Value for money, good friendly service. Would recommend. Look forward to returning in the near future.

Have been several times since it reopened. Thay have a chef who cares. Good quality food at very reasonable prices. Decent portions. Bar staff are very good , attentive without being pushy. Beer is far better than it has been for years. They obviously clean out the pump lines unlike previous owners/runners. I've been coming to this pub on and off mainly off for the last 25years. I can honestly say without any concerns it is the best it has been ran. Still needs a bit work on the decor but they are working on it. So give it a try. I defy you to be disappointed.

We popped in this afternoon after a recommendation from friends. We had our dog with us however they made us feel so welcome, they even gave Percy a “mini roast” which was so lovely of them! We’ll definitely be back and it’s nice to finally have a decent local pub in walking distance.

The pub has recently had a small refurbishment and is under new management. Popped in for a evening meal and was very impressed with the range of food available. I chose the 3 Tapas dishes for £11 which were perfectly cooked and well presented, spicy prawns, Calamari, & Halloumi fries s with a couple of dips and pitta bread. The social distancing policy is well respected and policed which made us all feel comfortable in the surroundings with plenty of hand sanitizers around. Will definitely be back soon.

We moved to Wideopen 5 years ago and paid a visit to the Travellers Rest. It was a bit rough and ready and we hadn’t been back. After seeing posts on Facebook about new management we thought we’d give it another go. We took the kids for an early tea tonight and we’re really pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and the food was tasty and really good quality. I had the vegan curry, my husband had a burger and the children polished off fish goujons and chips. We’ll definitely be back. So pleased we’ve now got a decent local family pub.

Avoid at all cost, same as the review below, fined for parking there! Absolute joke of a place, the manager obviously could not give a damn about the customers.

It's becoming the talk of the area. The owners of this business have decided to fleece their local community by putting in an automated parking system which automatically fines you unless you go directly into the pub from your car. Do not take a detour and go to the cashpoint first. You will still be charged. They defend themselves by saying there are signs in the car park. However, they are tiny and barely readable. Absolutely disgusting. So many people complaining about this.

We were NOT made to feel welcome at all, as we did not have a booking. We were sent to the bar area but the bar man’s tone made us feel like we were an inconvenience. When we went to order we had the same challenge with the bar man, when we asked if we could upgrade our fries, he flat out refused. Then whilst waiting for our drinks we had to listen to two members of staff bitching and moaning about the place. Finally when we did get our food after quite a wait, the waitress that brought the dishes was wearing so much perfume that it ended up being all we could taste for the first few mouthfuls of our food. Such a shame as the decor is lovely, the food seems very good but the staff really let the place down. I’d give it a wide berth!!

Visited for coffee and lunch. Dreadful. Terrible weak coffee wanted me to pay £4.40 for a coffee with an extra shot this would have only made you able to taste coffee. Lots of lovely places in Whitley Bay. Avoid

We often visit Tynemouth but this was our first time at Dil & the Bear. Can highly recommend. We had to sit outside because we have a dog, but that's ok as it was a sunny day and we like sitting outside anyway if we can. The cafe is lovely inside. We had great coffee and cake. We will return to this cafe next time we are in Tynemouth.
