Sapporo on draft, a fantastic range of yakitori, a warm and cozy atmosphere: my personal favourite izakaya in London.

Booked a table for 2 and were rejected for a big table. We notcied the big table was reserved for another group of 2 and wonder if it was because we were not Japanese. The restaurant would benefit from improved service by the lady behind the bar. It is a pity given the high quality of food.

Came here for lunch, looks to be Japanese owned. We enjoyed the yakitori very much. The service was not very friendly though and the seating was not comfortable. Would love to try their sushi/sashimi next time!

Went here as a table of eight and had a fantastic evening. Good service and delicious food. The tempura was really light and not greasy at all, the tuna sashimi was the star of the show, the cooked sea bream seriously good. Maybe not the cheapest, but worth the price for sure. Want to go back and try more of the yakitori options.

I lived in Osaka and this food is the closest to taste and quality and authenticity. The gyozas were amazing! Udon tempura soup is a must! Fried oysters are also delectable. This is hands-down the best food I’ve had in London in the two weeks I’ve been here. Great job! I will be making this my last stop before I head for home on Saturday. ❤️

Terrible Service - Avoid This Restaurant! We had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant and want to warn others in the neighborhood. Despite booking our table in advance and arriving 15 minutes early, we were denied the table we reserved. Instead, they insisted we sit at a terrible table inside, with no reasonable explanation. This was especially frustrating as I had already informed them that we were celebrating a birthday! The worst part was the attitude of the elderly lady at the cashier. Her demeanor was rude and unfriendly throughout the encounter, and it was clear she had no interest in providing decent service. To make matters worse, the table we reserved was given to another family, who I strongly suspect were her friends. If the restaurant prioritizes serving only their friends, they shouldn’t occupy a prime spot on the high street. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that offer better quality and treat all customers with respect. It’s a real shame that the chef and owner have partnered with such poor management—any guest who isn’t in their circle of friends will likely have a miserable experience here. We didn’t stay and left immediately, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place unless you want to be treated poorly.

A small restaurant without charm with excellent food, you have to reserve a table no matter what. The crab is delicious, the chicken or vegetable skewers are perfect, the pickles are worth commenting on. Attentive and professional service

Ridiculous Feel pity for this place

If you love Japanese skewers, you would not be disappointed at Tosa. Skewers were prepared very well, the meats are tender and juicy, and packs that delicious grill smokiness. I would recommend the ox tongue, chicken, and pork belly. Other side dishes were also great, sashimi was fresh, the salmon cheek was grilled very well, and the appetizers were refreshing. Of course, don't forget the perfect pairing of skewers with a good pint of Japanese beer!

The service attitude of the older Japanese female managers is terrible. I have never met any Japanese like her and she is in the service industry！ Since they came back from holiday and reopened, The freshness of the food dropped dramatically and even the chicken had some strange tastes. I used to eat in this restaurant but now I can't stand their service any longer and I will never go to this restaurant again.

All the dishes were very satisfying. However, as others have written, the service provided by all the Japanese female employees was incredibly low-level and extremely unpleasant. We request improvements for the sake of the store's quality. It's a real waste because the quality of the food is so high. I would like to go again, but the customer service makes me think twice.

Great Izakaya style restaurant in Chiswick/Hammersmith area - oishii food and cold beers - recommend! Yakatori grill with variety of skewers and wide ranging menu.

Have been coming here for over 15 years and the food is still great , but service is not very hospitable. One of the staff (senior) went out of her way to make my family feel as much unwelcome as possible - even my 12 year old asked why the lady does not like us . If you don’t want bookings at 2 pm when you shut at 2:30 then don’t take them . Will not be going back.

Are u nuuuuuuts to give 4 stars? The food is disgrace to Japanese food. Has this so called cleat mushroom soup, £4, it make you lost faith on humanity. When I asked what is the soup,manager did not even bother to explain. This is the worst japanese food I had so far in london. All because you silly westerns have no idea about how food should be tasted like. Shame on your 4 stars. Unfortunately, this costed my £55.

Authentic japanese bbq on skewers, best pair with sake or beer

Authentic Japanese grill restaurant. We went on a Saturday for dinner - you must book in advance, we were turned away another Saturday when showed up with no reservation. Loved the Tosa roll (sushi) and squeuers in general: quail eggs, asparagus, sausage and pork were all fantastic. Horenso No Gomaar was also a very tasty starter! As a dessert they offered green tea or chestnut ice cream, which were also very good. Overall would recommend for the environment and reasonable prices.

An absolute hidden gem in west London if you’d like some yakitori skewers! It was quite enjoyable to sit in front of the grill and watch the skewers sizzling. The food was great and authentic as well as being reasonably priced. The atmosphere was comfortable, although being a small restaurant can sometimes be a bit busy.

The Japanese-style skewers, cold noodles, and tempura are all of excellent quality. The atmosphere has a bit of an authentic Japanese izakaya feel.

Chill and uncompromising atmosphere. Friendly service and amazing small plates. Go for the skewers and deep fried stuff.

Our favourite restaurant in the area by far. Fantastic atmosphere, service, food, drink. It’s beautiful in every way. So much so that, a few weeks ago, after a week in Tokyo, I came straight from Heathrow to a meal here. It’s the best.

Everything was delicious and delivered very quickly. Friendly staff and you must try some of the Japanese whisky.

I have been to this place many times 10 years ago and visited recently for lunch. As a person who spend half of my life in Japan living and working hospitality sector, it so sad to those places like Tosa in UK. How they change.. restaurants was almost empty regardless of it’s a beautiful weekend. The most beautiful thing about Japanese hospitality is how they welcome the guests and the attitude towards the guest. That’s why they have a saying “customer is god” . The mangers of this place that middle aged Japanese lady is surprisingly unwelcoming person with very rude attitude. I saw a smile only when we pay my £170+ bill with cash. Unfortunately that atmosphere is all over with a very rude young Japanese guy who is short of words just following his managers attitude. Good selection of robata grilled skewers. Sushi is ok but not the best for comparing to other Japanese running establishments in London. Very awkward uncomfortable atmosphere. Need a real overhaul. Not surprised why the place was empty.

Authentic atmoshere and special yakitori skewers!

Closed. Went there on a Wednesday evening, and waited there for about 15 mins so I decided to go to another restaurant nearby. After I finished my dinner and passed by Tosa at almost 7 pm. They were still closed and the store was so dark. Just looks like they are out of business. UPDATE: Look how arrogant their reply is. They are NOT even sorry for the inconvenience. When I arrived there, some people were waiting outside like me, and even a lady said she booked a table. I don't care if you decide to close or not, at least you should put a notice. And thank you for your advice, never come to visit such a RUDE and disrespectful restaurant like YOU.

Service atrocious and they seem completely unaware of how bad they are.

I came to this place with my girlfriend for dinner. Great experience! The place is divided into two rooms, one at the entrance where there is an open grill and a separate room with other tables. Delicious food, varied and complete menu, friendly and polite staff and excellent value for money. The only flaw was that our table was located between the two rooms in a very noisy and slightly dirtier position than the other two rooms. I would go back

For 15 years this place was amazing. So much care in choosing and preparing the food. Last weekend it was amazingly disappointing. 4 pieces where there used to be 6. Fewer careful details to the food. Sloppily slapped together rolls. Sad that I will not be going back anymore.

Bad experience, ruined my day. They forgot about our order so the wait time exceeded 45 minutes and I wouldn’t complain if the food was decent but it wasn’t. Tasteless and bland soup, I’d rather have an instant noodle pot. Chicken portion was ridiculous and it wasn’t even tasty or tender. Sushi was okay I’ll admit but I wouldn’t come back. Maybe it was a mistake not to get grilled dishes they’re known for like skewers but if you don’t intend to make a dish taste good don’t put it on the menu.

The food is delicious👍🏻 But I was a little disappointed that the fried food didn’t come with white radish.

Authentic Japanese cuisine. Very minimalist and on point. Dinner was amazing and would definitely go back again.

What a way to wrap up 2023! it was the service that killed the experience! We made a reservation in advance for lunch on NYE. We were seated on a table which was next to the main foot traffic so we asked to be moved but they were very particular with seating arrangements, and the member of staff told us very bluntly that the table we wanted to move to was reserved. I guess they have special tables for special guests. We settled with a table at the back of the restaurant. A young Japanese member of staff took our order but when we explained our allergy intolerance she froze and the lady who moved us initially came to take the order. She perked up a little when she took our order, seemed chattier than before. She explained that they don't normally accept that many allergies and it's a working kitchen and there's a possibility of cross contamination which we fully understand. The food came, the grilled dishes were served plain to avoid allergens, we enjoyed most of it until we realised there was mayo in the maki roll we ordered half way through eating the dish as it was mixed with other dishes, we alerted the staff and she could not believe there was mayo, but we were fine and said we wanted to order another one of the same without mayo. We said we wanted a new order, we didn't even ask to return the order with the allergen, we were going to add a new order. The older lady came she said they have run out of salmon, avocado and cucumber and seemed very nonchalant about the allergen in the dish and turned her back on us before we even finished talking to her. Clearly she didn't want to serve us. Appalling and rude service! Never had anyone turned their back on us at a restaurant. Photos of the food we enjoyed initially but we didn't manage the rest of it.

I love this restaurant that is a real Japanese Taste Restaurant in London. You can feel " Japan " Always busy...so do not forget to make a reservation in advance.

we were taken to Tosa by friends. Luckily they had booked as the place was full and more diners came in to take tables vacated Service was friendly and the waitress good at explaining items on teh menu We had a real mix of dishes, some vegetable skewers - onion, asparagus, asparagus wrapped in pork, chicken skewerrs, mixed pickles, udon noodles, sushi etc all were good, portions on skewers small though We had quite a lot of sake with teh meal which was very nice We really enjoyed teh meal and would definately return

Loved the yakitori, salmon was good. Was really affordable compared to other places in the area, and a nice atmosphere. Definetely recommend it and visiting again.!

This is definitely a five-star restaurant! Very authentic flavor. They cooked the skewers with charcoal so they have naturally embedded scent when served to us. Meat was very tender.

First time to visit this yakitori Japanese restaurant. A very good surprise! Indeed, the charcoal grill in front of the bar was eye catching....the yakitori and others food were so authentic...will definitely come back.

The service and atmosphere are really great but I am afraid the food is so bad. The quality is lower than any franchised sushi. And the grilled meat is worst than cooking at home. The meat is taking out some plastic commercialised bags and sushi is flavourless. And let’s not speak about the portions that are so small! One Of my worst ever restaurants. I felt so frustrated that I even had to pay for so bad experience!

Highly recommended. The lunch set is very reasonable. But if you want to order Yakitori, it takes time… it’s just the way it is. Also one waitress was very rude, but others were all fine.

Had a lovely meal here. Didn't try any Sushi or Sashimi but the grilled food we selected and tempura were excellent. Staff very kind and efficient. Will defo return. 🙏

Visited lots of time! Although the restaurant is small, the food was pretty good! Really recommend sashimi it’s v fresh!

The food here is delicious, especially the skewers. However, the staff are among the rudest I have ever encountered. Make sure you reserve in advance, otherwise they practically chase you out of the restaurant with a pitchfork.

Perfect perfect perfect ! We would drive 40 minutes just to come here for a warm hearted meal and that make our days !

Visited a few times and I would highly recommend the Yakitori lunch set! The tempura, karaage chicken and Takoyaki are also very nice. Reasonable price and it is the best Japanese restaurant in London we have so far!

Nice restaurant with good amount of seating, decent menu with choices of starters, grill items and sushi. I ordered 3 sushi rolls and all of them tasted fresh and came with enough ginger and wasabi to compliment the meal. Each roll comes with 6 pieces and my bill came to £20.

Excellent option to try traditional Japanese cuisine. Cozy interior, a large menu, delicious food, great beer and friendly service. I guess this place qualifies as a izakaya, an informal, relaxed placed to meet after work, drink and get something to eat.

We were lucky to get the last 2 seats at the counter when we came 5 minutes after opening on a Saturday evening. We saw numerous people without bookings that were turned away. The food was very nice and there is a varied menu where we opted to try a few different types of food; sushi, tempura, gyoza and grilled skewers. The food was very fresh and we sat at the counter and could watch while the skewers were being prepared. First time here but we will come back soon again. This place is well worth a visit.

It was ok and sorry from Japanese viewpoint. Yuzu sake didn't taste any yuzu at all. the food was good, but not that top-notch or amazeballs.

Celebrated a friend’s birthday last night. Food was actually really good, service was adequate but staff felt a bit rushed.

Outstanding. I’ve been here so many times and I can’t express enough how genuine this place is. The owner and staff are wonderful and very attentive. At the time, there was a set meal, a great choice if you don’t know what you want (sashimi, tempura, yakitori, noodles and dessert). Yakitori (grilled chicken) Kamonegi (duck and spring onion) and Gyutan (ox tongue) is highly recommended. Great selection of Japanese lager. If you're looking for authentic Japanese yakitori in London, be sure to check them out.

Best Japanese restaurant in London. Everything is delicious and very good quality. The guy cooking at the grill is terrific. Of course doesn't come chip, but these are the best money 💰 spent so far. Cold sake 🍶 it's a must, so good.

Decent, quite authentic Japanese izakaya restaurant specializing in Yakitori 😋

Our third visit, we brought my son too. Interesting and wide choice of plates and robata combinations. Sashimi was very good too. Aubergine with miso and sesame is so simple but magic. Worth spending a bit and being adventurous - I have not gone wrong yet. But going large in one go upfront is recommended as adding to an order seems to cause delays when the kitchen gets busy.

Authentic Japanese, with charcoal BBQ. Great soups and skewers. BBQ'd mackerel was really lovely.

The service was low and we couldn't communicate well with the waitress.The table we were designated to was in the back corner and ut was absolutely freezing,the lightning atvthe back as welo wasn't great no atmosphere. The food was excellent, pity for everything else,good value for money.

Really authentic and tasty Japanese food!

The food is lovely and authentic though portions are far too small, like that of children’s menu! But the biggest disappointment was there was hardly any vegetarian nor vegan options, apart from one or two onigiris! Surely in this day and age, this is not acceptable. Very disappointing. If you are a vegetarian, avoid!

This place is unique. Love the food, staff are very friendly. Been there about 8 times now. Definitely will review back when the number of visits is 80. I 100% recommend.

Do not pay extra tips because the service charge does not go to the waiters! It was very busy and I am very disappointed about their treatment of the staff. :(

Bad experience. We had a reservation for six and they did not serve us food because they said they have too many orders?! We left in the next moment! I think they have no respect for their clients! Remember, we had reservation!!!

Very high quality! Almost menu taste well as Japanese quality especially Yakitori. I think this is the best quality in London.

Highly recommend the duck skewers and the salmon flake rice.

Walking past around lunch time, the aroma from the robata grill pulled us in. A good value lunch set menu and I highly recommend the teriyaki salmon. Will definitely return.
