Phanthong Thai in Cheshire East

I really can't recommend this place anymore, it used to be average but now seems to have lost any sense of what being a restaurant actually is. The decor is kinda 80's style, the heating appears to be broken and they make do with two under powered electric heaters with extention leads trailing over the floor and they didn't appear to do much, we were all cold. The waitress looked fed up and bored that we were there and probably wanted to get off home. Menu items when they came bore little resemblance to what we'd ordered and when queried she snapped that she would "take them off the bill". She told us the dish I'd ordered they didn't make anymore and wasn't on the menu and a broccoli dish I'd ordered was just a pile of cabbage leaves. She said she would take the dishes off the menu, whether she did or not we couldn't be bothered checking, we just wanted to get out of there as soon as we could, not very relaxing at all.

Worst meal we have had in a long time. We ordered a fully vegetarian meal and they brought a meat starter out for us. My husband and I accidentally ate some of it before realising. When we told the waitress we didn’t even get an apology. When the right starter came out it was dripping with oil. The mains were poor too. If you want a nice Thai meal avoid this place!

Always fantastic. Cannot fault. Best Thai in Wilmslow! Consistently good, I have been visiting here since they first opened and have not had one negative experience yet.

The most authentic Thai I have had outside Bangkok. Food was outstanding, service excellent, cooked and run by lovely Thai people. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a taste of Bangkok, loved it

We had a fabulous lunch on our anniversary. To start absolutely delicious Tom Y am soup followed by prawns and scallops and then duck curry and larb.Everything was so fresh and tasty and the service was also good.Could not be faulted.Highly recommended.

Extremely pleasant, attentive staff. Overall, food was very good. However, the chicken skewers were undercooked, so we only ate the outer pieces. This has been mentioned in other reviews. Undercooked chicken is one of the highest risk factors for food poisoning, a warning which has repeatedly been reported through the media and a key point in catering training. We were fortunate to be seated next to a radiator, otherwise it would have been very cold. Overall, we had an enjoyable meal but hope that management/owner will take note of these comments, particularly regarding the under cooked chicken.

Friendly atmosphere, good service, large menu choice (separate Gluten Free menu), generous portions of tasty Thai dishes. I would be happy to revisit and suggest booking ahead to reserve a table.

Visited with friends - good food - only place you can get greey papaya salad for miles - I like the spicy dishes including steamed seabase with chilli and lime - yummy

We dined early and the restaurant was fairly quiet. We ordered traditional fair, made up of mixed starters, pad Thai, green curry and rice and it was all excellent - nothing to fault at all.

We dined here on a work event. The food in my opinion was quite average - I had the scallops to start and the sea bass for main. Perhaps I should have ordered more traditional meals. I actually left feeling a little disappointed. Perhaps I selected poorly for the starter and main. The service was good though and the evening was enjoyable, despite the food choices.

Having been a patron here for more than 10 years it pains me to say I'll never come back again. Family of 8 including children were served RAW chicken on more than 1 dish to be told simply sorry! They took over 15 minutes to give us a menu followed by 30 mins to take an order. Needles to say the food arrived much later and it was RAW (cannot repeat that enough)! We finally finished our meal almost 3 hours after we came in and make our feelings known to the manager (Angie) who simply told us that we still ate the food! Extremely rude lady who has no concept of customer service. I honestly cannot believe this restaurant is run this way. The other staff was as miserable as you can be. 3 other tables left mid meal due to the bad service so we know it wasn't just down to us. We even came at 5pm when it is quiet to make it easier but still had this terrible experience. Angie seemed to be focused more on takeout orders and making money than keeping her customers happy. This place was the go to for Thai in this area but I certainly won't be back. The other negative reviews back this up. My advice is save your money and dignity and take your business elsewhere. You have been warned!

Seriously the best meal in years ! I’ve just got back from London as well (The Ivy) and the food there was nothing compared to this. The quality of the food and the service was impeccable. Simply fantastic!

We had a Family lunch and had a selection of starters and mains. Every course was first rate. The tempura was exceptionally good. Superb Thai food. The lunch manager is extremely helpful and clearly trying hard to improve his English. Clean and friendly.

3 went in for lunch , waiter not polite or friendly or helpful. Food not as good as has been and smaller portions . Skirting boards dirty , floors not clean up to edges or under tables . Gone right down hill . Waiter ignored us didn’t ask how meal was half way or at end so didn’t get a tip ( only tip should be learn some customer service skills ) and when left didn’t even say thankyou or goodbye . Don’t deserve customers and we will never be back and will let plenty of people know as well .

I love the Phanthong but I will not be purchasing again from their takeaway menu. Their portion sizers are so small they would not feed one person. I rarely if every order take out but the Covid regulation has forced my hand. Even so I would not order again as way over priced for the quantity.

Unacceptable. Ordered for New Years Eve. Food arrived 1 hour and 20 minutes late despite ordering at lunchtime. When it finally arrived, it was cold, greasy and tasteless. Never again.

Ordered a takeaway at 17:30. Delivery was estimated to be around 19:30. Tried calling multiple times and no answer. Food turned up after 10pm. No apology. Dont take orders if you can't commit to them.

Nice food but massively over charged by staff who charged the menu price instead of the early bird menu despite the order being from the early bird menu. Staff unhelpful and unwilling to rectify their error. At best, they failed to clarify if we were asking to pay double for food which was on the early bird menu. At worse they intentionally ripped us off.

Went there for my daughter's birthday. Nice Christmas decorations, the restaurant is attached to a good looking pub and has covered outside seating with heaters. Service was very polite and cheerful. Food was beautiful from the Satay chicken to the garlic chilli King prawn starters. Duck in sweet Tamarind sauce was a surprise winner. Portions did not look huge, but we needed a doggy bag.Really good evening, will be back for New Year.

We have been having take aways from here over the last few months but decided to eat in this time . Lovely welcoming efficient staff. Temperature taken at the door and all staff wearing face shields . Order your food at the table via a QR code . Food piping hot and delicious . We had crispy chicken spring rolls followed by a duck dish in a tamarind sauce and a chicken and rice dish . All tasted lovely , also got a discount on the meal which was even better . Looking forward to our next visit .

We went on a Sunday and had the buffet where we tried everything on the menu. Every meal served was very high quality and delicious, this was definitely the best Thai restaurant we've ever been to. It was also great value with it costing only £15 per person.Also there were good Covid measures in place with all staff wearing PPE, good spacing between tables and your temperature is measured before coming in.

Our second visit to Phanthong Thai last night and it was equally as good as the first time we visited earlier this year! Excellent menu, delicious Thai food, great service and a really pleasant atmosphere. All COViD precautions in place! Highly Recommend

As expected a delicious, tasty meal. Menus are online now which was unusual but a great idea, temp taken on entering, tables removed. Very little interaction with the staff, which is a shame as they are so friendly and helpful but I suppose a wise precaution for them. Food is always delicious here and very well priced.

Best Thai that I’ve had for years. The tamarind duck is to die for. Service was brilliant too. We’re spoilt for choice of Thai restaurants in the area but this is so good we’re going back next week!

We are regular diners at Phantong in Wilmslow - we especially like the Sunday Service, but we had never had a takeaway until tonight. We ordered our usual favourites from the menu and can honestly tell you this is the best takeaway I have eaten for years.The quality of the food and flavour was absolutely incredible - with lots of our favourite sauces thrown in. We love the spicy chicken larb and beef salad. The pad Thai had plenty of prawns and green curry packed with chicken. Well done to a great independent with an eye for quality.Amazing

Take away option obviously during these mad times. However, quality should not suffer, especially with the prices being charged.I have never eaten at this establishment so i cannot comment on their in house quality but the take away appeared rushed, even though it was hour and half for delivery. Please before jumping down my throat, i did not mind the wait and totally understand the duration but why not deliver good food. Specific examples - Spring rolls, small and full of noodles. Hardly any veg - £5.45!Ginger beef, the beef was hardly cooked and looked very pale. Not much taste at all. £10.45!Feel terrible leaving poor reviews during this lockdown period but for the money charged you need to improve before I will use you again.

Got takeaway last night not up to their usual standard rice was totally overcooked and the soup we ordered not the right one and tasteless I have tasted better at other places

Superb Thai food. The Sunday buffet was exceptional value and really lovely food. The Thai green curry, chicken satay skewers and veg spring rolls were beautiful. We had an eight year old so they kindly went off menu and made her an extra day dish of non spicy noodles just for her and no extra charge. The staff were wonderful and attentive, the lovely ladies even offered to carry my five month old baby around the restaurant to give me chance to eat. We will definitely be back

First time I have visited this Thai restaurant. I didn’t even know it was there as I’m not in the immediate location. I went many years ago anencephaly it was run by the previous owners who moved. It was a delight. Very friendly people, a nice clean restaurant and excellent service. The food was delicious, the crispy sea bass with chilli and lime leaves, king prawn pad karpow (stir fry with chilli and basil and som tam (papaya spicy salad). Everything was hot (ron) and spicy (ped). Thai food is my forte and the Phanthong Thai is up there with the best I have eaten outside Thailand. It’s a must for me and I will be back! Kap khun maak kap.

Typically nice Thai food although the ribs hardly had any meat on them. Very pleasant and welcoming staff but here was no atmosphere. We called in for lunch and the staff outnumbered the diners. Can't understand why the restaurant was so empty. Prices very fair.

Have had some lovely food from here. I like the green and red Thai curry’s. A good menu choice. Will have a sit down meal soon there.

Booked a last minute meal the night before taking a flight from manchester. Booking over the phone, very polite and helpful. On arrival the restaurant is situated within a local public house. Very tidy and welcoming.

Wife and I ate here whilst staying overnight in a nearby hotel.# The food was excellent and the service just as good. The next time we fly from Manchester and stay overnight we will definitely be coming back

We have eaten in restaurant which was very nice but we prefer as a takeaway (our go to)! Food is always good!

Have been here a few times and it has always been excellent. The mushroom skewers are my favourite. Service is always very friendly and efficient but not obtrusive. Nice to get a drink in the Kings Arms before going in (or whilst waiting for a take away). Can usually park ok.

We always enjoy really nice and tasty cuisine at Phantong Wilmslow. The staff are always super friendly and attentive. We chose a selection of starters to share between our party of 6. The scallops were cooked just perfect,, although for me the accompanying source, although really tasty, was a bit too much for the delicate scallops. That's only my feeling on this dish and no criticism of the cooking. The mains were all nicely presented - but for me (opposite to the scallop dish) the sea bass in soya sauce lacked a bit of flavour. Like the scallops, the fish too was cooked well, but just needed a bit more taste.

Fantastic meal and service. Brilliant from start to finish and the food was yummy. We ordered a starter and mains and wasn’t disappointed.

We took a 6:30pm booking at the restaurant and were seated in a large booth towards the front of the restaurant. From start to finish the service was excellent, the food was top-notch. I have eaten here before, but not been in the last two years. The restaurant has had a facelift & new decor and I have to say without doubt the food is to a much higher standard than I have experienced in the past. I had fishcakes to start and King prawn in garlic and black pepper as a main course. It was exceptional, absolutely delicious. Coupled with the fantastic food, the waiting staff and management were superb. They could not do enough for us and nothing was too much. I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I will look forward to visiting Panthong again.

This restaurant is adjacent to a pub so you can have a beer or two before heading to the restaurant. I think they are two separate businesses so you have to pay the drinks first before heading to the restaurant. The quality of the Thai food is great! And the service as well. My duck dish was very tasty and I would order it again next time I visit Wilmslow.

Decided we would treat ourselves and order a takeaway tonight, we ordered steamed sea bass, chicken Pad Thai, spare ribs and spring rolls. This came to a total of £44.00 so we were expecting a reasonable portion of food! When it arrived in a small and very light bag we were slightly concerned, the spare ribs were ok but not any better than our local Chinese and the spring rolls were the size you would expect from a supermarket canapé! The sea bass tasted fine but had quite a lot of bones but most disappointing was the so called chicken Pad Thai which was basically a small tray of fried chicken pieces and mushrooms, not a noodle in sight, not like any Pad Thai I’ve ever had before, they should rename the place Phanwrong! Feel thoroughly ripped off!

Very good meal, nice place, good price, a restaurant to return again some day. I recommend it for those who like tasty food.

We went to this restaurant because Thai food is one of my favourites. But unfortunately we were both disappointed with the food. The service was very good though and the staff were very polite. We are looking at moving to this area, and I just hope that there will be better Thai restaurants elsewhere in the area!

Having visited Phanthong 3 times and giving benefit of doubt I find I need to review

We have regular takeouts from Phanthong Thai and the food and service is normally excellent, however earlier on this evening I have to say that the service was terrible on this occasion. I was told the waiting time for a takeaway was 30 minutes, which I was happy to wait for. After 50 minutes of waiting and seeing customers enter the restaurant, place orders for takeaway, and get theres within 20 minutes, I enquired as to where mine was. The older lady at the till told me it was now being packed and would be out soon. 15 minutes later, and still no food, I asked the same lady once more and got the same response once again. The food then arrived a couple of minutes later with a simple “sorry for the delay”. It was quite obvious that my order had been forgotten about, so to lie to a customer is pretty poor to say the least. I’ve never known food to take 15 minutes to be packed or to take over an hour to cook when other people are getting there’s. Despite the food being very good, we won’t be returning.

Everything about Phanthong is just beautiful- the food, the staff, presentation, attentiveness. The menu has lots of choice. The food is well presented and flavoursome with great choice for vegetarians. Definitely the best Thai food in Wilmslow.

We had to wait a bit for us to be attended to before we could get a table but apart from the initial wait time, the food was amazing and there was nothing to fault. Enjoyed every bit of it. Would also have wanted to see.some desserts maybe??

We love Thai food and have a favourite where we live, but this one is so much better! As others have said, the massaman is exellent, while my daughter loved her pad thai. If you can fit more in after that then the banana sweets are high quality and the special tea is real fun - try one and you'll find out. Overall an exceptional meal with nothing to detract from it.

We have dined at this restaurant many times and regularly have takeaways. The quality of the food is always good and we like the use of fresh chilli’s as opposed to powder used in some Thai restaurants. The lunch menu is extremely reasonable with a good choice of dishes.

Went on a recommendation and once you get past the strange exterior and it’s adjacency to the pub - it’s a hidden gem in the area.

Dropped in for Sunday afternoon lunch and had a really good meal. They have a set menu for £14.95 with starters and mains cooked to order and as much as you can eat. Tom Yum soup was fabulous as was the Spicy Beef salad. Had the green chicken curry and Phad Thai for mains and again fabulous flavours. Service was really friendly and fast. Overall an excellent meal.

Phone them in advance, buffet r set to order of choices of dishes you can repeat the same item and eat as much as you can lol great idea on buffet whereby the restaurant keen on wastage's

Amazing food, amazing service, thank you for making my son's 16th birthday so special. Had been myself during lunchtimes but was the boys first experience of Thai food and such a perfect place for them to try and they absolutely loved it.

Felt like some nice quality Thai food first visit here and great to see the served pork as this is always a traditional dish to me. The pork chilli basil excellent, sticky rice a little more stodgy than usual but tasty. Corn cakes and satay very good. Wine list appropriate pride choices and range. Would absolutely return. Tempura veg generally crispy and tasty.

We had been in here before for the Sunday buffet before but not for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was very good.

Was recommended to eat here over Chili Banana, which is a favourite of mine, so expectations were high. Whilst it didn't hit all the marks to be a new fave, it didn't disappoint either.

After reading reviews we were disappointed! Sunday buffet was very tasty and plenty of food but service was “curt” and offhand! When they tried to charge us for a £40 bottle of wine we hadn’t had but insisted we had (!) I’m afraid that spoiled the day and we’re unlikely to be back

A pleasant surprise of Thai delights from a food perspective! My wife and I ate here one evening, the restaurant adjoins a pub, and we were able to enjoy a pleasant evening of local beers and well prepared Thai food. The meals are quite well proportioned, and flavoursome making for a very pleasant change from the typical English pub meals we had eaten in the preceding week elsewhere on our travels.

Im so glad we decided to go here on 21st november to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. The whole evening was greaat from start to finish. The staff are so lovrly and welcoming and the food was out of this world. They had an offer on that evening (tues-thurs 2 course £16.95). I cant wait to go back and try their sunday buffet (£14.95). This was our first visit and certainly will not be the last. See pics attached.

As usual we always have superb Thai Food here and would go nowhere else.The staff are just so so helpful always a big smile when you enter and every time they attend your table.Tonight Thursdays they have a special deal on £16.95 Starter and main with rice and it was excellent so get down and try the Phatong Thai you WON'T be dissapointed

Wanted a late lunch having checked out of hotel in area and found this online. The lunch/bar menu (as attached to neighbouring pub) was excellent value and totally delicious. Very pleasant setting and attentive and friendly staff. Couldn’t fault food and would definitely go again.

This restaurant has good reviews for a reason - really enjoyed the food and experience here on a week night. The curries are very tasty and the service was very good, albeit when the restaurant was quiet. Highly recommend and I would return here.

We went to Phanthong to celebrate a birthday and exam results. We haven’t been in a while and were extremely disappointed. The restaurant is a getting a little scruffy and the service was slow although the staff were friendly.

Hadn’t been to this restaurant since it changed from the Chilli Banana. We had however heard increasingly good things about it and gave it a try. Really glad we did. Tom Yum soup as good as you’ll ever get and there wasn’t a single dish that everyone on our table didn’t absolutely love. Well done. We will certainly be back and very soon!

Altrincham is one of my favourite places in Greater Manchester but it's gone up another notch thanks to this lovely restaurant. Booked in a week in advance for my Grandpa's 93rd birthday, picked a great time when the restaurant wasn't too busy on a Saturday evening. 6 of us ordered most of the same starters, everyone pleased, but the main was exquisite. All of us ordered something different, which was a great choice as each dish was excellent- lots of sharing going on. I really enjoyed the creamy coconut curry. All extremely satisfied with the location and how warm the staff were. Only fault- clocked the guy taking the birthday cake into the back for the surprise!! Worked out around £25 pp. You could pay double for worse. Would highly recommend, will definitely come back. Thank you.

We decided to try the Sunday buffet. Not expecting to be fabulous. But to our surprise the food was very fresh and absolutely fabulous. And very reasonable price .and the staff were very accommodating.

Went with my wife for lunch. Excellent fresh cooked food presented with typical Thai flair. Great range of drinks and exciting tea's. Particularly enjoyed Beef Masaman curry and Tom Kagai. Very friendly and attentive staff - especially Angie.

Went as one of eight in a family group.The decor is very nice and the service was excellent.But I have never had such bland food...it's worse than Chilli Banana and that's saying something. It looks like a large menu but actually it isn't because everything is more or less the same. I think it is really expensive too My main course was £10.95 for about 3 Oz of beef.Will definitely not return.

I am speaking as a vegetarian and i have no idea what the meat dishes were like. This place was fantastic, plenty of veggie options and the food tasted great. Add this to the great service and you have a wonderful night out. Will definitely be eating here again.

We had the Sunday lunch buffet with a wide range of brilliant dishes. We were able to try lots of different dishes. Service was impeccable and all watched over by a very attentive Maitresse d' Hotel. Strongly recommended and will definitely go again. Loved the buffet style of eating.

Food was beautifully presented and cooked. Will definitely visit again when next in the area. Menu is vast I had to ask for the set menu as it wasn’t offered when we went in, but I knew there was one. Not knowing what we fancied the set menu was the best and most economical way of ordering for us.

We caught up with family members over Sunday lunch at this restaurant. Two of our party were vegetarian and there was plenty of choice. Nobody had anything negative to say. The food was delicious and hot with a range of starters, main meals and fresh fruit or ice cream for dessert. The atmosphere is relaxing with a friendly service and the location of the pub next door means you can have an aperitive or after dinner drinks.

A really relaxed evening. The staff are charming and friendly. Décor is plain but pleasant enough and the meal was very good value. The food was great quality and well flavoured with herbs rather than spicy. Particularly enjoyed the massaman beef curry and vegetarian pad thai. Doubt you could go wrong with anything on the menu.

Eaten here many times - never disappointed. The food is always freshly made, very tasty and plentiful. The staff are polite and very helpful but never hover over you. The menu isn't extensive but does have plenty of choice and covers the standard Thai curries with the more recognisable sweet and sour option.

What to do when you arrive in Wilmslow on a Friday evening and you're hungry? After a long and shattering drive I didn't feel up to dining out so ordered a take-away. The restaurant was busy and I arrived to find an error in my order; it was Friday night, these things happen. I'm glad I had to wait an extra 10 minutes as it gave me the chance to watch an obviously popular restaurant humming at peak time. This place is well loved with a number of regulars on easy terms with an extremely friendly staff. Always a good sign.
