I didn’t eat, because I arrived after hours, but dropped in to see what the place was like. It was a quirky but quaint little place, with some wonderful old photographs on the walls. The owner was thoroughly engaging and was happy to give up her time to chat. I wish I had time to stay for longer. Next time though, for sure…

Needed a wee break so stopped for tea and scones. Scones were nice if a bit crumbly and the tea was, well tea so we felt £9.60 was a bit much. Service was not at all rushed so no complaints on that front

The worst fish and chips I have ever had. The worst takeaway I have ever had. I also got chips and cheese for my husband and it was pitiful. The "fish" (if I can call it that) was a tiny single piece of frozen fish which just didn't taste right. If the cafe had run out of fresh fish, I wish they'd told me so I could have went somewhere else. For a Friday night that was shocking! Really didn't even deserve one star!!

We came in for just a quick takeaway fish & chips, but wished we could have stayed for a full meal. Unlike many of the competitors in the chippy sector, the Tuck Shop obviously focuses on taste and authenticity (and satisfyingly crispy batter) rather than sheer amount and calorific value of the food, so what started as our lowest-cost fish and chips in Scotland also turned out to be our best yet. And with the (actually authentic) retro interior and friendly service, the place provides a proper old school diner experience. Plus it is also a very good sweet shop, souvenir shop and tourist information point!

This cafe is friendly and welcoming. So what it's not stylishly furnished and modern, you don't eat the furniture do you?We called one evening, just as I suspect the owners were about to close, but they were happy to stay open for us. We both had fresh cooked omelettes, I had mushroom which they had run out of, but the chap went out to the next door Indian and borrowed some! The food was fine, well cooked, accompanied by a large pot of tea.The cost was very reasonable.Thank you both, we'll be in again if we get this way againIt saved us from eating in our rather stuffy looking hotel dining room.

We enjoyed a hearty lunch in the Tuck shop. The menu is simple but everything was freshly cooked . The café is interesting with paperbacks for sale for £1 , for anyone who had run out of holiday reading , jars of old-fashioned sweeties and , of course , a wildcat ! My husband left behind his cap . When we went back for it , the owner said he was going to bring it round to the place where we were staying . So - there's kindness as well as good plain food at the Tuck Shop café.

We stopped here for lunch. Lovely quaint, wee cafe offering snacks and a few main courses including daily specials.( slight smell of frying as many of the menu items were fried.)We had scampi- good portion cooked to order with chips and peas and a slice of bread. We both had scampi and a drink for less than £20 so great value. . Servers were very polite and friendly .When I asked where the toilet was I was directed to the public toilets over the street, which was rather a surprise!

I was very hesitant to enter as looks unpromising from the outside & smells of frying. However at 3pm after a long walk there wasn't much choice! Dave & Lyn were very friendly, giving quick, attentive service. Most of the food is standard fare (unexciting, but what you'd expect from a café and all prepared fresh), at a good value, but the homemade soup and cheese scone were absolutely delicious and I'd definitely go back just for them. We also enjoyed their tea & fruit scone - another reason to return. Definitely a quaint atmosphere, but very relaxed & welcoming.

We have stopped at Toshac’s for many, many years and always been welcomed with a warm friendly greeting and homely heartwarming food. Don’t come here if you expect 5 star gourmet cuisine. At Toshac’s you get homemade soups and scones, sandwiches, rolls, burgers etc at a price that won’t break the bank. Just good, honest food in a friendly atmosphere. We never want to go elsewhere. Our sincere thanks to David and mum, Lynn for many years of friendly service. P.S the homemade tablet is a must!

Stopped for lunch went in and was met by a nice gentleman. The place has lots of books on the shelves, some prints on the wall for sale, hard boiled sweets in jars etc. Shelving is dated as the rest of the premises. I had nice home made soup and wife had some scampi which she said was very nice. Menu was what you would expect for a cafe.Coffee was not nice but the tea was grand. Served in a pot and old tea sets. It also does take out.

Definitely a throw back to earlier times, quaint and all the better for being so. Homemade soups that are really tasty, simple sandwiches/ toasties, mince and tatties, scotch pies with gravy, homemade scones and tablet, every time someone orders tea/coffee, you hear the kettle getting switched on, mix and match tea cups and saucers but matching mugs, yes it does look dated but not dirty, big jars of dolly mixtures, mint humbugs, soor plooms etc, Dundee cake to take away etc.. A book exchange, a big weirdly painted ceramic cat, photos and press cuttings on the wall of the man and womans previous lives. It does smell a bit of fried food, but they do fried food as well so why wouldn't it. The kitchen door seems to be always open, so pop your head in and you can see where your food is prepared Take your time in here, you won't be rushed out the door, no corporate uniforms or plastered on smiles, just genuinely pleasant folk providing the sort of cafe and service every town in Scotland used to have but sadly missing in most now.

We have stopped here twice on our drives to Inverness, well cared for by Lynn MacIntosh. It seems a nice break on the way to Inverness. Pleasant tea and scones, plus interesting articles posted. Seems Mrs. MacIntosh was threatened a couple of years ago by an officious person claiming EU authority. The EU-er because her shop used a scale in ounces and pounds, vice metric. She was told she could be imprisoned for failing to use proper measures.

This is a greasy spoon and does not pretend to be anything else. The owner was friendly enough but the food was bog standard to say the least. The chips were OK but the fish and the burgher were clearly out of the freezer and had been thrown in a fryer. The bread was Scottish "Pan" bread from a supermarket and was completely listless and tasteless. If you are happy with this kind of food then fine. Perhaps I set my sights too high and should have found somewhere else.

The Tuck Shop serves up straightforward cafe food from fish and chips to soup and a sandwich, all washed down with the friendliest service you'll find anywhere. It's quite ridiculous to try to compare this with a restaurant environment - it doesn't try to do that and is simply there for anyone who wants a no frills lunch, dinner or snack at a great price. But one aspect of the Tuck Shop is rapidly becoming legendary.... if you want the best homemade soups on the planet, this is the place to go! From lentil and vegetable to fabulous bean and bacon or the subtlest multi-flavoured minestrone, the soup of the day will never disappoint!

After a Saturday night of excess in the village hostelries it was great to happen across a cafe serving homemade food late on a Sunday afternoon - the only cafe open in the village. The lentil and veg soup was excellent as was the homemade scone and tea - it sorted me right out before a long drive home. The price was very reasonable and the owner friendly and up for a chat. I'll definitely go back when I visit the town again.

But it is to my liking and also my friends, we frequent this place quite a lot and find very quaint, the food is impeccable the portions are worth the price paid, table linen is washed on a regular basis, yes the cans do say not to be sold separately but that's meant in a store selling the drinks not a Café, it's only a small family café and only Mother and Son work it, so what do some of these people expect who have made reviews on this little Café, the Mother and Son are very pleasant, Good Food, will be back again.

First cafe we came to when visiting this lovely place so thought we would try it........bad move, if you go next door or further up the village a lot nicer places to eat. Dirty table clothes, decor is stuck in 1950's or 60's not in a good way, dusty, musty books on shelves, food over priced, owners are strange to be honest me & my partner should have left then!! Food arrives by a guy with greasy hair, no teeth & dirty finger nails then for him to go back into the kitchen where had prepared our food to constantly cough, coughing up flem by the sounds of it, blowing nose etc disgusting put us right off our food then we also noticed they had serviced us both multipack cans of juice "not to be sold separately" but being polite Brits that we are we paid & left quietly but I felt sick the rest of the night & was the worst £16 we have ever spent on greasy toasties, bowl of tasteless soup & multipack cans of juice. Such a shame to visitors because the village is lovely & most defiantly have lots of other great cafés in Scotland

Although the people running this cafe seemed very nice, that's where the good things stopped. The sandwiches were awful with spongy supermarket bread and boring fillings. The surroundings were like the 1950's and I'd be embarrassed if visitors thought that this was the best that Scotland could do in terms of a cafe - retro but in a bad way! It does seem to open long hours but I'm surprised they can compete with other cafes in the village. I'd have to be really hungry with no other options to go back. Pity, as the owners seemed really nice.

Walking along the Main Street, Newtonmore I saw a place advertising fish and chips that looked more like a traditional village café or a library or a haven for lost souls to drift into at 8.30pm. I was surprised to find the door open and a very pleasant guy serving hot coffee and freshly made Dundee cake. It's almost like the kind of place you'd find in a Brautighan novel. I liked the odd mix of the place, the musty looking books on the shelves and bunny tea pot on display in the window. It was the type of place we could have sat till 12 and the owner would have wished us well - no rush and really just an oddly charming wee place. I can imagine it would not be everyone's idea of fun but we liked it. I think the chap must make suppers with chips to order which again just doesn't fit but does - if you go you'll understand. Anywhere in Scotland open after 5pm deserves a visit.

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey.
