We called in when visiting Smoo Caves to a burger van in the carpark of this cafe. Served by a very friendly lady and had amazing burgers, hot dogs, bacon rolls and drinks. Refreshing to be somewhere where you are welcomed. We sat out on the picnic tables. Highly recommend.

While on our NC500 Trip with friends in Motorhome we visited here for breakfast, we were made very welcome and the food and service was excellent, the owner is so nice, and warmly filling us in about the area. She and her husband were also so understanding and very nice when we managed to sink our van at the side of their building when filling up with water, which took a local JCB driver to pull us out. Everybody was so nice they deserve to be visited by everyone visiting Smoo Cave (just 100 yards down the road), I can only thank them sincerely for their help.

We were looking for a place to get a bit to eat for lunch. Found this place and we only went in because we were hungry and thirsty. From the outside it looks like something you might picture being in a Stephen King horror novel. Don't think it has had any improvements or renevations since it was built and the inside was not any better. It was like stepping back I time to the 1960/70s. The food to ages to arrive and all we had ordered were sandwiches and got filled rolls. When it did arrive it was not worth the wait. During our time up this way this was only one of two places we did not return to.

Simple café qui fait aussi supérette, bureau de poste et marchand de journeaux. Grand balcon qui fait office de petite terrasse avec un réfectoire intérieur d'une dizaine de tables. Le "centre de vie" de Tongue !

We had just visited Smoo Cave and stopped here for a drink. Two had a can of pop and another a pot of tea. The cafe is run by an old lady, and everything is made 'out back' and then brought front of house. The interior of the cafe does make you feel like you're going back in time a bit. The tea was presented in a teapot with a lovely china tea cup, all served on a tray. Prices were very reasonable and the old lady friendly.

We staid here for one night. The owner Mairi Clarke was a great host. She's a very unique person, I understand why some wrote here she doesn't say a lot. But that's I think due to the fact that she can't hear as good anymore - just speak a bit louder and she'll help you with everything. Not a 5* establishment, but very cosy and unique - a place and a host like right from a Wes Anderson movie

Stopped off here for lunch whilst on a tour of northern Scotland. The service was dismal, the food was ok except for the soup which had hair in it! Would no5 recommend this place.

Great cup of tea. Very nice brownies! Probably not a lot of choice but it was outside and the door was open.

We pulled in to this cafe whilst covering the NC500 recently on our motorbikes. We were cold and needed a hot cup of tea. Stepping back into the 1970s, this cafe provided a hot cup of tea but little else. The lady running the cafe spent the whole time in another room with other people through a door marked ‘private’, and we didn’t see her once she had served us. The refreshments available consisted of a few pieces of cake and half a dozen different biscuit bars from multipacks. The tea was good however and the toilet worked.

Note positive pour la déco des années 70-80.

I had been trying to catch this little café open for about a year and finally did so this week. Sadly, I was bitterly disappointed with what I found: Although the eating area was clean and tidy, the toilets were rather unpleasant. The gents toilet pan was unclean, with poo smears under the seat and yellow particles at the seat/pan junction. My wife said that the ladies were also in a poor state of cleanliness. We only had tea but although plentiful, it was made from what can only have been the cheapest of catering tea bags. As noted by another reviewer ..."The sole member of staff was a very dour woman who barely spoke...". Had it not been for the appearance of a friendly Australian Motorcyling couple, our visit would have been a totally miserable experience.

The White Heather Cafe. Where to start. A must see on the NC500. It would make a halarious fly on the wall documentary. Don't miss this one unless you are easily offended a vagrant or just need a shelter. It is an Unusual experience and looking back I think it was a windup. You will never see anything like it. The service industry has come a long way since the dark ages it's like a living museum. Food basic Customer service Halarious Experience Priceless Monty Python dosnt come close to this one. Seriously you must go and when you leave you will be asking yourself did that just happen. It is the thing that we have talked about the most and if the tears running down my cheeks at dinner were anything to go by it certainly achieved the desired effect.

Situated on the short walk between Smoo Cave and the village of Durness. Ideally if you want a quick drink (hot or cold) and a snack. Limited outside seating and clean but basic. Fantastic views.

I was part of a group of 12 along with our excellent guide and driver. We stopped here for lunch and weren't disappointed. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the place was very clean including the toilets. Although we were a group of 14 our food was produced quickly and was delicious, ranging from fish and chips to salads. A great place to stop for lunch!

The cafe is clean and service welcoming and friendly. They serve a range of casual breakfast and lunch items including rolls, soups, jacket potatoes and other hot dishes. It gives the impression of being somewhere that could be so much better with attention to decoration and ambiance. We called for coffee and a snack hoping for scones or something similar but there was only one scone and three pieces of cake on display which all looked rather tired. Meals are reasonably priced and we would go back and try hot food.

Popped in for breakfast, didn't expect 5 star as the exterior is far from attractive, but with little else serving breakfast in Durness beggars can't be choosers. It was awful. Grubby and untidy. My husband had a cooked breakfast, which was edible but stingy. My daughter had a flavourless overcooked bacon roll. I asked for toast and jam and got two slices of bread, one brown one white and a single plastic pot of marmalade - not jam. The coffee was unrecognisable as coffee, more like dishwater and lukewarm. The sole member of staff was a very dour woman who barely spoke, We sat at the tale and she disappeared into the kitchen to prepare stuff. She just plonked everything down in front of us without a word and disappeared again, so we were unable to ask for jam as the menu said or for the coffee to be refreshed. The place also smelt bad inside.

On visiting Durness for first Tim in 38 years, was disappointed to find every where shut till we came across this place certainly takes one back a bit, fell down step into ladies only to find sign on back of door when you close it saying please mind step!. We had soup and toasted sandwich and tea and coffee, you just have to watch the pricing at the end as the soup and sandwich were together but she was trying to price them separately perhaps she just had a bad day it was very quiet.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.

We stayed at this Inn/Hotel at the beginning of November, returning home we received an email asking us to review our stay. This we did by email, however, we did not receive a reply nor did we receive a reply to our follow up copy email, which I now type below. "Many thanks for your email, usually we send a report good or bad to Tripadvisor, as you have asked for feedback I am happy to share our thoughts with you initially. I have an email from you confirming our reservation from the 4th to the 8th November, 2024 in a Garden Room. This was because we have a dog and thought this would be an easier option should she need to go outside. When we arrived we had NOT been booked into a Garden Room for our five nights, as per your confirmation. We were offered a garden room for 3 nights and two other nights elsewhere within the hotel. I really did not feel changing rooms, packing and unpacking for two nights was a good idea, so we opted to stay again in Room 111 for the five night stay. I am sure you will agree, this was not a good start to our holiday. I spoke to another couple who had also booked a garden room only to find they too had been misallocated a room and these long established customers were very upset and vowed not to return next year for their 8th year. I feel it necessary to draw to your attention the lack of servicing for Room 111. Each day our duvet was "just turned over at the top", the bottom sheet was not straightened and the pillows were as we had arisen, not even straightened and aligned. The cleanliness in the bathroom left much to be desired. As I am sure you are aware there is no toilet brush next to the lavatory. The toilet was not cleaned throughout our stay and the bowl after five nights was turning a light shade of brown, however, diligent attention was paid to folding and making the spare toilet roll and the one for use look pretty. I would have preferred a clean toilet. This takes me on to the bath. On arrival there was a single long dark hair in the bath, as we did not use the bath and both have grey hair, this was still there when we left!! The shower doors require a thorough clean and polish, there is black mould on the wall and around the base of the shower. During our stay this was NOT cleaned at all. Mould and Mildew spray with a toothbrush would solve this problem. Likewise the wash hand basin was neglected. No dusting or vacuuming was carried out in the room for the duration of our stay. For your information I left a piece of cotton and a clean tissue on the floor and they were not picked up. When we had dinner in the bar area dogs were quite welcome. However, in the morning we did feel rather like second class citizens as we were with other dog owners required to use the alternative dining room, which was uninviting and a long way from the self-service area in the breakfast room. On two days for breakfast we were along with four other owners with dogs, allowed to use the breakfast room. No explanation was given for the flexible rule. To end on a good note, the staff were pleasant and helpful, always willing to assist in anyway they could. It is with interest I await your response. " On our next trip to Scotland we shall stay elsewhere.
