Friday night it was very closed

Dropped in for a drink after an evening at the Belgrade Theatre, very unfriendly bar staff not surprised it’s closing down if that’s their idea of good service

Lovely old pub sadly closed at the moment.

I've such great memories of this pub. Gutted that it's closing

We had some wonderful ale and a fabulous meal served by lovely friendly people, we eat there fairly regularly and never had a bad meal , and if you like a good beer you can't do better ,

Like the little house in the wonderful animated film 'Up' the Town Wall Tavern (TWT) stands surrounded by modern high rise buildings and this is actually why this (very old) pub is so charming along with it's ability to deliver good food and a fantastic range of beers and ales. Set just 100 yards from the bustling Corporation street the TWT is a haven for a true Coventrian and visitor alike. With a traditional bar, lounge and quirky donkey box (a tiny bar suitable for just four or five drinkers) the overall experience is wonderful and a million miles from any other pub in the town centre. So if you want 'tradition' over 'new' then this pub is for you.

Received a warm and friendly welcome. The ale was pretty damn tasty and the atmosphere was friendly. It's a great pub to enjoy a night out.

Fabulous pub, located next door to the Belhtade theatre. Great atmosphere and good choice of beers. Often frequented by actors post show. Once used by the great Sir Ian Mckellen!

This is a pub and doesnt pretend to be anything else. Limited 'normal' menu was on offer in the run-up to Christmas. The fish and chips were excellent with delicious, creamy tartare sauce. Service was decent. Will return

What a great pub! 10 of us met up in Coventry for a 70th, we travelled there from all over the country, and this choice of pub paid off. For us oldies the best pub in the city, and there aren't many. Tucked away, cosy atmosphere with a real fire, and great beers. We all had a good lunch, watched the rugby, and stayed for 5 hours drinking the White Rat from Osset. This is how pubs should be, a throwback to a time before plush carpets, tacky furniture and restaurant type decor with piped music, screens everywhere and poor beer which has ruined most traditional pubs. Hope this gem gets the support it deserves, there aren't many left.

Waited in the lounge at the small hatch behind another customer for 5 mins. Only for the barman to ignore me and served 3 regulars in the bar. ☹️ left and went to the old windmill instead.🍻

Great pub food was great and good choices on the menu. A bit of a buzz of something going on and fruity cider! The real fires in the rooms was cosy too. Right in centre if town was a plus.

Seems like a local in the centre of Coventry staff are always friendly. They didn't have the full menu when we visited as winding it down before starting Christmas menu. Worth noting They don't allow under 18s The sweet potato soup is excellent.

Great place, could do with a couple more zero alcohol beers, is the only request. Thank you Debbie

Pre theatre hot spot. Stopped here twice before going to the Belgrade. Great food drinks and atmosphere. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. So lovely to find a little gem like this. Come early if going to the theatre as they get busy. Home made great simple food. Excellent. P

Came in here after the Hops-d'Amour nearby, and it almost felt there was more of a micropub buzz here. It's a question of layout, with the small front bar encouraging interaction and conversation. Had 4 pints here with great pleasure, chatting with various locals, and with visitors like me. Also with the landlord, a serious and interesting man, and his then new barman, a tall, fun young guy who does mountain climbing. This ancient, atmospheric little traditional pub hides just behind the Belgrave Theatre. You can miss it, but don't.

Hidden gem. Sunday roast to die for.

Centrally located old Coventry pub, with lots of character. Good selection of draught beers, and the food is good value. Internal decor is looking a bit sad and tired. It's in need of new capital investment .

The real deal. A great old fashioned town pub, with decent real ale, good pub grub, friendly staff and patrons. Me and my friends regularly sneak out at lunch for a pint and food.

Great traditional pub, the lady even opened the Donkey Bay for our party. Always great service and more importantly excellent beer!

My bestie & me come monthly, today I had the lasagne tasted lovely but would have preferred a bit more sauce.

We only called in for a pint it’s a nice traditional pub that now serves food. We did not eat on this day but will go back when next in Coventry.

Very rude staff member. I was unaware that under 18s are allowed into the pub. The scraggy haired member of staff was blunt, no under 18s on the premises. I was kind and replied OK, I didn't know. I immediately went outside with my daughter. Stopped just outside on the rear patio to put her coat on as it started to rain. He followed me out and rudely said 'no under 18s anywhere on the premises ' close proximity to me, agressive tone, glaring and just walked off. I do not and did not dispute your policy at all, but I am so disgusted with how I was treated. It was unnecessary

Traditional pub with good menu and range of beers. It might benefit from some new furniture but don't be put off, everything was clean and the food was exactly what you want from traditional pub food. Leave the chain pubs behind and discover this place a few minutes from the precinct, right behind the theatre.

Lovely staff. Friendly and funny.

Excellent pub and staff. Prices are not the cheapest but it is made up by the quality of the beer. The amount of food being served at lunchtimes speaks volumes regarding its quality. My wife loves the place. With no children of any age allowed in it is also a sea of calm, broken only by the restrained volume level of the juke box and the banter at the tables.

13th May 2023 I came here before the theatre. I had battered halloumi with chips and mushy peas. All washed down with a pint or two of Theakston OP. Delicious. Friendly welcoming staff. 2019 Nice cosy place with friendly mature clientele. Good selection of beers. Juke box has music that covers most tastes.

A great little pub right in Coventry town centre. Really tasty food with a reasonable amount of choice on the menu. Good value meals.

We haven't even left the pub but i just had to write a review straight away. This is our first time eating here and definitely won't be our last. I had the faggots with red onion gravy, chips and mushy peas and my other half had the cajun chicken goujons, with chips, salad, coleslaw and a lime and jalapeno mayo. Just wow! Presentation, flavour combinations and portion sizes are excellent. Lovely pint as well. Warm welcome and a nice cosy atmosphere on top make it well worthy of a 5 star review. Matt and his team are doing a fantastic job of keeping traditional pubs alive which is a rarity in this day and age. Top notch!

Came on a whim, and I'm so glad we did. The food is fantastic. I had fish and chips the batter was so crispy, hubby had their Beef bourguignon with veg and buttered new potatoes. My god to die for.

Had an excellent Sunday roast dinner yesterday, you could have a couple of the meats on offer I had the pork very tasty, the pub gets very busy so get there early it's very popular for the Sunday roasts, also has a lot of decent beer and ciders on draught for all your taste buds,certainly would be having a roast again many thanks 👏💯

Thoughly enjoy town wall tavern been there many years on and of met lots of friends and its nice to chat to different people would highly recommend it

A pub I definitely would not recommend working at. The landlady enjoys going out of her way to make young staff feel threatened, uncomfortable and upset. Leaving the environment is the best choice I could of made. The atmosphere is also very negative, with the landlady and her friends drinking to the point of threatening costumers with statements like “I will rip off your head and kill you”. Hopefully she seeks the help she needs so the beautiful pub can be in good hands.

A few years ago this was a lovely pub and has the potential to be one now. Unfortunately Debi (the landlady) makes it an unpleasant experience

A proper old-fashioned pub. Food here is basically pub grub: nothing wrong with that. Items selected were generally enjoyed, though the fish batter was a little greasy. Service was a little slow - but we were not in a hurry - but friendly and effective

Been playing at the Belgrade for 10 years and the Town Wall is a home away from home. Great staff, beer is looked after really well and the food is ace.

Great pub serving fantastic beer. Close to the theatre if popping in for a drink before seeing a show. Small enough pub with various rooms and seating sections. Got a bar section and lounge area. Also has an open fire for when the days are really cold. Always worth a visit for a decent beer.

Lovely pub. I particularly like the Lounge Bar at the left hand side of the pub. Great choice of real ale. They even had a Mild - I had a couple of pints of that yesterday afternoon. Well worth looking out. It's right behind the Belgrade Theatre.

Town Wall Tavern I thought i’d misread Town Hall Tavern on first seeing this bar’s name. Ir is actually quite tricky to find and entering is like walking through a time warp into the 1970’s. It is small, and quite crowded without seeming claustrophobic. It seemed just short of punters smoking Woodbines and there are some cool music sheets and show posters lining the walls. A pub that time forgot and all the better for it.

The beef and ale pie with mash and 3 veg was superb . Full of flavour and plenty of meat. Accompanied by the excellent Rev James ale.

Had cooked ham eggs and chips very tasty.

Friendly staff, lots of seating available, although the outside area doesn't have the prettiest of views.

A small pub tucked away. The staff were very friendly and there was a nice atmosphere. It was very busy and the food looked great.

Brilliant Bass as ever and service with a smile. Nice ham sandwich went down well as a break between visiting two attractions. Highly recommended.

Lovely, friendly inner City pub. Cosy and warm. Traditional food, we had a lovely Fish Finger butty! You can't beat a fish finger butty EVER!
