Tom Yam Restaurant in Cheshire East

Went early doors after work with my husband, for our date light, we looked at the reviews , amd were looking forward to authentic Thai cuisine, I ordered a mushroom satay to start; which was so hard it was inedible, however the sauce that accompanied it was really good, then I had the sizzling Thai chicken in Thai sauce, the chicken was 3 lumps of hard inedible meat, I Could not even cut through each piece which Made me feel sick, they sent it back and gave me the same dish but sliced chicken, still awful and tough, again the sauce was great, I didn’t eat any of the chicken just a piece of broccoli and cauliflower, expensive night And In addition the female that served us has an unwelcoming demeanour when entering, I cook a great deal of chinese, thai and other cuisines and wished i had stayed at home.

Excellent food but very expensive

We took advantage of the 5pm-6.30 early doors menu - 2 selected courses for £20. I had 2+ ribs and a yellow chicken curry and there was plenty for me even if the ribs portion was probably smaller than full price. They were quite accommodating of my wife's dietary requirements, and as ever, the service was very pleasant. With drinks and top for £60. Can't be bad these days.

Excellent service Highly Recommended

Very average food. Takeaway standard I'd say. My egg fried rice had no egg in it when I remarked about it to a waiter i was told it was because the chef cooks a large amount at the start of the night and as we were quite late to eat (9pm) I got the last of it with no egg left. Hey ho. Service was OK though and the place was 'lively'.

The restaurant is lovely and stylish and a great venue. The staff were very friendly and professional with exceptional service. The food was presented well and with great value at £19.95 for starter and main course from early bird menue. However, the food we had lacked in taste and flavour, which was a shame. We had the chicken sweet and sour and the vegetable/cashew nuts stir fry and the chicken panang curry.

Great Thai food , good service but need a smile not engaging. Enjoyed the meal .

Our first time here as we live out of the area. It was fantastic. The food is presented so well and colourfully that it immediately makes a visiual impact. I had the best green Thai curry I have ever experienced. Cannot fault the place at all.

Unfortunately I was given food poisoning from Tom Yam at 6pm Sunday, 29th October. My partner and I visited for my birthday and wanted to try a different Thai as we usually go to the Chilli Banana. I ordered laab gai & duck in holy basil and my partner ordered duck spring rolls and chicken red curry. All tasted fine except the laab gai (was quite tepid in temperature, but thought no more of it). I woke up at 4am (my birthday) with the telltale food poisoning symptoms (temperature, projectile vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps), which lasted 3 days. I'm not someone who wishes to damage a restaurants reputation unfairly so I did call Tom Yam on Monday 30th October to inform them of what had happened, I was told that they would check if any one else had called in and they'd get back to me, I didn't receive a call back so I called again on Tuesday, the man apologised and offered me a £20 voucher "to use next time you visit". I don't think he understood a first impression as bad as this one will ever be remedied. I did expect at minimum to be refunded for my meal but unfortunately this looks unlikely. Service was good but there was only around 10 customers in that night so that is to be expected. Restaurant decor is nice and modern. Price wise, £88 Inc. 10% tip for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 beers, 1 cocktail and 1 diet coke.

Took my wife out for a birthday bite to eat here last night. Great Thai food (which I think is harder to find in the UK than other cuisines), coupled with attentive and efficient service; thanks team Tom-Yam!

Extremely disappointing. Having visited here before, we were expecting high quality Thai food. The chicken wing starters were dry with no sauce or taste. The ribs tasteless. The pad Thai was awful and special chicken curry was awful. Would not recommend

Some time since we last ate here. I am GF and the starters for me were limited but I had wonderful king prawns. The other 3 had satay skewers etc all very good. Now the main course was superb. 3 of us had seabass in a sweet and sour sauce. 2 large pieces of seabass on each plate. it was exceptional. Service good.

Possibly my favourite Thai in Northen England

We had an amazing meal last night at Tom Yam, Poynton. The Thai Spare Ribs were fall off the bone and the Beef Massaman Curry was so tender and flavoursome. My husband had the Fishcakes and Yellow Curry which were equally as good. The service and atmosphere were also first class. Can’t wait to go again.

Fab food and attentive service (just like in Thailand!) One tiny gripe was the sticky rice was pretty solid. They did change it and it was slightly better but appeared a little over microwaved to us. Everything else was perfect.

Impecable food beautifully presented

This is the biggest menu that I’ve ever seen this year. The restaurant looks nice and cozy. Staff are very helpful. The prawn cracker is delicious with sweet chilly sauce. We ordered beef and chicken stir fry and Sea Bass and Beef sirloin Weeping Tiger, which the chef cooked to medium rather than the 3 chilies on the menu(we asked for Medium spicy), it wasn’t spicy as a result and probably should have stuck with the menu description these . Taste like normal Chinese restaurant quality. Probably we ordered wrong food. We should order some Thai food in this Thai restaurant. The sea bass with Ginger is ok, sea bass is fresh but taste plain,not impressed. Highly recommend:Egg fry rice. The Long Island ice tea cocktail is absolutely taste fanstastic and looks beautiful. Anyway we do enjoy our reunited time together. Extremely impressed with their service. Nice tableware. All staff are very helpful.

I have eaten here a few times. The service is excellent. The staff are friendly. The food is always delicious and of a high standard. I would recommend a visit.

On a quiet Wednesday night, it would be easy to drop your standards. As first time visitors, I was really impressed with the level of service, the quality and presentation of the courses . Combined with the non invasive level of service, I couldn’t fault our dining experience. Thank you, it’s refreshing to have a great meal out!

Consistently the best food. We have been coming here for years and now order more take aways from them but the food is always absolutely exceptional, both in the restaurant or for take away. By far the best Thai we have been to. Thank you Tom Yam. Your food and service is exceptional.

Service was impeccable, the food wasn't bad, but not special.

Food good but very expensive for this type of restaurant. Small portions of prawns for the cost charged. It worked out at £6.50 a prawn. This was charged on the menu at £20 and 3 were served. Service was perhaps too good as no sooner had starter’s finished than the mains arrived.

Fantastic food best flavours I have ever tasted, and great decor

Well cooked tasty food and clean well designed/decorated restaurant although the gents could do with a good clean. Fairly limited menu with beef options but no pork options. Service efficient.

Fabulous experience in every way! Had a delicious meal here with our daughter. Been meaning to try it for ages and are so glad that we did. Service was exceptionally good and the whole ambience of the interior was perfect. Many restaurants are too brightly lit and you are dazzled, but here they have it just right. Makes for a lovely intimate vibe. The food was super tasty and we all enjoyed our choices. Well done to all, you gave us a very special evening to treasure with our daughter, before we moved to Scotland!

Good quality Thai food served up in generous amounts (yes, we probably did over-order! Still ate it all!) with a warm smile. Not the cheapest but not uncompetitive either.

Green Thai Curry and Chicken Pad Thai highly recommended. The let down was on Pan friend duck which was cold.

I had a Thai red beef curry and have to say it was probably one of the worst thai meals I've had in a restaurant. The sauce was like water and not that flavoursome. The meal and drinks were also expensive compared to other Thai restaurants in South Manchester.

Shame I can't give 10 stars! We've been going to TomYam since it opened, we're lucky enough to live within walking (stumbling) distance. The food and the service is literally always amazing, can't recommend it enough. Sunday's are a good time to go last minute as they're usually quiet, best booking any other day as it gets busy.

Well I’ve never had frozen cauliflower and broccoli in a Thai dish before. I’ve got to say , the service was fabulous but the food was poor. I had the weeping tiger with holy basil - with steak What I got served was Sunday roast with a spicy gravy and mixed veg Really disappointing.

Perfect food, in a relaxing environment with courteous understanding & professional staff make Tom Yam a wonderful destination for dining.

Although the food was tasty, the tofu was missing from mixed veg starter. Thai Red curry was a good portion but had hardly any vegetables and about 6 pieces of tofu... not good value for money so disappointed.

Nice Thai with a good and varied menu. Went on a Saturday night and it was extremely busy. Definately worth a try. Unusually too for a Thai restaurant they served an assortment of puddings and deserts which always go down well. Friendly efficient staff, definately will go here again

The Absolute Best Thai ! Excellent food with great menu choices. Service was attentive but not too much. We sat upstairs which has a lovely atmosphere. Went with family for the first time and we will definitely be back. Everyone must try Tom Yam.

Disappointing quality and flavour despite other good reviews and lacking authentic depth. Good service and they kindly deducted the price of the starter my wife disliked. Really wanted to find a good quality Thai restaurant. The hunt goes on

The soup was delicious. The service was excellent. "The Weeping tiger" was well done beef and nicely cooked and presented.

Lovely restaurant and great food

Had a gorgeous meal in there last night. It never fails this place. Impeccable staff, very clean, speedy service and the food is the best Thai food for miles around. Really good.

A simply excellent restaurant that wowed us. Beautiful Thai food, tasty and wonderfully presented. The papaya salad starter was awesome, but next time I’ll ask for it to be a little less spicey. The green and massaman curries were a delight. Brilliant and attentive service.

Food tasted o.k. but very expensive and very little portions. We also think it gave my wife food poisoning as she has been up all night vomiting! Duck red curry £18 (minus 10% for collection) less than half a breast of duck, tough and half a small plastic container full of sauce... £3.50 (minus 10% collection) for a tiny bag of sticky rice. We certainly will not be ordering from here again!

We went for dinner.We required vegetarian without eggs and fish.The waitress, Rochana gave excellent service and took notice of our requirements and ensured it was full filed.. The food was excellent and service was without fault.

We stopped going to this restaurant because we felt rushed after a certain time when they wanted to clear the tables after an evening service. The food has always been ok! After approx 12 months of going elsewhere tonight we decided to have a takeaway delivered. £35 for two meals, red Thai curry and chicken Penang (nothing special) , unfortunately this was a very average meal only counting four thinly cut pieces of chicken in the red Thai curry! And very very watery, didn’t taste of much as though it had been watered down! We will go back to the chilli banana after tonight nicer food at a more affordable price.

Had a fantastic meal here last night. Split over two levels, the restaurant has a great atmosphere and is a nice place to be. The food was amazing, I particularly recommend the Panang creamy beef curry, it was delicious!

It's been a while since I've eating out due to covid 19 but this Truly sensational food was a good welcome back to dining out

We visited on a busy Saturday night and this smartly decorated restaurant looked promising according to the reviews. We received a warm welcome and good service but sadly the food just didn't live up to expectation. It was presented well and the starter vegetarian spring rolls were excellent but both main dishes my husband and I had were seriously flavourless - really bland - strange as my husband had ordered something that was advertised as very spicy! Much better Thai options around, I think. Maybe a quiet weekday visit would have been better. Would love to have awarded a better rating as everything else was good!

The starter was very nice (pork ribs). I was slightly disappointed by my main,(Beef on a sizzling platter) not as tasty as I had hoped. We were allocated a table for 90 mins, however I felt slightly rushed because there was no time gap between courses. We sat down at 19.00 and were leaving at 19.50.

Staff brilliant and food exquisite.

I get the hot beef and it was served fast, effectively and was incredibly tasty! Would recommend!

If you like Thai food you've stubbled across one of the best around, Now Thai food is not my favourite food but Tom Yams is my favourite place to eat.. yes it's that good.

Myself and my partner had Dinner at this lovely restaurant for a 60th birthday celebration, food is always excellent & the service is always above and beyond.

We've missed eating out over the last 18 months of Covid. This was our first real dining out experience and I have to say it was great. The hygiene levels and measures were exactly right, without being overly intrusive. Booked tables only, hand cleanser dispensers...

The staff are so attentive and polite and the food was incredible. Toilets are very clean. It was an amazing experience and i will definately be back!
