Had a lovely meal with a friend tonight. We both did the curry wednesday. I had keema lamb & friend had chic pea & sweet potatoe. If i'm honest, it was luke warm but the flavours were intense, so we were both happy. The staff ŵere lovely and we also had the wine wednesday deal so all in all, a great night. Ty to all the staff including kitchen staff.

Food selection was good and when the football was on the atmosphere was buzzing. Nice friendly crowd all having a laugh. The staff Adam the manager is a decent guy runs the pub like it should be. The bar staff were quick and poured a good pint. Will return

After visiting this establishment a few times now I thought it's time for a review. The menu has a wide selection of dishes available to suit everyone's needs. The staff especially Adam the manage he makes our visit very nice. Friendly good conversation and keep the pub in tip top condition green king should realise the hard work he puts in. The younger staff are good at there job and they all work as a team. Definitely be returning

Was at the pub for the weekly quiz and to celebrate a birthday. A few more people than originally planned were able to attend that meant we needed another table to fit everyone. Ruby and her team couldn't do more to fir us all onto 2 tables (pushed together) so we could all enjoy the evening together. Service throughout the night was excellent. We used the Greene King APP to order food and drinks. The food arrived promptly and piping hot. Drinks were brought to our table within minutes of ordering on the APP. Everything delivered with a smile in a friendly manner. Food was tasty and decent value (imho). There was a quiz on the night we were there (8 of us) which the majority of the customers took part in. Great quiz suitable for all ages. Had a fantastic evening. Friends, good food, great beers, quiz, European Footy on the TV and awesome staff. What's there not to like!!!! Great evening celebrating a birthday.

Came to watch the football on Sunday with my kids and friends. What a great atmosphere and great time had by all. Massive shout out to all the staff who all worked so incredibly hard. Well done an thank you

Food was awful. Had a so called Sunday roast beef. Three tiny roast potatoes rubberised yorkshire pudding inedible beef and stringy beans. Tasted like it had been cooked in morning and microwaved a few times. Staff were indifferent and woman who greeted us just told us how much time we had to eat!! I understand they were busy, but have been to hungry horse pubs before and have to say this one was the worst I have visited. Won't be going back anytime soon.

I’ve been a couple of times, and it’s been so good but today it was just so terrible. The service was extremely slow, and none of the staff were helpful at all. The fryer had broken, so most of the food wasn’t available. The food I ordered was disgusting, the chicken was hard and I couldn’t even chew it. My friend sent hers back, and I didn’t eat mine. My partners roast dinner was cold in places, but piping hot in others (clearly been warmed up in the microwave) and the dessert we had ordered (apple crumble) and waited ages and ages for, came out and how they even served it up like that was beyond me. I only got half a refund, when I should have got a full refund. I will never ever go back, it was terrible. The pub wasn’t full as most people left due to the fact the fryer wasn’t working and they didn’t have anything really on the menu, so they had no excuse for terrible food. It was worst food I’ve ever ate.

Wasn't too busy, midweek visit, which was nice so we could have a family catch up. Unfortunately I ordered the mushroom and ale pie and received steak and ale, the pastry was lovely, but not alot of meat inside and couldn't find any staff at time to challenge. I push the couple of pieces to the side and ate on. Others had chinese banquet (banquet is over describing it though), new yorker chicken breast (yum), child's chicken nuggets. Strange that the child's meal had steak chips but the adult meals had fries, all got eaten so not a problem at all.

Nice pub with a good selection of beers and wine, excellent food also, custom car night is on every Wednesday evening 🚗

After a previous visit we were passing again yesterday and decided to pop in. We had another lovely afternoon. It was a different menu from last time but you know what you are going to get from Hungry Horse. Saying that the food couldn’t have been any better. All 4 of us really enjoyed the food served up. The staff were as friendly and welcoming as before and it was great to see Adam is still running the show. I will definitely be returning.

We had a lovely dinner and our waitress, Trish, was amazing. She couldn’t do enough for us and even arranged for us to move table when we requested it. We will definitely be returning.

Great venue for reasonably priced food and excellent service whether for large groups or just a couple of you. We visit regularly with family, friends and the neighbours

Food was good. Service was fairly quick. There was a group sat behind us in the eating area that were absolutely more suited to the bar area and were very loud. Was hard to hear people sat opposite. Not moaning just maybe could have been placed better. Staff as always were very friendly and quick to tidy away etc.

A fantastic place to eat with good atmosphere friendly staff and tasty food everything we ordered came out in good time. the portion sizes are pretty large apart from the chips that come with the burger, however the burger more than made up for it and everything tasted fresh, also a good selection of sauces and clean cutlery

Had a great get together with family in July. Food and drinks were excellent and the prices are very good. Had a great waitress Lucy. She was very helpful. Would highly recommend

Some of our food was poor we had 2 portions of the impossible nuggets and what arrived was nothing like the picture on the menu, we had hot sauce and we was lucky if there was a drip of sauce on each nugget and 3 had no sauce at all, when we asked the staff if we could possibly have some extra sauce as food was dry and the food looked nothing Like the menu we was told we can pay extra for more sauce. Sold as chicken deal waste of money.

Very busy on a Friday, food is OK. Plenty of parking but nowhere to sit unless you've booked in advance.

Only downside is the lack of signage for the parking how it reads is you pay for parking before you go in but you can register your reg number as a paying customer and not pay the car parking charge

Group of ten friends meeting up for fortnightly get together. Staff are always there to help with a smile on their faces. Trish is there to see if we need anything is always polite and happy. We had a good evening and will be back in two weeks. I might even pop in just for a beer or two.

A bit disappointed that they don't have a waitress service any more.

Been here a few times with friends really nice place for a lunch and beer and chat. Nice friendly staff

Normally have breakfast here but today bacon very fatty, sausages were not hot, mushrooms were like bullets and hash browns were very greasy, people sitting on nearby table complained too and left most of theirs too, had upset stomach as soon as got home and my partner felt very sick so very disappointing. It wasn’t good and normally is so not sure as to why it was awful today and has put us off going back.

Visited to have some food and drinks after a charity run. Was rudely greeted by a staff member unimpressed the 8 of us were at two unreserved tables of 4 and told we must stay seated at all times very sternly. If anyone dared to stand up we was told off (quite literally yelled at) Honestly never seen anything like it. I wish I could say a single staff member was polite but the lady who banned us from getting up with young kids, the gentleman who let go of the door infront of me struggling with a buggy and the other who said I’m a bit busy when I politely requested a spoon for my child’s beans made this a awful experience. Seems to be fine if you are a regular but not if you are from out of area.

Popped in with a friend and everyone was so welcoming. Ruby happily served our drinks. Adam came and checked that we had everything we needed and kai brought us our food. The food was hot and came out with not much of a wait. Stephen and Mark did a great job and we will definitely be returning.

The Travellers Joy is easily my favourite pub in Essex, always got the best vibes, great food, and the team are lovely. Lucy is often my waitress, and she’s an absolute diamond! Pub is spotless too x

Went there Sunday for lunch must be the worst one came out of the microwave gravy all congealed on top of meat veg it nice Yorkshire all soggy never go there again asked gin with no ice and a dash of lemonade got large glass full of ice and lemonade could not even taste the gin and I had a large one to top it off the football was not great as well

Hadn't been here in years! Great atmosphere and modern. We had 4 adults and 2 kids in our party. Food was mostly good apart from the frozen veg 😅 And service was friendly but you could tell they were short staffed as tables weren't being cleared until the next course was being served. Won't deter me from coming back.

The lady manager was very rude to her customers and her staff that were doing a great job considering they were understaffed!the outside area was shut and has been needing work done for years.overall very depressing

6 of us went for a bday meal. 2x steaks rare, both couldnt get the fork into the meat it was like rubber. 3x burger/mixed grill dishes. Burgers rock solid lettuce brown edges. 1x chicken fajita thing. Only one that ate the whole meal. Been 2x before it wasnt great but drinks were cheap

Food was microwaved and not fresh Following their response it won't let me reply, however when ordering a pie I expect a crust to be crusty and not soft and foamy

First time visit. Standard good quality Greene King food with good selection of drinks. Very good value, each day has a different special discount. Unusually quiet for a Sunday evening, not complaining but I expected it to be busier.

I had vegan lasagne and chips and the lasagne wasn't great. It was the thinnest lasagne I have ever seen, and it was very over microwaved. I followed it with plant based crumble with ice-cream which was ok, but again over microwaved. We had to wait ages for my friend's meal so I had to eat mine or it would have gotten cold, so that spoilt the meal as well. Also I would have liked a latte but there was no soya milk! Surely if you are going to offer plant based food, you should have plant based milk? So not very impressed.

We went as a table of 11 adults & 6 children - staff were friendly & helpfull - Manager was friendly & working hard to make sure everyone was happy - food was delicious & all came out at the same time & hot - so we were all eating together - would we go back? - definately yes.

Went for a meal sunday 14 of us had a lovely time, all the staff super helpful Kai and Harry always happy to help, and the manager Ruby super accomodating even though shes on crutches. Great value and great servive best place for large bookings. Will be back soon

Always a pleasure to come to the pub when I see my family for lunch or dinner. Took my mum for early Mother's Day lunch. Booked table and was pram friendly for us to do. Staff polite and pub was quiet and empty. Food came fast and was delicious. A nice place for a family get together if you ever want a place for a family meal. No problems with ordering. Lovely staff :)

Oh dear..... Went early evening with the children not used a hungry horse in a few years, ordered children's meal deals along with adult meal. I appreciate they are basically micro wave meals but the adult one could have been hot rather than warm. Once the children had finished mains I went to get their ice creams and was asked for payment. Having ordered child meal deals dessert is included. So my order was not taken & put through correctly, not my error, but I felt I was in the wrong. Manager did apologise said I'm not the first & won't be the last that's happened to. BE AWARE you must order everything at once. Maybe the pub chain needs to make that clear on the menu card & get staff to check when taking orders. Won't be back in a hurry, plenty of nice pubs in the area.

Owen is the most attentive staff member I have seen at this chain, his unbelievable attitude and customer service is second to none I will be returning to this pub due to his unbelievable attention to detail

Had food here last september. Since then I've been harassed by the car park company to pay a fine. Would help if the staff would inform the customers about these unlawful parking fines before hand. As I paid in cash I do not have proof of my visit. Shocking

Went there on Sunday 31st March had a roast dinner the vegetables were hard the beef was chewy and the Yorkshire well it was a lump of dough it was a job to swallow I didn't know a roast could go so wrong

We thought we would take a walk to our local as it was St Patrick’s day- we walked through the back entrance up the ramp because we had a pram but didn’t realise half the outside was shut off because it was “unfit for purpose” (their words) by that time it wasn’t worth turning back and going through the front. As soon as we walked in we were jumped on by the waitress for coming in the supposed wrong entrance with a pram- she made us feel as if we shouldn’t be there and then proceeded to say there were no tables. I asked her if we were ok to just have a drink in the family bar- she continued rudely to mention that it would be difficult for her because we had a pram. The pub was hardly busy at this point and I managed to put the pram in a tucked away corner completely out of the way- I asked her if this was ok (not expecting her to still continue with the same rhetoric) and she continued to go on and mention that if it got busy (which it weren’t at that point) the pram cannot be in the way, she was super passive aggressive. It’s NOT a family friendly pub- I’ve been on a few occasions now and been made to feel the same as we are just in the way. Being genuinely kind and polite really doesn’t cost much. That whole ordeal was so so unnecessary on her part! We managed to book a table online- about 45-1hr later which was fine but this was never offered to us which proves she was just being difficult for the sake of it. Every other part of the service was absolutely great. I really hope she reads this and realises she could have handled that so much differently with a completely different outcome.
