The Gladstone in Brighton and Hove

Loved this pub before they had a DnB night every other Saturday, now I love it even more!

Went for the Locally Sauced music showcase. The chicken burger was mid but it was also really cheap. Everything else was great, reasonable (for Brighton) beer prices, lovely staff, good music, the beer garden/smoking area is vibes. Nice 👍

Love the Gladstone - generally nice fun clientele and lovely bar staff. Great beer garden with various sized tables, partially covered and heaters. Good range of beverages too.

Ngl I didn't have the food at all so ignore the food rating (that's why it's 1 star). I enjoyed the overall atmosphere, ignoring the guys who started a fight 😂

Ventured to the Gladstone to see Chloe Marcela playing. First off what a voice on that young lady(yes I am biased ….she is my daughter. The pub itself is a nice and friendly, and the staff are great. I love a sense of humour so the Christmas tree in the corner with a well known brand of washing up liquid container sat on top did make me chuckle. I ordered food which absolutely blew me away. Service was a little long ( I did get an apology)but I actually didn’t mind the wait, when it arrived. It’s not Cordon Bleu it’s pub food but there was lots of it and it was fresh. It fed my daughters man mountain fiancé easily and that’s a big ask !!!. I would recommend to anyone it’s a great place to spend an evening.

Lovely roast at the Gladstone today. Decent and knock out price for Brighton. £15 is unheard of and really appreciate it. Bar and kitchen staff were lovely and the food and beer was great and we loved the old punk tunes. My parents kept saying : "I haven't heard this one in ages!!"

Great Sunday roast for all of us veggies and meat eaters alike. We were very impressed and the bar manager was extremely nice and helpful. The beer was great too.

So I got the mango cider and the Korean bbq chicken burger. I don’t know but something felt off. I am someone who rarely gets a stomach ache but I’ve been in the toilet all night and even vommited once. The mango cider wasn’t cold ( more to lukewarm) too I paid a fiver for a glass which wasn’t worth it at all. The burger is worth the price but definitely messed up my stomach. The service wasn’t student friendly as the staff did not bother to help us out of the menu. You can tell they’re catered to the regular men who came there. Anyway, lovely atmosphere and aesthetic.

The Gladdy is back !!! After the long awaited dismissal of the last manager, ( what a nobber !!) (who definitely didn't understand how to run this bastion of old school brighton pubs ) it is now under new management and what a breath of fresh air !! this place is banging once more. Great staff, regular gigs, music and real punters !! And now open past 9:00pm !! One of the best pubs in Brighton !! Always great gigs. See ya there !!! P.s. Don't vote tory, Not my king x

V good local pub with great music events. I'm very pleased not to give it an automatic 1 star for using single use plastic glasses. The service was painfully slow though. It was a busy night and frustrating to stand there watching one of the bar staff, slowly, cutting limes into quarters ... several people remarked that it was, at least, causing us to moderate our drinking. Tbh, it looked like it was lacking some to give the young bar staff a bit of advice on what to prioritise. One group near us left as they were fed up with how long it was taking not to get served and left. Shame. But, yep, usually it's much better.

We had an invitation to watch a Brazilian show! And the staff were very rude and the service was horrible

Lovely pub, this. Greeted by a lovely person behind the jump, got a delicious pint of Neck Oil, and sat in the covered area outside vaping like a happy idiot. Looks like there's a stage there or something, too, so I assume there are performances to behold there when one is not there at three in the afternoon. Good crowd. Do it.

We visited for an open mic night with my sons band. It's a great little venue with equally great service.

The brazilian food was delicious, good size portions and super tasty. Really worth the visit!!! Our drinks were served in plastic cups which wasn't great. They told us there was an event hence the plastic cups, but the dance floor was virtually empty. After eating we went to drink elsewhere to be served in proper glasses!

Must admit I had not eaten here for ages but I enjoyed the best Sunday roast I've had for a long time this weekend. Super friendly. Proper pub too. Excellent.

A well-established and well-loved Brighton pub and live music venue that caters for seasoned musicians and also emerging talent. Nice selection of drinks at the bar and the roast dinners are a 10/10. Highly recommended 👌

As a pub this is fine, probably aimed mostly at students but perfectly okay. However, I went to see a band, and I honestly don't think I've ever been to such a ridiculous venue. The toilets and entrance to garden are next to the stage (which is tiny). I'm all for more music venues in Brighton, but seriously, this is not good. Sorry to be negative ☹️

Went in the other day and got charged £2.50 for a soda water, then saw the manager laugh about it to the bar staff. Used to be one of Brighton's best pubs

New bar staff are much nicer than the previous bunch. Had 2 roasts here now from the new kitchen and gotta say they were one of the best roasts I’ve had out in Brighton - definitely recommend! They offer 2 veggie options (can be made vegan) the tofu was not the best but the nut roast was great and every other part of the roast was brilliant. staff were lovely and we will most definitely be coming back to try the burgers in the week and they also do good looking breakfasts!

Went there for a pint last week. The sing on the door informed me that they open at 12 looked at my watch itwas1205 the door was open so we went in said hello and the hungover looking bar an appeared and told us to go out side because he wasn't read yet! DISGRACEFUL. PS IT WAS RAINING

The new kitchen here is amazing! We’ve been in twice in the last few weeks for roast and no exaggeration it might be the best roast I’ve ever eaten. Every element of it is cooked to perfection and loads of flavour. I’ve heard really good stuff about the burgers too.

Omg!!! What an amazing roast. First time eating at the Gladstone and was sooooooooo happy with our meal. 6 of us eating a roast and all loved it. Great meat cooked to perfection (I had the lamb) and the best Yorkshire pudding I have ever had. Cauliflower cheese was so nice and cheesy. Would definitely get as a side. Service was also great as served super quick, and by the chef herself. All in all a solid 9.5/10 Definitely a regular on a Sunday now.

I bought a ticket to see Adrian Sherwood of On-U sound. The Gladstone is a great pub venue. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Sherwood put on a great show. Google wants me to review the food, so I guess I'll have to go back another time for that.

It's very rare to find a carribean place with good food, good service, a good atmosphere, and all at a decent price. This has all three. I went to Brighton to see some family. my uncle brought me, the Mrs, and my nephew here. Needless to say, the next time I'm here, I'm definitely heading here again. Another tip, go on a Sunday cause the roasts are amazing

Popped in for a quick beer after the football. Staff were attentive, quick to serve and the beer was decent. Didn't eat so can't comment on food.

The gladstone is a nice and friendly local pub. Nice selection of drinks and a great outside area. the music inside is a bit unnecessarily loud, however that is only a minor thing.

These guys really know how to do Great burgers. Choice of a dozen burgers, we all had beef so can't say how good the chicken fish or veggie options are. But based on ours they should be outstanding. Be hungry as the portions are big but not expensive. We are out of student terms so the pub was reasonably busy but in term time I'm sure it gets very busy. Good local ales and cider plus the usually too. Great music and friendly staff. Give it a go

The kitchen here "Union Grill" produce delicious roasts, (I recommend ordering a board which has a mixed roast), really good burgers (Monday 2 for 1) and is a great pub with regular live music and a fantastic enclosed garden! For veggies, they have a 'Mac fritter' burger made of macaroni cheese - its really good!

Drinks are approximately £1 more expensive than all other pubs in the area. Which is extra offensive as none of the outside heating works and one of the managers is consistently miserable. He should not work front of house.

I just moved into the area. Been at a hospice saying goodbye to my Mother. Popped into my local for the first time to have a glass of wine before going home to break the news to my Daughter. It was 9.30pm. The staff behind the bar said they weren’t serving anymore. I sat and had a glass of water and watched them serve pints to regulars for the next 20 mins. I wasn’t drunk, I wasn’t badly dressed. Just a normal person. Will never go in there again. Strangers unwelcome.

Fantastic pub/venue. Excellent beer garden and excellent soul food Sunday lunch. Yum. Also Fantastic music selection throughout the week. I have zero complaints about this new found pub and they will have me for a customer for some time as this place works well.

Attended a party here, great venue, lovely staff and a good band. Ample outdoor space, love to return in the warmer weather to enjoy it more.

Our annual visit (for dinner). We chose around 6 dishes, and all were excellent, especially the Thai-derived items, including a soup with seafood and Thai noodles.The total bill (for two) was around £47.00 which we thought was very reasonable. Service was very good and pretty quick. No complaints at all. Will certainly return.

Went for Sunday lunch, loved the building, very similar in style to The Lion & Lobster, but on a grander scale. We were there from 12, only a couple of other tables dining at that time. Service started off well enough, then disappeared completely after we had ordered. After 30 minutes our main courses arrived, we never saw the starter we ordered so decided to dispense with it as our mains were clearly ready. 2 had the burger, pretty underwhelming, and 1 was so black on one side that it was like crunching on charcoal. 2 had roast sirloin, the sirloin was very nicely cooked, potatoes tasty but not at all crispy, the giant yorkshire pudding was lovely (we know has we had an extra one on the side) The one with the roast was filled with all the vegetables, including a mountain of grey red cabbage, absolutely ruining what would have otherwise been a lovely yorkie. What is wrong with serving vegetables on the plate, and the yorkshire on top I have no idea. If you have a roast, order it as gluten free (which won't come with a yorkshire pud) but ask to have the yorkshire on the side, then you roast will be served in the usual manner and the yorkshire won't be ruined. Desserts were 2 tart tatins, one had to ask for a knife to get through the pastry! Mushy apple on top, nothing really resembling a tart tatin, and served with 'dairy free' ice-cream? both opted to have it with sorbet instead. No excuses for poorly executed food and service, it was early and really quiet. Love the building though so will just stick to drinks in future.

Always a good time at the Gladstone, great prices and student friendly, always nice to chat to the staff and the locals. A safe atmosphere for women and right by bus stops to campus and town.

Beautiful beer garden, little bit pricey but that's Brighton for you these days! Student deals are very good £4.50 for amstel or £3.50 for a bottle of sol. The food situation was a bit confusing, there weren't any menus around but there's a fb page about food at the Gladstone... Who knows 🤔

Looks like an old man's pub from outside but it's great once you're in. Lovely staff and cracking beer garden out the back. Will definitely be back. Didn't visit loos so can't comment.
