Very cold no heating but awesome food

Visited in November 2023. Delicious food, most unique garlic bread, partner said best he’s ever had!! Lovely service. Booked last minute and fitted us in that evening. Staff very attentive.

Found this place totally by accident. Visiting York for a concert at the Barbican. Absolutely superb. All four of us enjoyed the food. Service was spot on and the staff friendly and welcoming. So wish we lived closer. (We are from Devon and Lincolnshire) would return ro York just to eat here, it was that good.

Out of Towners looking for a nice place to eat, Booked a table for Six, absolutely fantastic food, staff are brilliant too, top quality Italian restaurant, difficult to find places like this now. Every place has them you have to find them, highly recommend and will be going here again when we visit York. Thanks for a great experience

I can’t believe I haven’t been here before! Lovely cosy atmosphere with friendly staff and quick service, plus really tasty Italian food made the proper way. Don’t skip on the desserts too - they’re top notch. Will definitely come back again

Went at 5pm Friday before Xmas , before concert at barbican. Food very good service excellent in spite of it being very busy. We'll worth a visit if going to barbican

My 1st time here but our daughters 4th. (We don't l8ve 8n York unfortunately). All 6 of us enjoyed our food. Really tasty and great choice. Good service and excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend. Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous New Year to all the staff.

Please go and find this little gem tucked just out of the way . It's way above the chain restaurant offering in York center. The food is excellent and well priced

Wonderful place. Fantastic service from family run restaurant. I had a bruschetta for starter and it was the best I have ever had. Even better than one I had in Italy. Eccellente 👌

Just had the most fantastic meal here. We hadn't booked, but they managed to find us a table on a busy Friday evening. The food was excellent, and the service was so friendly and efficient.

Lovely atmospheric restaurant. Portions are a little light for my liking, but I guess that is nouvelle cuisine for you!

So happy I finally booked dinner here. Lovely, cosy atmosphere. Staff and even other diners very friendly. Food was really tasty and not overly expensive. I lived in Italy for 17 years, so I can be very picky about authentic Italian food. It really does hit the spot. Would definitely recommend..... I'll be back soon 😊

It was ok, got my order wrong twice and the pizzas were nothing special. Nice atmosphere and decor inside. Shame the food wasn’t amazing otherwise I would have gone back again.

Can highly recommend this restaurant, and upon our return to York, we would definitely book a table. Ideally situated if attending the Barbican.

One of our party of 3 was Dairy free. She managed to get salmon tagliatelle without the cream in the sauce. However we were going to have dessert and we thought she would be ok with lemon sorbet and was told no desserts were available as dairy free do she asked for coffee with oat milk to be told she would have to have her coffee black. The food we had was nice but it is not acceptable that dairy free and gluten free options were not on the menu

Lovely meal, food portions very good, staff very attentive. We couldn’t finish meal and we’re able to take away with us, the best garlic bread we’ve ever had, very quirky inside. Lush atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will be back next time visiting York.

Cool little Italian. Lots of character and good food. Better to book it's only small. Parking nearby can be tricky. But there are plenty of carparks within 5 to 10mins walk.

Totally impressed, going to York just for another visit

A slightly old fashioned but lovely Italian restaurant serving good authentic food. Although, it's not in the centre it's worth a detour to avoid the numerous chain restaurants that you find everywhere. The staff were excellent and I suspect the restaurant is family run. It's not fine dining but it serves good, honest food. The house wine was good too.

Didn't book, and it was Friday but we were given a table for two quickly, staff are lovely and helpful, the food is delicious, prices quite reasonable for food cooked to a high standard as this , we loved it!

Really really good Italian. Found it as a last minute stop before seeing a show at York Barbican and the food was amazing. All freshly cooked and really full of flavour and high quality ingredients. The service was very fast and friendly. Better than any other Italian I have had in a long time!

Needed somewhere around 8pm on a Friday night as we had just finished moving our daughter to a new flat in the city centre and wasn't hopeful the four of us would get in, but a table was provided and our drinks order was taken quickly with food not long afterwards. The restaurant was busy with a lovely atmosphere, plenty of staff who were attentive but not over the top. The food was delicious! Served hot and my steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals - margerhita pizza, marinara pasta, sea bass and steak! Desserts were to die for! Very reasonably priced given the location, parking nearby just behind the barbican. We enjoyed it so much, we are hoping to book for my OHs 60th birthday as it's worth the drive from Leeds and Sheffield.

Came here with a large party, lovely place and really nice food.

Didn't intend to eat here but really pleased we did. Food was very good. Price was very reasonable We had starter and pasta for main and thought it was a solid place to est. I would recommend this, especially if you are near the barbican.

Lovely restaurant with very authentic food and reasonably priced.

Italian restaurant Toto's is a excellent choice for anyone loving Italian dishes, the staff are efficient and friendly the food is amazing, prices are ok, and in a area accommodating three great proper pubs, the Masons Arms, the Phoenix and the Seahorse, the York Barbican theatre is minutes away also.

We were recommended this restaurant by our taxi driver. I am glad we took his advice, the restaurant had an authentic and rustic feel about it. We enjoyed the garlic and deep fried mushrooms for starters and the prosciutto crudo pizza for our mains. All dishes were excellent, fresh ingredients and very delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. A great dining experience.

The food was a true Italian experience The squid rings were cooked with a tempura style batter and the light texture compliments the homemade tartar sauce really fresh taste of the sea My wide had caprese and said that was excellent Spaghetti Bolognaise and a desert and I was happy Great night thank you

Wow! What a find! We loved our Wednesday dinner so much, we went back on Saturday. Fab food, good wine and brilliant service. Staff were very attentive and the manager was super - he remembered details of our conversation from first visit. Cost for 4 mains and drinks was only £90. If we had taken desserts, it would not have been a great deal more.

An excellent experience with tasty food and wine at reasonable prices. The staff were friendly and efficient especially the manager. We were so impressed we returned on our last night of our break.

Highly disappointed!! Our first time visiting York last weekend and I’d searched which restaurants to try whilst here - this one was the one that stood out to us as we absolutely love authentic Italian food as a family - especially our 10 year old daughter! However, we arrived an hour and a half before closing time - as stated online but unfortunately upon arrival we were given the cold shoulder straight away, no apology, no greeting - the man at the desk stated the chef had stopped cooking, never heard of this before, however this would have been ok if another couple hadn’t have entered after us and been offered a menu and a table? They hadn’t precooked as they asked us as we were leaving if the place was closing - to which I told them apparently so. My daughter was extremely disheartened as she also saw them be seated through the window. Very disappointed in the hostility.

All four of us agreed that this was some of the best food we'd had. Competitive prices in line with the area.

The highs of my dining here were the lovely atmosphere and the friendly and attentive staff. But I was expecting something a little more authentic based on the Google reviews. Mozzarella in carrozza turned out to be just two pieces of breaded mozzarella, not the deep-fried toast. The pizza base was just wrong (but the toppings were generous and tasty), and pasta all'amatriciana does NOT call for red and green peppers (none at all in fact) and pasta shouldn't be served with garlic bread. The food was nice, and I have no issue with restaurants adapting to local taste. I just wish one of the reviews had pointed this out beforehand, as I feel a bit cheated by the 4.7 star rating (not the restaurant's fault, more the fact that most English people have never tried actual Italian food). I still gladly give it 5 stars for service and atmosphere. The food came quickly and was nicely presented.

Absolutely delicious. Has pizza and cannelloni, so fresh and amazing. Really lovely wine. Great value, amazing service. Cannot fault it.

Everything about our meal was perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had a chicken special which was cooked to perfection and the tiramisu was the best I've ever had. The only problem was that we forgot to tip which gives us a good excuse to return as quickly possible.

Really enjoyed dining here during our mini break to York. The staff were all friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful, it felt homely and comfortable. The food was spot on, we had a starter garlic bread/pizza, and main courses from the pasta section. Freshly made and authentic. Will definitely be returning. Pre-booking is advisable, as there is limited seating. I would say it was well priced too, with the bill coming to just under £40 for a sharer starter, 2 mains, and 2 drinks (one of which was a wine).
