Poseidon Fish Bar in Coventry

I normally like poseidon fish bar, I ordered a haddock and chips with curry sauce for me and my partner but on this occasion I must say I was very disappointed with both, fish tasted sour if I'm honest, and the texture felt like it wasn't fully cooked and no taste, the batter was soggy oil dripping out, and the chips were like mash potato and tasteless nothing compared to how this place was last time I came, the service was decent that was probably the best part, I wouldn't rush back anytime soon !!

We asked Poseidon to cater for 100 people on a Sunday and they absolutely nailed it. Food arrived bang on time and was hot and fresh with guests commenting on how lovely the food was, there literally wasn’t a single complaint. They went above and beyond - I couldn’t be happier with the service and food provided by this chippy! (I’ve given 5 stars for atmosphere as I can’t bring myself to give any less than 5 stars throughout but this was a delivery, although the chip shop is also very clean and hygienic).

Generous portions, the fish was cooked fresh, well managed busy queues.

Painfully slow service, unprepared for customers. It shows when businesses don't really put customers at the forefront of their list of priorities, it's taken you 4 weeks to respond to a negative review, says it all really.

Visited this place a few days ago. Had heard really good reviews with regards to the food. I was shocked to see the queue was so long that people were waiting outside the shop. The lady before me entered and placed her order right when you enter then joined the queue to get her food. There is a sign that states order on entry so naturally I waited right at the counter when I entered and was completely ignored. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought they will get to me when they get a minute. Several minutes later another customer entered and they took his order. At this point I realised they did in fact ignore me. They were extremely rude when I confronted them and said I should wait like the rest and I explained you haven't even taken my order yet. I left after and went to the burger shop two doors down called burger boi and visited them often as I was in coventry for a few days visiting family. Good food means nothing if your customer service is rubbish.

Good food and excellent customer service.

Generous sized portions and fair pricing. Had quite a wait for the fish to be cooked but it was worth it to get a fresh one. Staff clearly very busy, owner seemed to be doing the cooking, and lady on the counter was taking the orders. Sauce on top was free. Will return here again.

Super food I must one of the best fish n chips there food is absolutely delicious and very economical..

Ese fue el peor fish&chips que probamos. (Me cansé fish&chips en Woking en comida callejera similar stlye que estaba bien, y en muchos pubs y restaurantes en Guildford, Porthmouth, Brighton ... que eran geniales) Me culpo a mí mismo después de ver el lugar, debemos saber que no es nuestro lugar. Con mi esposa, después del primer bocado, no pudimos comer esta "comida" y la tiramos a la basura (20 GBP para 2 personas, pescado + papas fritas). Nuestra salud es más importante que comer esta insípida comida chatarra. El 50 % de este "alimento" era aceite puro no saludable, tanto el pescado como la patata nadaban en el aceite. Proporcionaron una cantidad extrema (alrededor de 2 kg chips / porción) como una bolsa aceitosa pesada, nunca vi servir esta cantidad extrema de papa en ningún lugar, que era chips insípidos de muy mala calidad, y por supuesto con el embalaje de papel se volvió muy suave que crujiente. Lo siento mucho por aquellos que comen esto regado con vinagre ya que sirven esto habitualmente (no le pedí vinagre). El pescado también era muy grande y pesado, e insípido con un empanado muy lleno de aceite. 1 porción de pescado + papas fritas aquí es puede estar bien para un hombre de 150 kg, el daño a la salud y la obesidad están garantizados para aquellos que comen esto regularmente.

Since deanos was busy had to go to Poseidon the chicken meat was disgusting I wouldn’t even feed it my dog. Place use to be nice but it’s done down hill

Just had for the first time fish and chips from them and it was delicious 👏 the cod was nice and crispy and BIG can be shared by two people and the chips. Staff was friendly, they take card payments but cash is preferred.

I found the owner very rude and aggressive with a customer being served whilst waiting for my order, was stating that on future visits he must pay by cash not card as he is being charged for card payments? The person apologised and stated he will bring cash in the future .The owner cannot demand customers pay cash only as most people do not carry cash and making customers visit the grocery store a few doors down to withdraw money . Some more customers arrived who he seemed to know and paid with the card and nothing was said. Will go elsewhere in the future .

I only had cheesy chips, but they were grate, with the cheese melted all over them.

Staff were okay really, just focused. If go back again and recommend them

Food is mostly good, I keep finding bits of bone in the meet though which can be off putting. The thing that compelled me to write a review was the fact that it is really hot over the last few days, normally its hot in the shop on a cold day but this time I could see the sweat dripping off the staffs faces. I think the working conditions are horrible personally, maybe at least buy some fans? Edit: So to respond to the owner, 4 separate occasions I've have found small rectangular bits of bone in my meat, it's not a one off. Secondly I really think you should either do something about the heat or simply not open. You have a giant glass front window on your store, what about turning it into a set of doors that can open?

If there is place is sit and eat would be great ...we came from long way and it was raining we carry the food items long way and ate with disturbed mind.Tgough food was good we not able to enjoy and eat🥺🥴

Best chippy in Coventry, been going for 15 years now. Only negative is that they could perhaps do something to shorten the waiting times, as the long queues mean we have to go to other chippies sometimes. But a great chippy and very friendly staff.

Bought some chips from them. The staff were friendly and service was fast. They don't accept card payments which make things more difficult but regardless their chips are so yummy.

Went there Good Friday with wife. No one in the shop only guy behind counter on phone. He saw us and continued his phone chat making no attempt to serve us . After about 3 minutes we had had enough and left .It was then he called us back to which we said thanks but no thanks. You don’t treat customers like that. Ignore them at your peril.

Absolutely brilliant. Best chip shop in Coventry by a mile and in top10 in the UK. Chips, fish, kebabs all outstanding. Food quality is brilliant. Great guys that run it. Put binley mega chippy dog pit to shame. People all over the world should be travelling to Poseidon for their chips instead. Never had anything less than 10/10 from here

I was at work and needed to feed 7 people and our cooker had broken. This was the only chippy we could find open on a Sunday and I'd never been before. It was very busy (probably due to the fact it was the only one open) but the staff served me quickly and were really lovely. The chips were absolutely delicious and so was the curry sauce. Would definitely come back here again!

First time I have visited the Poseidon in a while. Just wanted a quick lunch for the kids. £14.50 for 2 sausages and pie and chips. Not complaining about the price as the cost of everything has gone up everywhere. However the customer service was disgusting. Guy serving me barely grunted and not once said thank you at any point - not even when giving me my change. I guess they are so busy that they don’t need to bother with things like courtesy. I really hope when the new chippy opens at the top of Chelysmore people realise what terrible service they are getting from Poseidon and go there instead.

The best in Coventry, not Mega chippy in binley. Staff are great and the atmosphere depends on what time you get there . You could hit it right or be in a rather long line waiting.

The cod is superb also potatoe scallops. Recently moved to Styvechale and very very happy with Poseidons fish bar. Looking forward to trying more on the menu. Well done xx

Wow! Been here twice now and it’s delicious like no other chippie. Mmm mmm mmm; shame fish n chips aren’t the healthiest option in the world, otherwise I’d be here every day. Fish is super crispy and fresh. Fresh is the word. Yum 😋

Nice chips and good veggie options for a chippy

First time i ever used this chippy i was lied to when told they don’t take card payments when they actually do. Prejudice i suspect played a role but brushed it off and returned. Yesterday i paid for a large portion of chips amongst other but when i got home it was a regular portion and a small one at that. The staffer was somewhat distracted and had to repeat myself a few times and no apology. Considering i am relatively new to this place and the impression received so far is a negative - i shall not be coming back.

Whilst the food is reasonable, the staff are pure grumpy. They obviously aren’t happy doing what they do, and it comes across. It’s so average that during lockdown I preferred to travel to the Black Country fish bar in West Bromwich rather than deal with Mr. Grumpy and the hilarious old fart who told me I hadn’t shouted through the order correctly. Calm down grandpa 😅. Plus they don’t put enough salt and vinegar on the chips. Stingy and grumpy.

The lady who served me was quite rude. Service was also slow and portions were smaller than expected. Not in a hurry to come back.

Turned up, a sign to only allow 2 in the shop but I soon find myself next to 3 others. Staff not wearing masks or gloves, no distancing with a barrier covering only some of the bar and cash only. The food was mediocre with bland fish and soggy chips. Very disappointed, sorry!

Great fish and chips again, but a shame there are problems with the credit/debit card machines, especially as Amex Shop Small should have been supported this month. If they sorted it out I'd come back again.

Normally a great chippy, but for the second time, the long await for a fresh piece of fish was the worst fish ever from all the chips shop I’ve ever been to. The fish was over cooked like it had been re-dipped to make hot again, completely burnt and hard, with no meat in the tail end, the meat else where was dry.

Friendly staff and great fish and chips. Battered sausage also good. Portions are large so we tend to share.
