Close for football and used for away fans..Rough and ready but staff were sound and soldiered through with being surprised by amount of people were there and wanting served in short space of time.

New owners, really friendly and welcoming. Place definitely cleaner and service much better. Didn't eat, but food coming out of the kitchen did look lovely, so I definitely will be giving it a try

Ate here yesterday with my sister the food was honestly so delicious, cooked immaculate. Cheap prices too. I had a cheese burger and nachos and it was spot on! The chef even bought it over herself, she was lovely and was the food x

Really nice view of the canal, could do really well, but never the right owners, no food yet again, bar staff had to call someone to come in to cook food, then the order wasn't right and some foods not available, limited menu so why is this. Need to have owners that care and want to improve the pub,

Great pub on the canal side. Attending match at the Arena. Made very welcome. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Facilities OK but need a bit of TLC. Food served but we did not buy on this occasion. Good car parking.

No real ale, but Bierra Moretti and the damn Madri. Nice pint of Guinness. Blackcurrant and Soda. Reasonable price. No issues for Watford away football fans. Near M6 car parking.

I have ordered takeaway Sunday lunch with them twice now and 1st occasion it turned up looking like the delivery driver had been on a rollercoaster on route but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.ordered again but this time it was cold tasteless with no stuffing and 1 spoonful of gravy if that.i contacted them via there Facebook page and attitude was "we ll give u half price next time"and the attitude was rubbish.when I complained this time I got a message to say.if u don't like it delete our page 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Went to have a pint with the misses first time out on our new moped .5 mins after sitting down 4 lads on 2 motorbikes pulled in and tried taking my new bike luckily I was alert and ran out to stop them .they fled on 2 bikes up Longford road ..

I was in the engine before going 2 watch rammstein at cbs arena.beer was good and reasonably priced.i have 2 give a big shout out 2 bar staff & gaffe as there were a lot of metal fans in & they turned the juke box up loud 4 us.thank u

Came here for mothers day dinner, the food was lovely but the service was shocking, took ages for food to come out took ages to get served ordered pudding supposed to chocolate fudge cake it was chocolate sponge cake with chocolate sauce and it took forever to come out won't be coming back

Lovely old fashioned home cooked food and plenty of it. Good price and you won't be going hungry afterwards, service with a smile.....

Seen live music, local band the smashed vinyls, just great as it should be, loud and people, just havin it!!!! Good bar service to boot 👍🍻

Away football supporters pub. Has two handpumps for real ale but not in use for a midweek visit for Blackpool match. Good 10 minute walk to Ricoh arena for footie match. Great staff working under difficult circumstances.

Really pleasant visit. Attended prior to a football match at Coventry City FC. Contrary to the comments below away fans are permitted unless the pub is given advice from the police not to, such as local rivals, the same as the use of plastic cups. My advice is to call the pub in advance and check. The pub was very busy on my visit and it was four deep at the bar. They could have done with extra staff and a policy in place, say 4 drinks max per customer? Some customers were selfishly orderly 8-10 (I kid you not!!) pints EACH. This meant other customers had to wait and some, understandably, just left as the wait time was just too much. That said, I did manage to get served and we sat out in the pleasant garden by the canal. Really friendly atmosphere. We returned after the game and the pub put a band on. The return visit was much calmer and we managed to get a seat inside. Again, home and away fans together and no issues whatsoever. Re parking, the pub has 15 spaces for customers on a first come, first served basis. Don’t park in surrounding streets as many returned to £60 tickets as the place is in a controlled parking zone, issued by the council. If you don’t fancy, or can’t get, official parking, I would suggest the non official car park opposite Novotel on Wilsons Lane. Always spaces and cheap prices too. It’s only a 10 min walk to the Longford engine too!

Seen it busier In Times gone by so only 4 stars but the staff try and get 5 stars and alongside a canal which I like and usually good food . Truck park 2 minutes away so perfect for me 👍

Came here for the football, clearly you were understaffed but hey that happens in the hospitality industry especially during These times, I came to the bar and it was very busy, I finally got to the front and waited abit and politely said to the blonde girl working behind the bar that the lad next to me was next then it was me, she served the lad next to me then went on to serve others, and when I said I thought I was next she just acted ditsy about it, the tall guy with the piercing came over to my side of the bar and I politely asked him is there any chance of being served down this side of the bar as no one really seemed to be serving that side of the bar his response was “does it look like I’m standing around doing nothing” I said no but I’ve been waiting for ages and he responded “I don’t care” at this point of course I was getting annoyed. I mean I heard him saying earlier how much he hates his job and what a sh*t hole the place was to work for so I suppose he wouldn’t care how he spoke to customers. Clearly got a chip on his shoulder.

Too expensive should think about locals more and have a more varied menu on Sundays

Dropped off some sound gear here for a gig. Bar staff seemed decent people and the pub nice and clean. Right by the canal too

Very busy pub, but it was a match day. It was nice to sit by the side of the canal. BTW away fans aren't allowed in and there's security on the door. Top tip, don't park in the zones you're not allowed to on match day or you will get a ticket (see pictures).

It's a lovely pub staff are lovely I go there most weeks and a good night

I attended the pub on Sunday with my 2 sons and my dad the pub it’s self is quite pleasant. Apart from the fact the toilet was closed. But my biggest complaint is the fact we had to drink our pint out of a plastic pint glass and was told the police had told him he had too I’m assuming that the police had said pick and choose who gets a glass as half the pub had glasses. Also we took a 2 minute walk up the road and enjoyed a pint in a glass the police must think he has a problem with trouble as he is the only pub having to use plastic I won’t be returning

Nice location by the cut. Friendly bar staff and welcoming of away football fans. No Cask Ale on during my visit and the pump clip was quickly turned around to show this

1st time out since lockdown. Didn't dissapoint. Good band. Great atmosphere. Few years since been down but will definitely return for more good music.

Absolutely fantastic roast dinner delivered to our house fresh and hot the meat was lovely enough to fill the biggest appetite! Will definitely be ordering again! I do a nice roast this was just as nice! Thank you

We went to this establishment yesterday evening we were pleasantly surprised, as this was my first time here. The staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant. We had eaten earlier however we were informed this is a very good place to eat. We would recommend this place for both food and drinks which were very reasonably priced and there was a good vibrant atmosphere the staff worked hard during our stay and the whole place was well run

Popped in here for a "eat out to help out" meal and was blown away by the quality and quantity of food which even at full price represents excellent value. We ordered the mixed grill and the BBQ ribs, and both meals were beautiful. Highly recommend, will be back.

Having passed the "Engine" and noticed that it had been refurbished we thought that we would give it a try. I looked on the website to look at the menu and it looked quite good with lots of different plates on offer, so we decided to go and eat.when we sat down and picked up the menu it was a temporary one with only basic dishes on it. A bit disappointed we decided to order as we were already there. I had the "Baked ham and egg" ( although when it came it was ham that you buy from any supermarket ie boiled not baked) and the wife had Scampy. There was plenty on both plates and was fair for the money we paid. You might ask why I don't complain but I have found in the past its always me that comes off worst and being shown up.

We visited the pub on a Saturday afternoon before sn event at the Ricoh. The pub was within walking distance of our hotel so was the perfect stop off enroute. The pub was busy as there was a rugby event on but we didn't mind as it all added to the atmosphere. Lots of TV screens showing football too which was a bonus. We ordered food and was told there would be a wait due to the number of people in the pub, we did wait a hood 15 minutes longer than the time we were told, but we didn't mind as we were not in a rush. The food when it came was freshly cooked, piping hot and great quality- definately worth the wait. Good choice on the menu and fairly inexpensive. After lunch we took out drinks out into the beer garden which looks onto the canal, a lovely spot on a fantastic sunny day Would definitely recommend this pub, friendly staff, great location and excellent food.

Exceptionally slow service. Clearly the order was lost because even after enquiring where the food was, after they checked with the kitchen, I had to be asked to repeat the order again. After being assured a member of management would come to speak with us, we still had to ask again to talk to someone and even then they just sent a barmaid back down to offer free desert or a full refund, we took the refund. Management are either missing in action or just couldn't care less. There's supposedly a family fun day tomorrow, there will be a lot of hungry children.

Visited here for some lunch with my family, no one was in the pub apart from us, the staff were very friendly and turned the fire on for us as we were cold, we order starters and mains and the starters were lovely, when the mains came out I ordered a steak I couldn’t have the rump as they didn’t have any so I had sirloin instead. I asked my steak to be medium rare it came out more well done. My steak came on a slate to obviously make it look better but the food was falling off the slate and on to the table, my food was cold especially my steak freezing cold, I sent it back and it just got sent out exactly the same so I just ate it as I couldn’t be bothered to send it back again. There was no flavour and it was just plain and boring. I wouldn’t visit again.

Popped in on a busy Saturday evening with my children there was a great atmosphere in the pub everyone was super friendly , ordered the lamb burger off the menu I have to say it's one of the nicest burgers I have ever eaten was delicious, very juicy and succulent, will most definitely be returning ... the new owners have done a phenomenal job there would recommend any one to visit

We visited the Longford Engine before a football match at the Ricoh Arena not having been for some years. It has been smartened up a lot since then (particularly the toilets which I don't remember fondly) with a very pleasant canal side terrace as well as a separate conservatory dining room. This is a pub that does food rather than a restaurant in a pub. There are all the usual pub meals although we just had cheese and onion rolls which were very good. The staff were very friendly and there was a very good range of beers available at very reasonable prices (if you are used to drinking in London!)

Just found this out for a delivery breakfast absolutely brilliant very tasty food all still hot due to a car accident our food was delayed but staff took time to phone and advise me about the delay 10 out of 10 for customer service and quality

We visited here on Monday and experienced a great welcome, lovely food in a peaceful location. Great food at very good prices, sat outside watching the barges pass by. My mum and kids loved it. We will definitely revisit soon.

We visited at 11:00am on Sunday 30 July and entered through an open side door. A new management team had just taken over and there was confusion about the opening times. The landlady explained that they had a large event on and were not opening that day until noon. It had been put on facebook but we hadn't seen it. The weather was raining heavily and we explained that we were revisting the city. As we only wanted a drink she very kindly served us. It is a large pub, very clean. Real ale on and we had Mad Goose which was good. We could see the landlady and her team working hard preparing food for the large party. We left around 11:35am after finishing our pint. The landlady and her team could not have been more accommodating even though it was us at fault. Thank you very much. If we are back in the area again we will come to you. Hopefully the weather will be better and we can enjoy the large patio overlooking the canal. cheers!

Very unpleasant experience when we walked into this basic grubby restaurant with two children under the age of 10. We were just hoping for a quiet afternoon. Literally less than 5 minutes after we walked we were approached by a MAN claiming to be the Manager who asked us what we were here for? He uttered" you cant just sit here and not buy a drink" I was horrified at his manner and the tone he spoke to us especially in front or our children, bearing in mind we had just arrived 5 minutes prior to that and was trying to get the kids settled. We were all shocked at his aggressive and intimidating behaviour. I have never experienced such unbelievable  rudeness and disrespect by someone claiming to be Management. We quickly rushed to the exit all with opened mouths. My kids even asked' why was he so mean to us??
