It’s the first time I’ve been at this pub, I’ve just experienced some great food, great service and lovely staff. Well worth a try if you’re looking for good food and ambiance.

The food was ok at most. Best part was the chips they were great. Biggest complaint was probably the customer service. There was a young lad with glasses who seemed like the only person there with common decency. We ordered our first drinks at the bar and weren’t asked if we wanted another one despite finishing them before our mains even came out!

My wifes meal out with freinds from the lesuire centre, Mostly OK, Decor is teird and not changed years. Food was OK, but portions were small. prices were average, except the previously mentioned Sticky pudding which was over priced and not included in any meal offers. They have tried several venues and say they would not go here again! I remember having a fillet steak here years (15 or more) ago which was excellent. But perhaps they have dropped the ball now? Finally it's not in Holmfirth it's in Brockholes, Nr Honley.

Exceptional. Good food cooked well! A pleasure to visit as always. Been a few months since my last visit, but this place gets it spot on every single time! Pub food done right! No shortcuts, nothing overly fancy and excellent real ales to accompany it. I will be back and tell all my friends and family.

Booked a funeral hot and cold buffet for 50 people, the food was really nice and well set out, a few guests later commented on how good it was with teas and coffees to follow, at just less than £16.00 a head I thought it was good value and can recommend it for such an occasion.

Saturday night meal out with the hubby. Not been for a while and I'm afraid I left feeling disappointed. First of all, without feeling ageist, I felt the youngest there (I'm 49). Veg was over done and tasteless. Lemon meringue pie looked and tasted like a box standard supermarket meringue pie....£6 a portion...wow!, Environment not very welcoming and cosy. If you were sat by the fire, you were fine, can't say for the rest of us. If you were a regular too, you were fine. Bar staff were very pleasant enough and all credit goes them. If you are a younger generation in a party of under the age of 50/60, I would not recommend here.

The food is definitely home made with twice or thrice cooked chips to die for. The attention to detail for Covid 19 regulations was excellent feeling safe within a well spaced environment. The chicken breast in a coconut and chilli sauce with just enough heat and sweetness. I had the steak lasagne, with meaty pieces of steak within the sauce and light pasta sheets. The salad was obviously very fresh and crisp.

The Travellers reopened this week. I'm a frequent guest for dinner and quiz on Wednesday. But, I was apprehensive about going given the current situation. The team couldn't have done more seating has been arranged at least 1m. Staff access to tables to serve has been done so no leaning over guests, booking is essential. One way entry and exit in operation. Met on entry for hand sanitiser and contact details, which are kept private. Shown to your table. Full table service drinks and food, blackboard menu, contactless payment at your table available. The toilet facilities have hand sanitiser on entry, inside cubicle towe and spray cleaner available for use, handwashing with soap in cubicle, freshly decorated and clean. Super facilities, one on one out in operation. Oh the food was good as usual, delicious fish and chips was last night's choice. The quiz supper is still running meat and potato pie, again with table service. This is such a gem of an eating place it needs trying, I would highly recommend previously, but on a safety standard you won't find better. The team are so friendly and helpful.

We really liked the restaurant setting - in what looked to have been an old barn, with exposed stone and a warm and homely atmosphere. There was also a good selection of real ales. But we were disappointed with the food - dishes seemed to come with a soup like bland sauce or be thickly deep-fried and really lacked in flavour. The meat was overcooked. It felt like a very outdated 70s dinning experience. Whilst there was a generous amount of potatoes and vegetables, some of the combinations seemed odd - like the thai chicken dish served with chips and veg rather than rice or noodles. As this was not at all cheap food we were sorry our initial expectations weren't met.

The food really was top notch. We stayed at the Holme Valley Camping & Caravan Park over the bank holiday weekend and were recommended this pub for a meal. 8 of us sat for Sunday lunch and the food was superb, especially my wife’s steak pie. It was just a shame there was no room for desert! The service was a mixed bag, with the young man serving at the bar coming to take our order quickly and professionally whilst another young man who served us throughout was also charming and helpful. Some of the other staff, though, had quite a lacklustre attitude. It seems some more harmonious training across all staff may be in order! This said, the food, atmosphere and attention from the majority of staff more than made up for my minor criticism. I’d highly recommend for a filling meal, especially whilst camping!

Samantha and Paul run a very tight ship and all of the staff are polite and willing to help. If you are a stake fan, this is my favourites stake in the whole of Huddersfield/Holmfirth and consistently beautiful. A lovely Sunday lunch, where the vegatables are served up in dishes and you can choose what you like and how much you need, unlike some pub restaurants that plonk all the vegetables on your plate. Beuatifully cooked vegetables, just right and not soggy nor too al dente they make you feel like a rabbit crunching away! Friendly service was reasonable for a busy Sunday lunch. Visited here on Sunday with my husband, daughter, her friend and her mum. We were ignored at the bar on arrival for a couple of minutes before shown to our table. The restaurant was busy with a nice atmosphere but quite old fashioned. After looking around at peoples plates we decided to skip starters as there looked to be plenty on them! (Not like me at all because i always choose a starter). I had beef dinner, £11.25, which came with veg, large Yorkshire pudding and new and roast potatoes which was excellent. The steak looked perfect too. We decided to choose desserts, I had cheese and biscuits (plenty of cheese) for £5.95. The other desserts were all £5.25. I would definitely return here to try something from the mouthwatering specials board (and a starter instead of dessert). Some other reviews state that it’s abit overpriced but it’s definitely not! The portion size, quality and presentation cannot be faulted.

I went here at the weekend for a family gathering. Travellers is a eating pub with a large dining area, the interior hasn't changed in many years and could do with a tidy up, it is old fashioned and tired. My fried brie starter was nice until I got to the centre which was cold and hard. Belly pork, the vegetables and chips were good, the belly pork wasn't, it was over cooked, hard and chewy, very disappointing. My wife and son had chicken which they both said wasn't great. With the mains costing around £13.00, it's not a cheap pub meal. Dessert, jam roly poly, had quite a sour taste, not much jam and watery custard On the plus side, the staff were nice and attentive. We booked a table in advance as a family of 16 to spend time with relatives who were visiting from America. At the time of booking we weren't informed that we would be sat on 2 different tables. On arrival at the pub the welcome from bar staff was lacking actually it was non existent. We went through to our table which turned out to be tables.... I approached the bar staff to ask if we could sit together (the restaurant was empty bar 2 other people) she was abrasive with a don't care attitude and had to check in the kitchen to see if our request could be accommodated, in the end we moved the furniture ourselves so we could sit together. The food on the whole was good if not on the pricey side for a 'pub', however my niece ordered a plain chicken breast and was charged £9.95! My husband ordered the chicken breast with lemon, on the order arriving it had been butterflied and hammered to a slither, all for the grand price of £12.95, after mentioning to a waitress that he wasn't happy with his order she said she would 'speak to chef' she then returned to the table on 2 more occasions before I asked her what the feedback from the kitchen was..... her reply was that chef said 'he had served 15 of those today with no complaints' if I hadn't asked for feedback we might have still been sat there now, customer service none existent- who cares what 15 others did or didn't say we weren't happy? We live very local and won't be returning again. Very disappointed.

We got to the Travellers Rest and were told , in no uncertain terms, food was at 6. Actually we only wanted to look at the menu...6pm was not a problem for eating. The staff, and management, were surly, unengaging, and basically disinterested in us. We went here after hearing several people recommend it, on a Sunday evening. The menu choice is impressive and the drinks were fine however the food wasn't great. We had the battered camembert and the black pudding fritters to start, which were okay. The main meal was unacceptable. I had a roast dinner which compromised of small, burnt roast potatoes, thick cut slices of over cooked beef, a horrible Yorkshire pudding and some thin watery gravy. It was served with a vegetable medley of carrots, cauliflower cheese, new potatoes and peas - all undercooked and cold. I ate about two mouthfuls and left it. No one came to ask if the food was okay and so at the end of the meal we informed the waitress that the food was mainly over cooked which is why I had left it all and she just said 'oh right sorry about that' and didn't offer us and didnt offer us discount on the food which should have been at least half price due to its poor quality. My partner had fish and chips - you could have used the fish as a weapon as it was so over battered and overcooked, the peas were horrible cold little frozen things- undercooked and the chips were ok.All in all the food is too expensive for the poor quality - I've had far nicer in wetherspoons and toby carveries for half the price. The service was poor in terms of dealing with a complaint and checking that the food was okay early on in the meal. There are much better pubs nearby.

We have eaten here twice this week and on both occasion's we had a very enjoyable meal. The food is good and you are given a healthy portion, also the staff are friendly and attentive. We noticed that they were willing to split one adult portion between two children which we thought better than offering a separate choice although I think that was also available

Went to the Travellers Rest on a Frieday and thought the food was really tastey and the service was good, decided to go back on the Sunday and again the food and service was good. I had the lasagna the first time and the pork belly the second time, would highly recommend the pork belly, and the home made chips are lovely.

Honestly, I can't. My family ate there last night and all of us were impressed. Menu was decent with a nice variety. Food we ordered came and all dishes were a good size and were very tasty. I had the belly pork and it was really tender - fall apart in the mouth tender.Whilst writing this I've though of a negative - the real ale selection could have been better but that could have been a question of timing rather than poor selection.

We called in at the Travellers rest for lunch on Saturday as it was recommended to us, on arrival we were greeted by a lady who looked very annoyed when we asked if they she was serving lunch. There was a group of us with children and the lady behind the bar was just so rude and seemed like she didn't really want our buisness , we were stood at the bar ordering drinks and looking for a table she asked us to move the children away from the bar area, we were only stood there a few minutues trying to find a table for the group. When we did find a table it was dirty and full of food, nobody came to clean the table so we cleaned it ourselves. When the food arrived the sandwiches were standard, the bread wasn't the best, i think the only thing that made the visit worth while was the home made chips. I would not recommend as there was no customer service and would rather enjoy lunch else where.

Food is of good quality but when we ordered a sweet it came with so little cream on the plate I could not see it. As it was very dry I asked for a bit more cream which she brought, however there was a 25p charge for it on the bill! Whenever I have asked for extra cream, custard, or gravy in any eating establishment, I have never been charged for it. Yes it is only 25p, but 2 main courses, 2 sweets, and drinks in a not so cheap restaurant to be charged this is very 'tight'. The result, we did not leave a tip, and will eat elsewhere in the future. It is the principle - not the cost as we eat out in pubs 3 times per month at least and have never come across this before.

I visit here regular and the quality of the food is always excellent and the service is always efficient and friendly. The portions are good and the homemade chips are the best in Yorkshire. This visit I had The Beer Battered Brie for starters and The Rib Eye Steak for main, cooked just how I ordered it and of course with those gorgeous chips.Great food and well worth a visit if you have never been and I will keep coming back.

Visited the Travellers Rest for mums birthday. Hadn't been for a number of years but had heard good reviews. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and left you to eat in peace without checking all was well every two minutes. The food was faultless. Very flavourful and the right temperature. Was just a shame we couldn't finish it all.

We checked the pub out for lunch 1 week before returning with an 8 strong walking group. The food and service were both excellent, and there were 3 very good real ales available. I was so surprised and pleased to receive my lasagne as a large cut square, rather than in the usual oval bowl. Much, much better. My overall impression was confirmed by the couple at the next table, who announced that they ate there every Friday, and loved the place. Finally, as others have said, the staff are also very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

First time visitors to Holmfirth but recommended this restaurant by our daughter. We were lucky to secure a booking as very busy with a couple of large parties and several other parties of 2s and 4s. We were promptly shown to our table as bar very busy. The 3 serving staff were very attentive despite being very busy and we were not kept waiting for our delicious meals. Starters of black pudding, bacon & poached egg and brie with cranberry were soon polished off as they were so tasty. For our mains we had belly pork with new potatoes & veg and steaks & ale pie with lots of homemade chips all served piping hot and delicious. Sadly we had no room left for dessert. Would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion as the atmosphere and surrounding were lovely. All the staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel very welcome

We called at The Travellers Rest for tea, I've never been before but had heard the food was good. When first entering I noticed it was very quiet but it was a Tuesday tea time. We got a nice table by the fire which was very cosy. After waiting at the bar for about 5 minutes someone came to serve us, we fancied a bottle of wine, the cheapest white wine was £16, a bit steep we thought. The menu was on a board around a corner from where we were sitting so we had to go and stand and choose our food, no big deal but it would have been nice to sit and look at a menu. Plenty of choice available and there was an early bird option. Two of us picked the steak pie, chips and veg and our other friend had the fish and leek rosti (fish cake). We didn't have two long a wait till a waitress came and put place mats on our table and condiments. The place mats were dated and made me feel like I'd gone back to the seventies!! Which if I think about it was how the whole place felt. The food was lovely, very tasty steak pie, veg and chips to die for. Proper chips! My sister gave me a taste of her fish cake which was very tasty. I can really recommend the food, big portions too. My sister ate off the early bird menu and decided to have cheese and biscuits but was told she would have to pay an extra £1.50 because it wasn't an early bird choice, although there was no mention of this on the piece of paper the deserts were written on. I would have given 5 out of 5 if the pub itself was a bit more modern. Perhaps they are trying to make it 'oldy worldy' but it didn't work for me.

Visited last Saturday for a mother/ daughter dinner for my mum's birthday, sat in the bar area which was nice and quiet when we arrived but a bit cold. Shared the beer battered brie for a starter it was so nice but could have been done a bit longer as some of it was cold. For main I had the Chicken, it comes with a sauce but as a fussy eater asked to have without which they were happy to do also had chips and a salad which was really nice. For the other main my mum had salmon potatoes and veg which she really liked as well. Didn't have a pudding as we were to full, serves was fast and the young staff were nice and friendly as was the lady behind the bar. A good price for what we had and would go again.

I came here for my 35th birthday with family. We love local and had never been before so thought we'd try it. We were blown away by the quality of the food. The service was brilliant too. It was young waiters and and waitresses, who I usually expect to be without a smile on their face and quick to get away. But the staff here were attentive, knowledgable and most important of all, had a smile on their face when they were talking to us. Me and my parter had the beef medallions off the menu. It was so tasty and tender. We both felt we'd died and gone to heaven when we took the first bite!Would definitely come again. In fact I'm going to book early for Valentine's Day.

Picked the Travellers Rest from a dogwalkers site as I needed a place to meet up with a friend whilst dogsitting for another one... it was easy to find with a decent carpark and staff were absolutely smashing - friendly and welcoming without being over the top. They very kindly sorted out a bowl of water for Molly as I'd forgotten to put hers in the van. Pub itself was clean and comfortable with a roaring fire (very nice on a cold, sleety day) and the bar menu food came in big, warming portions. Would pop back in with or without the dog if I was back that way again (though I think she made much more of an impression than I did, and certainly more friends in a very short space of time ;) If you have a quiet, well behaved animal and are after a nice spot for some basic, solid, tasty pub lunch grub a reasonable price, it's certainly a decent place to stop. I'm vege and whilst it obviously didn't cater specifically for vegetarians, there was enough on the bar menu to more than keep me happy (I don't expect a massive range from a small pub - the baked potato with cheese and garlic mushrooms was a welcome relief from the usual cheese and tomato sandwich variant.)

Visited yesterday lunchtime and had a smashing meal. Homemade pies with super pastry both steak and ale and rabbit. There were lots of other dishes to choose from including lamb shanks and belly pork however pie seemed right on a rainy Saturday. Lovely fresh veg nicely cooked and tasty gravy. We all had desserts sticky toffee pud and jam rolypoly with nice custard. They also serve the Yummy Yorkshire ice cream if you fancy something lighter. I would recommend this for anyone who likes a traditional pub with homemade grub and friendly staff.

I have now been three times to this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the food. It is reasonably priced for the quality. It would have got 5 stars but the last time we had to wait quite a long time with a 4 year old. It would have been nice if they could have brought the child's meal earlier that the rest of us. Other than that - no complaints.

Lovely starters, nice ale and friendly staff but the Sunday lunch was a tragedy. Overcooked grey roast beef which had the feel of bought in, pre-packaged meat intended for sandwiches, the Yorkshire pudding was awful and the gravy insipid. The vegetables; peas, carrots and cauliflower in a bland white sauce were reminiscent of school dinners and boiled new potatoes have no place with a Roast dinner. Poor effort. That said, the staff were friendly and the starters were well presented and very tasty, the deep fried brie was delicious and I had chicken liver parfait which was nice but unfortunately none of this made up for the awful main course. We won't be returning...

We booked a meal here after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed! The staff could not be more friendly or attentive and the bar/restaurant was so warm and welcoming as we arrived during cold, wet and windy weather. The beautiful old open fire was especially welcome. Everything we had was delicious- good quality home cooked food. We really can’t fault anything at all and will certainly be back. Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer as we had to get to an event in Holmfirth. Next time we’ll stay for pudding and a few more drinks too!

Used to frequent the Blacksmiths arms a few years ago, always busy, good food, nice atmosphere. We walked in on A Sunday evening, no one else in the pub for the two hours we were there, Service was fine, although between serving us the staff gathered round a table and played a board game.. Totally dead atmosphere.. Food was ok, at least it was hot. But it was a little bit weatherspoons.. Not the Blackers Arms I remember and loved.. I asked one of the staff what was going on and they told me it was about to be sold which would explain a lot.. Such a shame for a once great pub.. I know the owners want to keep the doors open so it makes it look like a viable business for sale but it clearly needs to be put out of its misery.. Good luck to all the staff for the future..
