Fish and chips as good as it gets.

No frills Chippy but could not fault the food. Wrapped in paper, no nasty cardboard or polystyrene. Batter so crispy and chips lovely.

Decent portion size. Reasonably priced suppers. Went for battered sausage which was ok but chips were very good.

First time eating here last weekend. Chips were really nice. Burger, though! Dry bun, no cheese, and a thin, tasteless burger. I know its a fish and chip shop, but if you're going to sell it, make it tasty, please!

Very disappointed, you advertise your open until 8pm on Fridays, yet at 7 15pm you were closed !

My husband picked up two haddock and chips and a can of Pepsi tonight. The fish tasted lovely and the chips were better than they looked, however the Pepsi was obviously produced for Germany, all the writing was in German and it was full of artificial sweetener which I can’t stand.

After extolling the virtues of the lovely fish and chips experienced in the past we called today having not been for a few weeks, oh dear what an unexpected let down, it was just not appetising at all with greasy chips and overcooked fish, we are prepared to give it another try in case this was just an ‘off day’.

After reading reviews, we expected a good meal. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with our take away. The spam fritter was greasy, the fish were OK, the peas were lovely but the curry sauce was thin & bland and the chips were very pale, soggy & greasy. Maybe we were unlucky & it was an off night as it was a busy Saturday dinnertime?

I love this Chippy in the centre of Leyburn. Good food, sensible prices and friendly staff.

Just visited the Fryer Tuck in Leyburn and has a haddock cooked to order. In 76 years I have never tasted a better piece of battered fish, fish great and absolutely fantastic batter. Highly recommended and demands a return visit as soon as possible.

The fish and chips are excellent, we've eaten from here three times so far this week! The haddock is first class and cooked to order, the chips are very good and the helpings are generous. Staff are friendly and efficient and waiting time is minimal. Thoroughly recommended!

Ordered 3 cod and chips and a cheeseburger. The fish was quite nice but the burger was not very nice the bun was dry and there was no cheese in the burger. The chips had bits of grit in them!

Not noticeable as a chip shop if it wasn't for the queue ..Had cod and chips..Good price ,on par with a lot of places.. Cooked exactly how I like it,you can ask for Lightly battered but I prefer it cooked more..A good size piece of fish,very tasty and flaky.. They only take cash here,but there is a cash machine in the wall next door..

Really great Chippy, placed a very large order for collection, not one thing missed and the fish & chips were delicious, we had to travel 7 miles back to the campsite and they were still piping hot, brilliant, we will definitely be placing an order on our next trip

Had fish and chips here whilst camping in the area and they were spot on. No nasty grease, really well fried and pretty good value for money. If I remember rightly it was cash only (which was a pain at the time) but all in all, a very good chippy.

I called in for my tea last night, i am a busy care worker in the area & hadnt time to go home to eat, i found this place clean & welcoming, pleasant staff & plenty of food which was very good. Thank you, i will definitely call again.

Visiting friends nearby and decided to have fish and chips as we were running late. Unfortunately we didn't get chance to try the food as after standing in queue outside for a while I finally made it into the shop and was about to order when I noticed the very small handwritten sign stating "cash only". Why should I leave the shop, go get cash and re queue to give you my business? It's 2021, cash is not often carried by many people and even less so with COVID being around. PUT THE SIGN IN THE WINDOW!

Visited here recently. Ordered Cod, Chips and Peas twice. The 3 ladies that were working, although were quite busy because of a nearby power cut I learned whilst waiting, were friendly and chatty. Service excellent. Food very tasty. Well done!!!. 5 from me!!!

The chips were not quality standard and to say that this was lunchtime was not what was expected. Very soggy chips and lots of scrap ends.

5 of us tucked into fish and chips and sausage and chips on 1st June absolutely amazing. Was a bit apprehensive after some of the reviews but ours were great. Dry crispy batter over thick white cod. Old school chips definitely beef dripping and very reasonable price.

Really disappointed, got 2 fish and chips to takeaway. Obviously been hanging around too long in the heated display, the batter was thick and stodgy rather than crispy. One piece of fish was definitely off and uneatable, but by the time we realised we were 10 miles away and too late to take it back. Been before and it was good, so I am hoping this is a one off.

We called in for fish and chips and were not dissapointed they were excellent, I would go as far as to say the best we have had for quite a while.

Had cod and chips from here last year and they were great. No where near as good in fact pretty poor. Fish was very small, small amount of overcooked chips. Shame as they were great last time.

Just re-opened with social distancing measures in place. Some of the best fish and chips we have ever had (proper chips!) and really friendly service. Amazing value for money, will be back!

Nice crispy batter and tastey chips. Really nice white cod which was really fleshy. Saw the lady freshly batter the fish and prep new chips in the fryer for my order. Only reason I didn't give 5 ⭐ was that the shop closes at 20:00. Expected to open a little later.

While we live in the Dales we do not get to Leyburn that often, but had started to call in this fish and chip shop from time to time when passing through, though we will never be calling again! The staff were clearly trying to get rid of some 'bits' of fish offcuts that they had battered and fried to form one piece, and looked to off load it onto someone they assumed to be a tourist [which to my mind is even worse]. While they did manage to get rid of a substandard product and got to sell it at full price, they have lost out, as we will never purchase fish & chips here again. When I took the first fish back I was asked in a brusque manner "what's wrong with it?" as thought it was not obvious. The replacement they gave me was no better. In contrast, back in mid September we had really nice fish and chips. So, they can do it, but are keen to off load their mistakes onto customers they assume will never return: they are right we will never return. I would give this spot a miss unless you have no alternative.

You have to make your own mind up but we found the food total and utter garbage. Very dry and no flavour, waste of money. For us it's certainly one to avoid.

Always busy feeding locals and holiday makers . The great thing here is that you can ask for personal touches such as lightly battered fish or “ well done “ . Add in great mushy peas and real chips and those delightfully crunchy “ scraps “ and all fried to perfection . What’s no to love !

Top quality fish n chips in a lovely country village. Great selection to choose from. Called in for tea from a day out and really enjoyed them. Would visit again when we are in the area again.

Unfortunately we won't be returning for fish and chips! Or any other food from this chippy. Although the food was reasonably tasty despite too much batter on the fish, the staff were appalling, very rude and not very friendly. Perhaps they were just having a bad day, but still, it's not hard to pass a smile and a friendly gesture on!

Excellent food . As you enter ask for options such as for light battered fish , or well done or haddock rather than cod . Great place here , freshly fried food as it’s a popular take away and so cooked food doesn’t linger long here . All served with a smile .

We use this chippie regularly as we own a holiday home nearby. We've never been disappointed ! Adequate sized fish and generous portion of chips, with a wide ranging additional menu. Fish is battered lightly and cooked crisply - don't be off-put by the curious orange coloured batter. The staff are cheerfully pleasant, polite and helpful, even when the shop is busy. Nice Yorkshire folk !

'Too greasy', 'Disappointing' I have read in a couple of reviews. What?! These are among the best we have ever had anywhere. I think people are too used to the pale, dry offerings most chippies serve up nowadays! These are obviously cooked in superior fat.They also offer gluten free every day which is fantastic for my coeliac husband.

I am rarely disappointed with the fish and chips that come out of Yorkshire, but on this occasion I was sadly disappointed.

It's always dangerous claiming anywhere serves the best fish and chips, but I've visited a lot over the years and it's the best I've had and the people who serve you are really nice people who want to have a bit of fun with you.

Visited on a Monday night after a day out in North Yorkshire. Had fish & chips x 2, curry and peas and a battered sausage and chips and cans of lemonade and vimto. Fish was fresh and hot, chips were nice. Service was satisfactory if pefunctory. Perhaps being the only chippy in the area means they don't feel the need to try? In spite of this i'll visit again.

Whether we have been spoilt with our local chippy at home or just have quite high expectations we were to see the least extremely disappointed. Fish in very orangey batter (fish inside white and quite nice) but very small, if our local served that they would give you two and chips were ok. Mushy peas were nice. Will not be returning

Day trip to Barnard Castle, loads of rtaurants and take always to enjoy, We chose Fryer Tucks and were not disappointed. I had Fish bits, cooked fresh and were very tasty. My husband had Fish patties and Chips, the chips were wicked best chips I have tasted in a long time. Very cheap just over £5. You can also get a Pensioners special Fish, chips, peas bread and a drink for £5.99. A little seating area out the front with a bigger area out in the garden. I also took my dog in which was no problem for a well behaved dog. Pleasantly surprised when lots of restaurants, cafe and bars in Barnard Castle took dogs.

Was really disappointed when we went in on Saturday for 2 fish patties and chips. Bearing in mind this was around 12 noon so the start of the lunch trade and they only had 1 fish patty on the premises. As this was a special weekend for Leyburn with the Food Festival in the market square you would have thought they would have been fully stocked. Both our chips were barely warm and my husbands fish patty was not cooked properly with the batter still runny on the inside. It is the first time in 24yrs of marriage he has thrown a fish patty away. We have used this chippy in the past although as we live about half an hour away it is only about once a year and they have always been delicious before which was why this was such a disappointment.

The chips here are exceptionally scrumptious!Nicely cooked and not too greasy. Everything else we've tried; fish, sausages etc are really tasty too. Oh and they know how to do 'proper' mushy peas! Pleasant, friendly staff too.

We were camping nearby and decided to sample some fish and chips from fryer tucks , didn't actually tuck in till we got back to the campsite ( literally 2 mins away ) and what a dissappointment!! Reheated chips that were dried up and wrinkly , the fish was ok but tiny and the sausages were burnt ! The whole lot went into the bin , a waste of money and time ! Avoid at all costs !

We wanted fish and chips for 30 and the obliged. Freshly cooked and great value. I recommend it to all the groups I know that come and stay in Wensleydale.

Did`nt actually get to sample the food here so i can`t give a true rating,i can only say that after a mind boggling phone call to double check opening times things don`t appear to be well at this place. Telephone call went as follows. Hello this is Fryer Tucks,as i started to speak i was told harshly to stop calling before hanging up on me. I called back 5 minutes later intending to ask what the problem was. The call was answered by a shout of HELLO ! before once again hanging up. With customer service like this don`t know how they are still in business and i have to question the commitment they have in serving up a good product.
