Excellent food, good value, rustic restaurant

Excellent, authentic food, with friendly, efficient service. ___ We've since returned, and it's still the same great food and service.

Very good tasty food. Opening times limited so be sure check/book.

A lovely family restaurant that has been in Macclesfield for 20 years. Lots of loyal customers, whom are welcomed and acknowledged. Food suited for western appetites. Pad Thai isn't the kind where you break the egg to get to the noodles, nor thick. They are rice noodles. Avoid putting chilli on. Spicy. Opposite of most restaurants. Dishes had lots of meat/fish/prawns but not many vegetables. Glad tried. Found through word of mouth.

Last Minute treat for my son as we'd been out all day long! Maliwan sure did the job. Absolutely delicious Thai curry's (we had a red and green, beef and prawn and shared) Apparently amazing prawn toast which disappeared as quick as it arrived and Mark was a fabulous host. He served a multitude of arrivals and juggled takeaway orders giving everyone wonderful attention. This place is fab !

We were visiting Macclesfield after living there many years ago and were staying near this Thai restaurant. So glad we visited. The owner (assume it was the owner) was so friendly and funny. Very welcoming. The waitress was also lovely. We ordered starters spring rolls and tempura. They were substantial portions and very nice. We then had a stir fry with cashews, basil and something else, penang veg curry, egg fried rice and rice noodles. All washed down with beer and wine! A very good experience and wish it was near to where we live now!

Had to visit on returning to UK after not being there for 3 years still as good as ever! This restaurant caters for all tastes in my opinion if you like it hot or not their is something that will be amazing!

I’m from south east Asia. And I think the food is not authentic Thai at all. First of all, there's no chopsticks. The pad thai noodles are overcooked and we cound't taste the smell of the wok(Wok hei) Also, I didn't taste the thai sweet basil and lemon in the green curry.

Superb authentic Thai food, bursting with flavour and excellent quality ingredients. Mark is also very helpful with the menu choices.

Recently ordered from Maliwan after a long time, as found other Thai restaurants very pricey these days. It did not disappoint, no wonder it’s been there for years. Friendly owner, delicious food, melt in your mouth ribs and very good price. Will order again next week.

The place could do with a remodel but food tastes great. Not that I've ever been to Thailand but as far as i know, all the food is very authentic.

7 friends last night. 4 have lived in Asia so know authentic Thai flavours when they taste them 3 of us shared the yellow, red , green vegetation mains. Such delicate tastes. Only 1 request. MARK - learn a little Thai. So when a customer says " Dee mak mak" = Very good ...... you recognise it! You have Thai wife , nice for her you learn "เล็กน้อย nit noi Thai

This Thai has plenty of character but feels like it could do with a bit of an uplift. However, the food was delicious and there is plenty of choice. I believe it also does takeaway!

Possibly the best restaurant in the whole town. Macclesfield is lucky to have such incredible, authentic Thai cuisine like this. Having lived in Thailand and tried many places throughout the UK attempting to find those perfect flavours, I've not found any place as good as this. Truly a gem.

We have had a number of takeaways from here during Lockdown. Never disappointed dishes always taste fresh.

Due to the current climate it's takeaway only from here at present. We booked a collection slot 24 hours in advance and picked up a couple of superb meals. Can't wait for it to function as a restaurant again. Probably the best Thai restaurant in Macclesfield by far.

5 stars for Mark and his team . Best Thai in Britain I reckon. Best informal dining experience out of Bangkok. Perfect in every way , Food , service , drinks and the host 🙌🙌 If he delivered to Surrey I'd still use him Paul Surrey Hills ( writer and old customer)

The best Thai food I've tasted, excellent customer service. The quirky decor creates a great atmosphere, a welcome change from the common sterile franchise. Fantastic matradee, great sense of humour and brilliant customer service!

Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, very welcoming:) Food was delicious, full of flavour and still had the homemade feel to it 😌 I recommend the Soup starter and the pineapple, veg & cashew main (with prawns) First time going here after hearing it was better than chilli banana, it definitely tastes more authentic 😊 Thankyou!

Consistently great food at reasonable prices

Takeaway at the moment because of lockdown. Never seem to have to queue and great service. Good range of Thai specialities done well and a good spice flavour. We have asked for tweaks to some of the menu items and this was ok. Looking forward to a sit down meal here again soon.

We ordered our take away and it was ready to collect when we arrived at Maliwan. The food is collected while maintaining safe distancing.The food was very good.

Ordered a takeaway collection. There was a little confusion with our order, but the owner was incredibly helpful and it was quickly sorted out. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were decent. Would highly recommend!

Can only say the very best Thai around in the local area. Excellent food wine and atmosphere. Chef has an excellent menu covering all tastes. Front of house is friendly and knowledgeable. We've book already to return.

Just moved into the area and visit Maliwan last night for the first time. Food was amazing and the chap serving us was a good laugh. Definitely go again.

Been coming here for over ten years and consider it my favourite restaurant (of all time, not just in Macclesfield). Every dish is tasty, the menu has good variety of curries (yellow/red/green/penang) as well as stir fry options and the quality is consistently high. I highly recommend the mixed starter option. Mark always has time for a chat and remembers details about regular customers which is nice. Brought my husband here for our first date and this visit was for the in-laws visiting - they love it too. I really hope it remains open for many more years to come.

How this place is not mobbed every night beats me. Easily the best Thai in Cheshire in my opinion. My colleague and I shared some starters then wired into Red Curry for him and Green for me. Taste was awesome, Green curry was hot but tasty as. Highly recommended, Chilli Banana is good but food here is a class above

The menu is OK but not a huge range of dishes offered; but what is there is well cooked and presented. Nice friendly staff and the wine is not overly expensive. Beer is still a better bet.

This restaurant is absolutely lovely! A warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. The food is just, delightful! Some of the best food I’ve had! So tasty! Great service also. Would 100% recommend :)

Best Thai......crikey, maybe this side of Bangkok!!! Used to travel on business to Bangkok several times a year so I tell myself I know a thing or two about quality Thai cuisine. The Maliwan is as good as I’ve tasted in a UK Thai restaurant. Mark is a fun host and works really hard to make you feel welcome. His wife Maliwan delivers the goodies. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

I can't really comment on the food as we didn't get that far but the front of house service was certainly spicy. I suppose the repoitee is part of the overall ambience of the dining experience but I would find it would likely sour the prawns.

I have eaten all over the world .... and to find quality and authentic Thai cuisine was fantastic.An open kitchen where everything being prepared and cooked was on full and impressive display.All 4 of us were spoilt for choice ... with every mouthful an explosion of authentic Thai flavour.Value for money excellent !!Will be very much a regular.... thank you

Very pleasant restaurant with fantastic food. I tried their beef curry with egg fried rice. Also had spring rolls and king prawns with mushroom sauce for starters. Everything was delicious. Will be back for sure!

First visit for my 70th and I'm glad we went, good service, good food and drink and will be back.

Eat here at least once a month. Food always good and Mark always finds us a table. The fish cakes are super. The house wine is very good. If you like Thai food this is the place to come as not expensive.

Definitely the best Thai food in Macclesfield. I've eaten here lots of times, the food is consistently fresh, tasty and, of course, spicy! Friendly, helpful staff, I always leave feeling very happy and looking forward to my next visit.

We haven’t been for a while and I’m not sure why. But tonight was a celebration so we went back to the Maliwan. Still the same warm welcome from Mark and from Maliwan, hard at work in the kitchen. Still the same excellent food and house wine. This continues to be one of our favourite restaurants

I've been here many times over the years. Myself and a couple of friends gather here for a meal on a regular basis - even though it maybe once a year. Mark is brilliant and gives as good as he gets. He always supplies us with a fine wine at the optimum temperature. The food is esquisite and one of my frineds proclaims that this Thai place is better than any he has eaten in before, and he's eaten in a load. Don't usually do reviews but felt compelled as the Maliwan deserves every praise.

Have previously eaten here but the food this visit was not as good as before. Mixed starters were good. Had prawn and garlic stir fry and chicken and cashews. All were a bit salty and portions not quite as big as previously. Nice atmosphere but was a little disappointed.

We booked a table for my birthday but due to trains service were a little late to arrive. We were apologetic and understood if they could not fit us in but the restaurant was empty and he (assuming the manger) chased us out the door. Basically closed a door in our face. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to the great food. Been in the past and food has been amazing but service has always been questionable.

The restaurant was completely empty bar one table. Fast service but the gentleman kept runny me away to attend to this table so it took me a little while to place an order - my only downside.
