Always a lovely experience at the Lansdown - great selection of pints and the food is always on point. Can’t beat the atmosphere and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. 100% recommend!

I absolutely adore The Lansdown – without a doubt one of Bristol’s finest pubs. There’s always a cosy, welcoming feel that makes you relax the moment you step inside. The landlord is outstanding: genuinely kind, attentive, and clearly pours a lot of care into running the place. It’s incredibly dog-friendly too, which is a huge plus. If you’re into rugby, this is the spot to catch a game. Quality pints, a brilliant crowd, and a cracking atmosphere from start to finish. Couldn’t recommend it more. And as for that previous review – I’m not Gen Z either, and I completely disagree! The team here are fantastic – warm, thoughtful, and always create a lovely vibe. It’s my go-to local whether I’m on my own, with my dog, or meeting friends or family. They show great sport (love how they spotlight women’s games too), and the food and drink are excellent – those wings, the Sunday roast, the wine list… all delicious and sensibly priced. I’ve never once felt out of place coming in for a quiet solo glass of wine and a read. Massive appreciation to the whole Lansdown crew – you’ve created something really special.

Absolutely love The Lansdown! One of the best pubs in Bristol by far. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming – it’s the kind of place where you walk in and feel instantly at home. The landlord is absolutely top-tier: friendly, attentive, and clearly puts so much heart into the place. It’s also super dog-friendly, which is a huge bonus. If you’re into rugby, this is the place to be on match days. Proper pints, great people, and just a brilliant vibe all round. Can’t recommend it enough! Typical Gen Z hospitality, if you don't like it, go elsewhere, so we did. They will be crying when it goes bust , again!

Well I'm not Gen Z and I disagree with the last review. Wonderful people who provide a great service and atmos. Feels like home, my proper friendly local who welcome me in, solo, or just me and the dog, or with family or with friends. Great sport on, proud to prioritise women's sport ❤️ love their snacks, their wings, their roast and their wine list - all very reasonable and not pretentious. Never made me feel unwelcome to come in, have a wine and just read a book on my own, if that's all I needed that evening. So thanks Lansdown team!

That was one of the worst roasts I’ve ever had. Especially for the price of £21, the one carrot was cold, the broccoli was was over cooked, the gravy was thin, the Yorkshire pudding felt like it had been bought from a supermarket and the beef had a lot of fat on. Considering the price and how much I’ve heard good reviews about this roast I was bitterly dissatisfied and will not be returning. Service and staff were good that was the only redeeming feature.

El asado dominical fue tristemente inferior a la media. El wellington vegano era tan duro que no era comestible. La porción de reemplazo era casi igual de mala, pero se había cubierto de salsa en un intento de suavizarla. Obviamente, las papas asadas se recalentaron, ya que también eran todas grasas sin medio y duras como roca. ¡Yo también vi gente en otras mesas peleando con los suyos! Y todo fue un poco tibio. No nos arriesgamos a quedarnos de postre. Qué pena ya que el pub tiene un buen ambiente. La próxima vez se quedará con las bebidas.

Me encantó este pub, así que estaba realmente decepcionado cuando nos sirvieron pintas cortas que el personal del bar se negó a recargar. Pedimos 40 bebidas en total entre 8 de nosotros y en nuestra ronda final un nuevo miembro del personal estaba siendo entrenado en las bombas. No quería avergonzarla así que esperé hasta que terminó y le pedí al otro miembro del personal que recargara 2 pintas que eran claramente cortas (las otras eran cortas también, pero no en la medida en que pedimos una recarga). Se sorprendió completamente cuando se negó y dijo que había una asignación del 5 % por cabeza. Señalé que incluso con la cabeza la pinta estaba debajo del marcador en el vidrio y él todavía se negó a recargarlo. El gerente también se negó. Realmente no entiendo el pensamiento cuando habíamos comprado tanto y solo estábamos pidiendo que se recargaran dos pintas. we went for roast today. asked for the beef to be well done and was told no- it comes medium rare and that’s how it comes, I asked if it could be left on the cooker for longer and again was told no and then the other waiter said that it was fine to have it well done so not the best start. 3 VERY small roast potatoes, 1 carrot and 1 piece of not cooked broccoli which was not hot, a small shop bought yorkshire pudding and some cauliflower cheese which was nice- ordered pudding, 2 brownies and 1 crumble, waited a while and then was told they didn’t receive any brownie on their order so had to choose something else sticky toffee -waited ages- crumble wasn’t cooked on the top of the crumble and the smallest pot of custard. ordered tea and coffee. the tea was already poured with milk and super strong, coffee didn’t come with milk or even a spoon so had to ask again. not the best meal and won’t be returning

Wonderful independent pub that does Bristol proud. Wide selection of all sorts of tipples to tickle which ever pallet passes through the door. Warm and welcoming staff. Great prices. I can't fault it. Didn't try and food but I imagine it would be delightful. A must visit if you are in the area! The perfect spot to pitch up and watch the sport also.

Great local pub with a great atmosphere indoors and a large garden out back. Good place to watch sports both inside and outside. There is a great assortment of local and international beers to choose from as well as wine and liquor.

The experience was awful. We waited 1 hour 20 minutes for our food to arrive only to be told we had to wait another expected 15 minutes which was a guess. When we decided to leave we were charged for half our drinks which were previously offered on the house but only when we made staff aware we were waiting. Most tables were visibly upset and the large party even told us not to order any roasts as it was mediocre at best. Will not be recommending to anyone especially since the competition and choice for food in the area is high.

The gentleman who served me honestly made my life so far. I’ve never met anyone like him. He made me want to try everything on the menu, he was so sweet and explained the whole processes so well. I feel like I’m going to make this pub my local even though I’m from Brighton. As I am writing this review he came and graced me once more with extra condiments. Honestly 10/10 service from robin.

Salí a almorzar el domingo con la familia. La carne de res y el pollo eran agradables, el cerdo era horrible, duro y absolutamente ningún crujido a pesar de que el menú decía que habría crujido. Pedimos condimentos como pedimos incluyendo sal y pimienta. Salió comida, sin sal y pimienta, sin condimentos. Pedimos 3 veces en total, mientras tanto nuestra comida se está enfriando. Cuando los condimentos finalmente llegaron en pequeños platos, no había cucharas. ¡Así que espera más cucharas! No sé por qué la sal y la pimienta al menos no están en la mesa antes de que llegue la comida! Uno de los nuestros pidió los condimentos por tercera vez y la camarera le dijo que no tenía que ser grosero al respecto! ¿Qué se supone que hagamos? ¿Ir sin él?

Great pub with a good selection of drinks and friendly staff. Nice garden with TV to watch sports. 2 for 1 burgers on a Tuesday is a must!

Food was truly awful. It took forever to arrive and seemed to be just frozen burgers and fat chips instead of fries as the menu stated. Some people on our table had food arrive 20mins before others. The hot dog was actually embarrassing, no better than a 50p ikea hotdog. Garden is as good as ever, but just avoid the food! Also the cask ale tasted like the lines hadn't been cleaned in a while.

A very very decent roast. Big portions, lovely roasties and carrots. Range of cider on tap was great, and both inside and outside had a great vibe! My only gripe was the vegan wellington was slightly dry and a strange texture - still tasted nice, but I would have preferred it to be mushroom or other veg rather than pure vegan mince.

An underwhelming portion of chips. It’s a potato for gods sake. So cheap and they mug you off on the portion. Asked for more and they didn’t do anything.

Went here for a Sunday roast. Quality of the food was poor and came out cold, with the carrots etc being quite hard. After querying the quality of the chicken, staff never checked back to see how we were enjoying our meal. Would not recommend this place for food or service, there are many other places to visit in Clifton and Bristol that do much better roasts.

Lovely pub with a good amount of space and varied beer selection. The outside is nice and there's lots of room upstairs. Also, they have lots of great vegan food options, including an excellent vegan roast on Sundays!

Went here for a beer and food while in clifton village the food was excellently cooked although a little pricey but if it's really good don't mind paying great range of beers lovely warm friendly attentive staff who always happy to help will definitely call in again the Sunday lunches here are amazing definitely a great place to go on a Sunday great little enclosed beer garden 😀 😊

My experience was pretty much as a fair few others have said - friendly and accommodating staff, but the food was extremely disappointing. Beer was fine, but there are many better places to eat in Bristol.

Went for a Sunday roast dinner and it made sure I never return for food. The venue itself was lovely and staff seemed friendly enough but they love to have a chat amongst themselves. This just means go to the bar if you need any service then they’re attentive. Food was luke warm, veg was rock hard, cauliflower cheese sauce was like water soup and the odd beef choice to use sirloin did not work nowhere near as well as initially expected. There was also no baby changing facilities despite there being space for it. Understandably, not everywhere has to be family friendly but if you’re serving roast dinners on a Sunday in a big establishment, expect people with babies (I saw loads). As a result of this, we had to change our kids nappy in our car and it was a disaster.

They got the table cleared really quickly, apologised and said they'd take a couple of drinks off the bill. Food arrived and was superb. We had all the different roasts and no complaints. If anything, there was slightly too much on the plate for some. Not moaning though because it was all cooked perfectly. Service was chilled but efficient. Young team, but all really switched on and helpful. Can't wait to return.

The food was luke warm and not that good . When we got the bill 12% service charge when it's a pub ? I'd had to wipe my table when we got there so not that impressed.

Honestly please don’t bother coming here, the pub is cold - no heating, and the chef is awful. We ordered lunch, it was a dry parpadelle pasta with a dry vegan Ragu sauce, basically dry quorn mince, awful. The crab burger was undercooked - clearly so because the batter was soggy and the crab itself was not cooked. The pub bar staff did not refund the clearly undercooked raw crab burger- saying the chef had argued saying it was cooked, well it wasn’t. Don’t bother - so many other nicer pubs in Clifton and Bristol. Didn’t manage to take a photo of the crab since it was sent back- but you’d expect the pub to refund food if it’s not cooked or sent back.

We had a great time at the Lansdown. It has a lovely, warm feel with great food and a good range of drinks. The staff were extremely accommodating of the many, many food allergies of our party, even finding an option off menu for one person. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Had a quick lunch in this very pleasant, very old little pub in the leafy, residential Clifton neighbourhood of Bristol. The Crabacado Burger was superb. Soft shell crab, in light buttermilk batter, with smashed avocado (guacamole) and kimchi, on a bun. Very tasty. Good selection of local craft beers and ciders too.

The Lansdown used to be something of an also-ran amongst Clifton pubs, but it's really improved in recent years. It has a fine range of beers, has been nicely refurnished and has a good menu - but it still feels like a pub. Will definitely revisit next time I'm in Bristol.

Fuimos con reserva y nos dieron mesa en ese momento justamente en la salida del jardín. Todo el tiempo entra y sale gente de esa zona porque también hay servicio de comida ahí. La puerta es grande y ruidosa y hacia frío realmente junto a esa enorme puerta. Los camareros no estaban sincronizados y pedimos cambiar la mesa. Pareció un grave problema y en el comedor de arriba había sitio más que de sobra. Creo que no son muy profesionales los empleados. Lo mejor, admiten perros y la comida era muy buena.

Great classic pub, top roast and atmosphere.

We booked the Lansdown for Sunday lunch with our kids. We were unfortunate to be seated opposite the door out to the garden which was also in use, despite it being a cold Autumn day. Throughout the meal the door was kicked open by the staff taking meals to customers outside, it was left open for minutes at a time as there was no self closing hinge on the door. This made it really chilly for us and not a pleasant experience. We mentioned it to the staff who said they would try and remember to shut it but it continued to happen. It's a really shame as the food was nice. I'd recommend if you book, that you ask not to sit near the door! There is no kids menu either, you can just ask for a smaller roast, although this wasn't explained to us when we arrived. I'd recommend the Lansdown get a self closing hinge on the door and also let parents know food options for kids or print it on the menu.

Just wanted to say how impressed our group was with the Sunday Roast, it was so tasty - every single element! Really impressed. Thanks to the chef and the great service.

Lovely pub, great outdoor seating area (hidden gem)! Had the Sunday roast which was 7/10.

Went to watch RWC - the "Manager" turned off the build up to the Ireland game because 'he was bored of listening to it' so put on his crap playlist and then left the pub!! The remaining staff (lovely newbie and lovely lady) weren't able to operate the sound system so the game started with no anthems and no commentary. We finished our drinks and headed down into Clifton to another bar where there was much better atmosphere and better bar management. Really disappointing as I had been here for 6 Nations and it was decent enough craic, but after that shambles we wont be back and we will be telling others to avoid.

Went for a Sunday roast with some friends. Putsidr seating in the sun was great and initially a lovely welcome. But then service was slow, both in ordering and then delivering. Then got the order wrong. But the food was nice

Booked for Sunday lunch, arrived early and they accommodated us despite being busy! The staff were friendly and the service was great. Had the chicken sharing roast between three and just about managed most of it. Tasted home cooked too so was extra yummy! Great portions, the camembert and apple crumble were also great. We were told that there may be a wait on lunch but the timings were great. We did not feel rushed either. Highly recommend and will be returning! Thanks all!

lovely Clifton pub which has a covered outdoor space with a massive screen for sports. The ale selection is great, it’s £4.70 for a pint of Doom Bar but that’s pretty standard in Clifton.

The Lansdown is my absolute favourite pub. They serve amazing food, especially the Sunday roasts. Staff are very friendly and efficient. I always take friends here when they come to visit as I know it will always impress! Great whether you want a sit down meal or a couple of pints. Highly recommend :)

I love the Lansdown, but this particular experience was not very inspiring. The staffing were quite inattentive and generally mulled around the bar area without paying attention to you when you needed them. Unfortunately, our waitress accidentally tipped about half a plate of gravy down my leg and boot and on the floor when bringing our roast over. She did not make any attempt to clean any of it up beyond bringing over some spare napkins and left me to wipe gravy from the side of my leg, and to clean the floor, tabletop, and side of my plate. Also none of the staff then collected the wet napkins from us either or offered bring some more gravy to replace that which had been spilled. I don't generally expect businesses to cut the bill due to bad service, but it was a bit of a shame that the staff did nothing to be more accommodating in this instance. That being said, the flood was absolutely lovely as ever, and the vibe of the place is very warm and unique. I'm sure we'll visit again provided I don't get painted in gravy.

Struggled to find a place taking short notice for a Sunday roast. Managed to find the lansdown on an hours notice. The food was fantastic and extremely reasonably priced. Thw roast itself was lovely and perfectly cooked with bottomless gravy. Side portions were massive and affordable. All the food came out very fast, and the staff are very welcoming and charming. My girlfriend is seldom defeated by a roast but the Lansdown gave it a good shot. Brilliant characterful pub, will be coming back again no doubt!

Visited with my family and we all had a different roast. They were all equally delicious. The veggie were so perfectly cooked, the meat so juicy and the gravy exceptional. We will definitely go back to try other dishes on the menu. Staff was super friendly with us and our one year old plus they recommend us an amazing wine! Thank you again for a wonderful Sunday lunch

We visited The Lansdown today for a last minute booked roast as were due to be in the area and are so pleased to have stumbled across it. Genuinely the nicest roast I have had for a long time (even compared to other places that have a highly rated reputation). We ate at a table in the covered courtyard which initially we were a bit dubious about but as we had a 3 yr old with us it suited us fine. It turned out to be warm and comfortable and a really nice place to sit for a couple of hours. The food was delicious, so tasty, generous portions and a nice variety of veg. The roasties were delicious, and there was a parsnip purée which was amazing. We ordered the cauli cheese in addition which was so tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive, couldn’t have been nicer. All in all it was a fabulous quality meal and would definitely return.
