Tried my first ever pickled egg here.

Very enjoyable food, freshly cooked and served with a smile and I was lucky enough to get parked right outside the door.

Demi was absolutely amazing young lady and other staff was great and pleasant and I would recommend to family and friends and I will be back

Very expensive for a fish cake butty that was poorly cooked… raw potato. and waited 20-25min. How’s that even possible Very poor

Chips have weird taste last three times I’ve been, wouldn’t know how to explain it. They where old and nearly cold. Staff really nice though. But worst chips I ever had. It could be something to do with the batch/type of potato’s.

don’t buy the mushy peas they taste exactly like the ones you can buy in a tin for about 30p. Also the fish cakes are more the size of a small scollop no where near the size of an average fish cake

Called in after school for a quick chippy tea. It was quick all food was horrible pre heated from possibly lunch time.. chunky chicken nuggets pink in the middle, chips vile... shame as it once used to be nice won't be using it again

Improved since I last came. Chips were fresh, crispy and hot. Staff were polite.

Absolutely foul taste. The chips were drenched in oil, that much so, they were all stuck together in a lump. I had a battered sausage and my wife had a battered fish cake. When we took them out of the rapper, all the batter stuck to the paper. Also had mushy peas, which had no taste at all. I will never go there again and I would advise you to stay away.

Undercooked greasy chips and fish cake batter was dry and practically inedible, prices are way to high, staff are abrupt and verging on rude and they don't take cards!... Very poor.

I am fussy about what i eat I have been going to this chippy several times a year for over 12 years.. I've never had a problem with either the fish or the chips and no they have never been soggy ... they are not meant to be I have always found the staff to be pleasant and polite ... perhaps some of the reviewers that complained about them had bad attitudes or behaved badly themselves ownership has changed and staff do change but I've no complaints about this chipy other than like most these days they do close early

Only been a single time and that was enough. Ordered scampi and chips. Scampi was burnt and the chips weren’t cooked. Disgusting service and impolite staff, never go again.

I ordered chips, fishcake and curry, got home to find mushy peas. Would have taken them back but it was snowing. Young woman serving obviously not listening.

Not a thankyou was said by the staff when taking the order, payment or giving out.

Fantastic meal. Really enjoyed it.

Staff are always friendly and food is always fresh. They always give children a lollipop on every visit which is a nice touch.

Ordered fish chips curry sauce for delivery. The fish was really small even tho I ordered a large and soggy. Cost me £18. Not worth the price at all.

started going back in a month ago ,find it a lot better,cooked perfect now and 10% off for oaps,staff very friendly not like before when they used to do square fish

The service was ok, I ordered a mini fish and it was cooked while I waited, However when I opened it a home the batter was very soggy, it stuck to the wrapping and couldn’t even scrape of with a knife, The fish itself was ok. First and last time I go there

Just called in at lunchtime today 12.40pm Tuesday April 26 2022 for take out lunch of 2 fishcakes and chips. On returning home and opening the package I was confronted with last night's rewarmed chips and "Fishcakes" with absolutely no evidence of fish whatsoever, just 2 potato scallops in each, held together with fried batter.Not only is this daylight robbery but downright illegal---Trade Description Act.The old man who was scurrying about behind the friers must have forgotten how to create a fishcake! FIRST AND LAST TIME EVER AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

This place no longer do gluten free fish & chips, glad I phoned ahead and saved myself a journey!

Lovely food, friendly staff members. You are allowed to sit in. You can never eat everything you buy but boy is it worth the money.

Advert in the star 16th march 2022 Saying top 10 fish & chip shop selling gluten free fish & chips townend fish bar was 1 of them when my partner went to get these he said they don't do gluten free So letting you ceoilac know what a joke to advertise this.

Fish batter needs to be more crispy/crunchy Other wise not bad chippy

The meat and potato pie was very nice and the pastry was fantastic.

This place must have changed hands since last time we called, the fish is frozen the batter was shocking the chips warmed up and no spicy curry won't be calling again soon.

Best fish and chips this side of Sheffield and generous with the chips, awesome portions. Also try the Irish spicy curry, very nice.

We have been using you since last Spring and we think your batter is not as good now. The last 3 times it's been soggy not crispy like it should be, the batter on the inside is not cooked.

This place has changed hand recently and it was well worth visiting again. Freshly cooked fish and the chips were very nice. Dont forget the Irish curry ,yummy. The tastiest gravy I have ever tasted from a chippy. And mushy peas to die for. Girl behind the counter needs to cheer up a bit. But highly recommended and I ll be back soon. Keep up the good work , this used to be a gold mine and busiest chippy around the area.Thx guys.

Food is nice...but they serve everyone at once and then you have to stand waiting for 20+ minutes for your food. Every other chip shop in England serves a customer and gives them their food before serving the next customer. This also means that more and more people accumulate in the shop. I was in the shop with 10+ people which makes social distancing none existent and then the chip shop is full of unhappy customers who have been waiting far too long for their food. Please serve one customer fully so they can leave before you serve the next one.....

These are the best fish and chips I've eaten in ages will definitely buy from here again,the batter was crispy and the fish was so tasty,its a shame they don't deliver

One word to describe it shocking, prices gone up quality gone down - asked for cheesy chips and they don’t do cheese what chippy dose not do cheese so got a mini fish special and the fish was tiny and very soggy then had to pay for Mayo deffo won’t be retuning

Went last week the chips were recooked dry inside awful had to throw them away if they carry on like this they deserve to close

I was disappointed with last nights performance (Friday 25th September), people were waiting for a stupid amount of time the fish were small and soggy the chips were disgusting. The best bit about last night was the two lovely girls serving they were polite and communicated with every customer well. I used to love this chippy but now I'm disappointed with the new management and their lack of communication with the customers. Never returning !!

Been a few times to this chippy as it’s my local but won’t be trying it again! The food was dry and overcooked and the chips were very scrappy. I ordered a chip butty and I literally got about 10 chips on a breadcake. Both my partner and I left our meals halfway through. Very disappointing. Change supplier or management

Went here for tea last Wednesday and i was really dissapointed. Chips tasted vile and my children didnt eat their fish as they said it wasn't nice. This place used to be fantastic and has really gone downhill, would not reccomend!

Went on Monday Fishcake fell apart and was burnt couldn't tell if it was curry or a baby had a bad tummy peas like bullets chips like toothpicks!!!Not impressed I love a good chippy meal 🤢😒

Use to go here few times a week really enjoyed the food the staff was so friendly and helpfull but recently been in a couple of times in the week but food been very dark and fishcakes were so hard went in on friday last week and this week and it was delicious think they need to keep with there weekend staff or going to loose a lot of custom

My partner has just waited half an hour for a fish cake butty and it’s burnt looks vile taste horrible and curry sauce is like water

We tried this chippy this weekend and they were the best fish & chips that we have had in ages. I cannot fault in anyway. We will certainly be having again soon.

Nuestro pedido estaba incompleto, los guisantes estaban duros, el pastel de carne estaba hecho con algo que se parecía a comida barata para perros y estaba fría. I absolutely love this chippy great staff really friendly very clean however I had a fish dinner last night night and I was really shocked the fish was awful I dknt know if its had to be sourced from another supplier due to the present circumstances but it really was awful. Really hoping it's just circumstances because it's a great chippy .

Has this shop got new owners, the fish was not the same as it used to be a, thick chunky piece, lovely white flakey fish, disappointed with today's visit.

Queueing time is terrible. They cannot multi task and take more than one order. You're not acknowledged which makes you feel unwelcome and you're kept waiting. Chips are amazing though. As is the fish when they have them.

I get this Townend Fish Bar a 1 star because the staff who serve you in that chip shop are rude and got an attitude towards their custom so if I was you I'd stay away

Always found the staff here to be friendly, I have always had excellent food from the Townend Fishbar.

Shocking in comparison to how good it used to be, what has gone wrong?Portion sizes a joke, fish is terrible and the rest of the food is already cooked sat around. Won't be going going again.

Mi familia y yo somos clientes habituales durante 4 años, ahora se ha vuelto masivo cuesta abajo, frío, asqueroso y muy caro. Las patatas fritas estaban frías y se veían poco cocinadas, la salchicha maltratada estaba asquerosa y sabía viejo no fresco. Lo único positivo fue que el pescado estaba bien. Las últimas cuatro visitas han dejado a mi familia fuera de este lugar para siempre, no volveré otra vez. Terrible.

I went in today at 11.25am and was refused to be served because they don't open until 11.30am, that's my custom lost and I've lived in this area all my life.

Fuimos un poco en busca de un chippy sin gluten, y terminamos en toda la ciudad, pero valió la pena el viaje.Habíamos telefoneado con anticipación para asegurarnos de que pudieran hacer la mezcla de pescado sin gluten, por supuesto que sí.El personal estaba dispuesto a ayudar, pescado y patatas fritas grandes - ¡mmm! No podía llevármelo a casa, así que disfrutaba sentado en el auto para cenar.Sin duda volveremos, a pesar de la unidad!

Never had any poor quality food from here the portions are stipulated on the menu and that is a good thing. Food always tastes fresh and hot. The staff including the cooks are always friendly. Worth traveling a bit further than my local chip shop.

My husband often calls on his way home from a days fishing can’t fault it unless to say fish too large for me but luckily they do a smaller version.

Desde el servicio cordial hasta la comida más sabrosa en la tienda de pescado y papas fritas, esta es una "platija" perfecta (perdón por el juego de palabras) para comer. Tienen una pequeña zona de asientos dentro de este gran Chippy. El bacalao y las salchichas rebozadas son brillantes, sabrosas y vale la pena el viaje solo por estas. Ya sea el propietario o la freidora principal que te atiende, son agradables y serviciales, y están muy agradecidos por los cumplidos que hayas recibido. Te dirán cómo hacen que sus salchichas rebozadas sean las mejores con orgullo. Amo a las personas que ponen el máximo esfuerzo, entienden el servicio al cliente y son simplemente brillantes en lo que hacen. Townend Chippy es todo lo anterior.

Open at decent hours, large menu, massive portions, excellent prices and great staff - what more do you want from a local chippy???

Their haddock is fantastic chips are crispy and not greasy, mushy peas are excellent never had a bad portion yet and staff are very pleasant

Good location food very good sometimes. Ok if you’re very hungry otherwise find another venue. As far as fish restaurants are concerned if you travel a little further you will get a lovely meal. Try Whitby’s on the parkway.

Menú muy grande con muchas opciones, menú fijo y menú para niños. Puedes llevarte o sentarte. Pedimos una tarta de pollo y champiñones con patatas fritas y salsa, un pastel de pescado y una pequeña cena de bacalao, y era algo más de 11 y había un montón de patatas fritas; suficiente para tal vez 4 personas. Estaba ocupado pero solo esperamos 5 minutos y todo el personal es muy amable. Abierto de lunes a sábado 11. De 30 a.m. a 9 p.m. (última fritada a las 8:30 p.m.) es muy útil para cuando quiere un almuerzo tardío, ya que muchas otras tiendas de pescado y patatas fritas parecen cerrarse a media tarde durante unas horas.
