Town Hall hotel in Richmondshire

We had sunday dinner and puddings. We had beef, chicken and lamb and all were delicious and tender. The puddings were yummy!

The chef was extremely helpful in producing a meal which was plainly cooked with no additives to suit my wife’s restricted diet. Service was very helpful and friendly. The steak and ale pie was first class and the spotted dick was exceptional. My wife’s pork chop was succulent.

Myself and a friend visited on a Wednesday night, I had the duck with cherry and port sauce, sauce on the duck was beautiful, my friend had the burger which was amazing, huge portion size! staff were friendly and service was prompt and attentive would definitely recommend

The food is absolutely delicious (home cooked and tasty) and our dogs LOVED their sausages - the staff a so very friendly too

Truly awful meal We decided on the Duck what a mistake that was Over cooked with 7 so called garlic potatoes and two leaves of pak choi with what looked liked glacé cherries in a thin tasteless sauce which cost £18 when we complained they said it was a new menu and as we ate some of it we could not have a refund A truly awful place to eat

Beautiful Sunday Dinner spoilt by the deliberate lack of gravy. To be told extra gravy would cost £1.50 (not priced on the Sunday menu) to then have to explain to the chef that gravy is part of the meal not a side order!! Very disappointing! Usually love eating here and have been given a small jug of gravy in the past! We were going to get deserts but decided to leave and get them elsewhere. On the up side dogs are always welcome and treated lovely.

It’s been a while since we had Sunday Lunch here but the standard's have seriously dropped. We were not told they had no Gluten Free Yks Puddings until our meal arrived. The Beef & Pork was so dry & overcooked even the chef couldn’t slice it so he hacked off chunks. It was served like a school dinner with gravy sloshed over the veg so I couldn’t taste them. The Yorkshire Pudding (Full Gluten), had obviously been sat out since service began rather than being made fresh at intervals. Mine tasted like a brick. I sent a message to the Chef that I would have been ashamed to serve that meal at home. Very small portions but it was horrible so that wasn’t a problem for us. The hit on my bank for a dreadful meal smarts!

Been to this pub many times but first Sunday lunch Had mixed meats all were delicious, veg/pots accompanied were all great, would highly recommend anyone to go £14.95 cheap as 🙌🙌 Taniel and all her team worked their socks off, were friendly, accommodating and altogether a great experience(Guinness and bubbles ♥️💙)

Just had a truly wonderful Sunday lunch in here. The beef and lamb were mouth-wateringly tender and the veg perfectly cooked. Great atmosphere, great staff and exceptional value

Vegetarian but roast was absolutely delicious as was the roast beef (husbands choice) very friendly, good selection of beer on tap, would definitely recommend

Nice traditional pub with good food and beer.Portions large and good quality.Evening menu slightly smaller than dinner one but still plenty of choice.scampi was tasty and chips were lovely.My wife's lasagna wasn't very hot but went back and new meal brought out with no fuss at all.Staff really cheery and service was great.

We only picked this pub as it was dog friendly but I’m glad we did. I ordered the Cumberland sausage with cheese and leek mash hubby ordered ham egg and chips both meals were lovely. I’m a picky eater but my meal got 10/10 and I will definitely return here next time I’m in Richmond.

My usual stop for an evening meal when in Richmond, for several reasons, great food at a good price, dog friendly (important to me) and friendly staff. Even when busy my food has always arrived promptly and nicely presented. Can recommend the daily roast options, especially after a day either working or walking.

Went in with my young son. Waiting for the rest of the family to arrive. I put a pound in the pool table ( the pub was virtually empty if not empty) and went to the bar to ask for some chalk. Was met with a puzzled look as if what was I playing at. Was told if I wasn't buying a drink then I had to leave. I was actually given my pound back, told my son to stop putting the balls on the table, and left. Met my family in town and told them what had happened just went home.Not somewhere I would recommend if you want to feel accepted...Sorry

Realy nice sunday lunch beef was amazing, staff very freindly, dog freindly will be back 100% will try burger next time.

Wow well what can I say, the burger was better than five guys, tasty burger you could tell it was quality, home made chips yum and the portion size I’m now close to a food coma. I will most definitely be going again.

What a lovely pub this is. Staff are all friendly and welcoming, they are dog friendly but also have a dog free zone (which is where we chose to sit). I had the town hall burger, my wife had the chicken burger my kids had lasagne and chicken curry the food was delicious. Great sized portions too, you definitely get good value for money! The girls behind the bar couldn't do enough for us making sure we had everything we needed. We will be visiting again when we're in the area! If your in Richmond I'd recommend popping in and having a meal!

A warm and welcoming pub! Staff were lovely, chatty and very welcoming. The food was lovely and the portion sizes where great! Even though they were busy the staff checked we where happy with our meals and if we needed anything else. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Walked in the pub and bought drinks before I noticed 3 dogs actually sitting on either chairs or back seats where you are expected to sit afterwards

Asked bar made before we bought a drink if the coronation chickpea baguette which was marked vegan on the menu was available. She said “yes but I think it’s vegetarian, I’ll check”. Checked with the kitchen, yea we have it. So we ordered the vegan coronation chicken baguette and a drink. (Larger shandy £5). Sat down at table when bar made comes over and says “ the coronation chickpea is vegetarian and not vegan. Here V means Vegan and VE means vegan.” How ridiculous - so ended up getting a refund for the food but had to drink the shandy even though I then didn’t want it.

We visit Richmond a few times a year and this place is always one of our favourite places to chill. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are all so friendly and hard working. Today we just wanted drinks with our puppy and the lady that runs the place took time to swap us to the window seat as she knows the pup loves watching out if the window. It was so busy for Sunday lunch but she had it running like clockwork and we heard so many very happy comments about the lunches. Definitely recommend you book for Sunday roast but if not she will try anything to fit you in.

Lovely pub which serves very nice food and staff who are so friendly and helpful . Called in Friday when we arrived in Richmond to have a meal. No tables free so said to waitress we would wait a few minutes to see if one came available. As one didn't we left to try somewhere else. The waitress ran after us as a table came free and her colleague was keeping it for us if we still wanted to come back. Never seen service like this and to top it all the food was excellent. Well done to the girls who work there 👏 👏

Called in for a pint being new to Richmond and had no clue of the area. The lady behind the bar (dark haired Scottish lady) was really welcoming and friendly. She made it a very pleasant experience. Let my partner try a new beer he wasn’t sure of before we ordered. Place was quiet probably due to being a Wednesday evening and bad weather. We didn’t have food but beer was reasonably priced and surroundings good. Would certainly return. Place was clean, dog friendly and homely.

Had lunch here. Ordered at the bar all staff I dealt with were lovely and friendly and helpful. Food arrived very promptly and was nice. Big portions we were so full afterwards. Pub is clean. Toilets nice and clean. Seating comfortable. Would eat here again

A pleasure to visit this pub, everything about it is superb. Food exceptional, staff were very helpful, and as a Guinness drinker, it was one of the best pints I have had in England for a long time. Will be visiting again very soon.

Looks to be recently refurbished. The pub is well presented. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The menu was varied. The food itself was mixed. The carveries were great though could’ve done with more gravy in a gravy boat. The sausage and mash was nice....

Food poor. Lamb shank needed to be chewed off the bone. Told waiter, who just laughed. Won’t be visiting again. Curried pie had no flavour. All clearly quick heat up. Not worth the money.

Great find in this lovely town. Good food choice and had my favourite a ploughams-was difficult as could choose from 2,but plumped for traditional and wasn't disappointed. Hubby had the pie and son had jacket potato which both looked tasty. Friendly helpful staff.

Popped into the Town Hall for a drink and received fantastic service from walking in to walking out. Very good NZ Sav Blanc at a great price per bottle and excellent food, a varied veggie selection too, which is unusual for most of the other pubs in the town. would highly recommend !!

My partner and myself visited here a few days ago. I order the home made steak and ale pie and my partner the lasagne. Finally found a place that didnt sell horrible, cheap frozen food. The cost was reasonable too. So great food at a good price. Pie - loads of meat. Chips were delicious and the gravy was lovely, A very enjoyable meal indeed and I highly recommend. Its a shame this place isnt closer to home as Id definitely go back again and again.

Had a roast beef dinner today and it was absolutely delicious cooked to perfection the roast beef just melted in your mouth good selection of vegetables and the roast potatoes were perfectly cooked nice and crispy outside soft and fluffy inside lovely Yorkshire puddings too. Well worth a visit and highly recommend sorry didn't take any pictures too busy scoffing

We booked a table here for 4 people and for food and to then watch the England game after. We was told we could only eat in the restaurant side and not reserve a table in the bar side. One we had eaten (which was beautiful food) we then walked to the bar side and Was unable to be seated together as there weren’t any tables, however the annoying part was one large table was occupied by 2 ladies who didn’t care about the football which is fine but they was dining and the table was reserved! Everything we was told couldn’t happen. If it’s rules then stick to them please, honesty goes a long way and we was definitely told a tale, however the food was really nice so worth a visit to eat.

Went to the Town Hall pub for Sunday lunch. Staff were very friendly and the lunch was perfect. The roast beef was cooked perfectly and so were the vegetables. Staff were polite and attentive and service was quick. Would definitely recommend and will return.

Popped into the Town Hall for an impromptu lunch with my wife,What can I say? - I had the most delicious chicken pie and couldn’t recommend it strongly enough. Very good following of the social distancing and associated rules but comfortable.Dog friendly and they even gave the dog a couple of treats which she appreciated (after checking it was ok)One of the most enjoyable meals out in a while - very tasty.Compliments to the chef!

We visited the Town Hall in Richmond for a step back to normality, my wife Wendy and I both had roast beef with all the trimmings. We have never had a better lunch, the beef was tender and tasty and didn't need a knife to cut it. All the vegetables were cooked perfectly and actually tasted like they should. The choice of meats was enough to please anyone and meals could be ordered to suit your appetite , the Landlady was very pleasant and courteous and the staff couldn't have been nicer, a great day

We were spending a couple of days in Richmond and decided to pop in for a lunchtime family meal. We have always been made to feel very welcome here by Tenille and her very friendly staff. The Covid safety guidelines were well adhered to and all Track & Trace rules followed which was very reassuring. We all chose from the Vegetarian options (by choice) as they all sounded so appealing and the Chef did us proud. The food was delicious, fresh, plentiful and very well presented as usual and we cannot recommend their menu enough - excellent choices even during weekdays when options are very often reduced in other establishments. We have never been disappointed.

On a very wet day this was a welcome refuge for lunch. Covid secure systems were in place and were being well adhered to. All the staff were friendly.The food was excellent - a proper home made style burger according to my husband! I can only say that we are looking forward to returning. My son is buying a house in Richmond so the family could easily become regulars!Thank you to all the staff for a true Yorkshire welcome!

Looking for somewhere to eat on Saturday night. Everywhere was extremely busy but they managed to squeeze us in here. Great friendly welcome , super quick service and great food. Stared our stay off wonderfully.

Took my Mum and Aunt out for lunch for the first time since lockdown.The Covid secure arrangements were excellent, we were greeted as we entered and our track and trace details were taken by a very friendly and helpful member of staff. There were hand sanitiser stations available at the door, screens all around the bar and the staff wore face masks making us feel very safe and secure.The menu has something for everyone!! We ordered a cottage pie, steak and ale pie and the town hall burger......the portions are big and the food was amazing!!!Totally recommend the Town Hall Hotel for the food, service and the effort that has gone in to making everyone feel safe. We'll definitely be back.

A small group of us (4) went out for a quiet catch up and felt completely comfortable with the Covid-19 procedures put in place. Contact tracing, no table then not allowed in, hand sanitiser, social distancing and screens at bar. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and when there was an issue with the draught soft drinks we were offered more expensive alternatives at no extra cost.

We had a few drinks in here but chose not to eat, however the menu seemed lovely. Good old fashioned food! The pub was warm and cosy and well organised for covid.

Called in Saturday afternoon for a drink excellent social distancing measures in place along with reasonably priced drinks. Called in the following day also all in all a decent place. Will we return - yes next time we visit Richmond

Popped in here by chance with dog looking for a bite to eat. Very welcoming and friendly staff who were very attentive. Even brough the dog some treats and a bowl of water. Saw the staff do this with everyone who brought in a dog. A very nice touch which was appreciatedGreat choice and good prices. When the food arrived it was very good. Called in as we had a while to wait for our bus and this place is really handy for the bus stops!It was very clean and the staff were great. There was someone near the door asking you to use the sanitiser as soon as you walked in and then took your details. The pub itself was well organised with tables spaced out for good social distancing.Toilets were clean and they were operating one in - one out for the facilities.Other people were ordering food and it looked really nice from the distance.Drinks were lovely too and not too expensive.Would certainly return if we were in Richmond again.

Like others we have been delighted with this central location pub serving food and drinks. Dog friendly. Easy and good wheelchair access which is not found in other eating places! Seating inside and outside. The food is really very nice and worth the wait because it isn't warmed by mico-wave but oven cooked to order. We had vegetarian roast with roast potatoes, a good selection of fresh vegetables and gluten free gravy. Also one of us had the roast which looked great followed by jam sponge with custard which also pleased the eye and taste buds. The social distancing Covid 19 precautions are truly reassuring, top level thinking and execution. Again and indefensible ...unlike some other places here in Richmond. The staff are excellent, professional and efficient. Big thank you to them all!

Just had a fabulous meal here. The roast beef and roast potatoes were excellent. Very well organised and professional set up with regards social distancing resulting in a safe atmosphere.

Had a pint of beer outside with my wife and daughter. The beer was not well kept. Only drank half of it. Went inside, wearing a mask, to use the gents. Staff member jumped down my throat saying "you can't just walk in here". I explained that I'd been outside having a drink and she directed me to the gents. I found her to be rude and lacking in customer care.

Went for a good old knees up with my boys when I turned around and my friend was being screamed at to f*** off! I choked on my drink and left immediately, without a second thought. Pub is absolutely banging for sunday lunches though, no complaints.

Excellant Sunday lunch that needs a good yorkshire pudding to make it perfect. Its a dog friendly pub but you can eat away from them. Good range of beers etc; friendly staff.

Visiting Richmond for the day and wanted somewhere to eat for lunch. Saw a couple standing outside the Town Hall Pub and asked what it was like. They didn't hesitate in recommending it. A very enjoyable experience and we were not disappointed. The Sunday roast beef dinner is excellent, tender meat, beautifully cooked and presented vegetables. Could not fault a thing. Highly recommened and would definitely call again.

This was a mid week visit. It was very quiet which is a shame bur the inside is nice and welcoming. The foos was very good value and I would certainly eat here again.

Live local and regularly go to the TH for our Sunday lunch. Yesterday we thoroughly enjoyed it. My partner had the lamb, myself Beef, the Beef literally fell off the fork it was so tender. The gravy reminded me of my grandmothers when I was a nipper, she'd make it with the meat stock was delicious (sorry reminiscing). The portions were ample size more than enough for us two.A little bemused by the previous gentleman's comment, especially about the gravy? unless it was a different kitchen the Brian received his food from ???

This toast beef and Yorkshire pudding was the worst lunch I have ever had, beef was pulled and burnt, Yorkshire pudding out of Tesco,s gravy incipit e.g. water. And after payment half hour enquiries they had forgotten my order. If that's a chiefs best he should be ashamed to be called a chief.

Visited the town hall for lunch one day and had the steak sandwich and chunky home made chips which was delicious! Went back again 2 months later knowing the food was good to be presented with oven chips and dry steak without any Gravy. Pretty gutted, not the best.

Went to Richmond looking for somewhere to have an evening meal and ended up in the Town Hall. The staff on entry were very welcoming and the Barman behind the bar was very attentive and has a good sense of humour! We found a table then ordered our meal at the bar. Our food after ordering was served promptly and tasted wonderful. Thank you very much!

We were having a walk around Richmond with the dog when a heavy shower of rain made us hastily decide to pop in somewhere for a bite of lunch and I am happy to say we chose the Town Hall Pub and dining rooms , what a cracking find this is. We have walked past many times but never thought about going in and I am glad to say this time we went in for a change. This is a dog friendly establishment and the service is excellent from the moment you enter both for humans and canines with barman Alex being very helpful and efficient. It is a comfortable place with plenty of room and a bar area as well as the extensive dining areas of the old town hall. The drinks were excellent and good value , I can recommend the draught Maltsmiths IPA. The food was also excellent , cooked fresh to order and excellent value . I had the Steakwich which was superb , Freshly carved steak on a warm Ciabatta bun served with home made roasties and a pot of gravy , and the missus had a Prawn sandwich with chips which was also excellent. We will definitely return !.

We couldn't book into our hotel in aysgarth until later so decided to have a visit to Richmond. Ironically we were stood right next to the pub, looking for somewhere that would take dogs. We saw the sign and I'm glad we went in. The staff from the minute we walked in were so friendly. They brought the dog some water and biscuits and even kept coming over to give her a quick stroke and extra biscuits which was nice as some places we were a bit weary taking her in. The food was gorgeous. The kids plates were full and I had a fish finger sandwich as a little snack but it was so big that I struggled to finish it. We will definitely be back. Thank you x

After coming back from Hexham, the sun was shining we needed a drink. A quick look around castle and waterfall, this place looked like the place to go! Drinks were good plenty of crisps to choose from! We enjoyed it only nirnthatblet it down was the loos need regular checking, as they were grim!! Apart from that good!!

We weren't booked and as it was Mother's Day we expected to be turned down. We were seated straight away and the food was served in 10 minutes. The meal was great with our choice being a pensioners special. Cheap and a substantial meal. We had an Apple Pie with Custard for sweet and a great selection. My Border Collie also approved being fed chicken and treats and fresh water. Fantastic staff and well organised and would recommend. The queue at the door for opening time was a good indication.

Great lunch with friends - very nice surroundings, staff really friendly - had the carvery wich !!! As you will see from the photos really soft bread filled with tender slabs of roast beef, a bowl of fluffy roasties and a jug of tasty gravy what’s not to love you really must try - v filling and reasonable

We have just come back from a stay in Richmond and cant recommend this pub highly enough. The landlady and staff were all so kind to our old cocker spaniel lots of treats and big bowl of water and lots of fuss. We also ate here twice and the food was amazing and reasonably priced. We will definitely recommend to our doggy friends. Thankyou

Anyone looking for a very nice lunch in Richmond, North Yorkshire should try the Town Hall Hotel, in the Market Place. I have eaten there twice and been delighted. Their roast meals are superb, in both quality and quantity and reasonably priced.

Called in for lunch, 5 friends with 2 dogs. The menu had everything from sandwiches to roast dinners - all at very reasonable prices. The food was excellent, the service was excellent (and the dogs were catered for without asking). We will definitely return.

Part of the reason for our day out to Richmond today was to return here for a Sunday lunch. It was only our second visit and for one of our party it was their first visit. Arrived shortly before did opened and had a brief chat with some local visitors who were obviously regulates as they said they were keen to get their usual table in the window. We'll rather than wait, we disappeared to have a brief look around, returning about 20 minutes later, to find quite a few of the tables already occupied. Four choices of meat on offer for the Sunday roast. We had a mixture of lamb and beef on our table and we all enjoyed the meat and accompaniments. Sure that we will be back in future.

Fantastic lunch at the Town Hall Hotel and at a decent price, the wife and I called in for our first visit and would return.The food is freshly cooked I had surf and turf the steak melted in my mouth.The prices for food are decent none of this rip off stuff its great food at a good price and dog friendly too.The bar staff are a friendly bunch and nothing is a bother to them.Will return when next in Richmond.

Came here last Saturday for lunch. We were staying near by and had gone for a stroll around Richmond. We were a group of 5 females 33-46. We wanted to stop for lunch and there was lots of choice in Richmond but the menu looked good for what we wanted. I had a cheese sandwich, others had the hot dog, soup and hot beef sandwich. All the food was tasty and there were plenty of clean tables to choose from. Looked like the sort of pub that shows sports too but it was very pleasant. Seating outside too. My son and I were not sure what to expect being new to the area, but we looked in for a pint or six and did not regret it. We found everyone friendly and chatty, and the staff were really professional. We will most certainly visit again for a relaxing evening and look forward to it

I came here with my mam for lunch. We compared all of the menus in Richmond and this one had more variety and was decently priced. It was a nice place, a couple of tears in the seats we sat in but despite that it was okay. I got the Sunday lunch choice which I chose beef. They servers were nice and efficient. The food portion could have filled three people! I got the meat, potato and Yorkshire one one plate and a bowl of lots of veg in another. The plate was already full! Again, it was nice though. I just felt bad leaving so much on the plate and it looked like I didn’t enjoy it but I did.

Recently popped in for food through the week and for Sunday lunch. Food was served quickly,piping hot and more than enough in the plate. Staff are all friendly and very helpful. Big factor was the Town Hall is accessible for wheelchairs and is also dog friendly. Will visit again.

The café here can vary. If fully staffed you'll be served quickly & efficiently. But, if the opposite is the case, you'll have to wait. Nice seating inside, plus newspapers. Scones prohibitively expensive.

We called into Richmond for lunch on our way from Staffordshire to Northumberland. We were pleasantly surprised by the Town Hall Hotel. The staff were very friendly, and lunch (huge club sandwich and a fish finger ciabatta) was very well presented and delicious, as was the coffee. The only downside was the serving staff interrupting our eating to ask if everything was OK and calling us "guys". Please don't do it. It's American. ;) Despite that, we'd definitely go back.

Tatty, had a hole in ceiling and chairs well worn, but decent food and good staff. Ccould do with a facelift. Good prices.
