Fantastic little place, food was amazing - the fat chips are to die for! Will try the gluten free pizzas next time

Had lunch here today very nice. The place looks amazing first time iv been in very deceiving from outside. Food was nice quite busy so 45 minute wait but were told before ordered. Friendly helpful staff. Guinness a bit expensive at 5.50 a pint and no mirror in gents toilet but had nice time and will go back.

Monday night treat with friends first visit. Impressed with the restaurant theming and appearance. Excellent staff friendly and attentive. Not to busy so quiet atmosphere. Varied menu with reasonable prices. Good bar and prompt service. Pizza kebabs burgers flatbreads, the Parmos are great and can come with a curry twist. Great evening thanks to all the staff

Had Saturday night food here, and food was delicious. Really good portions and value for money. The decor is great, modern and lively, but the staff and service let this place down. They were not on the ball with drinks, even though it was table service, we had to repeatedly go to the bar for drinks. After food, we had to go to the bar to order drinks, but the bar man brought them over to us. He walked away and I had to ask for him to take our plates/boards away, as they had been sitting there for over half an hour. I’ve been before to this place and again, food good but service bad.

We visited The Ships Cat yesterday on the 09.02.24 and was very happy with the food that came to our table,we ordered a Monkfish and King Prawn Jungle Curry and a Chicken Jungle Curry and two Drinks thanks for an enjoyable visit

We came for lunch on Sunday and were told there was a 45 minute wait for food as the kitchen was busy, but about 20 minutes after we ordered our food came out. I had the tandoori parmo which was perfectly cooked and the bechamel sauce was delicious. My partner had the chicken kebab which he also enjoyed. Would definitely recommend

Came here on Xmas eve, absolutely lush !!! food was amazing, we had a curry pizza (believe it or not) and a kebab both absolutely gorgeous!! massive portions and reasonably priced. Service lacked at the end as we waited about 15 minutes for the bill while they all chatted at the bar but that didn't affect our opinion on the place. Decor is great and I'll definitely be back.

We had Mussels which were fab. Service a bit slow but it was busy.

Great surroundings but no atmosphere. There was a long wait for food and unfortunately it turned out to be average at best. Surly overworked staff ensured that the whole experience was extremely disappointing. Draught beer choice was poor and the cocktail I had was watery and unpalatable. With the local competition I had hoped to give my guests from out of the area a more welcoming North East experience but it was not to be had at the Ships Cat!

Had planed on going somewhere else but ended up here , arrived shown up stairs to our table , drinks and food ordered not long after waited a bit to long in my opinion, there was a young lady when we arrived but then a young gent seemed to be on his own after that, this the reason I think for being slow ( slow food was not down to him) Most of our food was ok , kebabs , burger , pizza could of of been cooked a tad longer (my opinion) , I got the chicken parmo after looking at the reviews beforehand and it looked nice and saucy how ever mine wasn't unfortunately, I'm not the person to send food back ( unless the odvious) it was edible but i had to put garlic mayo on to give it some sauce, please look at my pictures and you will under stand . This was my second time dining here and my first experience brought me back .

After placing my order at the bar, I was advised it might take 45 minutes for our food. 'We're dealing with a group of 15 people upstairs". We waited ONE HOUR for two burgers and a tostie! Only one barman working, only one waitress, she was taking orders, clearing tables, delivering food. An absolute disaster on the service front. If you are going to cater for Christmas lunch groups, staff up for it..... I would not recommend lunchtime. Plenty of other alternatives on the quayside.

Wonderful evening at this amazingly warm and friendly venue.could not fault the wonderfully attentive knowledgeable staff who made recommendations for our meal and explained the ingredients of sauces ect. Cocktails were fabulous and well priced and the sharing meat platter we ordered was cooked to perfection with a good choice of meats and plenty sides.flat breads were light and fluffy warm and soft.. delicious! the ambiance was inviting and the music not too loud but helped to create a great vibe.will return again and again ..a great night enjoyed by us all. We went there for my birthday and had the sharing meat platter. It was amazing and well worth the money. Pleased we didn't have starter and no room for anything else. We had Sophie to serve us at the table and she was brilliant

What a place for a hearty lunch for two. Nice surroundings and atmosphere. Good value and a varied menu to suit all tastes. If you visit and Sophie is on duty you are in for a good laugh and excellent service she's a star.

Perfect lunch stop off during a walk along the quayside, food was lovely, staff were great, very reasonably priced, will be back! (Without the kids and to try a couple of the cocktails)

A bit sad really :( because the food here is always lovely. Website and Facebook page both state that they stop serving food at 7pm on a Friday (this surely means be seated and have your order in before 7) Called in with a friend at 6.30 on Friday night for a pizza, there were quite a few free tables we could see but we were turned away with feeble excuses and they didn't seem to care that we were inconvenienced, nor did we get an honest explanation. Must have wanted to finish work early is all i can think, but if they don't want my business i'll take it elsewhere. Simple as that!

Been here a few times, the food is always amazing, the only downside is the speed of service.

The food is good but the service was very poor. The 3 of us arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday and there were only a couple of other people in. We ordered drinks and when they arrived ordered our food. About 20 minutes later, the restaurant started to fill up. We started to notice people who arrived after us were getting served their food. When I spoke to one if the staff I was told our order will be out in 2 minutes. Over 10 minutes later the food arrived all in all about a 50 minute wait. We decided not to ask for more drinks or dessert. When I asked the waitress for the bill she asked if everything was OK. When I said the food was good but the wait was to long she just rolled her eyes and walked of after taking the payment. We ended up going to Iceland for a bottle of wine and a dessert.

Great food and choices... clean and decor was interesting. Staff were very attentive.

Fantastic experience today. Went with the wife for the first time and had the meat sharing platter with dirty fries and it was utterly outstanding. Every single part of the meal was delicious. I'll start with the steak which was perfectly cooked and rested. Juicy and packed full of flavour as we're the skewers. The buttermilk chicken goujons were equally as amazing. Succulent and crispy. The chicken wings were barbecuey and massive. That chicken must have been hitting the gym for sure! Coleslaw and dirty fries were great but couldn't finish it. 10 out of 10. Service was great so thanks to all the staff. Oh, perfect pint of guinness as well!

Really really good here! We had the meat sharer as recommended by a friend. £30 - huge - loads of meat: pulled pork, steak, lamb kebabs, butter chicken & chicken wings- all cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back!

Went for lunch with family. Lovely setting 🥰. Food was ok. More than half menu was sold out but I reckon that's our fault that didn't went earlier. Prices are ok. There was an issue with my daughter's food(hair )that was repaired without us complaining. Got a refund without a fuss or anything. Lovely place. Worth the money

Our table was dirty and chairs were covered in crumbs. The service was really slow but got all the orders right and the guy at the bar was canny. The food was mixed... OK sweet pot chips but quite soft and garlic mayo was the best ever. My chicken parmo was really dry and i struggled to cut through it. My husbands burger was super processed, overcooked and dry too. He said his slow beef, cheese and jalapeño fries were amazing so they were a winner for sure. We left our usual tip as our waitress was great just too busy for her on her own. She was running around everywhere!

I go to the Ships Cat a lot as I live close by, the fact I re-visit is enough to highlight how good it is. There are however a few cons. Pro's: the portions of food is extremely generous, the staff are friendly, the food menu is extensive with some unique items, the outdoor terrace is lovely and spacious and generally the decor is tasteful and interesting. Cons: every time I have been I am always told something I want to order is unavailable, this always seems to be the same items, steamed mussels and club Tropicana on draft (almost every time it is unavailable so I am unsure why they don't stock up more as it is clearly a popular drink). The staff can sometimes forget about you, especially when they do a sit down service. The Mac and cheese has made me feel ill before. They don't change the beers on tap so there is little diversity, the cocktails are lovely though.

Great bar great atmosphere and dog friendly we didn't get any food as they'd finished serving but seen people who had food and it looked great will have to try it out next time were down there

Booked for a family celebration 7 of us dined In arrival we were advised they had been busy all day and there were several things unavailable on the menu, all meals that included skinny fried would be served with chunky chips or sweet potato fried as skinny fries had ran out, no problem we made alternate selection ordered drinks and waited for our food And waited …. And waited After an hour the food began to arrive …. All served with skinny fries? ….. I believe our wait was due to the purchased transport and cooking of said missing fries 1 meal out of 7 was burnt to a crisp and inedible …. Could actually play a tune with cutlery on the chicken parmo The waitress was lovely and offered to replace but having waited an hour and my family already eaten I didn’t want a diet he extended wait for my replacement. Good enough the waitress removed the meal from the bill. Overall we were excited and had heard so many good things about the place but it didn’t live upto expectations. I hope my experience is a one off, I n all fairness judging by the previous reviews this place seems to have a good reputation, obviously my experience has been a one off Not sure I’ll return again to find out

We only went for a drink but it’s a lovely bar to visit. Good service but a shame they didn’t have any real ale on tap.

We come here whenever time allows. There is nothing that we like better than to sit outside in the sun, with views of the sea and a cold, cold beer in hand. It’s the ultimate relaxing venue. This visit saw the five of us take an extended lunch on a Friday. We’d pre-booked and opted to sit outside. Staff are great and quietly obliging. We ordered the meat and fisherman’s platters and two burgers. So much food and all delicious! We couldn’t come close to finishing. The Ship’s cat is really our kind of happy place. We always come away with the widest of smiles on our faces!

Came with all intentions of having the meat sharer as we’d studied the menu online before arriving. Sooo much food was amazing. Also got to box up what we didn’t eat. Wine reasonably priced and good atmosphere. Oh and the staff where great.

Unfortunately, I arrived 10 minutes before opening, and when I asked if I could wait inside the pub for it to open, I was abruptly told "NO" by someone, possibly a manager. I don't understand why I couldn’t stay in there for 10 minutes when outside was cold. When we visited here other times staff were friendly and very nice.

Called in on a Sunday and had the sharing "meat locker" platter. Can't fault it, lots of different meats and a pile of fries plenty for two and our waitress was spot on and very helpful

When the bar staff bring you the incorrect drink you waited a lifetime to order it’s not the customers fault!!! Some very rude female bar staff. I understand waitress & bar staff are busy but rudeness is not expected.

Undercooked fish, chips not very crispy and the service was absolutely shocking. Also the waiter knocked a bottle of vinegar over and it went on my shoes. No offer of any sort of refund, won't ever return in a hurry.

We were sitting outside as the weather was lovely. Once it started raining we went to ask if we can sit in but were advised all tables were full inside. There wasn't any alternative options offered. We had already ordered and asked if we could take away but due to the food we ordered, this wasn't an option as they only have pizza boxes

UPDATE. Eventually got in for a bite to eat after 1st visit 2 yrs ago. LOL 2 meals. Chicken Kebab and I had spicy Mac and cheese with buttermilk chicken. Latte and soft drink. Just under £30. Nice staff, good service. No problems. Went at about 5pm on a Monday. Quite quiet with a couple of free tables, so no wait.

Do not order the Parmo . !!!!! The worst thing on the menu . If you want a parmo go to to middlesbrough. I don't even think the chef knows what it should look like. No sauce only a little bit of melted cheese .

I know the hospitality industry is struggling for staff and hospitality is a tough job but the service staff (one in particular) were hopeless yesterday (11th June). They mince around behind the bar with no direction doing it all at their own pace (snails pace, no manager evident giving direction or telling them to prioritise serving people over polishing cutlery. When they did get around to taking order they're rude, particularly one young lady who was shockingly slow and rude. Good job the staff had no name badges, she was very acerbic and confrontational. Food was ok tbf despite the wait.

Visited for the first time and absolutely loved it. Table service for ordering and although there were a few people who had ordered food, the food came out the kitchen in speedy fashion. Considering it was a Wednesday evening, there were a few people dotted around which is always a good sign! Be mindful - kitchen staff can apparently finish around 8-8:30, so time your visit carefully to avoid disappointment. We had a burger each and my husband ordered a side of dirty fries…. Totally underestimating the size of them haha! But we certainly gave it our all to eat everything as it was so delicious! Ps - please consider doing onion rings as a side 😂🤤🤤 Highly recommend and will definitely return

I went today (03/06/23). I can honestly say this is the worst dining experience I've had for years. The food was very bland, the staff were miserable and it was only due to the fact that I'd taken my son and grandkids for a meal that I didn't make a fuss! Never ever again.

The waitress (blonde girl )was amazing!! Nothing was too much to ask. The food was delicious with enormous portions. The one issue was that weird guy with the beard who hovers at the bar but does ABSOLUTELY nothing! Doesn't smile, looks miserable and dry. He really is a bad stain on your beautiful establishment.

The vibe in here is great. The music they play I always either find myself tapping my foot along with the beat, or opening Shazam to catch a song I recognise from my childhood. While the inside and outside seating areas are comfortable and pleasant for talking to your mates (or having a quiet drink by yourself), the bar is let down by their prices. I know a bar on the fish quay is bound to have fairly pricey drinks, but regardless, im going to complain about it because I think we all like cheap booze and dislike splashing out too much. So yeah, fantastic staff, great vibe, decent cocktails, bit higher prices.

We reserved a table and it was ready for us when we arrived. The staff are very friendly and see to your every need. Our food arrived quickly and all four of us said how good it was. They also have Guinness which is an extra bonus. The place itself was nice & clean and looked great with the decorations and high ceiling. The prices were also good & we would definitely recommend it to friends.

My son took me out for my lunch and said he'd visited this place twice this month and really rated their fish n chips, so we headed to The Ships Cat for lunch. We both decided on the Fish n chips and as my son had said out came a sizable fish and chunky chips, with mushy peas, piece of lemon and tartar sauce. The fish n chips were delicious, my son couldn't even finish his plate. The menu had plenty of variety and I'll definitely be heading back with my better half to try another meal. Well worth a visit.
