Trading Post Coffee Roasters in Brighton and Hove

Stopped off for a refuel and to escape a street parade. Plenty of seating both up and downstairs. Shop was busy and there was a steady queue of customers. Bought a pastry and a coffee. Was given a numbered cup and told the server where I would be seated. There was a lot food choices but was only on a brief visit so did not try any. Didn't think the pricing for two items was extortionate, unlike another well known coffee shop. Pastry was a bit stale which was a shame. Coffee was good though and liked how it was served in a glass, not a coffee cup. Cute! ☺️

The English breakfast we ordered me and my daughter was disappointed and disgusting. The pouch egg was hard, the bacon was hard like stone, the sausage was like rubber and as if it been cooked from yesterday. The bread was too soft and watery. Poor quality and very expensive. I won't return back and I'm going to tell my friends not to go. The staff also don't care, they heard us not happy and they never bothered to come to ask to see what's wrong. Don't go there! It ruined our morning.

A purely Brighton experience. I will regret paying to come here for the rest of my life. The mango tale smoothie was simply undrinkable. A feeling of freshly cut grass. Then the apple juice was a disappointment, as if an unripe apple had been blended and then mixed with water. To finish, the ice tea had a taste of rum but without alcohol, in short, unbearable. Only the coffees were successful, but hey I'm not going to applaud a café for its coffee, fortunately they were successful. In short, pitiful and to be avoided unless you are a bohemian or an eco-friendly who campaigns against pesticides.

We came in as a group of 11 and all of the coffees had gorgeous latte art despite the really fast service and my iced latte was super yummy. Impressive and so much space, still a cozy atmosphere. Will definitely come back

Clearly a very popular coffee shop, little bit of a queue to wait but got through quickly. Everyone was super nice and took the time to explain the coffee and its origins. Double espresso from Costa Rica: a very well-made coffee, with strong chocolate flavours. Think a medium dark roast, lovely espresso!

Had such a lovely time coming here for a coffee and catch up with a mate - was asking the lovely Delilah on the till about all the different coffees and loved the fact you could chose your coffee, she was very knowledgeable and helpful !

I recently moved to Brighton & love exploring the N.Laines . This is such a great place to stop into for coffee, and also has superb food. I love the poached eggs, avocado & halloumi. The staff are always really friendly & fun. Delilah makes the BEST cappuccinos!

I love Trading Post. This location is perfect being right in the laines and the service is always impeccable. The pancakes are SO good and the baristas always know what coffee to recommended depending on the drink I want.

Terrible. Don’t bother coming here. Staff was absolutely awful, trying to get us to order as quickly as possible and not giving us any time to think, bombarding with “is that all?” every minute. Order was wrong, waited 15 minutes and then got only half of what I ordered. Never again

Odio pensar cuánto dinero he gastado aquí, pero nunca más - una política estúpida en una ciudad amiga de los perros.

Se le dio la orden de bebida equivocada. Bebió un poco y notó que no sabía del todo bien y sentía náuseas. Triple comprobó que nos dieron la orden correcta, para ser recibido con las camareras diciendo que deberíamos haber comprobado cuál era cuál (lo hicimos debido a una intolerancia alimentaria). Extremadamente mala actitud y ninguna disculpa genuina por su error. Arruinaron mi mañana y mis entrañas.

Lovely staff and a good quality coffee. The only thing I wasn’t fully satisfied with is that I requested for ultra fine ground coffee for Turkish style brew but received fine ground which is good for espresso machine. Ultra fine is like dust, smooth and consistent and you wouldn’t be able to feel any rough particles when pinched and pressed with fingers 🤏

Love the whole vibe of this place sll the staff are great but one stands out daisy what a absoutle legend will never forget my experiance here!

I stopped by for an Espresso Martini, and have to say it was expertly made and utterly delicious. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up before a night out - it’s a great place to start!

Tables, cutlery and my cup was dirty and when our food arrived it was Luke warm.

cappuccino was genuinely one of the best cappuccinos I’ve ever had in my life. staff were cool and friendly. got to sit on the couch upstairs and I honestly could’ve fallen asleep it was so cosy. will definitely be returning :)

Was dog friendly… now, unfriendly. New ‘NO DOGS’ policy enforced by the manager, even for outdoor areas such as the roof terrace. Sad, as we liked it up there, won’t be able to visit any more … I wonder what happened to change their minds about dogs?

I was served by ‘Ollie’ who greeted me with ‘hello sailor’ which I thought was fun. When she asked which coffee blend I wanted she said ‘black pearrrrrrl arghhh’ like a pirate. Also very fun. 10/10.

We visited with our well behaved dog after checking online that the cafe was dog friendly. They also had a sign on the door saying dogs welcome. When we got inside a staff member said that we weren't allowed the dog but they would make an exception as it was cold outside. Later on, the dog (who has been sat silently under the table) was startled by something and so barked once. A second staff member very passive aggressively said "The dog can't be barking in here, we've made an exception for you". I'm confused why the cafe is advertised as dog friendly when it clearly isn't- even for a well-behaved dog. The food was good, but we were made to feel pretty uncomfortable.

I had an awful experience at the Trading Post on January 3rd around 4:30 PM. I brought my psychiatric service dog with me, and a staff member loudly shouted, “NO, NO, THERE ARE NO DOGS ALLOWED IN HERE,” humiliating me in front of the entire café. Despite my dog being a legal service animal under the Equality Act 2010, she was rude and dismissive, escalating the situation even as another staff member tried to help. As someone with severe anxiety, this left me shaken and triggered a panic attack. It’s shocking that a café I’ve loved for years would treat a customer with such hostility. Staff clearly need better training on disability accommodations and customer care.

My friend waited an eternity for coffee at mid day today approximately 8 minutes for a cappucino which was extremely burnt and tasteless due to the carelessness of the milk being added to the expsresso not what what you want on the first day of the year. Good ambience though

This is my FAVOURITE coffee shop in brighton hands down , great staff ,great service & just banging coffee [black pearl] . Im off for 2 days but ill see you Friday morning as usual 👍☕

Yes - 5 stars all round! We've always loved this place for their fabulous coffee and toasties, and their wonderful, wonderful staff. Today we had our first breakfast there and it was superb. As good - no - better than higher-end places we've been to recently. It might be a chain, but it doesn't feel like it.

Filthy sticky tables, Waiting 101 when customers leave; clean the tables means CLEAN the tables, staff was kind to clean it thank you, couldn't rest my hands or place my phone or book anywhere near the table until then, but expensive if you like Oat milk. 16 minute wait, nice coffee decent sized china cups. NO WIFI 😔 Crane out the window to get Starbucks WiFi.

Really lovely place, would be great to have meetings at but there's no wifi. I'd visit a lot more if they had internet

The food here is lovely, the atmosphere is amazing, they have 3 levels including a roof terrace spot as well. I had the bacon and maple pancakes, they were amazing and definitely worth their pricing, which is also quite fair.I did not have the coffee but the cups do look quite unique and I heard no complaints :) Definitely would come back again, when I next visit Brighton. 5 stars - Blake

Everyone who works here … it’s like they were built in a queer charisma factory and I couldn’t love the energy more. Come here for good cups of tea and sunshine embodied in barista form.

We only had drinks. We were outside and the staff member had gone before I noticed tea pot was chipped. Tea was ok. One of the upstairs toilets was grim with no hand towels and really badly maintained. Wasnt impressed. Visited first Sat of October. Hopefully they sort out both. My friend like their coffee

The drinks are hot barely lukewarm (it’s an ongoing problem), the matcha is bland (put a decent amount of matcha powder, please!), they never name the drinks when they bring them to you (one needs to know if they bring you dairy-free or not) and they tell you to leave the upstairs room 15 minutes before you need to (maybe I just sat there!).

The staff are a real credit to this place. The coffee is incredible quality and the service this morning was superb. Lovely lady serving coffee with a smile and a chat made all the difference. Wish I was in the area more often!

Poor value. Poached eggs on toast and I added avocado and halloumi. Only one egg. ‘Roasted tomatoes off the vine’ are in fact cold cherry tomatoes. For the best part of £15. Scrambled eggs with the full English was so small, I can well imagine that only one egg was cooked. Again, poor value for £14. Coffee was nicely done though.

The fry up was nice, but it is expensive for how much you get, the wait, and only arrived lukewarm. This is a very busy cafe in the heart of the vibrant North Laine in Brighton. This meant that most things felt a bit off for our visit because of how busy it was. It fell below the standard we have seen at other Trading Post Coffee Roaster sites. If you like the company, perhaps check how busy it is before going here or check other venues. On a sunny day it was mobbed and staff looked overwhelmed. There were wrong orders and staff generally didn't know where they were taking food and coffee to. There is a sun terrace here, but service for brunch was slow and the food arrived lukewarm. The terrace is overlooked by hungry seagulls and was a paradise for wasps. Tables were not cleared and dishes and mugs were stacked up. Realistically, I don't think they should open the terrace if it has such an impact on the quality of service provided. I will probably avoid this cafe for brunch, and only do a takeaway coffee or cake. I will stick with Trading Post's other sites in future.

Good food but their service is incredibly slow. I had to wait half an hour to the point where I had to go and check on the status of my order. I probably won’t be coming here again.

We hosted an evening event at Trading Post and we had a great experience from start to finish. The event planning team made sure everything went smoothly, including some last minute changes to our food and beverage order. We had a selection of hot and cold canapes, all of which tasted amazing. The front of house team, headed up by Oli, were fantastic on the night and made sure we all had a great time. We would definitely recommend this venue for a private party!

Nice roof terrace. Cappuccino comes in regular or large sizes. Regular is 8oz. Not thirds so too milky. Nice looking treats like millionaires, brownie, almond Bakewell etc.

Very disappointing full English... Hardly a spoonful of overcooked scrambled egg, one miniscule mushroom, toast was soggy and chewy. Barely warm....what a waste of such a great location!! Wish I'd gone to Mange Tous

I was extremely disappointed with both the service and the food, so I felt the need to share my experience. Cost: We spent around £67 for one sausage sandwich, one bacon sandwich, a bowl of bean chili, eggs Benedict, and four drinks. Food: The quality of the food was a major letdown. The sandwiches were served plain, with just meat and bread, lacking any sides or garnishes. The bean chili was so spicy that it was almost inedible. Service: We waited nearly 55 minutes for our food, without any prior notice of the long wait times when we placed our order. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place for either food or coffee.

Tried this on our trip. Love a cafe style order and pay setup. Coffee was top notch with a range to select from. Vegan breakfast was excellent I was told and my English was also v good. A step up in taste on the usual serving. The pastries and treats looked really good.

Chicken Caesar salad was tasty! Only downside was the birds outside eating the leftover food.

Loved the toasties, we got a New York deli and a ham and cheese both delicious. The iced teas and coffee we got were lovely too.

We stopped here for a croque monsieur. Deciding to share one between two was wise. The croque was splendid. A lovely bechamel sauce drew the mouth back for more outings. The allure of zingy Dijon mustard hung in the background without betraying its role. The brioche bread worked well at containing all of the ingredients. Generous helpings of ham were tucked away in between the triple-layered slices. A mighty fine croque.

My chai latte was good. Experience not so great.

Nice staff but 3£ up-charge for the berries is unacceptable. Firstly, the cashier offered adding berries without mentioning the extra cost and secondly the small amount of berries does not justify the extra money spent at all.

Took ages for the coffee to come out and it wasn’t a very nice coffee. The atmosphere is very lovely and there is a very comforting theme going on. The other problem I found was there was sugar in a jar which I found very unhygienic.

Even for a busier day their service was still pretty speedy. Food was lovely and even better enjoying it in the sun. Went for the full breakfast and sweet potato salad which i would highly recommend. Our lovely host Anushka (sorry if misspelt) was very helpful and smiley! Would recommend a stop on your day out in town.

We have visited a few times before to get a takeaway Marmite Sausage Roll which are always sensational! We had breakfast on the rooftop in the sunshine - Eggs Benedict with Bacon and Poached egg on sourdough - Both were delicious. Coffee was also very good - We will be back when we are next in Brighton.

Came to trading post in the lanes for breakfast with my friend. The service was great and staff was helpful. The presentation of our plates were good. I had a camomile tea, which was delicious and a sponge cake that was a little dry. This food was average in my opinion. i don’t really recommend seating on the outside tables with someone with food and tea pots as the tables are quite small and they bounce a little. Overall, i do recommend this place, and i might have given it xtra stars if i had eaten something different.

The coffee is ok, not the best in brighton but it's worth it because they have such a nice terrace upstairs. I've tried a few of their pastries and they're quite good. I mainly come here for coffee and because I do love the atmosphere of this place, the staff is pretty friendly, their service is always pretty quick. I have tried their different coffee blends, some are quite good, others taste a bit too bitter for me. Overall, it's a great coffee shop, in a great location, perfect for a little sweet treat and a chat with a mate.

Really yummy food and such incredible coffee. You get to pick the roast which is really cool. I had the Turkish eggs for lunch which were delicious and I would definitely recommend. Also a really good location on the lanes. We sat inside but there was also a really nice roof terrace (bit too cold for that that day though) and outdoor seating on the lanes.

My 6 year old son said it is an amazing place. Very tasty snacks, friendly service, and really good breakfasts. We come most Saturdays after swimming lessons. Great coffee too!

A great coffee at a rooftop bar, soaking in the last sunrays of the day. Impossible to not give this 5 stars. This place is a lovely chaos of people squishing in for a seat, staff not finding the people who ordered and pigeons sneaking in for some forgotten crumbs. Truely Brighton.

What an amazing find. Visiting family and dropped in here for brunch. Food was absolutely brilliant ! Coffee was as good, if not better than the commercial coffee shops (speciality roast). Although I'm not vegan I had the granola and chose coconut yoghurt. Was beautiful. The 4 of us all chose different food, and every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Staff were chatty and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you for great food and a great experience. Compliments to Zteph - 👨‍🍳 Looking forward to next time already. Would highly recommend. Linda

We popped into this cafe on Saturday morning looking for an early breakfast. The barista Jack was super friendly, offering us a selection of coffee roasts for our cappuccino. The cafe was busy and Jack handled it all with charm. We ordered a vegetarian breakfast which arrived promptly was beautifully presented and well cooked. Highly recommended.

Took them 20 -30 min to get us two cappuccinos and an almonds croissant, lovely staff but slow.

This is perfectly pleasant and in a nice spot in the North Laine. However I ordered freshly squeezed orange juice and they gave me juice that was clearly out of a long life carton.

Cute place, but there is a woman barista with a really poor attitude. Literally watched her slag me off to her co-worker as though I couldn't hear 😂 She made it very plain that she was angry and weirdly bitter. I feel like there is low morale here generally. Unreal. Not going back.

After remote working since lockdown this was a brilliant place to get together for our works Christmas Party. We were greeted with bubbles and spent the next few hours enjoying time with colleagues we hadn't seen in person for such a long time. No fighting for a place at the bar or shouting over too loud music, just chatting, laughing, dancing and eating in our own private space - it is a perfect venue if this is what you want. The food offering and the service was excellent, so much so that we will be booking our next party there very soon!

I genuinely hate leaving bad reviews but had such a bad experience today. We came out of our way to come to this coffee shop today as previously had a good coffee (we’re visiting from Oxford). Queued for 20 minutes at the counter to order to be met by the rudest female server- made no eye contact, rolled her eyes at me throughout the order, cut me off when ordering, no acknowledgment for the 20 minute wait, told me I couldn’t order waffles with syrup even though clearly on the menu- when I asked her if I was putting her out (as this is how she left me feeling) she literally shouted at me for being rude. Spent £50 on food and drink. At no point was I told by the rude member of staff that there was a wait on food. Took 30 minutes for our coffees to arrive. 45 minutes later we were still waiting for our food. Ended up having to ask for a refund as we had plans to get to. I get it was New Year’s Day, busy etc but absolutely no need for rudeness. (Relevant to the cafe on ship stree)

Have been to the Trading Post in Lewes, and as expected - really nice food, and drinks, nice atmosphere, feels cosy! However the service was pretty poor in this one, when we ordered the server wasn't very friendly and seemed in a mood :( didnt make us feel welcome at all. and when we left I smiled at her but she just glared at me. It was especially disappointing as my mum wanted to treat me and my boyfriend to a nice breakfast but we ended up feeling quite dissatisfied and wishing we had gone somewhere else

Been passed this place loads of time, always thought about popping in but it’s always been busy. Popped in today whilst passing as it didn’t seem too bad, wish we hadn’t bothered. Long wait for food, about 45 minutes to an hour, wasn’t mentioned whilst ordering. Whilst waiting one table gave up and got a refund, several other people enquiring where their food was or enquiring about missing items. Very disorganised. We ordered the bacon & maple with scrambled eggs which came zero maple on it. The eggs were nice but that’s about it. Didn’t bother mentioning it as we’d waited long enough for it. Definitely won’t be back.

Good decaf coffee. Food ok but service slow ... 45 minute wait for breakfast and then they got mine wrong. Staff were helpful though. Very noisy too. Maybe better if you sit upstairs but don't go there for the ambiance or for quiet conversation

We had a wonderful time at the Trading Post celebrating our work Christmas party last week. The hosting was brilliant and made for a really special evening. Everyone agreed that the food was delicious, and in big quantities! Also a big shoutout to the very efficient bar staff who managed to juggle multiple cocktail orders with ease. All round would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a location for a private party in the centre of town.

Loveliest staff and atmosphere, visit here a lot with my uni friends. They had an issue with the payment on the card machine and were very attentive and apologetic and they dealt with it very well. Overall would recommend to anyone in brighton esp sitting on the rooftop in summer!
