The Haddock and Chips which I ordered was the best piece of fish I have had for a long time. The chips were great too although you have to ask them to stop loading too many😂. Highly recommend. Steve Pallett

Would not order from here again. The chips even looked as though they had re heated over and over again. Completely unappetising.

My teenage daughter went with a friend and bought 2 x saveloy and chips she was asked if she wanted salt and vinegar and she said yes and went to hand over £10.00 to which the person said that she couldn’t have salt and vinegar because she didn’t have enough money. She was soo embarrassed. I have bought fish and chips from here lots of times before and never been charged for salt and vinegar - were they trying it on because she was only 12. I will never go here again.

Just paid over £30 for the worst cod and chips I’ve ever bought. Covered in over cooked batter the cod was thin, over cooked and dried out, leaving hardly any fish as edible. All three portions were exactly the same, rang and told them, just to be informed all fish is freshly cooked, what they really mean is obliterated! Won’t be returning any time soon.

The chips were average but not as good as previously. Also the service was more friendly before. I didn’t enjoy my last visit there.

This is in relation to a takeaway delivery. I have ordered from Tom Bells many times and have been really impressed with the quality and taste. However, our most recent order was extremely disappointing. The haddock stunk of ammonia, even the cat turned away from it. It was inedible and went straight in the bin. Very concerning that this quality of food is being sold. Will never order from here again

Yo era un cliente habitual de esta tienda de pescado y patatas fritas. Unal y su hermano brindaron un servicio excepcional. De repente, todo el personal se ha ido / se ha ido, hay nuevo personal y la comida ya no está a la altura. Los nuggets de pollo antes eran como trozos reales de pechugas de pollo, ahora son como nuggets de Islandia. Incluso los de McDonald's saben mejor. En general, muy decepcionado y, debido a todos los cambios, mi familia y yo no volveremos.

He estado yendo a Tom Bells durante años, ¡pero nunca llegué a escribir una reseña!Es mi chippy favorito. Las patatas fritas son TAN buenas que empiezo a comerlas en cuanto salgo de casa. Toda la comida fresca y limpia. El jefe es un hombre encantador.

Customer service was very poor! Chap serving was abrupt and seemed like he was doing us a favour by serving us ! Shame as food very nice !

Have had fish and chips a few times from here, the staff are always friendly and the food consistently great, served freshly cooked and hot. Phone ahead to avoid the queue at busy times! Highly recommended.

The staff are always ready with a smile and a freindly welcome, food cooked to a "T", not over priced either, if you don't want to wait for freshly cooked, you can phone ahead to have it ready, lovely shop.

The food was okay, nothing special, but the delivery was late by over an hour and I was given no compensation.

Always freshly cooked, highly recommend. We haven’t tried the delivery service yet, but takeaway is fantastic.

Hi had a great fish and chips and we got chicken and chips all great . Good price and easy to park in front of shop.

Had a takeaway from here and it was ok but I have had better really from others nearby. Batter not as fresh and crispy as we would have liked. Chips ok.

Dropped in for a takeaway lunch and had a savaloy, chips, curry sauce, gherkin and a drink. Everything was tasty and chips freshly cooked and tasty - nothing worse when chips have been re-fried umpteen times in 1 month old oil - not here. Very satisfying lunch and very fast service, luckily I was only one in shop too at the time, so got lucky maybe before the rush. I would recommend this place as a nice reliable chippy, and chose it over KFC as I did not want to risk stogy and rubbery chips from them, which is always a risk. Will return for sure when in area next.

Fish & chips like the old days . The quality is excellent and portion sizes equally so . Never had a bad meal from here . The value for money is excellent as takeaways these days are becoming very expensive for a family to enjoy . Highly recommended

Had cod and chips a few weeks ago fro Locksbottom branch. Within 90 minutes was violently sick and bedridden for a couple of days afterwards. No other food in the picture to blame. Contacted the official site to report and ask for comment but received no response. Clearly don’t mind if their food makes customers ill, so unlikely to review their food hygiene practices. Avoid this place. Would have rated no stars if site allowed.

We ordered on line for a collection for nine people. The order was not ready on time which I thought was par for the course. However, the food is excellent, very well wrapped and still very hot. Good old fashioned fish and chips with huge portions - especially the chips. I would definitely go back there again.

This chippie advertises order on line for delivery. I pre ordered before they opened at 12.00hr on a Sunday. Three 'phone calls and they eventually delivered at 13.45hr. Even then missed part of the order, a piece of fish at over £5 but would not give a refund.

Ate in had cod chips and bread and butter.was delicious. Very polite nice staff. Nicely priced .will be coming back again

I went to this chippie as my son was hungry. I purchased a meal deal -sausage chips and a can. As we drove off I heard an almighty crack noise come from my sons mouth (in which he started crying) he spat out the food in which I saw a grey stone embedded in the potato. I drove back and wrapped the stone/chip in some tissue. I took the meal bag and tissue back into the shop. Once I had explained what had happened and showed the owner the evidence. He grabbed the tissue out of my hand and asked if I would like another meal. I said no thanks and could I have the tissue/stone and chip back as I have to now take my son to the dentist. The owner turned his back on me and emptied the evidence into the bin and replied "it's gone, too late and that he couldn't find it". He then made a big deal about the canned drink as I had not brought that back into the shop!!!! Now considering his food had cracked my sons tooth, I felt a can was the least of the problem!!!!! I went and got his can in which he gave me a refund. Never again will I go to this place his mannerism is disgusting and not once did he refer to my son who could've also swallowed this stone

As a man very attuned to local London cuisine. I can honestly say this is the best Chip shop South of the river I have ever eaten in.

Hay algunos muy buenos, pero Tom Bell chippies alrededor es bastante razonable. Las patatas fritas pueden a veces olor a "cualquier veces utilizados aceite pero el pescado es normalmente bastante agradable.

I went to Tom Bell's for a quick lunch with a friend, we shared our food. The fish cake was not freshly made, but the worst part was the haddock, which had gone bad.I left it all in my plate, waitress never checked on us to see if everything was ok. I asked to have it taken off the bill, they refused!! Place is smelly and very dirty, chairs have not been cleaned for a long time, dirt is piling up everywhere. Never again will I go eat there !!!

We always buy our fish n chips here. The place is clean and tidy and delivers a good fish supper just when you need it.

Went in to give tom bells a try as i have heard good things.well what i got was the most miserable man i have ever met no good morning hello or any thing just want you want to which i told him he just stuck his hand out and demanded £3.50 and then threw my change on the counter.didnt even ask if i wanted salt and vinagar.well tom bell you seen the last of my money and the food was very average.theres a lot better fish and chip shops about

Went into the restaurant for a quick meal before a long drive home. Had large cod and chips to eat in. The fish was really fresh, batter crispy, chips crisp and the portions huge. It was not cheap (£22 for two of us with soft drinks) but for a served meal not bad. Visited the loo which was spotless. The whole place is freshly decorated and clean.My only moans are, as per many chippies, they do not use proper vinegar, and they charge for table sauces.But we will probably visit again if we are hospital visiting in Orpington.

We always order from here now as the quality of there fish is personally top class they are more than a fish n chip shop they know how to fry fish n chips to perfection if you ain't tried it i recommend that you do.

Tom bell need to look into this place, the manager states he sells fresh food, not the case he is so rude and they had rat droppings in the restaurant area! Big health and safety issue here which needs to be address. DO NOT EAT HERE

I work at the local hospital and have heard people talk very positively about Tom Bell fish and chips. Myself and a colleague decided to go after a shift and get some, a basic fish and chips was just under a tenner and a drink was nearly 2 quid, it was a massive portion, not greasy, but it was meh okay. I wouldnt go again, there are superior fish and chips ( I dont even really like fish and chips as a choice of takeaway) in forestdale and down in Hayes, which is opposite the sainsburies on Hayes station approach!

I have to say, I was very disappointed with the Cod and chips that we recently purchased at Tom Bells. We have used them previously and were very pleased, but I think they may have changed their cooking oil as the fish and chips tasted more like a chinese takeaway and the batter on the fish was more like a pork ball. Also, the chips were very under cooked and hard and at nearly £20 for two people, it's not cheap. I should have got back in the car and taken the food back, but we binned the food and had cheese on toast instead..

Well cooked fish and chips, good sized portions (especially the large Cod ), great value for money and all freshly cooked.

Tom Bell are normally excellent fish and chip restaurants. However that said they have some lacklustre franchises, this one is typical.Not the best fish and chips every but City prices. 3/10. This is my opinion of the one in Court Road, not the one in Locks bottom - there seem to be some cross posting of reviews here.If you want mushy chips and hard peas, with cold fish, come here, you wont be disappointed.

Being in the Farnborough area, we visited the Tom Bell having heard that this shop is better than others. Our local one in Beckenham is quite dire in the lack of quality of fish served.We intended to get chips as takeaway to eat at home but had a change of mind in thinking they would get cold before we could get back home and so decided to eat in.The shop is new and the table seating and shop counter were all as new. With a dual aspect outlook and entrances front and rear we found it a little drafty and cold on a February evening.My cod and chips was tasty but the portion size was not in-line with my expectations set by the cost on the menu. My wife's fish cake was determined home made and tasty. Our kids settled for chip butties. The chips were ok but somehow didn't seem like "proper" chip shop chips.Service was friendly but sporadic, and we had to remind them of our drinks and bread and butter which came towards the end of our meal undermining our intent to make hot chip butties. Cod and chips, fish cake and chips, two small portions of chips, four rounds of bread and butter and two soft drinks for £30 and portion sizes erring on less than generous. I think that's a bit expensive.

Omg just had a shock of my life , ordered fish n chips and the man made me feel sick , I nearly walked out !! Ordered fish and he went to the freezer and got the fish , he then ran it under hot tap then cooked it , it was like a programme I've seen on tv !! So once cooked ect brought it home and yes was totally tasteless and ended up in the bin , never ever again will I buy food from this shop !!!

Went to Locksbottom Tom Bell last night on the recommendation of a friend and after checking online couldn't understand the fuss, looked like a conventional chippy menu. Couldn't be more wrong. If you eat in, I had really good size oysters to start and a huge Dover Sole as main. Can't review the puds as was too full. Considering the fact that both were listed as MP on the menu, I thought it was very reasonably priced. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Definitely recommend it.

All the usual with quite a nice restaurant tagged on the side for good measure. Menu in the restaurant is quite varied on top of the usual chippy offerings. Well worth a try.

I have enjoyed Fish and Chips for numerous years but usually as a takeaway. At last someone has taken an old style concept, modernised and upgraded it whilst retaining the core strength of good simple food. Yes you can order starters such as fried whitebait and Octopus (both were lovely by the way) but you can then have freshly cooked Haddock and superb chips whilst sipping a nice Sauvignon Blanc, all served by friendly efficient staff at reasonable prices. I warn you portions are very generous so unless you are extremely famished stick with normal size.You can order steak, burger etc. but I recommend the fish.The dining area is set out as a good modern restaurant, the only difference is the very shiny counter as you walk in on the left side, once past that you forget it.

We went for the first time to this new restaurant in Locksbottom. It's a take away but with a full blown restaurant that offers not just fish fishes but steaks and other meals. We went on a busy Friday evening and were disappointed to be put on a table just a couple of feet from diners either side of us. I know they want to maximise covers but we won't be going back as it is very inhibiting to know people either side can hear every word, despite the background music and noisy ambience.Our waiter also appeared to be inexperienced with ours arriving with two plates of food stating 'Which is which?'!All of this could be forgiven if it gave good value for money, but the prices are expensive - a crab and prawn cocktail starter at £7.95, and a main course of sea bass was £19.50. These are top end and on a par with Chapter One which offers a much more refined experience, although I accept some may like the more relaxed atmosphere.For dessert we asked what the 'Dessert of the day' was on the menu. The waiter said he didn't know and came back to announce that there wasn't one!There are several restaurants in Locksbottom that offer a better experience and better value, in my opinion.

If cooked freshly, the chips and fish are excellent. Much better than other local chippies. The chicken fillet burger is first class as well. The only issue I have is that sometimes they don't seem to take your order in the order you walk through the door.

Tom Bell at Orpington is my local fish and chip takeaway. Over the years I've favoured others locally and thought them all good, until I discovered Tom Bell which I consider exceptional.It's a takeaway with no facility to sit and eat in. It is situated in the middle of a small shopping parade, with an off licence next door, and a garage type Marks and Spencer about 100m away. Parking is usually easy, in marked bays, immediately outside the restaurant.I've always ordered on my arrival and my food has been cooked fresh just for me. The chips are usually crispy on the outside and soft inside. The fish is always so fresh, it's remarkable. They always have the most popular fish available but not always the more expensive such as Skate. They will sell a selection of other foods (pies, sausages and saveloys and many others too) to take away, but I've not tried those so cannot comment.There are pickled gherkins and pickled eggs. You can also buy condiments too, but they will salt and vinegar your fish and chips if you dont want to do this yourself.Hygiene appears to be exceptional. Although there must be one, I have not noticed a local council hygiene rating certificate but I have seen the staff cleaning the cooking equipment, surfaces and also the customer area and they do it well, keeping everything clear, clean and shiny!The takeaway package is well wrapped and bagged, using paper and not plastic - a very good point in this age of recycling. And it means you'll arrive home with hot food that has not gone soggy through travelling in plastic.The staff are always friendly - and chatty if business allows. I believe they'll accept telephone and party orders, but I've not tried those facilities.All in all an excellent and very tasty fish and chips takeaway experience which I urge you to try - and to report on to Trip Advisor!
