We were regular customers at the Toran before it changed its name and live locally. We popped in early on a Friday evening to order a takeaway and despite there being no one in the restaurant at all, we were told it would be 30 mins. As we live locally, we popped home and then returned half an hour later to pick up our food. It wasn’t ready, so we waited another 15 minutes or so. No problem at this stage until we discovered that our takeaway had been given to another customer who had taken it home! The front of house staff member was completely ineffective and tried unsuccessfully to contact the other customer to bring our food back. He then ignored us for about 10 minutes while looking for yet another customers order. At this stage, we asked for our food to be recooked, to be told it would be another half an hour wait. By this time, we had had enough and we asked for a refund but were told it could only be refunded to the card that paid for it - this was now at home! Another of our party drove back out to the restaurant with the card for the refund, to arrive and be told that they had recooked our order. It was blatantly obvious that our original order had been returned and had been reheated. Eventually, we were given a refund but in cash this time, and from the wallet of the front of house member of staff as he couldn’t work the card machine. We rang another takeaway as we left the stone burner, drove to Warminster and it was ready when we arrived and cost significantly less! I am afraid that the stone burner has lost a local customer. Poor service.

Have visited this restaurant on many occasions when it was The Toran and never had an issue. It has now changed its name and management. Visited the restaurant with my family. The waiter spoke very little English and we were told to be patient with him by management. The manager then popped out to do a delivery and we were left with the waiter. We waited over 2 hrs for our mains when we were the only people bar a couple in the restaurant . The food when it eventually arrived was cold and bland. Looked like it had been warmed through several times. We hardly ate any of our food but no one asked why we had wasted so much. We then got the bill. We were astonished with the price for what was mediocre Indian food at best. We left and not even a sorry all evening. Very unprofessional. The next day a few were sick and had upset stomachs. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS. I can now see why we were the only people in there on a Friday night.

Have visited this place 3 times now. 1st time the food was stone cold, second time the service was abysmal - despite the restaurant being virtually empty I had to go to the bar area twice after waiting over half a hour just for somebody to take my order, the food eventually came and was again cold. 3rd time - went thinking it might be better given the name change / new management. Service was ok but it was a Friday night and we were the only ones eating there. The only other people in the restaurant were people coming to collect takeaway orders and the owners family who were sat in the waiting area having drinks - slightly unprofessional in my opinion. Food came out and was cold and just bland. I ordered a chicken madras - it was probably the worst one I have ever had, coupled with being cold!! My partner had a chicken korma - she ate 1/4 of it at best - when the plates were collected there was no querying with what was wrong with the food. Even the popadoms were poor and left a strange taste in the mouth. The best part was the rice which I find concerning, It’s also worth noting that the restaurant does not have an alcohol licence just in case you like a beer with your curry like I do! When the bill came I was appalled to see 2 popadoms, 2 standard curry’s, 2 pilau rice and 2 cokes had come to £53!! When I checked why the bill was so high, I noticed we had been charged an additional £3.50 for the pickles that came with our two popadoms (meaning they came to £5.50!!) and the curries were generally overpriced. I wouldn’t have minded this if the quality of the food was good (and warm!!). I’m sorry to write a bad review but I have given this place 3 chances. I will not be returning.

Toran has changed its name to Stoneburner, and it is under new management, with a new chef, and front of house. I’ve been going to Toran for years and I’ve already visited the ‘new’ restaurant about five times. The food remains excellent and from talking to the new owners the chef has years of experience. The local community that consists mainly of small villages is very lucky to have such a good Indian restaurant on our doorsteps. As with any new business they are bound to have teething problems but I’ve yet to experience any. I note that another reviewer was disappointed with the service (mentions a younger member of staff out of their depth), and lack of alcohol (no license yet). Personally, I’ve found the service to be friendly and it’s good to hear they are giving opportunities to younger people. I hope that reviewer and others give them a chance because we all had to start somewhere. I wish the new owners and staff all the best, and I look forward to eating there for many years to come.

Toran is an absolutely spending restaurant! From their costumer service, to the quality of food everything is truly amazing. It really does bring joy to any family looking for a place to dine on a night out. We were greeted by staff very kindly and presented with excellent food ,although the place is going through some changes, the true beauty of toran remains untouched. Toran really is a hidden jem everyone deserves to experience at least once in their lifetime.

We visited this place for a couple of reasons - my other half loves Indian food and I wanted to visit as I know it was an old Happy Eater and used to play on the elephant slides when I was little! The Toran is no more! It has been taken over and renamed Stonburner. As we knew that Toran was such a splendid restaurant, we thought that we would give it a try on a Friday night. I have to say that we were bitterly disappointed and walked out after twenty minutes. Our party of ten was greeted by an Indian gentleman who was rather scruffily dressed, but the serving was in the hands of a young lady who was hopelessly out of her depth, I am sorry to say. We were presented with some Popadums (without being asked) and then were asked if we would like a drink. At this point, it became clear that they had no license and therefore could not serve alcohol. Things were not going well! We had to ask for the menu, at which point we were first presented with a paper takeaway menu. A couple of minutes later, the young lady came back to our table with the old Totan menus. At this juncture, we decided that the evening was going to be fraught with difficulty and decided to leave. We asked for the bill for what we had had and they had the affrontery to present us with a charge of £7.50. No apology was forthcoming as we left, or any attempt to resolve the issues. Suffice it to say, we shall not be going back.

Ordered a takeaway for four people from here while staying near LongLeat. They don't deliver which is a great shame, and it was a few miles to get there, but it was so worth the effort. The food was amazing. We had quite a mixture, including vegetarian mains and side dishes. It was beautifully cooked, amazing flavours. There was loads of it too, so much so that we had it for brunch the next day. Fabulous. This place is on the main road and I've driven past it many times, would def stop for a meal now I know how good the food is. Yum.

Visited The Toran to celebrate the last day of holidays before my daughter starts primary school. This was selected from my perspective as recall enjoyable meals here, and from my daughters perspective because there is an elephant slide. I saw a couple of poor reviews and wobbled slightly, but we went for it anyway. On arrival, plenty of parking and a warm welcome. We were able to sit so that she could see the elephant, parking her own elephant toy and its friend to be able to watch through the window. We were offered drinks, popadoms and I queried options from a dairy free perspective to meet a dietary requirement. The chef popped out and checked out exactly what could and could not be consumed and dishes were proposed, checking out also the type of food my daughter would like. Following this we went out and enjoyed the slide, popadoms and drinks having already arrived (so no delay experienced here). A great deal of enjoyment later (and about ten min), we returned, had a lovely experience of various dips (all bar one suitable for dairy free), and our main dishes arrived. The timing was great. Between us we thoroughly enjoyed a dhansak and chicken curry, there was check ins from staff at an appropriate level. Sadly there was absolutely no space for a dessert, but we really did enjoy that which we had. Then there was just time for a last visit to the slide, which the toys got to slide down too, then home, with both of us feeling this was a wonderful evening, fabulous meal and great experience. Whilst there was only another couple in this evening, there was a number of folk collecting meals, and I think a delivery company (no idea if in house or out as wasnt paying enough attention) collected a few too, so the kitchen was busier than the restaurant appeared at face value. However, although the dining room was quiet the atmosphere was enjoyable and it did not feel 'lonely' or in any way awkward. Thank you for a superb treat.

We were visiting Warminster on a three night break and decided to book here in advance. Our table was 715 we were sat promptly and received some poppadoms. However it then took them 55 minutes to take our order and we will told that they couldn’t take it before because the kitchen was busy. There were four tables in the restaurant another couple came in while we were waiting to order they eventually gave up through the napkins down and left. The restaurant was about 1/5 full. We tried to order another round of drinks on several occasions and then gave up as nothing ever came.I have eaten in many Indian restaurants both in India and around the UK and around the world and the food quality in this restaurant was not good. Would not recommend at all.

The waiter didn’t know what Bombay potatoes are.. Took an hour for food to come out and there was only 4 tables in the restaurant. When to food finally did arrive I was handed a dirty plate and then told it was just popadoms, the food was far to sweet it was just not enjoyable the whole time we were seated not once did we get checked on so couldn’t order another drink when needed and then when I did get the attention of the waiter it took a further 15 mins to get to me. Clearly more focused of the delivery side than the costumers in there restaurant. We will not be coming again and I would recommend that people avoid this place (never a good sign when place is empty)

We're fortunately enough to consider this our "local" curry house (although from where we are its still a 20 minute drive), but the food is always worth the journey and has never once disappointed.Chefs are more than happy to tailor dishes a little to suit (lentils a little thicker than normal, tikka masala a little spicier than usual etc.) and the staff at the front door are unfailingly polite. Prices for the consistently high quality of food is entirely reasonable.A real gem of a restaurant in a quiet corner of Wiltshire and a place people will happily travel a distance to eat at.

I think the owners of Toran were a bit before their time because for years they have been producing healthier alternative to the usual Indian cuisine. I've travelled widely and eaten indian meals said to be "award winning" and "totally authentic". Usually they are very good but none stack up to the quality of Toran. I've moved away from the area now but relatives chose Toran for a big Birthday celebration recently and it was such a joy to taste their fragrant and thoughtful dishes again.

Always had good food from the Toran. The staff always remember us and accommodate our children. My favourite dish is the chicken tikka saag. The Sunday buffet is also worth a visit for trying dishes you wouldn't normally have

Our evening visit to Toran was an unplanned one. Studying the menu revealed that this is no 'ordinary' Indian restaurant. Although there are many 'old favourites' available there is an extensive selection of less often encountered dishes. We were impressed with the range of fish dishes and vegetarian dishes in particular. The dishes we chose were all delicious and were delicately flavoured rather than relying on the excess salt and oil/ghee which is so often prevalent in UK Indian restaurants. Service was perfect and the restaurant clean and comfortable. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Toran is a very quiet Indian restaurant on A36 in the middle of no where. No very busy on our visit but the food was very good but did seem a bit expensive. I would still recommend.

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to stop off on the way back from a Salisbury shopping trip. We hadn't been for quite a while, just under a year, I reckon. We were shown to our 'usual' table, didn't think much of it though, and sat, menus in hand, ready to peruse it. The waiter appeared and asked if we wanted poppadoms to start and proceeded to engage us in conversation, he commented that I had changed my hair, I was dumbstruck....how lovely....he had remembered us. We ordered, I always have lamb, mostly Achari Gosht, a very tasty dish I must add, but decided on Lamb Rogan, the waiter remembered that too, I was impressed, with him and the food! Try this restaurant, it may not be packed but don't let that detract from how good I'd forgotten it was.

Top notch! The food is excellent and we left very satisfied. We passed a local who mentioned he always takes food from here as well. Service very friendly and efficient. Taste - just the right amount of spice. We would gladly come back and taste the rest of the menu.

We visited Toran because we were staying overnight in Warminster and I'm an avid reader and reviewer of Tripadvisor and all the reviews we'd read were very positive. The appearance of the restaurant is a little out of the ordinary, with its position on the A36, the neon lights and the outside children's play area. It looked more Happy eater/service station stopover than serious restaurant.Don't let appearances deceive you, Toran is serving excellent, healthy and authentic Indian food. Many years ago I visited the Indian YMCA in London that opens it's doors to the public and is very popular with people of all races, including Indians because of the quality of the food and its authenticity. I believe its still open to this day.Toran is on a par with that. If you love Indian food and happen to be in this area of Wiltshire give it a go...Excellent!

My adult daughters and I are on vacation from the USA and we're driving back from our day in Bath. We were hungry and were looking for some place "just off the road to eat". We weren't expecting anything grand, just needed to eat something. Oh my what a wonder find! Wonderful Indian food and friendly service. What started out as "just a place to stop" turned into a highlight of the day. Don't miss this place!

We drove past the restaurant initially and were unsure about returning. After a drink in a local pub we decided to go back and were certainly very pleased we did. The service was excellent, attentive but never intrusive. The menu was extensive and the sweet and sour lamb dish with apricots was wonderful. Certainly something I'd never seen offered in an Indian restaurant before. Do not be put off by the roadside position, pull in and have a great meal.

This Indian restaurant is not new to me, and I have no connection with the Toran in any way except as a customer.I have been eating in or buying take-always here for a few years now, but the restaurant just goes from strength to strength. It differs from any other I know in West Wiltshire. There is no restaurant taste here, every Toran House Speciality dish has a different flavour from the next one, whatever you order. It is really a good idea to ask the staff about the various dishes, and you will receive excellent advice from them.I recently arranged with the management a few days in advance to prepare a meal for 5, suitable for me and my daughter's family which included children under 8 years old. The manager recommended a starter of various items, some of which were standard menu items and some especially prepared for us. They included vegetarian and meat dishes with a specially prepared salad to compliment them. Everything had such fresh flavours and was light enough to increase our hunger! For the mains he recommended an (especially made for us) Bangladeshi Chicken Korma which would be suitable for the children and anyone else who would like to try it! This was nothing like the normal tasteless, sweet, creamy (British!) Korma you normally get. This was tending to a medium heat, softened by a small amount of milk, but the spicing a revelation. Clear herbal tastes were present, though nothing like European cooking. We loved it, as well as the other dishes that accompanied it.I believe that the restaurant will try to accommodate any customers wishes provided they are given a few days to organise it. Our experience was a top class meal, food that was different and perhaps nearer to what you would get in the Indian sub-continent. In any case, a wonderful and mouth-watering experience. The cost, just the normal amount I would pay at this restaurant for standard house specialities.By the way, NO excess fat here. It really is the Healthier Choice they claim and have won prizes for!Well done, Toran.

We came across this restaurant when visiting the area. We were very pleasantly surprised how good the food was. I had chicken passanda which was very tasty and had a very generous amount of chicken. My husband had Rajasthani lamb which he enjoyed but would have liked it a bit hotter. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We have used the Toran on a regular basis for over six years. There is always a warm welcome. The staff always take the time to explain their dishes and get to know your tastes and limitations. it is the first restaurant we can leave them to choose our meal when we cannot decide. We have never had a bad meal and would highly recommend it. Being vegetarian myself it is a pleasure to be offered such a wide range of dishes. Very often I am lucky if I have a choice of two dishes. The menu is also changed on a regular basis so there is no chance of getting bored of the choices available

Toran Indian cuisne has given Toran (honorific gateway) a whole new meaning. This horrific gateway will enlighten you to world poor tasteless food along with a large dollop of bad service. Seriously the worst Indian food I’ve had "and I’ve been to some pretty bad places". I ended up having one spoon of their microwaved cuisine and didn’t touch it again. After asking for the bill, the waiter simply popped the full plates of grub on his squeaky trolly and wheeled it away without saying another word. ‘I’m guessing its normal for all customers to leave full dishes and expecting the customer to happily cough up the bill’ God knows what happened to my full dishes, my guess is, its bagged, frozen and now awaiting its turn for a blast in the microwave for the next poor unsuspecting customer. " Not a bad business model" . hmm...

I dont know where to start... How can an Indian food be so awful...We started with burned and dried papadoms with Coke that had no Fizz (God knows how long it was opened for).Followed by 2 dishes for main course - Chicken Jelfrazi and Chicken Nega...It was canned microwave tomatos with onions and some chicken in it ... didn't have any taste...On top of the "exceptional" food the staff where so rude as well... Although the restaurant was empty we had to wait 20 min to get the bill and pay for it...I would avoid this restaurant at all cost and pop in to Macdonalds ....

It’s the first time for years that I’ve been for a meal at The Agra. It was always good previously but I was blown away by the experience tonight. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and the decor had been updated and was elegant. The food was absolutely delicious. I had sweet chilli chicken with rice which was wonderful. I was in a group of 4 adults and a child and we all chose a different main course after sharing a selection of starters. Each dish was amazing and only my grandson could manage a dessert. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will look forward to going back.

I asked for a Veg Tali which is a traditional wholesome meal in India. I had six chapatis, Curd and pickled lime. Takka Dal, Mixed Veg, plain white rice and Lamb Madras. There were green chilies in every box yet I didn't find it too hot. I am so impressed with the food and flavours I will continue to order this on the regular. This gets me two massive meals for delivery. I paid £32. We are so blessed to have such fine cuisine. Thankyou to the staff! Complements to the Chef!
