It was just OK. Not mega exciting and the food was basic. I ordered chicken rice and a veg bowl. A decent sized bowl that was 80% rice, 10 small strands of chicken, some veg. It's not worth the money and could easily cook at home. The picture makes the food look pleasant. This type of food is simple and can be cooked at home for less than £2. Bought a wok and will experiment.

Great food and a large choice but was surprised they didn't do bao buns.But all in all we had had a good time will go back when I'm in the area again

Exploring Birmingham for a dining gem, we stumbled upon Ten Ichi. Intrigued by our love for Japanese culture and cuisine, we found ourselves in for an unexpectedly bland dining experience. Upon the ingress to the restaurant, we were enchanted by the decor, appreciating the traditional Japanese theme. The service was prompt, and our order was set in motion, anticipating a meal that would hopefully appease our appetites. Unbeknownst to us, it would turn out to be regrettable. The food arrived promptly, and we eagerly began our meal. Initial impressions revealed a notable lack of flavor and taste. The sushi seemed somewhat firm, leading us to speculate that it might have been frozen. The noodle bowl didn't perform any better, leaving our taste buds longing for an extra burst of flavour. Opting out of dessert to spare our taste buds from further disappointment, we settled the bill and swiftly departed the establishment, a palpable sense of disillusionment in our eyes. After scrutinising the restaurant's hygiene rating, our disappointment deepened as it revealed a mere two stars, solidifying our decision not to return. It seems fortunate that our night didn't end with an unpleasant bout on the bathroom floor. We do not endorse Ten Ichi. Seek alternatives elsewhere.

Nice, quiet place, good food for a reasonable price

The food was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of options to choose from for individuals or sharing I loved it there, couldn't rate it higher due to my own comparison with other sushi restaurants. But it’s worth your time and money 😉😉😉

This was OK food, it would have been very nice at half or even two thirds the cost, but massively overpriced. Would have been a three star review, but you lose an extra star for adding service charge to a table for one. Tips are optional, not a standard charge, automatic service charges should be reserved for large group bookings.

I've been here a couple of times and have been very happy with the food and portion sizes. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, which is how a sushi place should be. The service is quite efficient too. For sushi enthusiasts, there could be a little more choice in platter sizes and drink prices are quiet steep - these are my only criticisms though.

In Chinatown, next to Las Iguanas. Staff were very friendly and quick, when we went in it was lunchtime on a Saturday, not that busy. There is upstairs seating too (not accessible for wheelchair users), which is also where the toilets are. Decor is quite nice, and there is a little fountain inside too. Food came quickly and hot. I would say there's not a lot of vegetarian food options but if you are a sushi lover, there is quite a lot of sushi. I had the prawn tempura ramen, which was a good sized portion. Prices are reasonable, not too expensive.

Terrible, terrible, terrible!!!! Save yourself the hassle and just go elsewhere. Service is poor, food isn't much better. Tasteless ramen, super noodles pack more punch and cheeky service charge added in. If I felt your service was worthy I would happy put my hand in my pocket and tip, don't force me too on the assumption it is warranted.

We have been a few times now with the 1stv being really good but subsequent 3 visits quite poor. Reasonable service, but food not great. Ramen sent back as wasn't nice and then the bill was immediately dumped in the middle of the table while other people were still eating.. nothing says get out more than this

What a lovely find! I originally planned on visiting somewhere else, but they didn't cater for food allergies. So I stumbled across Ten Ichi. The staff are excellent. Really attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant. The sushi is amazing! I could have eaten several of the hand roll. The sushi I had wasn't actually on the menu, they created it for me which was greatly appreciated. I had some plum wine which was lovely! The atmosphere was very chilled, I took my time over a lovely lunch. I also really appreciated the hand sanitiser on every table. Excellent place, I will definitely be back.

Taste close to real Japanese food.

Walked in to be seated immediately by friendly staff. A large number of comfortable seats. The atmosphere is quite soothing on top of the calming music, providing a nice casual dining experience. The food is worth its value: ordered the bento box with chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki, I'd say it's quite a filling and well-rounded meal.

We have been quite a few times due to a lack of competition around the area but always come out thinking "it was ok, perhaps try again months later". The food looks good but not very fresh. The service was friendly but kept forgetting to bring things - half the table had their drinks, other half didn't until food was served. We ate almost everything before the main sashimi boat came out right at the end. Service charge is quite steep.

Loved the freshly prepared sushi and sashimi boat. One of my favourite is the seaweed salad. This is the third time I went there and each time been happy with the food. On the sidenote the piano classical music needs improvement to lighten the atmosphere.

First and foremost, the price is incredibly reasonable. For just £10 per meal, we enjoyed a delicious feast. We both ordered dishes with crispy meat and katsu sauce, and they were absolutely mouthwatering. My girlfriend's crispy chicken with rice and katsu sauce was flavorful and cooked to perfection, and my crispy pork with rice and katsu sauce was equally delightful. The service was impeccable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and ensured that we had a memorable dining experience. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better Japanese food outing. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food at an affordable price. We'll definitely be back!

Loved the ambience and food but they served dry ice with a dish and my boyfriend gulped it, just the water, not the ice ( thank god). When we asked the waitress that this happened, will be be okay? She started belly laughing, fun lady :))

I think I found the sushi I love after so many attempts at so many different sushi restaurants in Birmingham or nearby. This is the best out of all. Sushi fresh, taste great Property deco aswel ,very nice , very clean Staffs were nice Definitely coming back 👍

Great sushi, didn't exactly know what I was eating because it was so elaborately decorated but it tasted yummy! All of the dishes were large, we probably over ordered! But definitely worth trying for some new sushi ideas. The coconut water was also very nice! The sushi arrived one by one, so it was all extremely fresh and we could enjoy each dish fully. The spicy sushi was particularly good. A great place to stay away from the surrounding hustle and bustle for a while.

Terrible food and service. The waitress seemed unhappy and brought the vibe to me. Ridiculous.

Had the bento box it was nice but I've had beto boxes else where that are better for less. Waitresses were very cute and attentive.

The good? The waitress was lovely! Nice and clean table 👌 the food wasn't bad, it's far better than alot of the food in Chinatown! However in terms of Japanese restaurants in the area? This is lagging behind them ALL! However If you want to try all the Japanese eateries in town its still worth coming, The miso soup was glorious!

When we walked into the restaurant, 1st thoughts were "okay this is quite nice inside".. and then downhill then. When the food arrived... There was a hair on top to garnish it off. Then when we finished a different dish, the bowl was all cracked at the bottom. Safe to say we won't be coming back. Will just keep going to ASIA ASIA. ASIA ASIA is definitely 1 of the best places to eat Asian food in Birmingham.

Yakotori, Udon beef ramen, Chicken Gyoza and Chicken noodles. All were excellent.

I stumbled across this place by accident with a friend last year. The staff are so friendly, it's a very reasonable price and all the food tastes like it was made with love. Today is my fourth visit!

Really nice food and seemed better priced than a lot of the Japanese competitors nearby. We went on a Sunday so it wasn't very busy but we had an 11 year old and a newborn so we were worried on if we would be welcomed. Music was a little too surrene for my tastes but the food more than made up for it. Would go again

It's changed... a little, but not for the better... Food still tastes great and prices are low but service has slightly deteriorated. The best example is they seem to run out of squid every time i want one. A group of 5 of us popped in for a meal and they only had 2 squid! Also, they're refusing to take reservations! Finally, the hotplates under the squid weren't hot....

We really enjoyed the atmosphere in such a beautiful and chill restaurant. I was surprised by how affordable the restaurant is as its really chic with great architecture. The waiters was nice , attentative and with a great smile. I had a huge bowl of ramen with beef for only 9.95, egg fried rice and a bear called Tiger ! for few GBP. Great experience and Great food however my egg fried rice was lacking some taste. I will definitely come back as I'd love Asian cultures.

If I would have read previous reviews, I wouldn’t have visited. However, the food and drink were all amazing. We all loved everything about it, and it was such good value. Gyoza, ramen and rice dishes were all spot on, and the staff were all lovely. 100% we would return

Ramen was alright, broth was a bit bland. The scallops were quite small, with not so special seasoning, and slightly undercooked.

Dropped in for dinner on a Saturday. Good atmosphere, attentive staff and the food was delicious. Recommend: - tako yaki (best we’ve had) - chicken gyoza (also up there with the best we’ve ever had) - tempura dishes We had an issue with one of our dishes and the manager handled it excellently, we will definitely return. The floor seats are a really lovely feature.

Firstly check the health rating for this place that pretty much tells you everything. The food was actually quite nice, the reason I wouldn't go again is because of the health rating that I found out after I had been there. Also was forced to pay a service charge which is incredibly cheeky!!

So called Japanese restaurant, the food is not. Not Japanese quality anyway.

Me and my family are from France, and our daughter is studying in Birmingham, we visited this place few months back and there’s this lovely server called Sharon who entertained and give us the most satisfying costumer service and brilliant excellent recommendations, sadly she doesn’t work here anymore, we still sat down and ordered few food and drink, but seems that the server isn’t very friendly at all, with a very bad attitude towards foreigners, I ordered drinks for me and my family and a bento box with miso soup, a veg dumpling, a ten Ichi ramen, and a platter of shushi, all in all it wasn’t the best come back I was expecting, the drinks didn’t arrive not til the bento box arrive, ( miso soup was brought in my table when I finish my bento box ) , veg gyoza inside was a bit frozen you can tell that they are not making this freshly made which it’s so disappointing to bite a hot outside and half hot and cold in inside 🤢, ten Ichi ramen was okay, and the shushi platter which most disappointing seeing the discoloured fish with a very funny smell 🤢 I told the manager about it which it’s the server, they said it’s the way they froze the salmon but they are sure that the salmon is fresh and when it arrives it’s been cut and froze. All in all I would recommend to come to this place, management hasn’t been on top of their staff nor their food hygiene. I would rate this 0 if I could, avoid going to this place. By the way I’ve been force to pay the service charge which it’s very cheeky!!

The best bargain for Japanese food in the neighborood, I had a good meal without fuss. Service is good and ingredients are fresh. Interesting decoration. By comparison in the area, kyoto is similar priced but not nearly as good and Takumi is much more delicious but be prepared to pay very steep prices.

I've been here many times now and without fail every time the food has been gorgeous, the staff are lovely and attentive, and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night, its definitely my go to.

My wife wanted a bento box to treat herself this evening. Not worth the money in brief, 1 prawn with2 slices of a unknown vegatable,salad, small soup, a slice of melon with 5 grapes and some fried veg of some description. £18, not worth the cost. Lesson learnt, Please note we had Teppanyaki next door for an additional £4 really good value, no complaints

Came for a family Sunday lunch. Positives were that the place is lovely and cosy, nice open and gorgeous location. However food was really poor and with no check backs to the table we felt we didn’t have the opportunity to say anything at the right time. The staff were dealing with a complaint from another table. Tough the shushi we had was a frozen, barely had salad, gyoza was good, they give a fatty char Sui soup for my daughter.Very disappointed definitely won’t be coming back

Avoid this place if you want good food and service, Mices running around Me and my friend visited yesterday evening and ordered shushi which was very discoloured and bland not fresh, ordered king prawn which tasted good but they use too much oil, my finger nails was covered of oil, only decent thing was rice . disappointment by terrible service, place overpriced and to top it off we saw mice running around under the table. Staff and manager don't care about feedback, offered tea on the house which we refused and left when we saw the mices. Avoid. We have been forced to pay the service charge! Avoid this place!

We waited an hour and half for our food . The restaurant was reasonably not busy at all. but there were numerous staff serving. The miso soup arrived 30 minutes before the the Bento box. This was poor - 'salad' just lettuce 'salmon fish ( doesn’t look fresh and there’s funny smell ) No radish or pickles, the melon wasn't really ripe. The rice was ok! I had to ask 3 times for a second drink. We refused to pay service charge and this caused surprise even when we stated why We don’t want to pay we’ve been forced to pay service charge !! Very disappointing and not a restaurant we will return to.

Came here to eat with my friends, a bit disappointed due to the shushi not being fresh. You can tell it’s been frozen! Enjoyed miso soup I would rate thus 1/10 due to being forced to pay service charge! We didn’t like the service due to the waitress being rude to us. Absolutely horrible. Would not be coming back or recommend this so called restaurant to anyone! I don’t normally do reviews but this place needs it. I came with my partner to eat at this restaurant on sunday, i was greeted by a young lady and seated she was wonderful, sweet kind and like they say first impression are everything, so its a great start. Ordered our food drinks etc. The food took a while to come out which didnt make any sense as the restaurant was quiet. Now this is where everything went downhill. The young lady who greeted us went to eat some food in the section of the front of the restaurant. The chef who makes the sushi went to her and started shouting at her and actually made her cry and leave the restaurant. What in the actual blubber is going on! Cheff cannot be doing that to the staff whatsoever. I hope the owners are dealing with this accordingly. I spoke with the manager I believe her name is ann or anna and she did not care whatsoever she was rude to us and said hear is your bill and wanted us to leave because we asked questions. Now i dont know what restaurant that you are running here but this is absolutely disgusting behaviour. I ADVISE NO-ONE eat here food is all frozen, sushi old and the management/cheffs are disgraceful!!!!

Came here to eat with my friends 2 weeks ago on a Sunday and the lovely Italian girl ( I didn’t catch her name) she look after us brilliant, back again and the service and food was Terrible sat daw on a very dirty chair and Ann give us a sticky menu, ordered few things like vegetable noodles shushi and gyoza, I asked one of the staff if I could have some tap water but seems they are not happy to give tap water, this is the part I didn’t like in this restaurant, I asked for the bill which there’s a service charge that it’s optional I wanted to leave the service charge and pay £5 for the tip, few months back Oreo had said that service charge and tips the waitress don’t get it, so why do we have to pay service charge and tips if the staff don’t get it? Where does it go? This is terrible for the owners of this business. Ann give us the receipt and she was horrible she has an attitude of saying why eat in restaurants if we don’t have money to pay the service charge! Me and my friends was shocked they way she spoke to us definitely won’t be back !!!! Terrible service by Ann!

Food is quite large, bento looks amazing. Service is awesome. But ramen is a bit light not really authentic. Nice try but less likely to visit it again.

Came here with my friends. The place is nice but the ramen was quite tasteless. At the end when we got the bill we didn’t pay service charge and the waitress came back to say that it was missing that amount. I asked if it was mandatory and she gave me attitude and was quite rude about it saying that I needed to let her know before. This situation put me off. So I won’t be returning and not recommend the place.

Amazing service with such lovely staff, the food is very high quality and the sushi boats very cool (and well priced), the building is also very pretty inside and all round a perfect place for Japanese food.

Very quick and prompt service from the staff, food was very fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the Tamago Nigiri, Unagi skewer and avo maki while my companion had the beef bibimbap. Both were super tasty and would come again due to the wide variety of meals here. It’s a great reasonably priced restaurant with a nice atmosphere, perfect for a night out!

Food is pretty good here and the pricing is decent as well. I came here several times during my visit to Birmingham and I was satisfied each time. They have good nigiri and rolls :)

First time and great experience

One of few Japanese restaurants I have been to and it was just good. I got the beef ramen and dragon sushi I believe. Dragon sushi was pretty good in opinion, quite smoky and the ramen just basically reminded of normal boiled packet ramen which I don’t hate.

Gorgeous Tamaki, Sushi rolls and Ramen in a gorgeous setting - love the wall mural! Best food we've tasted in a while. Definitely returning soon! Thank-you and see you again Feb 22 and Sept 22 update - returned again and it's still gorgeous

Sushi was good, but other noodle dishes were bland. Table waiting staff, gave us warm flat coke, when we asked for ice she placed it on our table with her back turned to us while serving the other table simultaneously. Ok she good at multitasking but definitely not good etiquette as a waiter.

Visited Ten Ichi this evening, we had two bowls of Ramen, a few sharing sushi and skewers. The Ramen was ok, very mild..Portion size was good. Sushi was also ok but had weirdly warm Wasabi, however flavour was good. Probably won’t be back, but not bad for the price.

My friend and I were going to Kyoto on Hurst St for sushi but it was closed, but then we found this place in the Arcadian: - the sushi is good quality and there's a wide selection - there are other food choices too - good value for money - great staff/surroundings

Terrible service, do not recommend. Was supposed to be a nice anniversary meal for me and my partner as we were craving Japanese food but turned out to be a nightmare instead. Food was taking ages and so was service. It felt like we were being ignored. Customers were arriving, eating and paying for their food and leaving before we even had our full order on our table. When someone did come to help he explained they only had one chef doing sushi and there was a party upstairs of 20 clearly getting priority in a private room. Our hot non sushi food items were held because they wanted to serve sushi first. We were unhappy because we were given no warning of just how long the food would take. Had we known we would’ve said to bring the hot food first it wouldn’t be a problem for us to wait for the sushi. When we said this our hot food suddenly appeared so quickly like it had just been sitting there. I understand if they have a method but in this situation it would’ve been okay to have adapted by bringing the non sushi items out when they were ready. Our food took so long to come out that I had completely lost my appetite and was not interested in eating the food anymore. I was left feeling like we were just a massive inconvenience when all I was hoping was for a nice meal with my partner. I actually got upset because I just felt so uncomfortable being there. We had to take the food home as I felt so disappointed and uncomfortable being in that restaurant. We arrived at 7:50pm to a barely full restaurant it was around 9:30pm by the time we received all our order. They then have the cheek to charge a forced service charge of 10% as well which is ridiculous. When my partner complained about the service they said they’d give us 10% off the food. When we received the bill we had the 10% discount (which wasn’t even calculated as 10%, it was slightly less) and then after the discount we had the 10% service charge charged on top so that cancelled out any discount. An absolute joke if I’m honest. Felt like they were taking us for complete mugs. We did pay as we did take the food away and did not want to cause a fuss because ultimately we just wanted to leave as quickly as we could.

Service was great. Restaurant was clean and well designed. Food was incredible and probably the best ramen I’ve ever had. Visiting from Nottingham and I couldn’t recommend this place more, 10/10 and I’ll be coming back if I’m ever in Birmingham again

Hello all! It is with great pleasure I write this review, one that should've been done sooner for sure! I have been to Ten Ichi now twice since I first layed eyes upon this beautiful building. The decor is something just truly dazzling in my eyes, especially the attention to detail around the staircase sections and even the restrooms too! The staff couldn't of been ever so more endearing and attentive to our table, Micheal would chat with us, show us how to use our chopsticks, share our smiles, he really made us feel special. I had such a wonderful time just getting to know the menu and some of delicious plum wine, *warmed* sake and the care of all staff, especially Micheal - I chose here as my birthday meal outting. Coming back for my birthday was truly something I can't forget, I had never celebrated a birthday that felt so inportant or appreciated, even more so by the familiar strangers of Ten Ichi. They did so much for me, they played a birthday song over the restaurants lovely atmospheric music for a moment and even lit a candle in ice-cream for me... I was struggling to not tear up, it was just so appreciated. The food was incredible, every last bite. I've never really been to a restaurant, especially one with so much selection and class of atmosphere before, so I made sure to choose a selection of dishes me and my partner would both like and go through like a taster of everything, this worked out super! I planned to get two mains but we were full lol. Everything just tastes so great, looks so great too! Attention to detail is In every move the team of Ten Ichi make, not a fault you could even begin to whisp up. Personally, thank you all so much for everything, the way you're on top and attentive in every moment just feels so passionate and caring, each and every one of the team carried this positive attitude, but Micheal for sure, felt like I gained a friend, Thank you all. ☺️

Pleasantly surprised at the portion size of the ramen. Staff were friendly and we didn’t feel rushed. We asked for sparkling water and we were given still and even though it’s on the menu I don’t think even stock it, which is somewhat unusual as it’s a fairly normal thing for a restaurant to have.

The best Japanese restaurant I've been so far. I was there to celebrate my birthday with two friends of mine, when the restaurant staff made me two (!) sweet surprises, one of them accompanied by smoky dry ice! The food was absolutely amazing, freshly made and beautifully presented. I loved every single dish. The waiters are lovely people, and the service was super efficient. The plum wine is a must-try.

This used to be an amazing place and one of my favourites for sushi for a long time, now theyve changed ownership or changed chefs, everybodys new and my god it was awful. Curry was watery, rice was soggy, sushi just wasnt the same. Everything was awful awful, left more annoyed than anything and with a £91 bill!!!!!

If you're looking for authentic Japanese sushi/sashimi restaurant, this is not the place. Would recommend Sushi Passion in Birmingham instead - authentic. I ate the sushi platter and sashimi set at Ten Ichi, very disappointing. Also ordered katsu don (which tasted oddly like chinese cooking style instead of a japanese flair). Very subpar quality and below average taste for all the items I've ordered. I cannot justify the price tag at all. Sushi and sashimi sets will come out with dry ice creating 'smoke' - definitely for showmanship and very much instagrammable. Otherwise, quite okay service and they do have an extensive menu. Just don't expect an authentic Japanese meal, will be disappointed.

Really impressed by this restaurant. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious, the service was super quick and the prices are really fair. Good atmosphere in there too. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good Japanese place to eat in Birmingham.

I absolutely love this place. The wait staff are some of the friendliest people in the world. They always make us feel welcome and at home and genuinely happy to have us in their restaurant. The food is great, and as someone who is allergic to avocado and can’t always find a sushi restaurant that will accommodate that, they are always willing to alter the menu for me as everything is made fresh. Just a lovely place to dine and spend a saturday evening date night. Will always come back!

My first time here but not my last, food was great and service amazing. This is in my top 5 places to eat in Birmingham after only one visit

Firstly, the place is beautiful. Secondly, the staff was brilliant. They were very attentive and always more than happy to help, they really topped this experience. Thirdly, the food. The food was absolutely delicious. Every mouthful was just heaven in our mouth. Definitely recommend.

Good place to be BUT please be very careful that your ordered items are delivered and being patient will not help either. The initial experience with drinks and starters was good while for the main course we ordered 3 items and received only 2 after 20+ mins of finishing the starters even though the restaurant was almost empty. When we made them realised that one main course is missing, the response was apologtic with next question from server - are you paying by card or cash!!

Very large menu. I wondered how they manage. Some of the dishes were exquisite but others disappointing. The strong smell of frying oil stuck to our clothes long after we left. Service not great. But inspite of that I still crave their tempura veggies. Variety of sushi dishes with reasonable prices. Their food looks amazing in photos.
