Menu is limited and some items like the veggie bagel are written on a board but not pointed out by staff, so it’s a good thing I saw it as that’s what I ordered. The bagel was delicious and the cappuccino was excellent. The service was just Ok and the whole experience could be a lot better. Upon entering at lunchtime I walked to the counter and asked for the menu. Scanned the counter and asked about the salads that are all over Instagram and told they only do them in summer. I had to ask if there were seats at the back (the tables were taken in the front) and if I could sit down despite saying I wanted to eat in when asking for the menu. It took 20 minutes for the bagel to arrive. It is a little cramped inside. I banged my head when walking through to the front of the restaurant to pay. There should be a “mind your head” sign above the doorway in the back room. With hindsight I should have sat at the window bar looking out the front. I imagine all the customers are locals who know the staff and are familiar with the offering, seating, ordering etc but as someone from outside the village visiting for the first time it wasn’t particularly welcoming if I’m honest. Lucky to get parking on the high street. Food and coffee were very good as I said.

Let me start by saying I am a BIG fan of Tom's Food and I am a very regular customer, having purchased approximately 2,348 of his wonderful wild boar sausage rolls, over the last couple of years, at a cost of exactly £4 each. I usually buy two each time, one for lunch and one for high tea, or more likely, two for lunch. These are monsters, so two for lunch can prove to be a belly buster. This morning I was greeted by a charming young lady who packed up my sausage rolls and sent me on my way. To my horror, these rolls seem to have halved in length and reduced in diameter by 15.2%, meaning that Real Terms Sausage Roll Inflation (RTSRI) in the village of Cuckfield has hit 54% this month. Maybe this was just a poorly cut batch this morning, so I will try again - but at £4 each, the size and plumptiousness must be maintained, or it will be Greggs, from now on. Come on Tom, keep them a decent length and with a wide girth. They need to be wide enough to force me to gurn on the first mouthful, as they always did. By jove, missus! Please don't cut costs, or you may lose one of your most loyal customers.

We went for Saturday brunch based on the reviews and ratings. Service was adequate at best, not the most welcoming of staff - more so after twice returning a supposed cappuccino that was, in fact, a latte which wasn't wanted/ordered but still chared. Our food failed to live up to expectations. The decor was however nice.

I occasionally create an unnecessary carbon footprint by driving to Tom's to purchase not one but two, mind, WILD BOAR SAUSAGE ROLLS. I've no idea what else is on the menu as I am usually rather focused and salivating as I step over the threshhold. There was some lachrymose yummy mummy staring into her latte this morning, and a silly old bint sipping her tea from the saucer, but all I could think about was the wild boar sausage rolls. Have I mentioned those? They are simply amazing. Pricey but fandabbydosey.

It was fresh, healthy and I find it hard to pick a favourite out of the salads. On Saturday my husband and I popped in to get some pastries - we spotted that they had bacon and cheese croissants. In today's busy, noisy world it's relaxing to find this gem tucked away, you could almost walk past it and I like that. Coffee shops come no more compact and bijou than this haven in the village of Cuckfield, presided over by the genial and accomplished Tom. With no menu displayed outside (that I could see) and the web site only giving a hint of things that might be on offer, I only had trip advisor reviews to give me the confidence to try Tom’s Food. I’m so glad that I did.The place is different and so is the food. The menu is short but the food is obviously freshly prepared with a lot of care. I ordered a “bottled larger” (sic) – that’s all it said on the menu but I fancied taking pot luck. What arrived was bottle of Bohemian Rhapsody from the Westerham Brewery, never had it before and it was very good. My wife had a couple of glasses of white wine which she said were very acceptable. My wife had scrambled egg on sour dough with parma ham, roasted tomato and avocado and I had the meat balls with cannellini beans, roast tomatoes, picked veg (white cabbage?) and some frisee and red lettuce. Both dishes were extremely good. My meatball and beans dish was perfect and all very tasty. For pudding we both had the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, homemade and very Moorish. With a couple of expressos and service the total bill came to £50.We liked Tom’s Food (eats, drinks and staff) and whilst we had a proper meal, one could just have a drink and a bit of homemade cake and pass the time if one preferred – its open all day. One minor criticism was that the restaurant was bit chilly on this mild December day.I’m sure a return trip to Cuckfield will see us eating and drinking at Tom’s Food again.

Tom is a charming host who adds excitement to classic dishes served in what resembles a rustic, white-washed log cabin. We decided to venture beyond our usual Surrey haunts for my husband's birthday brunch, and were certainly well rewarded. The welsh rarebit had just the right ratio of tangy cheese to sourdough bread and the consistency was satisfyingly substantial, while my scrambled eggs with avocado were creamy and full of flavour. The vibe is relaxed and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A generous portion of moist carrot cake was the perfect conclusion to a meal that delivered so much more than expected, due to quality ingredients excellently prepared in a warm, intimate environment. Thank you Tom, we cannot wait to come back!

4 of us plus a baby went to Tom's for the first time yesterday and had a great late lunch. We were a bit nervous in advance as there was no indicative menu on the website but this actually reflected the approach in the restaurant of focusing on fresh daily lunches rather than a set in stone menu. The salad was delicious and everyone else loved their ham hock muffin type dishes, great puddings and coffees to follow. The decor was a nice understated shabby-chic type look and the service was warm and welcoming.Ideal for lunch if you want something a bit healhier and more interesting than pub grub in a great village setting. Will definitely be back.

Visited for the first time this weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Chicken salad was lovely - fresh and tasty. We had some wine and beer also which was also good. Finished off with some cake - we loved it so bought some more to take home with us. Seating was comfortable and the place was buzzing. Would be lovely if it was open on Sunday (but he already opens 6 days a week!)Thank you - will certainly return.

A wonderful cosy restaurant - perect for a quick coffee (really is the best) and cake (Polenta, amazing) or a delicious brunch, or for a truly special private dining evening. Whatever Tom prepares for you will be delicious, fresh and beautifully presented - can't stay away!

Had an excellent brunch today very fast and just enough, with a refreshing glass of dry white wine. Good value for your money. Great place to meet up with friends as I did today for a relaxing lunch. If it hadn't been for parking restraints we could have sat here all afternoon talking and drinking good coffee. Will definitely be revisiting, the reviews didn't lie.

Trendy place to meet your friends. Great interior designed restaurant. Ensure you have plenty of time to enjoy this special little find at the heart of the village as service can be slow due to the attention of detail from the menu and the number of guests.

Second visit in 2 weeks and both occasions were absolutely great. Really good quality coffee and the food is so fresh and tasty. I had the muffin with ham hock and poached egg, delicious. The week before I had the Welsh Rarebit which was equally as tasty. A definite favourite and a real asset to Cuckfield. My only reservation was being rather loudly reprimanded by a lady who came into the cafe and said that it was far too hot and then told the charming waitress to turn off the heater! I felt as though I was back at school and she was most definitely the headmistress! Admittedly December has been very mild but it was a damp and drizzly day and my elderly mother and I were sitting by the door. With Tom's being such a very popular venue there were lots of comings and goings. It was a pity that our delicious lunch ended on such a note. I understand that she's connected to Tom's but there really was no need to have been quite so vocal about it.

Tom uses Horsham Coffee Roaster beans and makes a better cup of coffee than anyone else in Mid Sussex - and I'm extremely fussy about my coffee!Lovely vibe, nice crowd, amazing eggs, prosciutto & avocado - great for breakfast.Large wooden tables to spread out newspaers and some gorgeous smelling candles & diffusers from the home store over the road.Hard to fault.

Took two work colleagues to Tom's on the strength of good reviews and my expectations were exceeded. Booked a table as it is very short on space which was as well because it was reasonably busy. The menu is rather limited in choice but we had different lunch choices and all were excellent. The house wine was excellent value and the dessert option was really tasty. It is very much a quirky place with friendly staff and a good cook in Tom. We will return.

I booked a dinner for 8 to celebrate my wife's birthday a fortnight ago. I had never heard of Tom's Food before June - I cannot imagine how I hadn't heard about it before because it is certainly something worth shouting about. There were quite a few items I had to ask Tom to exclude from his menu but he came up with something that pleased everyone - so full of lovely ingredients, unusual combinations, and executed perfectly. The evening was a complete surprise for my wife and I think she wondered where I was taking here when we arrived. The atmosphere is so simple but very special and apart from the 8 of us, the only other person was Tom who as well as creating a lovely dinner, served us all with great charm and clearly a passion for his food. How grateful I am that Tom's Food is only a 20 minute drive away. A couple of days before our visit, Tom had received some long-awaited news about his planning application. He deserves every possible success based on our lovely evening!

It's very hard to find the simplest of foods (scrambled eggs) done well when eating out. Toys does them perfectly My husband and I went for a 2 hours walk this morning and were looking for a hearty brunch before walking back. We both had the scrambled eggs with avocado on sourdough. It may sound simple but it was a taste sensation! Also the soya coffee was delish also. The simple done perfect is a thing of joy. Tom we will be back!

We booked Tom's for a private dining evening for a birthday meal. Menu chosen in discussion with Tom who's suggestions catered for all our guests dietary preferences wonderfully. Lovely smoked trout with a very delicate flavour to start, followed by fantastic guinea fowl for mains and divine summer fruits and chocolate desert with a salted cream that might sound odd but was a so well judged combnation to round off the meal beautifully. Thanks Tom for a great night!

I loved this place and will definitely return. Warm, welcoming atmosphere with delicious organic food. My coffee was perfect and Ploughmans lunch was fresh and very good value. But it’s the atmosphere and the staff that make this place really special.

Found the restaurant while we were in HH for errands. Lovely friendly staff & good variety of choices on the menu. The superfood salad with added grilled salmon was the best restaurant salad I have had in a long while. Very fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked salmon. The decor, furniture and layout of the interior is very dated, but we will both be back for the great food & service!

Very good fish and chip shop. Always enjoy the fish whether cod or haddock. Better parking than any of the other fish and chips shops in East Grinstead - like to make a quick getaway so food does not go cold!
