that day. The food arrived quickly and was of a really good quality, I’d recommend the haddock! The other waitress, Ellie, was equally as friendly and even talked us into having desert! Visited Trawlers while on a day trip to seaford. From the queues that were forming outside the takeaway I was expecting good things.
