Tabu Bar & Restaurant in Birmingham

AVOID - had a booking for a friends 40th which we paid £70 deposit. They even called up the week before to check if still wanted booking. We arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night and it was all shut. Called number and chased our deposit numerous times and had no response. Turns out they closed in July due to a fire and must have been chancing it with our deposit. Shocking customer service!

Very poor service & handling given them a weeks grace hoping for a response and refund but still nothing, we were not the only ones waiting at the venue others were too AVOID AT ALL COST!!!

Terrible, thieving restaurant. Dined at this establishment for my friends birthday on 13th July. I went up to the bar to buy a bottle of tequila rose for the table. I left the bar expecting the bottle to be brought to the table. When they came over I was told that my card has declined, so I sent the money to a friend who then purchased the bottle. The charge then popped up as a notification from my banking app and appeared as pending in app. I spoke to a manager who told me that I wouldn’t be charged and this was an error, however if it came out of my bank to send a dm for a refund. Low and behold it was taken out. Well nearly a month later and numerous messages backwards and forwards AND a false promise of a refund in 1-5 working days (this was on the 24th July) there is still no refund! Not only that but they have not responded to any of my messages since the 24th, not even bothered to open them and it’s impossible to get through to them on the phone. So, if you’re reading this- I would like my £75 back please.

Booked a table and the restaurant was closed when we got there. The door was locked and no one answered when we called. Absolutely ridiculous to run a business like this.

Amazing experience for my 1 year anniversary, Stefan was the best server me and my mrs have had since we’ve been together. He had recommended 4 of the most amazing cocktails i have had. Food was lovely and the Dragonroll has turned me opinion on sushi’s.

Came for my 1 year anniversary and was blown away by the amazing top notch customer service!! Stefan served us and we couldn’t have asked for a better host, from the great recommendations to the fantastic service all around we definitely will be coming here again as we had a lovely time! :)

Absolutely amazing time spent at Tabu for my birthday meal. All the staff are welcoming and warm, we had the pleasure of being served by the beautiful Tai who is an assessment to the establishment. Awful noisy venue! Why the hell does a restaurant need a DJ, with a microphone to boot, too help customers eat?!?!? The staff had no control over customers who were being loud, leary, racist, homophobic and generally being obnoxious to the point where other patrons were feeling offended and uncomfortable. Would not recommend this venue to anyone!

Awful experience, the staff were ridiculously rude and forgot how to smile to our whole party which was meant to be a special occasion. Out of stock of numerous dishes considering the menu is so small is appalling and there excuse is ‘it’s a Sunday’. We waited 45 minutes just for a drink which is meant to be so called table service. Messed up our order when it arrived. Had to ask 3 times where our side dishes were which in the end we cancelled as we finished all our food before they came. Asked for a birthday cake and candle for a celebration and they too it too the wrong table. Overall TERRIBLE experience. Do not recommend

Food tasted like frozen food that had been cooked. Prices are like Ivy Asia but no where near the quality. Very disappointed and I don’t leave reviews very often!

Look no further! It is a very lovely place to visit and enjoy a memorable time with your loved ones. The ambience is amazing, and there are a few open cubicles/ rooms that can be used for events like birthdays with friends or a nice get-together.

First visit when Tabu recently opened was incredible! Service was great, food was delicious and the team members could not do anything more to make our visit better. Fast forward a year and the service was the worst I have ever had! It took 1 hour 50 minutes for the food to arrive! Complained multiple times to the manager and was offered a free bottle of wine, which then took 25 minutes to arrive. When we finally came to settle the bill, the ‘free’ wine was included and a service charge, which I swiftly requested to have removed. A further 10 minutes later the revises bill appeared. The lack of management seriously let the venue down that evening and it has prevented us going back ever since! If you want to go, I would advise going very early and on a quiet evening.

Went for a friends birthday, it was an enjoyable night. The food was nice and there was plenty of in house entertainment.

We were in a nice place in the restaurant but the service was terrible the food came before the drinks we ordered then second round of drinks took ages to come the food was okay but not worth the price tag, it was freezing and we all had jackets and still added a 10% service charge despite the waiters acting as if they didn’t care if we were there or not, had to search for someone for the bill and then again to pay, wouldn’t return

I attended tabu last night for a birthday party, the place was stunning, the booth was comfortable, food was delicious and the vibes/music was great. All staff was very smart and we had a lovely bday surprise when the fabulous dancers/entertainment came out. Special drink service for the bday boy was great, we all said we enjoyed our night and would definitely recommend. Thank you tabu for a great spot in bham.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Manos in a warm an inviting manner. The soft lighting and soothing ambiance set the stage for a romantic evening. ;) What made Tabu even more special was its dedication to halal cuisine, a rarity in our upscale dining scene. As a Muslim couple, this was greatly appreciated. The menu offered a delightful range of dishes, each expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. From perfectly grilled meats to delicate seafood options, every bite was a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. One standout dish was the Beef Kushiyaki, a flavorful delight that left us craving more. Paired with excellent non alcoholic drink selections recommended by Manos. The service was impeccable, with Manos attending to our every need with a smile. His knowledge of the menu made our dining experience even more enjoyable. As we savored our dessert, a heavenly salted caramel cheesecake, we couldn't help but appreciate the wonderful evening we had shared. It was a lovely venue. Went for R'n'B Brunch for a friend birthday. DJ was ok. I didn't have any food, To be honest I thought food was included in the Brunch, unfortunately it wasn't. All the staff was attentive in doing there job. Defo would recommend Tabu Bar & Restaurant. We had a booth which was nice also free rum punch for hour which was included in the price. All and all great 5hours out.

If you want to go out to order each drink 4 times, wait 30 minutes for each one and then be told the only mixer you can have is lemonade you will love this place! If not I wouldn’t bother 🤣

Me and my friends decided to book a booth here for my birthday. We’ve seen it all over Instagram and were very excited to try this place! We arrived and we’re seated in our booth which comes with a (£500 minimum spend) We were told straight away we only had the booth till 9:30 which made us feel quite rushed before we had even ordered food or drinks. We were then told after 2 bottles of whispering angel that they had no whispering angel left! Baring in mind this is pretty much all my and my friends drink and the next alternative was a bottle for £125! We ordered food which came nicely presented and was lovely. We then tried to order shots which took over 30 mins to come which we had to ask for twice and then when my friend tried to order vodka lemonade and lime cordial we were told they had none and the only mixer they had was lemonade! They then brought over a slice of cake with a birthday candle which was a nice touch but I later found out we was charged £9 for it without even asking us! Overrall, it was a very disappointing night. Tabu looks really lively and fancy online but the service we received was not at the standard you expect for a £500 minimum spend. The atmosphere is also not what is appears to be online your shoved into a booth and kind of forgotten about. I would however like to mention a waitress called Lanny, she was lovely and did her best to accommodate me and my friends! Unfortunately I am not sure if my friends would wish to return again.

Came here for a birthday party on a Saturday night, this place has no draught beer and the staff said they haven't had any for two months now so only beer options are £6-7 bottles of beer.

Couldn't have asked for a better venue to host my birthday weekend!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Tabu, the experience was quite refreshing compared to the usual places that I visit on Saturday nights thanks to the hospitable Asian girl part of the bar staff team. From the moment I walked in I was greeting and welcomed into the environment and impressed by the efficiency and professionalism provided complemented by the surrounding environment which was more or less the icing on the cake 10/10, my girlfriend was also quite impressed.

No draught beer. Put red wine in an ice bucket!!! Bar staff appalling. Ladies toilets atrocious. No locks on doors and toilet seats missing. I really do not understand how this place survives.

Food was divine and the vibe was great. Love the decore . Their signature Katsu bites is a must try . Worth a check out if you not been yet

Wow. This restaurant is just divine. Me and my fiancé went for a late night dinner and drinks and let me say, we were not disappointed. From the exceptional service to the delicious, flavour bursting food I was very impressed. We ordered multiple dishes which is what we’d recommend so you can have a bit of everything. I lovedddd the beef kushyaki, it was full of flavour, juicy and tender. My fiancé isn’t a fan of sushi normally, but he was very impressed with the dragon and California roll.The restaurant is quite unique from the others and it was refreshing to dine somewhere else rather than your bog standard date night restaurant. Needless to say we will be returning very soon.

Additionally, the crispy squid was a delightful surprise - perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The atmosphere at Tabu was another highlight of the evening. The ambiance was inviting, with just the right amount of buzz to create a lively yet intimate dining environment. Would definitely recommend.

Love this place! Food was exceptional, staff are friendly and really make the effort to speak and make you feel valued too which is always lovely. Food is halal which is hard to find in these kind of swanky restaurants. Decor and whole vibe was amazing I have been a few times and it has never disappointed.

Came here last weekend and all I can say is that the vibes in this place are immaculate. I had a warm welcome from the manager and the floor staff. The food was exquisite especially the california roll and the chicken bao buns had to be my favourite. When the drinks came it looks very pretty and it tasted good had to order a couple more. Overall i had a great a experience I will definitely coming back here.

I felt so welcomed at tabu, the waitress and bar staff were so bubbly and polite.the food was filling and true to description, the cocktails were full of flavour. The best part for me was the music that played while I was there and the entertainment! The dancers were absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be a regular customer for a night out😆

My Asian girlfriend and I went to Tabu on Friday night at 9:20pm. Walking in the doorman was smart, polite and welcoming. On going down the stairs and entering the tunnelled and alcove section I was asked if I had booked. I had not booked and was there just for a drink. I went to the bar - and was asked had I booked, I said no. And we ordered a drink. I asked if I could sit anywhere and was told yes. Time 9:30pm On sitting down at a table an abrupt young man asked me if I had booked, I said no. I was told I had to leave this table by 10pm. Twice between sitting down and 9:50pm I was told by 2 people I had to move. On the way into the main room I had took photos of the decor, alcoves and tunnel. Another abrupt young man came over and asked to see my photos on my phone and I was told to delete any photos with people in them. And again reminded that I was to move from this seat before 10pm. The time was 9:40pm. I had payed £15 for an archers and lemonade and a rum and coke. I was made to feel that I was not welcome and that at mid 50s I was not cool enough to be there. I am smart and English, my gf is Asian and lovely - we both felt that we should not be there and the venue was for a young and pretentious crowd. Sorry …. I was a regular at the Vaults many years ago. I will not be rushing back.

Visited Tabu as part of the R and B Brunch and was pleased to experience a really plush decor. The place has plenty of character and all staff were really professional and pleasant. The food was nice and the music and crowd added to the ambience too.

Was my first visit after my daughter had been twice. I was not disappointed. The customer service, timing and food were all exceptional. Sunny I believe the owner came over to say hi and made the effort to make us feel welcome. And when he knew it was my birthday him and his team ensured they gave me cake on the house. The staff were always smiling and service was prompt and with lovely atmosphere. I would strongly recommend this place and will definitely be goi g back soon

I got taken here by surprise by my girlfriend and honestly this place was 10/10. the vibe of the place really made the whole place feel classy, and the waiter Khyron was amazing and displayed percent customer service followed by Sam behind the bar making the best cocktails in birmingham for sure 10/10 would recommend👏🏾

Waited almost 2 hours to get our food, and when the food came it was cold. The food was nice but they really need to improve on their service and communication. Aaron (restaurant manager was apologetic and soothed the situation.) However, for the amount of money we spent, it was not a good night at all.

We came for a friends 21st birthday and we’re really excited to try a new place and we left so disappointed. We turned up and had booked a table only to be told they couldn’t find our booking, after standing for 10 minutes back and forth trying to sort it we finally got seated. We booked a private booth as it was for a celebration and were honestly forgotten about. After 20 minutes I had to walk round the restaurant trying to find any member of staff to take a drinks order for us and the drinks then took another 20 minutes to come out. We then had to do the same for our food searching to find a member of staff to take our order. The food was the only thing that didn’t stop us walking out and compliments to the chef as it was amazing. The toilets were also freezing with cold running water which just didn’t add to any atmosphere at all. Definitely won’t be running back, just disappointed by the lack of customer service as the venue is lovely and the food was amazing.

Best Atmosphere, very friendly patient staff. The entertainment is burlesque like, with some fire dancing which was really impressive. This is perfect for large group sizes because of the large table spaces and overall chilled yet thrilling atmosphere.

Firstly I would like to add that the food was exceptional. After having to remind the staff that we pre-ordered and wanted to eat, an hour's wait felt worth it with the amazing food served. However I cannot say the same for the rest of the experience that me and my friends had. On numerous occasions I had to ask staff for drinks orders. At which it took an hour for the first one to come. After then another 30 minutes we were told that 2 of the girls bottle of wine wasnt available which again was frustrating considering it took them 1 hour 30 minutes to notice this. Having been allocated a booth I thought that we would have some form of table service, for example staff coming over and asking if we wanted any more drinks. Unfortunately not, so only having 1 drink each I decided to order at the bar. This again was not a great experience. 15 minutes I was waiting at the bar and at no point did someone tell me they would with me shortly or apologise for not being able to serve promptly. In the end myself and the girls decided that the lack of customer service and care we wanted to leave. After having to remind staff twice for the bill and explaining the situation the service charge was taken off and we were offered a shot as an apology. I can honestly say I have never been so disappointed. It was our works Chrismas party and we left deflated, sober and ready to go home. I wouldn't be back anytime soon that is for sure and I really hope this feedback is taken and action can be made so that other customers can have a much better and enjoyable experience than myself and my work colleagues endured.

This place was such a let down. Me and my friends came here for birthday meal/drinks and honestly I’ve never known service so bad. We were really excited as it’s visually stunning and looks like such a good time but we left disappointed. When we arrived it felt like the staff just didn’t care or couldn’t be arsed to serve us. When we finally did get served we specified we wanted a certain bottle. The most expensive bottle on the menu turned up and I think the staff were hoping we didn’t notice. We preordered our food because we were a larger party, and I understand that groups are harder to provide for but we waited nearly 2 hours for our food. It was ridiculous. I was hoping for so much more from this place, if only they realized that customer service goes a long way. Our bill came to nearly £400, if our group had of enjoyed it, and the service hadn’t of been terrible, we may have booked several subsequent birthday nights out here. Meaning more money for them. It’s such a shame because as I say this places looks like the new place to go in Birmingham and could do well, but they’re never going to get people back if they carry on this way.

Place is lovely, staff are lovely but the food is mediocre and prices extortionate for the food provided. Sushi was no better than what you would buy in a supermarket, Katsu chicken was like any chicken nugget you can buy with a pot of sauce. Vegetable spring rolls were tasteless unless you dipped them in the sauce, (although my daughter loved them),and the vegetable noodles were just plain noodles with a couple of leaves thrown on top. Vegetable gyozas were lovely as were the prawns gyozas. Also enjoyed the scallops and the duck salad, these were worth the price paid. Would we go again? Probably not as we have had better food closer to home for less money. We all left the restaurant feeling hungry after a bill of nearly £200.

Nice place to go, service was absolutely appalling. Bratty little teenagers running the show thinking they can disrespect customers like that. Food was nice but very overpriced for what it was. In a quick summary unbelievably unprofessional.

This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to, no-one here can do simple maths. Food is always cold, the duck tastes like chicken and is dry, it's so bad. If you want to ruin your day go here for food it's complete and utter trash save your money. Filthy horrible restaurant which is a shock because birmingham usually has decent food places I guess not today.DONT GO HERE PLEASE

Terrible experience at tabu. Firstly the food was overpriced for the level of quality that we received. Secondly the service was not good, the staff were rude and rather quick to rush us out of the restaurant. Members of staff asking us the same questions over and over again really tried our patience at one point. I will not be returning and do not recommend this restaurant.

Have been for dinner previously and also had my hen dinner there in one of the private booths. Great service even when with a large party and food and cocktails are excellent.

This place is absolutely incredible, really good vibe, it seems they care so much about making your night / day special and rememberable! The food leaves your mouth watering in awe, great staff, great venue cannot fault them really happy with my visit, deffo bucket list this

Food was incredible, albeit small portions for the price, and drinks are very expensive. Catered very well for the vegan and coeliac members of the party. However the atmosphere is just odd, the music is ridiculously loud, cannot hear the person next to you for conversation, which meant the staff struggled to hear your orders and vice versa, it was a mess. They then tried to push us out the booth an hour early, despite having pre booked in advance the table from 7:30-10. This very much ruined the experience for the whole party and we were glad to leave. Wouldn't return. Seems like a restaurant only made for large groups of girls to take pics for Instagram, not actually a restaurant.

Had date night here with my Mrs amazing food the special chilli sauce from the chef red was amazing. Victoria served us the food very efficiently amazing. Sam surprised me with a very tasty mocktail my Mrs loved it too , highly recommended I will be coming back. Came from London as it’s an all halal pan Asian. Worth the drive

Second visit, and it didn't disappoint! The staff and their customer service are great. The food is excellent, tasty, and well presented. Decor is slick, clean, and well maintained. A shout out to their Manager Manos, who takes their customer service to another level 👌

Booked a table for 8 people at 6 pm on Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. We arrive 5 minutes early only to find the doors shut. 15 mins passed, and then someone finally came out to update us on what was happening. Apparently, they were running late as that had a brunch event on during the day. We continued to stand outside awkwardly for around another 15 minutes before we were finally let inside. Once we finally were told we could enter, we again had to stand around, waiting awkwardly for another 5 minutes before being shown to our table. We were then led to our booth and given a free glass of champagne to appogise for the disorganisation . There was zero vibe or music when we sat down, and it was far from an ideal start to a birthday meal. We then ordered some drinks which took 30 mins to arrive (even bottled beers!), which was pretty shocking considering there were only 3 tables seated in the whole restaurant at this time. No draught beers available so had to order £6 small bottle of asahi. One positive... the cocktails were good once they finally arrived. Being a group of 8, we had to pre-order our food, which wasn't a problem. Unfortunately, when it arrived we had to send the beef skewers back due to not being able to chew or even cut the meat with a knife! The gyozas were pretty much tasteless (chicken and prawn), and everything else was just 'OK'. Ordered an additional portion of egg fried rice which arrived after we had all finished our food, so this was sent back. At this point, we just wanted to get out of the place and try and salvage the rest of our night. Took about 20 mins for the bill to arrive and when it did we found it laughable that a 10% service charge was added after that catastrophe! Such a shame as this place could be so much better if they put as much energy into their service levels as they do in their social media. At the moment, it's very much style over substance.
