Terrible looking food. Some of the order wasn't even there. Never will I buy from here again. Mines gone straight in the bin. Shocking

Very busy so had to wait but it was worth it.

Absolutely disgusting food, spilt everywhere missing items and worst of all HAIR in it! Food wasn't even cooked properly hash browns might as-well of been put back in the freezer thats how uncooked they were! I wouldn't even feed my dog this food! Wouldn’t recommend to no one awful place! Concorde cafe ON TOP if u want a nice breakfast that’s ur place to go to not this place that can’t even cooked and pack a breakfast properly and leaves hair in ur food!!!!!

My first time at this cafe and I liked the simple atmosphere. Didn’t have food but it looked good and there were loads of choice. There was something for everyone. Coffee was from Wigan’s but my decaf Americans could have been stronger. Would happily return. 😊

A nice place to come for English breakfast in Bristol. Staff are lovely and the food is great value. Seems very popular with the locals even early on a Saturday morning which is always a good sign. Would definitely pop in next time I'm visiting Bristol.

I have been to Steak night twice now at the Totterdown Canteen and enjoyed both the food and company. The food was excellent and the steak was cooked just how I like it, the staff are really friendly too. We are going to book for a third time. We also go there for breakfast or lunch and have never been disappointed. I really recommend you give it a try.

Won a competition for a free steak meal for 2. Service was excellent and food was superb. It was being your own alcohol too. Lovely evening will return.

I have been going to the Canteen for years and it is a great family-run cafe at the heart of the community. The food is unpretentious, great quality and well-priced. Brilliant for breakfasts and lunches but also a shout out is due for their steak nights. I attended one of these last night and as always, great food, great service and byob. What's not to love?

We book to go to Steak Night once a month at Totterdown Canteen. The food and service received is always fantastic. It’s BYO and the meal is good value for money. We would highly recommend it. Also their daytime menu is varied, the food is tasty and great value for money. Whether it’s the day time or monthly steak night, we highly recommend Totterdown Canteen. I come here for breakfast at least once each week. Always friendly staff. Great breakfasts - either the full English or vegetarian or a variety of breakfast sandwiches on granary or white bread. It is very popular and so friendly.

Ordered a full english breakfast from here using deliveroo. Food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious, the staff are nice as I removed a few of the meal items I didn't like and they replaced them with extra food I did enjoy so I still got good value for my money. Only minor downside is the mushrooms can occasionally be a little too greasy, but other than that I highly recommend this restaurant!

Solid greasy spoon style café. We had some Panini and the Cajun chicken burger. The food was hearty, but not the highest quality I've had in this style of café. The menu is huge and can accommodate anyone. The service was good, and the decor and general atmosphere was very nice. Recommended for a good value lunch or breakfast

Ive eaten here twice, once for breakfast and once for their monthly steak nights. Both times were amazing. Really high quality of food served by people that obviously really care about what they're doing and incredible value for money. I really can't reccomend it enough. One of Bristol's hidden gems.

The 12 of us (adults and children) all had a wonderful time at Steak Night on Saturday. Extremely accommodating, wonderful service, great atmosphere and yummy food - what more could we want! We always look forward to our steaks, which are always cooked just the way we like. We’ll be back again next month.

I regularly have breakfast here, the food is consistently good and the staff friendly and efficient, the facilities are always clean. I travel around the country a lot and Zi feel you would be hard pushed to find a better cafe! I’ve read some of the poor reviews on here and I quite frankly can’t believe them, I’ve never had bad service or sub standard food here, as an example I prefer my bacon lightly cooked, a word to the staff after my first breakfast where the bacon was not to my taste and all my subsequent breakfasts have been done the way I like them! Remember this is a cafe not a west end restaurant and the prices reflect that, if you want the savoy grill pay the money and don’t slag off a well run family business that offers excellent food at reasonable prices! Best cafe in Bristol by far in my opinion

This place is always popular, which is a good sign. Always make time to pop in if I'm visiting Bristol. It's definitely worth the 20min walk! A good, varied menu to suit all diets.

It's always nice but to the owner last one I got charged 9 pound 1 extra black pudding and with a midium breakfast. I don't mind paying. But think got it rong on the day and that was to take otherwise always good

Been going there for over 20 years and when Greg owned it and his previous cafe near the three lamps in the 60s and 70s ......excellent service , good quality food at reasonable prices

This is fantastic. A total find, can't believe it's been here all this time and I've not been, especially after a heavy Saturday night. It's a great alternative to a Sunday roast and ½ the price too.

Lovely little place we tried for the first time recently. Couldn’t believe the prices and the food was really yummy. Very friendly service too and dog friendly which was a plus for our pooch :) he was even offered a bowl of water! Thank you ☺️

Fantastic local cafe, has a real charm where lots of cafes don't anymore. Lots of lovely families and people sitting and having chats - so super friendly vibe. Reasonably priced and fantastic food. On Saturdays and Sundays it's 20% more expensive but you will hardly notice it and it's more than reasonable due to increased visitors on those days.

I am not the person to post reviews, but it was the worst experience ever. I've never seen people more entitled and rude than the ones that work here. Definitely do not recommend. I would rate 0 if I could. I edit just because I saw the response. I hope you do realize that the entitlement and absolutely lack of competency when it comes to customer service or even being a decent worker can be spotted from miles away in your response. I NEVER admitted of ordering the wrong thing, you must be absolutely out of touch with reality. The only thing I admitted was that the waitress checked the order, and the name of the dishes were similar so it sounded exactly like the item I ordered, so the entitlement to change the narrative is discusting. There are some customer service training online, you MUST give it to your team, and meanwhile work to be a more decent human being and not shout at people that pay your salary. You were lucky that I was not person to argue so I remained absolutely civilized, but with this behavior, someday you won't be that lucky, and frankly, someone should tell you off big time.

Today I was having breakfast and I seen this boy get wrongfully treated , it was so sad to see , made me angry . I believe the boy was waiting for his food and he didn’t get the full amount he paid for ? And the manager was being so rude to him about it , put me off from coming back to that cafe ever again . They not treating their customers right , and I also waited so long for my food too , just didn’t feel like it was worth the money for the quality of the food . Appualing

This restaurant is a gem! It's arguably one of the best in the southeast part of Bristol. The staff are very welcoming and charismatic, with the restaurant being passionate about giving to charity. The food is affordable, with fantastic deals for students. Almost anyone can get a deal, too. The menu allows it. They are vegetarian and vegan friendly with the chef always willing to accommodate. Love this place!!! The aesthetic is colourful and historic with a brillant use of levels. It is a really good place for breakfast and to study. Simply amazing. I ordered the vegan breakfast with fried bread. OH, how I love fried bread now! The free tea that came with the meal and the chai latte that I ordered were lush.

Loved my breakfast except my fried bread was the crust from the bread which spoilt it for me never had a crust for fried bread ever..also a biit picky but tinned tomatoes dont do it for me..half a grilled one would have been great...

we’ve only lived in totterdown a few months but this place is already a very firm favourite for post-night-out breakfasts. really good food and excellent prices, as well as just a great vibe. the staff are all lovely and do a great job. very recommended!! [i would note that the only negative reviews seem to be for deliveries. why you would get a cafe breakfast delivered with such high expectations is beyond me tbh]

Very friendly with great food and very generous portions.

Quite a large selection on the menu! Including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. My partner and I had an all day breakfast, which we couldn't fault at all. Would definitely come here again.

Order on UBER. Says I cancelled order. When driver deliberately dropped order Had clean my hallway of milkshake. Refusing a refund Plus food not even nice Bacon Rock hard. Go to ring and says leave a voicemail. Terrible

Cheap and cheerful, just the job for brunch on a cold morning. Run by lovely people. Very popular.

First visit to this cafe and I was not disappointed with what I got. Great brunch, quality food and at a very reasonable price. Dog friendly too. Quick efficient service and we found the staff very friendly. I will definitley be returning when in the area again.

Lovely coffee shame the young girl who made it was incredibly rude and made us wait in the rain. Manners were non existent.

Ordered food and drinks on the just eat app. After a hour, Drinks came and no food, driver was rude, said to call. When we called, we just got an answer phone message saying to take it up with Just eat.

This is very rude staff the treat delivery driver very bad , I came to pick up order they don’t want to tell me how long should I wait and ask me to go outside to wait for unknown time

I’d read some good reviews of this place so thought I’d give it a try. Unfortunately I was let down. I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich. The bread wasn’t fresh and almost stale. There didn’t seem to be much bacon and egg in the sandwich. Average tasting. I also ordered a can of drink and this was put in the same bag as the food so it made the food cold. Not the best way to package a delivery.

We live in south Devon & come to Bristol to visit our daughter & her fiancé. We have been to totterdown canteen a couple of times before when we have wanted to go out for breakfast & this is the best place by far. Food is amazing, staff always so friendly & the prices are great. I did read a bad review which is really sad & of course your food is not going to be piping hot when you are waiting on the delivery driver to get there. If you want a super breakfast then this is the place to go as they are second to none. Just to say thank you again for great food & service.

I had an excellent breakfast. Staff were v helpful. Service was spot on. It’s a top caff - not a cafe with pretentions and kombucha. If you want frills and flounces you’ll be disappointed.

I am a bit afraid of writing this review and even my heart is racing a bit as I am writing this as they seem a bit hostile and really passive aggressive toward bad reviews rather than just trying to listen  and accept what customers are trying to say. These reviews are all subjective and they all had different experiences from the restaurant whether that experiences were good or bad and we have every right to be honest about our experiences and share our personal experience with the restaurant. I mentionted on the note when I placed my order on uber, the egg was fully cooked and hard which you dont want for your egg benedict ( you want runny egg yolk) it was not the type of eggs you would have expect and this happeded few times in the past. We thought it was microwaved as it looked like cooked by microwaved as it was shaped flat and perfectly round rather than oval ball shape eggs like a typical poached eggs . If you say it is poached eggs, okay no problem, you must have some special equipment to come out as different form as it is busy restaurant, I understand that you can't make poached egg with a typical way and it is absolutely understandable. Anyhow, that is not even the point, i wouldn't have mind if it was microwaved as long as it was runny egg and microwave cooking doesn't mean that egg wasn't fresh. We said on the note, we would like runny egg. Simple request. And they delivered the food with aggressive notes and they wrote this three time on the food box and the receipts. Honestly, it really upset us and almost mini traumatised about this agreesive response by their behaviour and attuide and coul not eat the food delivered as we felt sick in the stomach so just hed to trash them. We ordered the food from totterdown canteen Saturday morning for our family of 4 and it just ruined our day due to their unkind and aggressive gesture and decided not to order here anymore. I expect the restaurant would reply to this, just being defensive and just try to say what they want to say to make us feel wrong about posting this. Rather than listening and owning their fault and mistake, they would come back at you with passive aggressive tone as they did with the note  in our food and as they did with many other bad reviews here. However I have decided to be brave and not afraid of being attacked and just being honest about the way we were treated for other people who might have had bad experience like us. Please dont try to just pick on the words that you can twist and punch , please just listen and embrace, I ordered the food again here even though food wasn't always perfect as it is totally acceptable as we all are human and can't always make things perfect. We ordered food here so many times in the past and I simply wrote the memo for runny egg with a trust and as a reminder and certainly not for expecting to receive an attack. I wans't looking for a fight I was excited having a lovely Saturday morning with the lovely meal from the restaurant. How can I eat the meal cooked with negativity. This is not the only time we felt a bit upset about their customer servie but I am not going to unfold  that here too we did continue to order food here as we thought that he is just probably having a bad day and tried not to take it personally but this really confirms it and will not go near or order the food from here as it would remind us the bed memories.

Excellent service - Placed a large telephone order, was ready before the estimated time. Staff very friendly. Food was vey good and was still hot when back at the office. Everyone really enjoyed their choice. Thankyou

I can see that the reviews here are polarised! For my part this is a place selling honest cheap food. Its not top notch stuff but it is reasonably priced and we found the staff helpful and friendly. If you are looking for great cooking or a dining experience this is not the place to go, but if you want a quick cheap bite it is fine. Coffee was good too

Lovely traditional cafe with great food, friendly staff and decent prices. Good selection of vegan and meat dishes. Coffee was great too. Use it or loose it people. Hard to find a decent cafe where you can get a meal and a coffee for under £8 these days.

Lovely food at a very good price. Parking can be difficult. Not recommended for disabled people especially wheelchair users. This is not the fault of the business, its situated on a steep hill and is in an old building.

Always a great breakfast - but not just breakfast! Great value

I placed a order from Deliveroo. I paid just under £10 for a large breakfast. I did not want some of the items in the breakfast, and stated my preferences. When it arrived, it was fresh and delicious. The canteen were kind enough to add in some extra bits to make up for the breakfast items I didn't want. Excellent quality and plentiful. I will definitely order from Totterdown again.

We moved to Totterdown in the last couple of months and the canteen has become an absolute favourite. Fast service, friendly staff, good food and very reasonable prices. Whilst I can’t comment on things outside of the breakfast or brunch items everything we have ordered has been very good and there are a good number of options. Being right around the corner has made this cafe a regular visiting place and the coffee has always been excellent (and very very good value, especially with a breakfast or to takeaway).

The staff were friendly but the food was a little expensive for what we got (portion average and quality was passable). The place was really busy and had to move about 7 times to let people past me while I tried to pay. Not a cozy place to sit but rather in and out kind of place.

Lovely breakfast - choose based on location and recent reviews and to be honest it was great value for money, delicious and we would totally recommend. Busy with lots of people eating in and a regular stream of "deliveroo" style users collecting take outs for people. There is the odd moan in the reviews.. but if you are too lazy to collect cheese on toast and then moan... You really should step inside the place and discover how clean, friendly and good value it is... Totally recommend and set up for the day with just a regular size breakfast... There were plenty of other options too and a blue light discount for during the week!

Cosy and friendly with a flexible menu of great British breakfasts and lunch

Unfortunately not a great review, I ordered eggs Benedict with extra mushrooms and the Hollandaise was runny and barely there, the muffins were stale and hard, and it was served with lots of rocket which was yellow, black and wilted- should have been thrown away long. I appreciate I should have mentioned these issues at the time but there was nothing I wanted in replacement nor had the time to discuss the obvious, It’s a shame the cooks/ chefs have no care in their work. I’m aware you are short staffed/ hiring but if you can’t prepare something correctly then reduce your menu.

Really sad to be leaving this Review as I have always loved the Totterdown canteen , been a customer for many Years .. I would have always rated this one of my Top 3 cafe of all time, Last few times iv had it not been the same . Today I ordered food and I only live 2-5 mins away but it turned up more or less cold, also ordered cheese on toast and it wasn't melted the cheese . Apart from that I cannot complain as the food quality it spot on 👍🏼

Ordered from here about a year ago and it was great - have ordered a handful of times since and it has been nothing short of a shambles. Couldn't even take a bite of the eggs Benedict that I paid priority delivery for this morning - cold soggy and somehow both over cooked and under cooked at the same time. Debated whether or not to leave this review, but seeing the response to the last complaint where they accepted no responsibility and turned the whole thing around on the poor customer i decided that maybe you need some practice on how to respond to constructive criticism. As awful as my breakfast was, I am far more mortified by the way you handled the previous negative review. Embarrassing is an understatement.

The mushrooms were wet and flacid, did you boil them in water? Disgusting! It's obvious that whoever is in the kitchen isn't a trained chef.

whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion... i am surprised to read some of the reviews here as this is a fantastic place to eat and i would recommend Totterdown Canteen to anyone. The staff are very friendly and welcoming even at busy times - we once took our son on his birthday (at his request) they noticed his birthday badge and put a candle in his sausage to wish him happy birthday - lovely gesture! The food is reasonably priced and always delicious ... and most importantly not swimming in grease! ignore the bad reviews and please go visit this place .

Went for daughters birthday today - 8 of us. We’re all a pain and had different requests for most of our breakfasts! They did a great job, got everybody’s preferences right, the food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. Great value for money too & service from front of house was great. We visit regularly and it’s always good.

We are never disappointed when we visit. Always met with a friendly smile, happy staff and great food!

The staff gets your order wrong and then get the kitchen staff to shout at you that this is all your fault because you didn't double check your order. This is the experience we got when we went there. Talk slowly and loud and say it twice when ordering at the till in this place. Good luck! Anything but an enjoyable experience.

I have eaten here a few times and thought I had already reviewed it but checked and I hadn't so here goes. My breakfast was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Over my past visits I've had an omelette, a jacket potato and a couple of fried breakfasts and every one has been spot on. I highly recommend this cafe 💯

Had eggs Royal and my colleague had a bacon and egg butty. Eggs were perfectly runny, quality salmon and lush hollandaise. Nice that salmon comes with a good wedge of lemon. Can't fault the service or food. Will certainly be back. Thank you guys for quality grub :D

By chance we were told about this place by a girl working in a bar. She strongly recommended this place for a good breakfast. We took a chance on her advice and were certainly not disappointed in any way. Very pleasant and friendly staff with a greeting on entering the door. We enjoyed a small cooked breakfast each, they have a wide choice of foods on the menu which would suit most people. The place was very clean looking and bright. If we're back in Bristol again this will be most definitely our breakfast stop!
