This pub/restaurant is one of my firm favourites not just in WHITLEY but the north east generally. Lovely, friendly and attentive staff. Always a nice atmos. Well looked after. I've only ever drank here but the food looks delicious! I usually drink Amstel when i visit and its also under a fiver (just). It does get very busy so there are lots of pre bookings. But if you just want a quick drink or two you can usually find a seat or bar stool. Highly recommend

We visited as a family of two adults and two children. Booking online was easy and when we arrived the highchair was already at the table which we appreciated. Upon arrival we were informed about 10 dishes and all pizzas weren’t available which was slightly disappointing as we had booked ahead so being notified in advance of this would have been appreciated. Food and drinks came promptly and we enjoyed them all. Food was nice but not the best kebabs we’ve had (a fair amount of meat that was well cooked and everything was tasty, chips were slightly overcooked but not enough to spoil the meal, personally we would enjoy a slightly smaller flatbread and more salad). Staff were all really lovely. The venue was nice. I liked the decor and the toilets were spotlessly clean. A nice venue that we will probably revisit. Thanks 🙂

Our wonderful friend had her baby shower at Al Bear's and they were very accommodating. The venue looks very cool and quirky, was very clean and the buffet style food provided was very tasty. The drinks were fab and the handsome barman had an issue with my espresso martini tasting weirdly of oranges so threw it away and made me another one (he informed me it tasted weird so he'd clearly tried it and then threw it out and making me a fresh one which I applaud). Lovely staff, great place and fab food and drinks! Well worth a visit.

Unsure where to eat and so glad we chose AL Bear. Evening meal out on our visit to Whitley bay and came across Al Bear restaurant/Bar. . On entering we were welcomed warmly by staff and shown our seats. We had brought our small dog with us and she was also welcomed into the bar and a bowl of welcomed water given. The bar was busy when we arrived and had a steady flow of customers arriving and leaving. We would just like to thank the staff for their friendly service and for being so attentive when we were their.

Full disclosure, only ended up in Al Bear because our original choice was closed. I'm really glad it was! Al Bear is a well appointed, classy, yet cosy venue . The staff were lovely and the food matched them. We had Sunday lunch, one Super Roast and one goat's cheese and spinach pie. Both were well presented, as you can see and absolutely delicious. The veggie gray, particularly, was superb. Unfortunately we're only in Whitley Bay for a few days but if we were lucky enough to live here, Al Bear would be top of our list as a destination restaurant. Go, you won't be disappointed.

I booked Al Bear, for an evening out with workmates. Due to numbers in the party, we were asked to preorder food, which was fine, but then, in the run up, I had to contact the restaurant a few times to tweak orders, etc - at every point the communication was great and our changes acknowledged. When it came to the visit, everything was perfect, with all the specifics of the food requests, as we’d asked. Service was good and we had a really fun night, with delicious food.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left - our dining experience was top class. All thanks to Holly who warmly welcomed us and immediately took us to our table. From start to finish Holly was very attentive and extremely helpful in suggesting both food & wine from the menu - and all done with a smile. Her bubbly personality and friendly demeanour was exceptional. Without doubt her excellent work ethic contributed to our great evening. Many thanks to Holly. Booked Al bear gif Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day and I was somewhat disappointed. Staff welcoming when first arrived and seemed eager to get us to order. Meals came and I ordered the beef which was very fatty and hardly any gravy however some said chicken n lamb was fine. Waited ages to see if anyone would come to take sweet order but when I went to ask for menu still no one came. When bill came I queried what a 1.50 misc was and was told that it was a charge for extra gravy I asked for. I can not believe they are charging for extra gravy esp 1.50 for a tiny little jug which was just bigger than an egg cup and no mention in menu it would be charged extra !!!!

We booked a table for dinner on Valentine's night after previously enjoying a visit for cocktails. The table booking was for 7.30pm and we waited to be seated. After taking a drinks order, there was quite a wait for a glass of wine. The drinks arrived and even though the venue wasn't even half full, we had to try and find someone to to take our food order 40 minutes later. At 8:40pm we were still waiting for another drinks order which never arrived. The quality of the food also was disappointing for the price. A member of staff did apologise several times after realising that we were looking to settle the bill after one drink and course, but the whole experience ruined the night for us.

This venue was formerly a Pound Stretcher when I was at school and I used to pop in every weekend on a Saturday spending all my pocket money. The fact that Mandy our head girl worked their part time had nothing to do with it. When people had a few more bob in their pockets it closed down and it became Mr Petis a restaurant but due to lack of custom it soon shut down again. Thankfully a woman called Angela who owned the bar down the road called the Fox and FInch rescued this lovely building. The purpose of the visit was it was the long suffering wife's birthday with my daugher who had travelled up from London. There was a rumour going round Whitley Bay and Monkseaston that they were doing Sunday lunches as rare as finding a church that was still open for Evensong. Even Wheterspoons under Tim Martin had given up the ghost due to the preperaration time and the wastage. On entering I was informed it was table service to the left and any alcoholics had to drink on the right the dog friendly area. We opted for the right table one a nice booth which held six even though there were only three of us and room for three dogs not that we had any. As said in an earlier review Al Bear is simply the best place to open in Whitley Bay in thirty years. Whoever designed this bar and restaurant should be given the S.T.W.B award the Services To Whitley Bay. The painted pictures are breathtaking , the spray paint on the walls, the magnificent chanderliers, the authentic trees are amazing. The back ground music gives this place a great vibe. The menu was excellent as it had a variety of offerings. There were eight staters including Beetroot and Goats Cheese Salad and Wild Mushroom Bruschetta. . Any one passing from London who was a stop the oil the protester or an Eco Warrier would have been delighted. There were six extra mains fish and chips burgers and pizzas for those who don't want to upset the establishment. To top it of there was a wild Mushroom and Asparagus linguini. As all three of us had never stood in a road stopping the cars we decided to go for the Sunday lunch. The latest manager Catelyn had said her Yorkshire puddings were simply the best and I had to taste them an offer I could not refuse. My daughter went fot the shoulder of lamb with minted gravy at £15.95 myself the same but the littele bear at half the price. Both came with a huge yorkshire pudding , great roast potatoes the best and nice mash. The greens I traded off for a roast potatoe as I do not support climate change. Sadly one of our party was a Veggie yes the long suffering wife who went for sweet potatoe and spinach goats cheese pie how delightful. For deserts there was apple pie, ice cream fufge cake etc but a another pint of Stella did me. Thanks to James, Kate and Brook for making this a special day. On a different note I would like to thank the staff past and present. I discovered this bar shortly after my dad my best friend ever died of covid and they have all been very kind. First there was Nigel with a beard the first manager. He barked out orders like Captain Mainwarring saying clear table six, service table eight , to busy no cocktails for an hour it's to busy all while scratching his beard. No room for passengers Simon I will get rid of them. He had a side kick who was that popular that there were rumours that Al Bear formed a fan club. When I applied to join it was full. Perhaps she had run out of signed photos. Cannot remember her name. So get your self down to Al Bear for a great Sunday lunch it's the best.

Booked in for Sunday dinner for 4 people, 2 adults 2 kids. Very quiet when we arrived, about 7 other tables, some already had food. We ordered, food came quickly looked great, but it was only warm at best. They did check back on your table but when they did we hadn’t even really eaten anything as making sure kids were sorted. When we did let the staff know it was cold, their reply was “should have told us sooner” and nothing was done. Most of our dinner went back to the kitchen. Still hungry we got some pudding. Over all cost over £100 and was totally shambolic. Staff far too happy stood at the end of the bar chatting and complaining about how quiet it was that day. No real apology or gesture of good will.

Unfortunately not a great experience. Wasn’t very busy and took 30 minutes to get our first drinks on the table. Came the same time our food. Then our food was missing an item we ordered and nobody came to check so had to get up and tell them, then had to wait another 20 minutes for them to make it. Food was nice but unfortunately not a great service.

Came with a group of friends for bottomless brunch. Food is really good and staff were great. Only criticism, maybe sit groups who are there for bottomless brunch away from families. I know if I had been there with a young family I wouldn’t have...

I haven’t been here for quite a while but was impressed with a big change in the menu. Obviously someone has put a lot more thought into it. Two of us tried the £40 cheeky High Tea and it was delicious. We’ll presented on service...

Poor. Not terrible but poor. Plus points were cleanliness and fast, polite service. I popped in after a third awful experience at 'Beaches and Cream' next door where after 10 minutes of being ignored completely by staff I left. Firstly, 'Sea You There' has no atmosphere. However, it was very clean and I was hungry. There is a sign asking you to queue and wait to be seated. No one seated me. Eventually, I asked if I could sit down and was told yes just to sit at one of the smaller tables. No one came to take my order. Staff avoided eye contact. It was unclear if I was expected to go to the till and order. Apparently I was - don't know how I would know that. The order, avocado smash and poached eggs on toast arrived quickly. It was much less good than I could have made at home. One normal sized piece of toast and one about 20% of the size of the normal one. Bread was cheap. Toasting it had reduced it to a brittle, dry thing that completely disintegrated into dry crumbs when you cut it . Avocado ok but thinly spread. Poached eggs small, very pale yellow tiny yolks and overdone with white stringy edges. £9.35 Diet coke £3.10 I was in a hurry and just ate it but it was expensive for the poor quality of the ingredients and the cooking and presentation.
