The Bridge Inn in Richmondshire

We visited 20th October 2024 for a meal for our sons birthday. We always go for special occassions however the meals were not as good as normal . Myself and daughter In law chose the bottomless Chinese my Husband and son chose trio parmos and my other son chose the Barney rubble mixed grill . Our table was booked for 6.30 we sat for 20 minutes and I had to ask Bar staff if we were to place our order at the bar to which she said I will come to your table . Long story short we waited and waited when the food finally arrived the trio parmos were extreamly dry and very hard unedible really . Very dissapointing experence .

I was worried after reading another review so I called first and they reassured me. When we arrived I was told to choose what I wanted and they’d check with chef what could be modified. Satay chicken starter yes, tempura veg starter no, chicken with prawns and white wine main course yes! Food was delicious, everyone had large portions and the service was friendly.

What a great evening with family visiting from abroad the staff were great very friendly and the food was out of this world and omg the chocolate bomb was to die for can’t wait to revisit

Just visited here today for lunch for the first time. Straight away asked for drinks no drinks menu is available. Ordered starters and main course each after been sat for 20 minutes . No starters had came after 1 hour so paid for drinks and left. Only 2 staff members seemed to be working and rushing about… didn’t seem that busy though ,only about 6 tables in and the young girl working wasn’t friendly or approachable! Won’t be coming back.

Think they have nailed it with this new menu as all the favourites from my childhood are back. They even have zebra back on it. The new chinese section is insane and your mouth waters everytime you read it. We all had a chinese dish & there was enough food to feed a army on the table. Ribs, noodles, soup, rice honestly never seen anything like this. We took enough home to feed us all again tomorrow. Great price as-well, well done to you all! 🤘

This is the place to go if you are a Chinese fan it’s unreal we got so much choice & we just kept ordering. Honestly it was so good.

What a lovely day we had here yesterday cold day required a good meal and this pub did the job. £15 for as many meats as you like & we received a huge plate of lushes items. The vegetables were amazing. Gravy had so much flavour & the cauliflower cheese was the best. Would recommend.

Ordered from the early bird menu. 2 courses for £22. Great selection and unbelievable value. I had the mixed grill which was included in that price. I'd be happy paying £22 for that alone.

Should have read the reviews before booking. Booked for 12.45 left at 2.30. They had obviously over booked a could not keep up. Won't be going there again.

Our samosa and poppadoms were a bit greasy and pheasant was dry but apart from that the food was good and reasonably priced

came in for tea on Friday evening by myself and i’m always a bit worried when i go somewhere alone that they will treat me funny but i worry for no reason the staff were fantastic very chatty made me feel very welcome will definitely return

Well what a surprise that was tuesday night last minute dinner, & it was heaving must be the only place busy as every where else we have been lately has been quiet. Lovely buzz about the place, chatting, friendly & the food was out of this world. By no means is it poncy food thats why so busy. Great value & good portions, the owners have got there market down to a T. We will certainly be back.

We literally ordered everything chinesy as the selection is unreal. Yes we did take nearly a full chinese takeaway for another day home but we gave it a good shot. All was amazing & especially the egg fried rice the best i have had. Crazy how this pub has literally the best chinese i have ever had, loved it! 😘

Food was great although far too much of it! Staff went out of their way to accommodate us (2people) as we hadn't bkd for Sunday lunch but they were way understaffed, especially poor lad on the bar! But overall very good x

Booked last minute and had a great evening cocktail were fab had a Shanghai mixed platter from the Chinese section and omg it was so tasty but far to much has to take some home Definitely worth a visit

Food & Drink was very poor on this occasion. I have been here lots of times, this could well be a one off, as it is usually ok.Will i return, only time will tell. Waitresses did a good job in smiling, but they are 100% over worked.

Booked in for 19.30 table of 9. Arrived on time but only 8 of us. Eventually shown to the table at 19.45, no problem, was somewhere to sit with our drinks while waiting. Came for our order about 20.00. All ordered straight away. 21.05 our food started too arrive!! We did let them know it wasn't good enough, after all we were booked for 19.30. One of the orders came wrong, but she had waited that long, she just said she would have it, it was ok. Couldn't complain about the quality of food, but really was good enough, poor waitress apologized, but that was all. No complementary drink or anything deducted from the bill. Shame, as we've been here a good few times and never had any issues.

Food is always lovely. The service this time was over and above a great waitress. Lovely place, well looked after.

A good traditional restaurant set in pleasant surroundings. Really enjoyed my visit here and would definitely go again. The food was delivered to our table quickly and was delicious; the portions were generous too. The staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. It was a pleasure to look through the well presented menu and be spoilt for choice. The Bridge Inn is well worth a visit, the food is excellent and, importantly these days, sensibly priced. Left here feeling very satisfied.

Always warm and friendly welcome by Linda and the staff. Atmosphere is always relaxed and never rushed out. Large portions and really enjoyed our meals. All in all great food, great staff and a great place. Yvonne

We went here for Sunday lunch today. It was very modest, the meat wasn't great and the kids chicken nuggets could have been used as rocks! Took us over an hour to be served although it wasn't that busy. We found thus very popular a phew years ago but seems to have gone downhill massively.

Poor service with the exception of the older guy, he was run off his feet…everything took absolutely ages, from getting seated to getting the bill…..food was terrible I ordered beef in black bean with rice and chips. The beef was scarce and chewy mainly a plate full of onions and chestnut, rice was rock hard no sauce, very dry and it came with six dry, stale chips. Were seated in a freezing part of the restaurant up some steps, where it was extremely noisy, voices seem to echo! Asked to be move into the room near the bar but we were told no it’s full! In a rather abrupt manner but I then went to look and there was at least 6 tables empty! Not a very friendly or welcoming atmosphere at all. The guy behind the bar was miserable too…Never again!

Easter visit to the bridge is a must for our family every year & this year did us proud. 4 familys get together and the staff coped brilliantly. The food was extremely good, absolutely loved the Chinese twist on my meal. Great night & some what exceptional value. We will be back soon

Myself my mother and family went here on Mother’s Day. I think the only place without a Mother’s Day menu. We opted for Sunday lunch anyways and had starters. Upon arrival we were told to go the bar, the lady couldn’t at all serve us as one family, it had to all be individually, couldn’t split the bill, and was a very unusual way of welcoming your customers. The lady seemed very rushed for having two tickets on the bar and seemed a little overwhelmed by 6 people ordering. When we wanted more drinks we had to go to the bar, which again is unusual - we had to pay there and then. When we ordered more drinks, we had to spell out the drinks we wanted, I.e the young blond lady couldn’t spell Zinfandel Rose. There was also very limited drinks not that we were given a drinks menu at all. The prawn cocktails did not have any sauce when asked for more we were given a very small pot the size of a bottle lid for four people! We also had to ask for butter with the bread. Ontop was a pointless bit of garden weeds. Otherwise you can’t really mess up prawn cocktail, the little additional sauce we got was nice. For mains meals the main person of the day, received her food stone cold! It had to be sent back. One person asked for no cauliflower and to have extra veg instead. Unfortunately this person ended up getting neither. I love my veg al dente but this veg was pretty hard. Had the food of been hot and cooked throughly we would have loved it as the meat was lovley’ The person who chose turkey and chicken only got turkey. Appreciate these are similar but t average person can tell the difference. We then realised we hadn’t even been given cutlery for our mains. Overall it was a devastating poor experience as we choice here as we always came as kids with our family and grandparents. We likley won’t return. Unfortunately we had a similar experience at the Pennyweight who are owned by the same people. The way Sunday lunches are cooked at both places appear to be well in advanced so everything is left to go cold, it was quite “stingey” is perhaps the best word. The small things which cost the least seem to be the biggest problems, such as veg, sauces/condiments and salad. Overall. It’s lost its feel, warmth and comfort. We did not really complain as you shouldn’t have too, it creates an atmosphere for the rest of the meal and we just wanted to enjoy Mother’s Day. There are some major but minor improvements that could make for a better experience. Our experience is kin to others experiences and it just seems they aren’t improving on them.

Great pub, food options are plentiful and portions are generous all while being well priced. Will definitely be back soon.

Went for lunch. It was average. Don't think the heating was working as it was pretty cold.

Car park in darkness, dining area cold & not well lit. We both had pies, my partners steak pie was bereft of beef and filled to the top with thin gravy, he needed a straw not a fork. Chips & veg.for both meals were fine but my Ocean pie, although full of fish, was swimming in thin cheese sauce. Very disappointing.

booked in for this evening with the family as kids were up visiting having not been in for a while the lady working even new that i had ordered the same as i always have the shanghai mixed platter the best meal i’ve ever eaten here and alway have the same thing never change

We decided on the bridge for our mothersday lunch as it was halfway meeting point with my sister to treat mum. When we arrived we were greeted by lovely staff and had drinks at the bar. We decided to have 2 corses and my ribs were to die for.Sunday lunch came and it was delicious and plentiful. I couldn’t have fit pudding in even if I wanted to. We seen it has early bird menu we want to try. 10/10 . Thankyou

Been here a lot over the year and as usual today didn’t disappoint the staff were great and the food was fantastic my eyes are definitely bigger than my belly mind 3 courses and took half my Shanghai home Definitely worth a visit

Was treated here for mothers day as been a family favourite, lovely to see it still busy as always. What was the biggest surprise was the same faces were still there after all this time. The food was lovely just too big as per the norm with previous visits, & extremely generous with the vegetables. I had lamb and it was to die for, Yorkshire puddings fabulous & the sticky toffee pudding awesome. Staff were lovely & when the bill came was pleasantly surprised at how good value it was. Cant believe we have left it so long to come back, definitely back next week. Give it a go, but please book its a busy spot

Very disappointing Sunday lunch for Mothers Day. Boiled parsnips? aren't they usually roasted? and there was four very large ones!. My dinner looked like it had been thrown on the plate, in fact I even considered it was possibly left overs thrown together. Had a great Sunday lunch a couple of years ago, maybe standards have dropped. Would have complained but my son had treated me for Mothers Day and did not want to upset him. Definitely will not return

Visited as a couple on Friday night in February. Main room was fairly busy but we were taken into the extension where we were the only customers. No atmosphere and cold - portable heater being used. Food was OK but nothing special. Another couple of diners arrived and that was it. They left before us. Staff forgot about us and we were left sitting with empty glasses. The main room had thinned out but there was no offer to relocate us. We may as well have been sitting at home. There was no music in the extension, it was drab, cold and uninviting . Hadn't visited for a while but thought we would give it another chance. Not be vack in a hurry.

A table for seven was booked for Mothers Day. We used to frequent this establishment years ago in its heyday and were never disappointed with either the food or the warmth and ambiance of the place. On arrival we noticed that the place was nowhere near as busy as it was in its day and that it was very cold and dark. The place was heated with portable gas heaters and electric oil filled heaters . We ordered a round of drinks which my husband paid for before we were shown to our table. I asked a waitress why it was so cold and she said that it was an old building and it was difficult to heat. What rubbish!! We ordered our starter which was fine. A couple of dishes of roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese came out ahead of our main meal however, once main meal was put down we had no cutlery so had to ask for some. Waitress brought the cutlery and plonked it down on the table so we had to help ourselves. Dirty glasses and my starter dish was left on table. The meal quickly became cold and no-one came back to ask if everything was ok. Parsnips hard and carrots mushy so overall disappointing and sooo cold. We asked for condiments and then had to ask for spoons for the dishes. The bill fortunately did not have a service charge included however, we were charged for the first round of drinks which we had paid for. On complaining to the manager she said the heating had broken down that day hence ambient heating. She apologised for the service etc and gave us £40 of vouchers. We will not be going there again.

Visited The Bridge at Stapleton numerous times over the last few months, because it’s simply a great experience. The menu is fantastic, with so many options and they are all delicious. This time we went in a family group for daughter’s birthday and the evening before Mother’s Day ( combined celebration). Our group ordered lots of different choices from the extensive menu and they were all fabulous. I personally went for an Asian dish from the menu which was so good. Sweet Chilli beef if you need to know, as I love Asian food. It really was fantastic, came with rice, skinny fries and prawn crackers and it was top notch. Others ordered lots of different meals from beef stroganoff, chicken chasseur, fish and chips, venison and they were all spot on. On top of the great food, the fabulous atmosphere, you get a wonderful team of staff that look after you from the moment you walk through the door to the moment you leave. It really is the icing on the cake ( if you have any room 🤣 ) how the staff are attentive and friendly. I would like to thank the whole team for a wonderful experience, hence why we keep coming back. What an absolutely appalling service! We booked a meal for 10 people at 18.30, some of us did arrive 15 minutes early. They were told to wait in the waiting area to be seated and a drinks order was taken. When the rest of the party arrived at 18.30 their drinks still hadn’t arrived… more drinks were ordered. It took 25 minutes for the first order of drinks to arrive ( with lots of chasing from us inbetween). We were taken to our table at 18.55! We didn’t get to eat until 20.00! Inbetween all this more drinks were ordered and each time took about 20 minutes to get to our table. No glasses were taken from our table at all during the night. After we had eaten our table was not cleared. After about 20 minutes I asked if we could order deserts… then was asked what we would like. We hadn’t even seen the menu or had the table cleared!? Eventually this was done and the deserts were served. Regarding the food from the most part the food itself was good, although the lamb shank was completely overdone and the sizzler plate was just warm not sizzling. The staff did actually credit the lamb shank when we raised concerns over the night at the end of the visit, but I got the feeling the staff were hardened to the complaints. It was because ‘when it’s busy everyone orders drinks at the same time’. I asked if it was like this every week and apparently yes it is. I asked if they were understaffed but apparently not. The staff were so busy!! I did feel bad for them they seemed so used to being complained at. We were told it was due to us having such a large table but our drinks were in a queue with lots of other tables in that queue aswell so it was nothing to do with the size of the table - they were just enormously understaffed. I would not recommend at all - ESPECIALLY if you are taking an elderly relative who must eat early (which we did). God help anyone who is diabetic! Also the place is heated with calor gas heaters… not sure how safe these are while you are brushing past them with a floaty dress on so be warned about those! And if you leave via the back entrance remember a torch because you can’t see the steps leading upto the car park - my elderly mother had to have someone in front and behind her to guide her up them! Good luck if you book up!

My favourite place to go and eat. I’ll f you visit here please book in advance, we chanced it tonight and the place was heaving. We did get seated quickly but would always recommend booking. 5 happy eaters!

Food was nice however table was booked for 7.30pm didn't get seated until nearly 9pm then order not taken for another 30 minutes it was a large table of 14 including small children who were exhausted after the long wait

literally the best pie i have ever the meat is as great & so much of it. They defiantly don’t skimp on the portions. Cozy pub with log fires will return very soon

it is very rare for us to get an evening to ourselves and yesterday was one of those very rare nights been regular visitors at the bridge with and without our children the staff are always great asking how the children are or encouraging them to eat there dinner when we have them food was exceptional as always chinese food is always my favourite when eating here definitely recommend

Party of 9, absolute joke, we waited 2.5hrs from starter to mains. Mixed grill was overdone, not even asked how we wanted the steak cooked! Let’s say it was well done as were the sausages and basically all the meats. The beef on other mains were hard and difficult to chew. Staff members were rude especially the blonde lady who tried to tell me that I have to pay even though the service and meal was a disaster. Waited 20 minutes before we got our table. I will also be writing to manager/owner for a full refund The evening cost more for drinks while waiting for what they called food. Not a service we expected from the Bridge Inn Stapleton.

I decided to return to this place after a bad experience previously with the food. This time I didn’t get chance to experience the food as the table we had booked was not available. When we complained after a 40 min wait they tried shoving us in a cold corner without the fire lit and away from the restaurant atmosphere. Very disappointing. The bloke behind the bar was polite but the waitress didn’t give a monkeys.

We came here for my daughters birthday and it was not good from the start. It was cold with old fashioned gas heaters trying to warm the place 🤷‍♀️ I ordered the chicken curry OMG it csme in a soup bowl and was as watery as the water from a tap, I asked a staff member if this was normal and she said YES very quickly so I asked her for a spoon as I could not use a knife and fork. I tasted horrible and I left the meal. At the end the member of staff asked if everything was ok, I said NO to cut a long story short they only charged me half price it should have been take off the bill tbh. So in my opinion this is not a good place to dine. I spoke to another family and they where not happy also.

Had made a reservation for 12 people. Ended up being sat in a group of 8 and a group of 4. The small group of 4 got food first. The rest of us had to wait an extra15 minutes. Food looked OK but was mediocre really. 10 Sunday lunches, 2 were OK the rest were so so. Wrong orders and beef was awful. 1 burger which was pink in the middle. Only half was eaten. We were told that's how they are meant to be. The parmo was good tho. Went to the bar 3 times while seated to try and buy drinks but no one there until the 3rd time. Asked for half a Coke. Got a full pint. Barmaid said it's only 50p more after I told her I only asked for a half. Think someone got vouchers after they complained too. Fair enough. I won't go back though.

Had Sunday roast.. service was slow and poor. veg and gravy served 5 mins before meat and Yorkshires. So cold.... Was given wrong meats of which beef was more fat than meat. . Veg I think was microwaved..... Also still raw.... Not even aldente... Very poor for the £16.50. Also some heating would be good.

Had christmas dinner here, and I can honestly say we will be coming every year! Food amazing, staff amazing, great price especially for what you got! And most of all, my partner was full and even left a little!! That never happens ever! They made christmas special so thank you and see you soon 😊

Food looks the part, but if you are after a mixed grill go to Wetherspoons. It was very tasteless I expected better for the price not very hot. Steak was meant to be rear more like well done. 2 hours 45 minutes it took to get a starter and a main. Very disappointing never again.

Great food and venue, the waitress had a lot to do on her own towards the end of the evening.

We went before Christmas as a treat and my gosh what a massive let down. I have never seen so many staff look utterly miserable in one place before. We were grunted when taking our order, plates slammed on tables. The staff didn't have a clue about what to do and when (walking past dirty tables when they were empty handed, not multi-tasking). It's a real shame as the food was lovely, but front of house let it down, I will not be returning unless this gets taken over by new management.

Always love the food and everyone is so friendly.

VERY POOR SERVICE !!! waited 30 mins for booked table, starters were nice....then waited nearly an hour for our mains. kids got restless as were hungry. not enought staff serving at bar or food. over crowded. when mains arrived most dishes over cooked and dry, drinks took ages to arrive too... £330 bill WOULD NOT RETURN..AVOID!!

The good: pretty nice chips, nice beer although it wasn't what we ordered. The bad: went in at around 2ish on a walk. Quiet bar on one side, busy-ish restaurant area on the other. I took my daughter to the loo and had a look around at the tables, the place was probably... Two thirds full? Stood at the bar for about... 15 mins. Eventually I gave up and was kind of keen to leave, but my friend was persistent and moved further down the bar to be more in the eyeline of the staff. There was, I think... 5-6 staff members. They didn't seem busy, they seemed to be kind of milling about and looking confused. Not chatting just... Looking like they didn't know what was going on. My friend eventually got served and reported back that he thought we were getting the wrong beer, since the beer he ordered was not... Understood (?) by the waitress. Everytime he asked for it she mentioned a different beer, until he gave up and just said "yeah ok". While we were waiting for him, another staff member started a fire, which backed up into the room and started choking us, so we moved. Another staff member apologised and promised they were not trying to kill us, which was reassuring. 10 mins later our chips arrived, one less portion than we ordered. 10 mins later our beer arrived, some of it wrong, we couldn't be bothered to argue. We mentioned the missing chips and they said we hadn't been charged as they'd misheard, so we said it didn't matter, we'd do without. I include the picture about being born in England and etc. because... This is a quote from Warren Kreft, whose name, I noticed, was above the door. So it wasn't a quote from a long dead hero of English history. It was a quote, painted on in elaborate calligraphy, from the *owner* of the pub. Quite apart from the bizarre egoism and odd atmosphere of negligence towards customers, the quote fit in well with the English bulldog cushions, union flags, and etc. Bad service but, above all, a weird experience. Would not go back unless completely desperate.

Impromptu meal with hubby. Lovely atmosphere and want too busy, making it more relaxing. Great menu and meals delicious. 😋

popped in for an early tea yesterday as not very often we are all together and so glad we booked staff were great with my kids definitely made the extra effort the food was amazing i had steak and lobster and the steak was cooked to prefection what a great eveing

Lovely spot with great food we loved our steaks and the steak sauce was amazing. Nice to see a place having homemade chips as a lot of places we go they are not nice. Staff were polite, very busy place would recommend booking.

If lamb is what you love you will be amazed with there lamb shank. It’s beautiful. We came Saturday lunch time without a booking but we were accommodated straight away. Log fires roaring very homely & cosy.

Food was good quality but the actual pub was freezing cold , 2 portable heaters with 1 bar on did not provide any heat at all . Even in the toilets you had to wash your hands in freezing cold water . It really spoilt the lunch , won’t return until the heating is on and the building is warm and you can take your coat off . What a disappointment.

Go here if you want to be served 2 hours after your booking. We had to wait half an hour just to be seated, then had to wait ages to be served to the point we had to remind them to notice us. We did not eat until 2 hours after our original booking time. We then had to get up to ask for the bill before they even took our plates. We did let them know about all of this but they said they couldn’t do anything about it. So avoid at all costs. We had to cancel our evening plans we were that late. Not a good place. Food wasn’t even that great. Would not recommend at all.

A huge fan of the oriental food offering here as they do it so well & had to visit with there new menu choices. First thing we noticed was the prices have reduced since last time we were here & yet the portions are still huge. Our dishes came with rice, prawn crackers, & skinny fries enough to feed army. Love the bridge this time of year as its very cosy when they have the fires on, we will be back before Christmas.

Great meal as always but as usual far to much food and I can never fit in a dessert which the girls working always laugh about as on our first ever visit about 6 months ago we over ordered and the girls working have never forgotten

Slightly disappointed been coming here for quite a few years now when we are in the area never wanted to go anywhere else! Booked for 5.30pm all in darkness and then on came a few lights. it was so cold inside the restaurant, they did have a couple of calor gas heaters around…. but so cold we had to sit with our coats on for our meal, they said they have to wait for the heating to kick in as it had only been just put on for opening at 5.30pm. One of our meals was cold and had to be sent back which was a first for here. Both meals served on cold plates!. I do understand that utility bills are so expensive but in fairness at this time of year for the customers it should be a cosy inviting place.

Waited over half an hour to be seated, once seated drinks order took a while to arrive. Ordered food and bearing in mind our table was booked for 7pm we didn’t get our food till 9.15pm ish. The food was just ok, not as nice as I have had in the past. After requesting the bill this took over 20 minutes to arrive. Very disappointed as when we have been in the past we couldn’t fault it. Won’t be back in a hurry.

Love bridge inn. Been so many times and never had a bad experience. Came tonight with 6 friends. No wait, hot amazing and hot. Was too full couldn't have a pudding lol. Book for the Christmas menu next month can't wait.

Great evening the menu has changed since we were last here but still plenty of choice and lots of winter meals Definitely worth a visit

Overall very slow and less than pleasing food, did go on a Sunday. Carvery has been replaced by just reduced Sunday menu with everything other than Sunday lunches seemed rather bland. Sunday lunches did get choice of meats but even meats did not have promised sides (crackling on belly pork) server was rude when asked about this.

Popped in for our tea before bonfire night and we absolutely loved it. The bridge has always been our go to place & the food is gorgeous. Highly recommend a visit!
