Tonkotsu is a great place to go and eat, I have been there many times before, casually and eating full on ramen. I have been there alot throughout the years, which is why I keep on returning. I originally came because my brother took me here for my birthday treat, which is why I love their ramen and keep coming back. As I have said, I have been many times, so I have alot of experience here, which generally is good; I sit down, they greet me, I get my food, then pay, then part ways. The thing I love about Tonkotsu is that they remember me and ask about my day and such (I do go there alot) I feel safe there and can happily eat (or slurp) on my noodles. The service is good, I don't have to wait long to order and recieve my food. During busy hours, and weekends, they are busier, so I tend to avoid these times. There was one time when I came for my birthday (I was told I could redeem free ramen, but wasn't sure if it was like the main one as the one in Birmingham is like different) so I sit down like I normally do, but then told to move to another place. I brush this of as "they are just arranging us because its very busy" but as I was sitting down, he would then try and take my order, even though I was clearly sitting down, the rushed experienced really made me feel anxious, which then I left and took my business elsewhere (I didn't as I just went home) Overall, the food and staff are loveable, and thats why I come back. The odd one or two bad experience can probably be justified with it being busy, so they are doing what they can to facilitate for lots of people, but being told to order just as im getting my jacket off and sitting down on what I want before looking at the menu was something that made me uncomfortable

Visited for the first time since Covid-19 restrictions. Had my usual Prawn Gyoza as a starter. I am not vegan but tried the special ramen which was the Vegan Chilli Tofu Ramen. What can I say?! It was absolutely delicious! very generous serving too so definitely was value for money! A must try! Added the chilli oil into it as well. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because sadly the service isn't up to par. No one checked to see if we were ok mid-meal. Have never had service with a smile and the same waitress has been there for many years with the same bad attitude. I did think it was rather cheeky to add 10% service change onto my bill without asking if I'd like for it to be added. That being said, I return for the food but sadly not the service.

Whenever we go to Birmingham our first stop is tonkotsu, always. Love the food but service is always poor, as a waitress myself in a super busy and expensive restaurant , I tend to brush it off and just enjoy my food with my family. This time it was different though, waited about 10 minutes to be sat down, it was 2 adults and a sleeping toddler in his pushchair. Both staff members looked at us, ignored us for a good 8-9 minutes and then sat us down in a place where we won’t “disturb” other guests, fine whatever. Baring in mind, I think there were less than 10 people sat down and plenty of space for other guests so it wasn’t busy. We always take a look at the menu, a few moments went by and we were ready. Looked up to see new guests sat down, after a few minutes they were served before us, then another person sat down and the lady seemed to know her and straight away take her order too, we’ve been sat down for about 15 minutes now with no order taken, one of the newer guests got their food, that’s when we stood up and left. Kitchen members were looking at us too and also I believe noticed we were sat down for a long time. 10 minutes of standing and 20 minutes of sitting down, and still no sign of anyone wanting to serve us. If our toddler was awake he would’ve been screaming the place down by then. Such a shame as we love the food but team members really need to step up their service, especially with families that come for food. Children will not sit down for 30 minutes without food, and should be prioritised before adults. Always paid service charge and left more as a tip, if we go there again, I will make sure to just pay for food and drinks. Absolutely appalling service.

We ordered Tonkotsu Ramen. It is our second time around, Last time was pre covid. The broth is delicious though it was not served 'hot' enough. I am not a Chashu expert but their pork taste old and not fresh. And as far as I remember they didn't have beansprout as toppings before but it seems that most ramens now have beansprout added maybe ?part of cost cutting for their noodles. Overall It was still a good meal.

Always used to visit for lunch when coming to Birmingham on our shopping trips and always had the prawn and chicken katsu curry’s. We noticed it’s now chicken/(prawn) & Courgette which we through was odd but presumed they’d possibly added to it , however there’s now less of the meat/fish portion and now bulked out with deep fried courgette which both of us dislike so , feel short changed what with a price increase too. Probably won’t return now as better standard and price at wagamama.

🍜 Food - 5/5 - ordered Tonkotsu ramen, chicken and courgette katsu, pork gyoza and chicken wings. Food was incredible - hot, flavoursome and generous portions. My partner had the ramen and said it’s one of the best bowls of ramen he’s had 🧽Cleanliness - 5/5 - tables and cutlery were all clean. Can see into the immaculate kitchen where the food is cooked and prepared and everything looked very clean 😊Service - 5/5 - everyone we came into contact with was very friendly Other ⭐️Could have done with hand wipes as the chicken wings were messy, but made do with napkins and hand sanitiser. ⭐️Went at lunchtime on a Thursday during school holidays. Plenty of seats available. ⭐️Approx £20 per head with main, side and drink

Tucked in the bustling Selfridges and Co, this restaurant did not disappoint! We ordered prawn gyozas and one bowl of chilli chicken ramen after seeing the portion sizes of other people. One bowl is pretty much enough for two people as you are served quite a lot! The gyozas were nicely cooked and tasted awesome and the ramen was also cooked really well, it was spicy enough to satisfy the ramen craving we had but did not make us down water constantly, the food was very filling and I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you want a quick place to eat; the icing on the cake is that you do not have to book this place in advance which offers a lot of flexibility however you do have to wait in the line until you are offered a seat, depending on the time and popularity, this may be a while, however the turnaround time is quite fast. Being inside a Selfridges, the price is ok, it felt slightly expensive for what it was however given the quality of food and portion size, it was justifiable. The seating reminds me of the ramen bars in Tokyo and the staff were friendly too!

I tend to visit here when I have a craving for their mushroom ramen. You’re given a huge portion (I can never finish it) to tuck into. It always taste so fresh and vibrant. The only reason for the 4 stars is that as a pescatarian, I would have preferred a ramen dish with prawns, this would make it 5 stars for me. :-)

Appalling attitude from one of the staff this evening. 'Soy sauce sachet isn't free, we are giving only because we want to give' was exactly what I was told! As an Asian who know sushi culture more than that particular non-asian staff, please note that soy sauce and wasabi are part of a sushi meal. If getting some soy sauce would be so tricky I suggest Yo Sushi stop serving sushi altogether. If the area manager is looking at this, please check and educate your staff.
