Fabulous fish and chips! Good for price!

Excellent food and service reasonable prices

Had two fish one chips and a curry sauce.fish was very small for price and was dry like it had been under the heater for too long. chips looked like it was all they had left and couldnt be bothered making fresh.curry sauce was lovely only they have reduced portion size.used to be best around but me and wife said we would not go back after today. Oh and i asked if they had any cakes to be told 15 mins and it was only 12.45.need to get back on track

A Bradfordian living in Norfolk for the past 18 years, I love visiting my family in Yorkshire and always try to have my "fix" of Bradford fish and chips. I have tried many of the local chippies but have found Towngate to be the friendliest in the local area. Most importantly though, I believe they also serve the best fish and chips too. I have also discovered that, having recently been tested and found to have slightly raised cholesterol, I have been able to check the nutritional values of Towngate's food on the West Yorkshire Analytical Services website. So I can now enjoy my fish and chips but still keep my saturated fats down It's a win win for me. Well done Towngate Fisheries.

Visited a couple of weeks ago, my first impressions were good! Spotlessly clean and the food looked great BUT when I tasted the fish & chips I found them very bland almost like the dripping they’d been cooked in had been completely neutralised of flavour? Certainly not the depth of flavour I’ve become accustomed to when visiting PROPER Yorkshire chippies. Vastly overpriced in my opinion, if you want superior quality and value for money get thi sen to the Jolly fryer in Huddersfield youl struggle to find better!

Excellent food, beautifully clean shop and one of the few fish shops that still cook in beef dripping.

Come here quite often food usually very good but the fish tonight was absolutely wonderful.

This fishshop was recommended to me by a friend. Lovely fish & chips and a good choice of other food like chicken nuggets. Always quick and friendly service. Recommended.

Great food & great deals too. The staff are lovely, have been going to this Fish & Chips since a toddler. But have not been for years. Now will be my goto pick up when visiting the parents in Yorkshire. Other counties need to start asking people if they would like scraps(crispy batter) with there Fish & Chips. Yum😋👍

Sorry to say now moved from idle village and I will miss my favourite fish shop , luckily come back to Bradford nearly every wk will still get my favourite special haddock and chips. Unbeatable in the area , don't trust my review call and see.

Excellent local chippy as always. The new Southern Fried Chicken range is a must-try too. I'd recommend ordering online for a pick up slot on busy nights like Friday and Saturday as you can just go and get your order straightaway instead of waiting in the super long queues! Fish and chips cooked in beef dripping and done to perfection.

Absolutely love Towngate Fisheries, always have a Haddock & Chips with Curry, sometimes ill have mushy peas. Service by the ladies always spot on, great value too..

Expensive but the food is of the highest quality

Been going here for over 20 years now. It's what I consider my "local chippy". In my opinion, it's never dipped in quality but has gotten pricier. However what isn't going up in price nowadays. Well worth a try if you haven't been.

Fish and chips is a monthly treat from Towngate . . .they are consistently good! Tonight, however, the batter was completely amazing!! If you want great quality, taste, and service then you can't go wrong!

The fish was superb being expertly cooked and the battered sausage was my wife's favourite. Much better than our last slightly disappointing takeaway.

Revisited to check out the relatively new click and collect service. Very speedy service and the food was excellent as always. Loved how fresh the fish and chips are. I was surprised to find out the mushy peas was half price today, which was excellent and impressed with the cooking oil they use for the fish and chips. The oil they use has satisfying after taste and definitely does not taste greasy.

Simply the best fish and chips around. Their new click an collect service is brilliant and runs extremely well.

We used to get them every week when we lived closer.But now always get our fish and chips from here every year when on holiday from Perth Western Australia.Fantastic fish cake and chips.

CLICK AND COLLECT has been a great during lockdown for a chippy tea before we could eat out. In fact we are still using it even though you can queue to buy. Prefer collection as its less hassle always. Friendly staff an ajways enjoyable.

Towngate Fisheries in Idle is the Best in the whole area.. we live 3 miles away and know all of the Fish n Chip Shops. The Quality is 5 Star not Greasy with Best Haddock in crispy Batter and Top quantity potatoes and fry Golden Brown.Not to be missed. Brian and Jenny

The new click and collect service during lockdown has been great. The fish and chips are always tasty, and the option of a light bite also helps, although even that is a full plate full!

Was a fan of this shop, until tonight, ordered fish n chips three times, two fine..I presume, but my portion was two thin pieces of fish battered one atop the other, and one didn't taste too good either. Both had a lot of grey protein of which should've been cut off, obviously they couldn't as there wouldn't have been any fish left. Had it been possible to take back I would've done...but then what, either my money back, or a portion to eat on my own.....doubt I'll be going back....

This is the first time I have used this fish and chip shop and the Click and Collect worked perfectly. The Special fish with chips and mushy peas with mint on were one of the best i have had for a very long time.WELL DONE to all.

This was one of the best fish & chips around. We used to go here every week. However in the last year portions are smaller, the chips you get are mostly offcuts. The older women that works there doesn’t look like she wants to be there & can come across rude when she’s under pressure. The younger staff are great & work to their best. We would rather now travel further to Murgatroyds in Yeadon even though is a little more expensive than Towngate it’s more value for money. Towngate is too expensive for what you get & at times I would question the type of fish being served?

Always a treat for a quick, quality fish& chip meal! Consistently great fish that has great batter, and not greasy! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend

Friday is treat day for my grandson and I and we love having fish and chips from your lovely shop . We can highly recommend a visit you won’t be disappointed

Love it here, We always try to support local, but this is a no brainer, simply the best fish and chips, local or otherwise!

My previous review was outstanding. This time I was underwhelmed. Asked for a battered sausage when going into the shop however had to wait for it to be cooked when got to pay and ordered. My wife loved the battered sausage however my fish was a little insipid. Really disappointed.

This was my very first visit here, I’ve been wanting to try this place for literally years, and initially been put off by parking, as it situated on the top of a very steep hill. First impressions were, a lovely modern, clean shop, with a huge visible prep area. As we were only the second customers in, the service was good, helpful, pleasant & polite, …. Maybe try a smile ! ….. We ordered Fish & Chips with a Cake, Fish Butty, small portion of Chips & two Curry Sauce, at £16.40 …. We got home to eagerly dive into our tea, …. My initial reaction was, the boxed portions were a touch on the small side, one of the fish featured a slightly soggy batter on the inside, and cooked on the outside, I personally found the chips to be quite dry, and not especially warm, the fish butty was reasonably nice, but I didn’t open it up to examine the batter, and we both found the curry sauce very different to anything we have ever tasted before, it did have quite a hot spicy kick to it, to be fair I didn’t mind it, but my partner took one taste of it and pushed it to one side. All in all, I’ve had better, and I’ve also had worse, but would I come here again for Fish & Chips ? …. Based on the portion sizes, probably NOT

Usually like this fish shop but not impressed this evening. Paid £16 for fish & chips twice and a fish butty. All the batter was really stodgy inside - a bit slimy. The fish also had still elements of silvery skin on which really put us off - a personal thing I’m aware but never had it before. It honestly just wasn’t enjoyable tonight.

We've not had food from here for a while and today's experience means it may be another long wait before we have fish & chips from here again.

I have fish and chips maybe twice a year im really not a fan so when we went here i was expecting to be blown away with all the awards they have won, i was dissapointed our chips were so dry even my 5 year old grandson left his (kids never leave chips) the batter on fish could have done with a little longer i didnt say anything to hubby at the time cos i thought he would just think i was moaning but he said it himself after tea that he didnt enloy them.

My partner and I recently visited this fish and chip shop. We had heard they fry in beef dripping. As we have never had fish and chips cooked this way before, we travelled 3 hours to try them. We were not disappointed. I thought the beef dripping really enhanced the flavour of the chips. Our food was perfectly cooked. Nice moist Haddock with crispy batter and a perfect size portion of chips. Well worth a visit and would highly recommend it.

Whilst visiting the area with the other-half we decided to call in at Towngate Fisheries for fish & chips as we hear they fry in beef dripping.

visited towngate fishries today and have got to say its the best fish and chips i have had including the scollops it actually tasted better then harrods fish and chips so clean and staff so polite lovely place to go will be coming again thankyou

We were told these were very nice fish and chips at this shop but we were very disappointed.tge fish was very small for the price and the chips were over cooked and dry.

Best priced and best takeaway value fish and chips in Idle. Always consistant, service with a smile. Living in various places in the country now my siblings and I always make a bee line for here when we are visit family at home. Never disappointed.

I was visiting the area on business, and decided to look for something in the area on TripAdvisor. Towngate Fisheries appeared to have some fantastic reviews, the website was very informative and the owner was obviously extremely passionate about every aspect of providing the best possible interpretation of traditional fish and chips. When I went to visit the shop I was certainly not disappointed. If anyone finds themselves in this area, this is definitely the place to go!

I normally love the smell of fish and chips however I am underwhelmed with the taste. Not on this occasion. Fish Fishcake and Battered Sausage were all excellent.
